director's cut explains much more

The non-director's cut left out many needed flashback sequences thathelpeddeveloped the character's more thoroughly. For instance, the electocuteswere orginally named pink bitches. Also, a very underrated sequence wasray's mockumentary that implied that high school students at basketballgames were no different than nazi germany. when the in-crowd makes fun ofhim nicole, points out "hey, he's going to win so many mtv video awardsandyou're going to do nothin" or something to that effect. The actualdirector's cut is a mere four hours and actual breaks the movie down intoathree part series not unlike godfather. The first follows the lives oftheir parents before the divorce and cancer in small industrial city. Thesecond is hambone and nicole's early years as up to their breakup inseventhgrade. The producers showed us the last but since prequels are so popularthese days hopefully the earlier drive me crazy's will come out in thenextfew years. look for mary kate olsen to play a young nicole, not ashley>

A sweet movie that leaves you feeling giddy.

I saw this movie and although the plot is unoriginal, "drive me crazy" wasso adorable and sweet. I found myself smiling during the whole movie andwhen I left I just felt happy. Yes, like others say, the plot is reallycliche, but I think this movie does the cutest version of it. I would seeit over and over again.

Lighthearted Fun

Cute new adaptation on an old romantic-comedy theme of two people who just"pretend" to like each other and couldn't be more surprised at theresults. This movie was a goodnatured and fun little love story. If you're lookingfor a lighthearted pick me-up on a sad day, this is it.

Nice movie qualifies as good entertainment & good food for thought

Nicole (Melissa Joan Hart) has her eye on a hunky basketball star. Shemakes the overtures but he casts his gaze on a cheerleader instead.Nicole has been the major planner for an upcoming community dance andnow her choice of dates is taken! Meanwhile, next door neighbor, Chase, has been dumped by his eccentric girlfriend. He's sad. Melissa cooks upa compromise. If Chase will pretend to be her guy to make thebasketball star jealous, she will do the same for him and his ex. But,first Melissa insists on giving Chase a makeover. Will their schemesresult in mutual benefits? And, what about Nicole's absentee father? Will he ever be interested in his daughter's happenings? This moviewould make a nice conversation starter for high school teens. Besidesits entertainment value, it has some good messages and quandaries aboutwhat it means to be in the "in crowd" and the "out crowd". The starsare quite good looking and have good acting abilities, especiallyAdrian Grenier. Typical but nice costumes and settings compliment thefilm, too. If you would like a movie to watch with your teenagedaughter or son about self worth and choices in life, this movie wouldbe beneficial. And, you both just might end up giggling and touched.

Did somebody write this?

This has to be one of the lamest movies and should be placed in the "Huh?"category of movies. The premise is simple, you want to be a couple with aguy who you don't even like just so people can say, "Oh, they're acouple."Melissa Joan Hart, who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag is a totalmoron in this movie. The co-star, who's name I can't remember thankfully,is an average guy that looks like a hippie from the 1960s. I haven't evenmentioned the worst part. This movie absolutely GOES NOWHERE. Yoursupposed to feel the spark between these two characters but instead it'sthesnores of the other members of the audience. No! That's not the worstpart. It's the last scene in the movie which I can't tell you withoutgiving it away! This literally made me sick and my friends walked outrightbefore the credits. Truly a horrible movie!! Avoid it at allcosts.

Drive me insane

This movie is painfully bad. The basic plot is the same as in any other ridiculous teen film. The popular girl needs to find a date to the big dance since the ultra cool basketball player dumps her. What is a girl to do? Of course! You could fix up the next door neighbor who realizes that the cool kids in school are only cool to themselves. She fixes up this normal person with a wardrobe straight from the GAP (pretty piss poor product placemtent there) and all of a sudden this "dork" turns into one of the in crowd, and he is happier. Happier? This is a kid that made a life out of hating the in crowds, then all of a sudden he is in, so he hates the losers. This film just does not make sense. The whole concept of dork to ultra cool has been done and done again, why beat it like a dead horse? Why doesn't Hollywood get in tune with reality and realize that some teenagers want to see things that actually deal with life as it is, not as American Eagle tells us how to live. The teenage movie going audience deserves more, and this film is just an insult to everyones intelligence.

Not Another Teen Movie --- or is it?

