Good action flick

Just what I was in the mood for. Vengeance, good special effects andgreat action. Not deep or realistic by any means, but it was effectivein making it easy to suspend belief. In the vein of Rodriguez andTarentino, closer to Rodriguez for it's gore. Well worth the $3.99 paidto download it from Amazon. In some respects similar to Ghostrider. Nota big fan of Cage and he's made some lousy movies, but this was one ofhis better ones. I've generally liked William Fichtner as an actor e.g.Black Hawk Down, Armagadon. I thought he was a little weak here as the"Accountant" but passable. Cage was decent. Amber Heard, who I neverheard of was okay. Wouldn't be looking for a sequel anytime soon but itwas definitely entertaining.

High-Octane, Stupid Fun

You have to know going in - this is a bad movie. Of course, it's supposed to be. I didn't expect much, when I plunked down the cash for the 3D movie ticket. I was surprised to have one of the best cinematic times I've had in the last year. The driving stunts are awesome, the acting and dialogue...well, it's what you'd expect from an homage to bad '70s drive-in movies. Gratuitous sex and violence, kick-ass (if unbelievable) action, Amber Heard... This might just be the most perfect guy movie since 'Rambo'.

Non stop action.

This review is from: Drive Angry [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Entertaining, a bit on the graphic side at times but its the movie that just keeps on giving! A few absolutley gross scenes aside I would rate as a cool movie, just plain cool.

Pure trailer trash

Basically a redneck road-movie for your average below IQ 90 redneck.Bad dialog, sloppy action scenes, lousy cinematography, and a heroinethat looks like she has screwed herself into Hollywood, from some hillbilly Texas rat hole, just to play a hill-billy squeeze caught in aTexas rat hole. If this sort of trailer trash movies is what awaitspoor Nicolas Cage his time as one of the most entertaining actors inHollywood is over. I really hope his agent picks a better script nexttime or that Mr cage at least buys a pair of good glasses.Save yourmoney, save your brain. Pick another movie instead. Move along. Thereis only pain here.

Badass 3D movie (Movie Theater review)

This is one of the movies that 3D is not only used well but actuallyenhanced by REAL 3D, looks awesome and is NOT weighted down by it. Youdon't leave feeling cheated. The movie itself, Drive Angry is actuallypretty good. The only thing i noticed is slow the pacing, it was a bituneven, for a movie called Drive Angry it does slow down here or thereand i felt a little bored but luckily it picked up fairly quick. NickCage gives a decent performance. Amber Heard and especially WilliamFichtner who plays "The Accountant" were also good. This is easily the best 3D movie I've ever seen. It doesn't feel like agimmick, its used perfectly, the way it should be. It was worth The 5extra bucks.Movie 6.4/10 3D: 8/10 Theater experience: 9/10

Cool movie!!

This review is from: Drive Angry [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) If you want action 3D, this is the movie you should watch. Interesting story and a lot of spice! 3D graphics are great.Great entertainment!

It is hard to imagine Drive Angry sustaining this level of trash-tastic hysterical hokum, and I regret to inform you that it does not, even with all of the above in 3-D.

Pretty stupid, and not in a good way

Nicolas Cage has, and we can all agree on this, a major problem in recent years of picking movies that aren't stupid. Well, the trend continues. This movie is like a high budget B movie, which I suppose is the point. However, I've never bought a movie that wants to emulate bad movies (which is what B movies are). So this is some grindhouse movie wannabe. It's not that the movie was vile or offensive, it wasn't because it was not believable. I started surfing the net 20 minutes short of the end and if not for the other person with me would simply have turned it off out of boredom. The plot, what little there is, is silly and uninteresting, not to mention there's no reason in the world his female "sidekick" would have had any interest following along on his mission.I guess I'd almost call it a really, really bad emulation of a Quentin Tarantino movie. Also, when I called it high budget I meant high budget for B. The special effects are actually pretty bad, clearly at some points they just rushed through the CGI because they were so desperate to finish the project.

