Lovin' it

I loved this movie for everything it was and everything itwasn't. Julie Brown is hilarious, Michael McKean is phenomenal,as always, and I like the plot. The musical twist on it makesit perfect. Geena Davis plays the perfect airhead, and shemakes a great blond. The overall mess of confusion of thismovie is what makes it interesting- it's a big jumble ofglitter, fur, and music. It's thrown at you all at once, andyou can't help but enjoy.

well worth the money

I own bought this movie when it first came out on DVD and paid a lot more for it. It was worth every penny. This is a beautiful transfer to DVD, very crisp and clear!Oh yeah, it's a funny movie.

Wasted talent

I fell asleep trying to watch this movie. What I saw of it was pretty boring and a waste of Geena Davis' talent. Wish I could say more, it just didn't appeal to me despite her lovely smile.

Classic Werid Funny

I can't count the number of times I laughed at this over-the-top movie.Yes, it's silly. If you're not in the mood for silly, then watchsomething serious. Three great actors: Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, JimCarey. I voted just because I think 4.9 is too low, and wanted to bringup the average. I don't own a lot of DVDs, but this one is on my shelf.Bears re-watching.There are many funny, filled-out characters: the pool guy, the fiancéedoctor and both great. The girl friend hairdresser is okay. The discoscenes are a little lame, but I never liked discos.The ending is perfect, too. Just when you think she's going to schmuckout, she saves the day my making the right choice.

Typical Breed of '80s Movies

Sure, this film doesn't really require much thought to watch it, butthat'sthe reason I love it. I saw this movie when I was younger and that it wasawesome and then I watched again a few days ago and fell right back inlovewith it. Sure, it's about 3 aliens that are covered in fur and land inGenaDavis' pool, but the storyline is so corny it's funny.It's a typical '80s movie and Earth Girls Are Easy has the who shebang:typical clothing, music, and hot guys. What more could youwant?

A joyous romp - fluff, but Really Good Fluff!

Sadly a few jaded commentators (including the late redoubtableHalliwell) seen to have taken this movie far too seriously...pay noattention! This movie mas made as a zany fluffy comedy, and it succeedsadmirably at it. With talents like Gina Davis, Geoff Goldblum, theyoung Jim Carrey and the multi-talented Julie Brown amongst others howcould it fail? Memorable moments include the aliens' learning isolatedEnglish phrases from commercials and old movies - "limp and hard tomanage" has become a family in-joke; thelike,-totally-cool-to-whatever-outrageous-happens surfer Woody (MichaelMcKean); the makeover; and Julie Brown's song, now a classic on DrDemento, "Because I'm Blonde".For anyone who complains the special effects are cheesy - they're_meant_ to be! This is in part a spoof of the 1950'saliens-come-to-earth B movies, so watch closely when the space shiparrives, hovers over the trees, and does its forced landing in Davis'pool: it is a triumph of reproducing the authentic 1950's effect, not apoor attempt at 80's FX tech! All in all the production values,cinematography and direction are excellent throughout and support thefine cast and writers to produce one of the most delightful lightcomedies of the 80's.Don't miss this charmer. See it when it comes around on TV. Rent it, orbuy it and show all your friends. Just be sure you're in the mood forcomic nonsense, not Dostoyevsky!

This film perhaps had a more significant role than generally appreciated

The 1980's were the decade when many film studios decided to use theirnew freedom from petty censorship to convince everyone that eye candyin the form of a little nudity was an essential pre-requisite for anymodern romantic comedy. Although I have a great respect for eye candywhere it is used effectively, many of us need only think back to theunending sequence of films from the Confessions, Porky's, Spring Breakand similar stables to be thankful that this phase was not prolongedinto the nineties. EGAE probably deserves respect as one of the filmswhich, I assume deliberately, helped the industry to turn their eyes toother things than just candy. Other than this it would be hard torespect it for very much today, but it is still easy to enjoy it on itsown terms as a totally zany romantic comedy with a story in whichanything goes. It also claims credit as a work of sci-fi and as amusical - both of these claims are pure baloney. Today it is hard tofind many moviegoers who regards it as more than a historicalanachronism, and a plain bad film. But a significant proportion ofthese same moviegoers would rate it as an enjoyable film that theywould be prepared to watch again. Its creators would probably be veryhappy with this consensus, they were not attempting to create a futureclassic - only to create a comedy which would succeed when it wasreleased and would give them a great deal of fun whilst making it. Wecan still share much of this fun today! My rating is 4 stars

Silly but sparkeling movie

Literally colorful movie about funky aliens landing in an LA swimmingpool,Geena Davis fans should take notice, she is running around in a veryskimpy2 piece bading suit, this is bubbly party movie to watch Friday night withafew friends and a lot of drinks with umbrellas. If you didn't like it, youwere probably a few drinks short of decent party spirit!6/10

"I like 'em big...and stupid!"