This movie is another teen movie. I love teen movies, but they all seem tobe the same. This is no exception. A lot of the storylines arepredictable, but just watching it unfold on screen makes up for this. Themain characters seem to be everyone's focus, but I think the supporting castwas very good as well. Ali Later, Susan May Pratt, and Mark Webber are allcast well for their roles. Adrien Grenier plays Chase Hammond. He's shownas the smart guy who is really a cutie even without the makeover. NicoleMaris, his next door neighbor and one of the most popular girls in school,is played by Melissa Joan Heart. I am not that big of a fan of Melissa, although I did like her early days on Clarissa Explains It All. In thismovie, Melissa's acting is just a good as it is on Sabrina The TeenageWitch, which isn't that great, but does get the job done and in a good way. All through the movie kids, teens, and adults alike ask themselves "WillChase and Nicole go to the dance together"? I guess you'll never knowunless you watch the movie, or I guess you know even if you haven't seen it. Oh, but if you haven't seen it you missed an awesome soundtrack with songslike Crazy by Britney Spears (okay can you tell I was usingsarcasm?).

yaddo 2012-04-27 23:46:11

Here's a thing that'll do you good.

Not only that the name of this movie is banal & stupid, but also it's titleis based on the britney spears's song by the same name, which is heard inthe movie itself. This, of course, can't be good.Nevertheless, we're talking about a real sweety here, where its name is themain flaw of it. Although being a part of a hard-to-innovate genre (teenmovies, that is), it appreciatively manages to keep its head above water. Ateen movie that actually touches you, makes you laugh + feel good withinyour belly, while being intelligent doing so.

Was this Dawson's ?

This was a decent movie, but did they steal the plot right out of Dawson's Creek ? Boy and girl live nearby---start out as friends---then become an item. There's nothing too original here.

Smart teenage flick

This is a very well made, intelligent movie. Even though it is a kind of fomula boy-girl sitcom type of plot. It doesn't go for cheap laughs, stereotypes etc. Pleasant surprise. Definitely better than American Pie.

Kramer 2012-04-23 02:32:34

Great Movie!

Ok, maybe it's because I love Melissa Joan Hart, but I really like thismovie. It uses the "Can't buy me love" concept that's been somewhatoverdone, but the intelligent wit adds something to the movie. And it'snotfull of ridiculously hot girls to try to distract the viewer from thesimplepoint of the movie. A good rainy day movie.

Keisha 2012-04-22 00:37:31

I think it's Great

I personally think that this is a very good movie. I know many peopleconsider it to be just another teen love movie, but people have to realizethat they are all different in some way. I think that the cast is great.Themovie itself is also great. I think that Adrian(Chase) does a good jobconverting over to one of the others. I also like how Designated Dave, finally gets a girl, that he truly deserved! I recommend seeing this movieif you have not, and if you have watch it again, you just might fall inlovewith it all over again!

SMWSk8s 2012-04-21 14:42:04

good attempt at another teen movie

Actress Melissa Joan Hart does a fine job portraying the role of "NicoleMaris" a popular high school student. We are introduced to band-hoppingloser next door played by Adrien Grennier. The two neighbors have beenfriends since junior high, and follow completely different social circles. It's up to Nicole to decide how she is going to make him popular, and uptohim to decide to give up his unpopularity.Grennier and Hart play their roles well. However, they cannot save theirworth-while performances with this soggy, non original diologue seen in somany teen movies today. This movie is not a total loss, a rentalno-brainer.It over rules teen movies such as "Whatever It Takes" and "Eight Days aWeek" but is no where near the intelligence of "Clueless" or "10 Things ihate about you"- Good attempt.