Cage Isn't So Much Angry, as Moderately Annoyed

For every good film starring Nicolas Cage, there are a half dozen or sothrowaway films that fade into the background. The 2011 semi-grindhousefilm DRIVE ANGRY is pretty much one of those throwaways. I don't meanit's a crappy movie. There's enough here to keep the film somewhatentertaining if you're looking for some mindless fun. I suppose itmight've been even better in 3D. From what I remember, this film wasactually filmed with 3D cameras as opposed to the crappypost-conversion process. I've only seen it in 2D, so I couldn't tellyou if the extra dimension adding anything to the experience. The storyis straight out of the world of grindhouse: Nicholas Cage is JohnMilton, a man who's escaped from Hell, and he's on a mission. Hisdaughter was murdered by the insane leader of a Satanic cult, and thissame maniac has plans on sacrificing Milton's newborn grandchild in aritual to open a gateway between Hell and Earth. But Milton didn'tleave Hell alone...there's a mysterious figure known only as theAccountant on his tail with the intention of taking Milton back.Sounds cool, huh? It sort of is. The movie's loaded with crazy actionand violence, including a gun battle in a motel room while Milton chugsa bottle of whiskey and continues getting freaky with a barmaid whilegunning down multiple opponents. The scene alone should earn this movieawesome status. It probably would if there were more scenes asoff-the-wall as this one. The final confrontation where Milton remindsus why the film is titled DRIVE ANGRY is pretty crazy, but the rest ofthe action in the movie is nothing we haven't seen before. The actionalso suffers from weak effects. The movie had a $50 million budget butI guess it all went into the car chases. Seriously, cars are explodingat the slightest hit and there's plenty of opportunities for tossingcars here. What CG is in the movie, is generally pretty terrible. WhenMilton uses his "god-killer" in the finale, I nearly laughed at amoment when we're supposed to be cheering. When it comes to goreeffects, I always prefer practical over CG and the practical effects inthis film, while not always perfect, were much better.I understand that this film is following in the recent trend ofbringing the grindhouse film back to mainstream (not that that's a badthing, e.g. GRINDHOUSE, HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN), but even characters in agrindhouse film need to be interesting. Milton's character has a coolpremise: he's busted out of Hell. So why is his character so boring?Cage delivers his lines with the energy of someone whose just beenwoken from his afternoon nap. For a man who's escaped from the bowelsof the underworld, he sure doesn't have a whole lot of passion for hismission. Someone should've reminded him the movie's called DRIVE ANGRY,not DRIVE PEEVED. Amber Heard is a waitress who finds herself drawninto Milton's quest and, in addition to providing some amazing eyecandy, is the only one who seems to care what's going on. The realscene-stealers in this movie are the villains. Billy Burke is downrightcreepy as cult leader Jonah King with his Southern drawl and aself-righteous attitude that convinces his followers that this manknows what he's doing. More than anyone, the best performance in thefilm comes from William Fichtner as the Accountant. He's mysterious(instant cool points for any character) and deadly, cool and calm as hetrails Milton and dispatching anyone who gets in his way withoutbreaking a sweat. It's just business as usual for this Hell minion. The film really has all the best grindhouse staples: gratuitousviolence, T&A, awful dialogue, and car chases with plenty ofexplosions. The problem is, when a scene isn't giving us one or more ofthese things, it slows to a crawl and I kept losing interest. Thedialogue is pretty terrible and any attempt at delivering exposition orexpressing emotion falls flat. So keep it short and keep the pacemoving fast to get us to the next action scene. In the end, the movieis just forgettable. It's fun enough to watch, but I doubt it'll beleaving a lasting impression with anyone. Not Cage's best, but at leastit's not THE WICKER MAN.

Drive Angry was offensive!

The whole story revolved around Nicolas Cage who had just escaped hell on a bloody mission to save his daughters baby from this wacked out occult leader who plans to sacrifice the child!Hot on Nicolas's trail is the collector"Devils bounty hunter". This movie might have actually been good if they had left out the extremely graphic porno scenes! The profanity in the movie is totally over the top! This B-movie should have been rated NC-17(X)not rated-R!I was very dissapointed to see Nicolas cage play in this kind of movie. The only good thing in this movie was the driving of beautiful vintage muscle cars!I don't recommend anyone see this movie...the filth is not worth the money!Hillery T. watkins

All Bad Words Are Gonna Break Loose

Drive me angry, it's definitely a C-Class movie. There's even no onesingle memorable moment. Milton (Nicolas Cage) is a father who escapesfrom hell to avenge his daughter's death and urges to save the onlybaby granddaughter, meanwhile The Accountant from hell is assigned toretrieve Milton. I wish I don't have to review thiz movie, because allbad words are gonna break loose. Trapped inside the Cage again, we aretired of your experimental hot-shot wannabe since "Ghost Rider" (2007).Amber Heard is expected to be the hot chick element but on the contraryshe has become unsexy and extremely boring. The villain, Billy Burke isexpected to be fierce and memorable, but instead of that he deliversemptiness. The only appearance that's a little bit better comes fromWilliam Fichtner as The Accountant with his charismatic and eccentriccharacter. The story itself is never clear since the beginning. Theaction sequences are amusing, always shaking all the time and notfocus. I even don't know what is really going in that moment. Yeah,it's a terrible cinematography. It comes from the Director who almostevery time puts anything that smells cliché and not original into hisfilms such as "Dracula 2000" (2000) and the remake "My BloodyValentine" (2009). The intention is to become cult movie or somethingdifferent, but eventually it turns out to be a big blunder. "Gimme onegood reason I shouldn't shoot you in the face", well I know you'redriving... But your driving is completely sucks.Visit My Blog on JONNY'S MOVEE: http://jonnyfendi.blogspot.com