If you like 'em that way too, then this is the movie for you!Four very strong leads - Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum and then unknown Jim Carrey and Damon Williams - backed up by Julie Brown deliver a paper-thin story with humor, bright colors and an ineffable sexiness. I think this was an attempt to revive musical-comedy cinema in the late '80s; the previous shining example being "Xanadu". The songs are original, funny and have enjoyed cult status ever since.This is one of the first movies to show that inter-planetary romances don't have to end with an ova-depositor rammed down your throat.I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys turing their minds off for an hour and a half of fun.

I loved this film since my first view of Geena Davis in it!

I still remember the first time I saw this movie and it was the first timeIever saw Geena Davis. This is a fun and kooky movie with a glimpse intotheearly days of some big names such as Jim Carey and Jeff Goldblum and tolesser extent Damon Waynes. The effects are, well, perfectly suited forsuch a light movie. Geena is fresh and very likeable in the roll ofValerie,the earth girl that falls for the sometimes hairy alien Mac (Jeff) who hascrash landed his ship into Valerie's swimming pool with his two alien crew(Carey and Waynes). Well worth the small rental fee. A good time had byall.

Funny laughs are in store

Jeff golblum. Genna davis, Jim carrey. and Damon wayans: four great actors packed into a comedy movie. This movie has some cheesy points but has lots of jokes and funny moments. this movie just show's a bit of their acting ability and gives them a lead way into the acting business. But how else do you make it unless you have some non- major movie experience first? If you want laughs, check out this movie.

The misadventures of 3 aliens that crash land in an "airhead's" pool.

As was noted in another comment, this is one of those movies where youjust sit back for a somewhat enjoyable ride. Davis, as usual, looksspectacular (still does) and plays the part perfectly: Kind of dumb butnot as dumb as one would expect (by the way, what do all those dumbpeople do when they get older and cannot rely on their looks anymore?).This is your typical Valley Girl movie with all the usual charactersand bells and whistles one would expect from nothing but fluff. Butsometimes we need just plain fluff. Something that does not require toomany brain cells to watch. And this movie fits the bill. Brown'smusical numbers fit in well and flush out the movie, and as usual she'sgood at what she does. And though every character is over the top, itworks.

Easy to watch

Kept afloat by a lighthearted pace and a surprisingly well-known cast,"Earth Girls Are Easy" proves to be a cute, albeit unmemorable comedy.There's nothing particularly great here, but many scenes are fun, there aresome good musical numbers, and there are enough likable characters to makeyou still "care" when the predictable ending takes place. Give it a looknext time you're in the mood for some silly fluff that actuallyworks.

Very interesting, humorous and sexy comedic romp!

I have watched this movie repeatedly and all I can say is "Far outman!" While I have never been a fan of Wayan or Carey I am a big fan ofDavis, Brown, Goldblum and McKean. This comedy is not sophisticated byany means but the camera action, lighting and special effects makes itfun to watch. When "Mac" (Goldblum's character) puts his "love touch"on people or animals, well, watch out. I think the dance club scene isvery well choreographed. I really enjoyed the Homage to Jerry Lewis andJames Dean. Julie Brown and her ditzy "Valley girl" was a-okay andMcKean's character, Woody, was tubular dude! Finally just the chance tosee Geena in some of those very sexy outfits she wore is enough to makeme wish I was a space alien. She is super HOT!!! I am one of the manywho still can't find Larry Linville as "Dr. Bob" and that is quite theshame. He has never gotten the respect he deserved as an actor. Anyway"Earth Girls" was a fun and sexy romp into the California Valley (Whereanything goes) way of life.

Jeff Goldblum is Hot

especially coverd in blue fur. I borrowed this dvd from my brother. and have yet to give it back. Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans are cutties too! (Jim Carrey never fails to make me laugh.) Genea Davis rocks. and Julie Browns' singing.. love it. But most of all... my eyes are set to Jeff Goldblum... who I am used to seeing as the geeky, freaky, wierd guy. but hey... I have seen the light. Jeff Goldblume (aka Mac the blue one) is a god! hot, sexy, yet innocent and confused at the new world he and his 2 shipmates (?) have landed in.Earth Girls Are Easy.. is a funny, yet loveable, folly of the end of the 80's life. and the happy ending... (yes.. I admit I cried when "Valerie" and "Mac" flew off threw the big (donute hole?) of space! A+ all the way!

This is one of the fluff movies which one doesn't need to be ashamed ofadmitting to enjoyment in. No, there's nothing plausible about 90% of theplot, but nor is there any pretense of such, so it's not something worthangsting over. Three fuzzy, colorful aliens crash their little yellow shipinto the pool of a young, somewhat vapid Geena Davis, who has recentlydiscovered that her MD. fiance is cheating on her. A quick shave andstylingat her friend's beauty parlor transforms the three into less hirsuteversions of Goldblum, Carrey and Wayans. Having assimilated at least theappearance of human beings, the aliens enter the world of 80s California,and wackiness, along with the necessary romance, ensues.As 80s flicks go, this is better than, say, Weird Science or Back toSchool,though not up to par with things like Caddyshack or A Fish Called Wanda.Nothing essential to go out of your way to see, but certainly worthcatchingsometime