Drive Me Home

Drive Me CrazyFor some reason or the other, I had high hopes for DRIVE ME CRAZY. Comingoff one of the worst periods in cinema for teens, I was praying that vetMelissa Joan Hart could save me from utter garbage like SHE'S ALL THAT,TEACHING MRS. TINGLE, and TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU. All of those filmsrelied on the Gap-universe ethic and outlandish stereotypes to portray theirrespective teen microcosms. They all hide behind the "I loved John Hughes"excuse, but Mr. Hughes's films were never like the current crop ofair-headed junk that young audiences are eating up. Good films likeELECTION, which used real high school students for extras, are passed on by,not as dumb or remotely hip to be noticed. All this makes DRIVE ME CRAZYeven more of a disappointment than it already is.SABRINA, THE TEENAGE WITCH's Melissa Joan Hart stars as Nicole, aoverachieving teenager with a flighty mom (V's Faye Grant), an absent father(7TH HEAVEN's Stephen Collins), and a loser neighbor named Chase who happensto be the same age(Adrian Grenier, the recent ADVENTURES OF SEBASTIAN COLE).Attending the same school, both Nicole and Chase couldn't be further apartin terms of popularity. She, arranging the school's centennial celebrationdance, he, spending his time putting orange ink in the sprinkler system. Thetwo are exact opposites. When Nicole's object of affection, a basketballjock with a haircut that needs to seen to be believed, won't ask her to thedance, she enlists the help of her former childhood friend Chase to help hermake the narrow-minded jock jealous of what he could have had. Chase, hurting from a recent breakup with his girlfriend, sees the opportunity tomake his ex jealous as well. Wackiness and hidden feelings ensue. While DRIVE ME CRAZY is decently made film, I was shocked to find the moviedevoid of any kinetic energy at all. Director John Schultz only seems tounderstand soundtrack plugs and ugly closeups. This is the only high schoolcomedy this year with the pungent aroma of odd seeping through. Scenes beginand end without much structure, actors are left to hang with often very poordialog, and the aforementioned soundtrack is terribly by-the-numbers. Theonly time the audience seemed to truly enjoy the film was when BritneySpears's current "Crazy" song was cued up. Sad for a film that seems to wantto please so much. The plot alone is something more menacing than autopilot. I'm not sure whatthe next level beyond clichéd may be, but DRIVE ME CRAZY is it. I find ithard to believe that the studios are not noticing that the teenage films areall alike. Almost each one has climaxed at a dance of somesort. I'm suremost people could tell me the entire sequence of events in DRIVE just fromobserving the poster. Predictability is one thing, DRIVE is completelywithout any invention.Melissa Joan Hart is a very likable performer. Her past triumphs intelevision have made her a very natural and charming actress. While DRIVEdoesn't require anything in the form of effort from Hart, she still managesto ingratiate herself with the role. Adrian Grenier was wonderful in thelittle seen (and probably rightly so) ADVENTURES OF SEBASTIAN COLE. He's gota unique low-key charm, and is probably one of the few actors his age with ahandsomeness that isn't forced or common. I liked him in DRIVE only for thefact that Grenier makes his character seem more two-dimensional than on thepage. His loser character seems to enjoy his popularity for a short time. Anice change from the usual "It's all right to be different" riffraff thatpasses for morals in these types of films.DRIVE is lifeless. A film that just doesn't bother to meet the audiencehalfway. I wanted it to be so much more than a routine teenage melodrama. I've had enough of that, and I think the audience has too. In a theater fullof 14 year-old girls, nobody laughed, nobody cheered, nobody swooned. For amovie genre that prides itself on these ethics, DRIVE could be considered adisaster. For me, it's just sadly sub-par.--------4/10

You Drive Me Crappy

Who on earth gave funding for this film? Melissa Heart can't get the manshewants, so she uses the old lets use my ugly ex-friend to make him jealoustrick, and of course they end up falling for each other. This wouldn't besobad but it is horrible executed, it runs to long and is very very dry, anddon't even get me started subplot about poor Melissa's estranged father. This film was meant to launch Melissa into the big screen world, butinsteadit just launched her into the gutter.

Wonderful!

Melissa Joan Hart's best work!

Very shallow

Why did I buy this film? Cos it has a track by what used to be one of my fave bands for years on the soundtrack (Steps "One For Sorrow"), I was interested to see if Melissa Joan Hart can do any other character apart from Clarissa and Sabrina (I grew up with this girl, and she can't), and for the Britney video to "Drive Me Crazy". Otherwise, I have a penchant for these rom-coms set in high schools.I grew up watching Melissa in kids TV, first on Clarissa and then on Sabrina. When you're young, you don't really notice the acting, but in this, you really do notice how bad she is. Like most TV actors trying to move into movies, they don't really try too hard to move away from the character they've been playing for years. She goes through the motions, and most of her laughter, and OTT-ness is fake.Another thing is most of the time, these movies have drop-dead gorgeous stars. Adrian Grenier?! Who is he exactly? He's not good-looking - or he doesn't appeal to me - and he's just not right for that role.Ali Larter appears in this, the girl with the ever-changing hair colour, and the film actually looked up by having her in it. She's a great actress, and with the wacky hair colouring (every shade of pink, red and purple you can think of) and styles. It's worthwhile getting this movie purely for her.The extras aren't up to much, apart from the Britney video - I love that song. You've got the usual theatrical trailer, various TV spots, and two music videos. There's nothing special about this teen rom-com. It's never properly explained why the two main characters gave up speaking to each "it's called junior high", or why they were too shallow to even bother to keep up the friendship. If you like this sort of thing, it's good, but the storyline is getting a bit old and tired now.

An ok movie

This is another teen/comedy/romance movie about two nextdoor neighboors whopretend to be dating so the girl can get her dream boyfriend and the boy canget his exgirlfriend back by making them both jealous. The acting is goodalso, especially Mellissa Joan Hart and Ali Larter who are both hot! If youwant a good teen comedy then get "Drive Me Crazy"!

Jessica Sydney KUO 2012-04-16 10:17:17

It wasn't that bad

I went in seeing this movie thinking, ok, Britney Spears sings the mainsong, this movie has to be like those other bad teen movies. It turned outto be suprisingly watchable. It does follow the standard formula of teenmovies and is very predictable, but sometimes, filled in a world where thegood movies always end in unhappy endings or some kind of killing, you needa movie that has a nice, happy ending.