A raunchy world where anything and everything goes

This is a modern day grindhouse-like movie, though it doesn't feel asinnocent as it would have in the '70s when those films where fresh andpushing brand new limits, not to mention didn't have an over-blownbudget where they had to instead get creative with what they had. Itultimately made those films what they were, flaws and all, and it'sjust one way of how unappreciative cult films were born. Flashy, exaggerated, crude, "Drive Angry" has an ensemble cast where everyoneis a bad guy, cops and waitresses included, not to mention there'smuscle cars and plenty of violence and sleaze to mop the floorwith...and then some.A gun-toting man named Milton (Cage) is shown in a heated car chasewith two shady guys in Colorado. He demands info to get a baby backafter a satanic cult leader with a bad southern drawl named Jonah King(Billy Burke) snatched it for a coming sacrifice. After dealing withthe two men, he heads over on a state by state hunt to find wherethey're keeping the infant. A small town bombshell of a waitress namedPiper (Amber Heard) quits her job and picks up Milton on the way out. After boyfriend trouble, a fight breaks out and Milton gives a helpinghand to the young, bloody-lipped vixen and they take off in her nowex's '69 Charger. From then on out she feels like a strategy to thescript instead of an authentic person to either be self-sacrificingwhen need be, eye-candy when things lose steam and then force sympathyto make a small stab at being a well-rounded picture if it ever wasone.William Fichtner, from "Prison Break," puts on a decent and memorableperformance as a more eccentric and supernatural suit and tie than thementioned called "The Accountant" who sniffs the air and usessuperhuman strength to track Milton. He flashes an imaginary FBI badgeand uses hypnosis on the local police for their resources to find thefugitives. The movie does whatever it wants, where it wants, when itwants, whether that be violence, nudity, cursing, chases, stunts, outof place jokes or just general horniness with all included no matterthe context. Part of this is fun but where it loses its replay value ispractically every scene is made to be an exception to the rule andinstead of breaking boundaries it feels far too easy due to beingrobbed of any consequence or challenge. Troma Entertainment has beenpumping out movies like "The Toxic Avenger" for the last couple decadesin a similar vein, though where those felt like down-in-the-gutter"clever trash" with unwashable offense and grime dripping all over it,this feels like a slicker and more spoiled Hollywood version, one whereyou know they're well-known, well-paid actors performing in front ofexpensively laid out sets that include blue screens andstate-of-the-art CGI.Nick Cage goes through the motions, puts on another bad toupee andnever once flinches. I could see if he's going for a Clint Eastwoodstyle with a no nonsense mission ahead of him to rescue the baby andhead back, though he constantly stops to smell the roses with variousindulgences but hardly thinks or gets surprised when a problem arises.Example: drinking liquor from the bottle, loudly screwing, while stillwearing his cool shades and clothing, and then popping caps into randomguys walking through the door while never "dismounting" in perfectsequence and timing, not to mention without being seriously scathed.Funny? I guess. Possible? Might as well give him wings and the power tobreath fire while they're at it because there's nothing he can't do.This is indeed loaded with fast-flying action scenes, gory violence andvulgarities--which is a plus because it's getting away with more for ageneral audience theater movie compared to ten years ago--though thedevil-worshippin' baby snatchers seem like old SNES archetypes with nopurpose other than to be killed, while the main character has unlimitedlives and never a facial expression worth remembering."Drive Angry" feels like the writers couldn't resist including anythingthey felt like, and even when they tried to set up a worked out sceneor introduce a new character it seemed all too convenient andpreplanned just to set up another. This makes everything soconsistently simple and it becomes impossible to forget that you'rewatching a movie to momentarily escape into. Even the antihero personaEastwood made infamous included some reserve and measurement so itwould be easier to accept an over-the-top scene because he studies anddoes nothing but waits for it--this just seems like an adult LooneyTunes adventure. Imaginative, yes, but what the viewer is presentedwith--a marketable and forced "cult classic" like "Death Proof" and"Machete"--wasn't able to bottle all those free-floating ideas to makethem worth reliving over again. Awful!!!!!

My title says it all....Cage ought to hang his head really low for agreeing to do this one..It stunk....the trick is if you don't have a plot or just want to tentalize...then make a film like this. Hang down your head Tom Dull....oh wait...Cage!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

kickassmonk94 2012-05-12 13:51:19

Terrible, just terrible

This has to be one, if not the worst films I've seen at the cinema.I knew this wasn't going to be amazing, but come on it was so bad andmade very little sense.Nicolas Cage looked bored the whole way through , his worst acting jobI've seen to date, I've now made the descision never to see any more ofhis films after seeing this and Knowing. He also had this ridclioushairstyle making him look like a Robert Plant lookalike to add to thisridiculous film, i swear his face didn't change the whole way through, just the same stupid expression muttering unexplained story lines. You may watch the trailer n think "yeh this will be great , Nicolascage n a blonde shooting people in a muscle car" no wrong. It turns outit is just some nonsense about the satanic worshippers and a guybreaking out of hell to get them, Really Nick? is this what levelyou've dropped too? I just have no words to describe how bad this was,at some points there is serious violence which is just stupid, and thenits trying to be funny and it fails and then it trys to bemeaningful.Just a blurry mess of rubbish. This film also highlights why 3D needs to stop. As if 3D is a new coolthing? no its not, its about 50 years old, just because its betterquality means nothing and adds nothing to the film, instead every 5minutes there's a bullet or a axe flying at you, yeh great, but I'veseen it over and over again. 3D is only being pursued because they knowthey can charge more for it and they can sell T.V's like they did withHD, well I'm sorry but 3D will not work and if you don't believe me gowatch this film.1/10 AVOID THIS FILM AT ALL COSTS, Don't WASTE YOUR MONEY

2012-05-12 08:58:11

Would not call this entertainment

In every movie, Nicolas Cage has seemed to act in the same monotonous, boring way. In this movie it was even WORSE. As others have described, if you're looking for a movie with nudity and blood you should waste two hours of your life on this one.

2012-05-11 20:35:25

This movie is BAD!!!!

I hardly ever do reviews on here but I felt the need to warn people of this horrible movie. I love cheesy B type movies, and when I read the plot and reviews on this I thought it would be right up my alley. Sounded like a grindhouse type flick with lots of action. Boy was I wrong. The acting in this film is TERRIBLE. Especially the girl riding around with Nic Cage. I guess they cast her cus she was good looking cus her acting is awful. I think Nic Cage is a pretty good actor. But I dont know what he is thinking when he takes the scripts he agrees to do. For the most part most of his movies are bad. But this is beyond bad! Its easy to see why this movie flopped. Watching it on Blu ray, you could really tell how rushed and low budget this movie was. My son walked in the room and looked at the screen and asked why I didnt get the Blu-ray copy of this. I had to tell him it was the blu-ray copy. It was almost like watching a SYFY original movie in terms of video quality. I'm glad I rented from a redbox and only paid a dollar for it. Opening scene was promising, everything beyond that is awful!!!! Hilariously bad screeching rock music when Nic Cage steps out of the car. Hilarious bad dialogue and kiss between Nic and a waitress at the diner. Tom Atkins isnt given much to do in this and almost looks depressed in the few scenes he's in. Avoid this at all costs!!!

Drive Angry

I was a bit dubious about because of the leading actor having a spellof bad films in the last few years, but I was more convinced afterseeing the leading actress interviewed on Top Gear, she admitted to bebisexual and having a huge love for cars, hence choosing this film, from director Patrick Lussier (Dracula 2001, White Noise: The Light).Basically John Milton (Nicolas Cage) is chasing Satanic cult leaderJonah King (Billy Burke) against the clock because he killed hisdaughter, and her baby, his only biological link to her, has beenkidnapped. King is planning to sacrifice the child for the Satanicworship at midnight in three days, so Milton picks up the trail headingfor Oklahoma, along the way he also rescues Piper (Amber Heard) fromher cheating fiancé. As they travel looking for the Devil worshippingmadman there noticeably odd things about Milton, such as his driver'slicence being out of date, having a strange gun, and being pursued by aman in a black suit with an FBI ID calling himself The Accountant(William Fichtner). It becomes apparent, after Piper is kidnapped andfound again by Milton that he is not truly human, because when itlooked like he was dead his fatal injury healed, so he has seeminglycome from Hell or back from the dead. In the end, after killing villainKing with his last bullet, it is apparent The Accountant, who was sortof in cahoots with the hero all along, and Milton will have to go backto wherever they came from, and Piper is entrusted to take the rescuedbaby granddaughter to Webster (David Morse). Also starring Tom Atkinsas Cap, Katy Mixon as Norma Jean, Christa Campbell as Mona and PruittTaylor Vince as Roy. Cage does alright in his part that's very similarto Ghost Rider, and Heard is obviously hot and feisty, the car chasesequences and near-animated action naturally steal the show, as well asthe gory moments and special effects, a reasonably fun action fantasyhorror. Worth watching!

Sharp 3D lensing and low-octane camp humor help rev up Drive Angry.
