too good

yeh its full of cliches and the jokes are so predictable but it still will have you creasing cos it is one of those films that will make you laugh non-stop. if you liked boyz in da hood etc then you definately will appreciate this film...i had my doubts but its stupidly funny and great for when you dont wana have to use your brain to follow a story line cos the story is a rip off and a fantastic one i couldnt control myself how much it made me laugh. i love the wayans brothers and they even get a dig at their own mama in the script. i dont care what the other review up there says about it being a turkey or whatever its damn funny and i know that theres a lot of people out there who think the same and if you havent seen it i can guarantee it will make you laugh big time.

The Funniest spoof film ever!!!

This is my all-time favroite film-it is so funny you'll never stop laughing.I would recomend this movie to anyone,but particualy to fans off spoofs of hood movies.If I could give it more than five stars, then i would.Also, check out the sound track to this movie-it's got some of the best hip hop and funky tunes arround-10/10-buy it,you won't regret it.

MAN I'LL SUCK YA D!CK MAN!

The funniest and crudest movie i have ever seen. If you have a sense of humor get this movie. This is by FAR the funniest movie i have ever seen. Its all basically about a man named Ashtre, who goes back to the hood to live with his father (who is younger than him in maturity.) The movie has so many funny parts mocking the hood. In one party scene is shows three black men with their pants down and their boxers showing (making fun of the way people these days wear their pants so low.) My favorite part of the movie is when a cracked-up man goes to Marlon Wayans and asks for money. When marlon (Loco) says no, the man replies "Man, ill suck ya dick man. Then you see Loco and the man go behind a truck and loco come out and zipper his pants up. The movie is hysterical. You would definitely enjoy if you enjoyed movies such as:-The scary movie series-Dude, wheres my car?-white chicks-half baked-beavis and butthead do america\and many more!!

IT WAS MODERATELY FUNNY

THIS PARODY OF HOOD MOVIES IS REALLY NOT ALL THAT BAD. HERE'S THE ''PLOT''; A YOUNG MAN HANGS OUT IN THE HOOD WITH HIS THUGGISH FRIEND. SHAWN AND MARLON WAYANS ARE FUNNY AS THE TWO HOMEBOYS OF THE FILM. FILM HAS FUNNY MOMENTS, BUT LOOKING AT SPOOFS COULD GET TIRING AFTER A WHILE. THE MOVIE SPOOFS SCENES FROM ''BOYZ N THE HOOD'', ''MENACE II SOCIETY'', ''DEAD PRESIDENTS'', ''SOUTH CENTRAL'', AND ''COLORS''. IT'S AN OK MOVIE TO WATCH IF YOU NEED A LAUGH.

Hilarious

What could be funnier than attacking controversial issues, without taking them seriously? From a poor guy who goes around giving people cheeseburgers (and other things) to a game of po'nopoly to aiming a USSR missle at a gang of thugs, things couldn't get any more chaotic. Or hysterical.

Horrendous

I don't understand the humor in this film. I also found it offensive onhow Koreans were depicted in that film, despite how it is actually justa caricature of Koreans in those areas. First, the actors are Japanese,and they make the most rude expressions of Koreans in that film. Itdisgusts me on how these people are expressed. I felt anger justwatching that one scene, and how they were so badly made out in thefilm. The humor lasts just for one laugh, and then you don't understandwhy it's even funny. It's crude humor with the most disgustingrepresentation of society there. I found it to be an offensive filmoverall... Maybe it was just because I never lived in the "hood" or sawany "hood" movies, but I don't intend to either.

well ill start off by saying this is one of the best movies ive everseen!...the story is great (theres not really much of a story) and thewhole thing kept me laugh the entire time i watch it. plus the movie hassome great catch phases you can use to make others laugh........................all in all...99/10

Very boring.

Going by the good words of my friends, I hired this movie, hoping that itwould at least equal the laughs of the similar movie, "House Party", but Iwas very disappointed, and very bored.Falling asleep while watching a movie is never a good sign. I don't knowwhether this didn't appeal to me because I don't live in "da hood", or ifI'm not black, but it's probably one of the two.It tries to spoof a few movies, only coming up with a couple of laughs, butin the long run it fails miserably. Miss it.

The Best Keenen Ivory Production Yet

All you need to know is that if you never see another Wayans movie, you should see this one. It's ten times funnier than Keenan Ivory Wayans' other films that all turn ridiculous at some point. Of course Don't Be a Menace is stupid, idiotic and doesn't make much sense but that's the point! It's a comedy. If you have one inch of humor in your soul you'll find at least two scenes in this movie that will have you chuckling or falling down laughing. But I must warn you. If you haven't seen Menace II Society, Boys in The Hood, Poetic Justice or Higher Learning you're going to be lost faster than the Blair Witch crew. Yep, in order to appreciate Don't Be A Menace you have to see the films that inspired it or you won't understand a thing. If you've seen these other films you'll understand where the film is coming from and why bringing comedy into such dangerous drama becomes a beautiful thing. At least for two hours. Besides any movie with Bernie Mac is hilarious even if he wasn't in it for more than three minutes. I would have given it five stars but some things in the movie were just too silly to be funny. Hands down this is the funniest the Wayans have been since In Living Color.

It sucks, but you'll still like it!

First of all, Don't Be a Menace shouldn't really even be called a "movie". Instead its a series of adventures that make fun of hood movies from the 90s decade. Shawn and Marlon Wayans are a great comedy team and Marlon's voice in this movie sounds kind of cooky (like Larenz Tate in Menace II Society)Truth be told: This is a hilarious movie. Between the Korean store shootings, Keenon Ivory Wayans as the mailman yelling "MESSAGE!" in more than one occasion, and Crazy Legs' dream of being a dancer, you'll laugh your butt off. This movie doesn't have a plot...which is better in some cases and not in others. The only thing you won't like about the movie is that it had a very low budget (it cost more to do the VHS box art), and that the movie is very dark and Loc Dog's voice..... at least that scared me. Overall, Don't Be a Menace is a hilarious movie. Believe it or not, it's better than "Scary Movie". It sucks as an actual movie, but not as a fan just looking for a good laugh.

The Message

If u want 2 laugh ure arse off then buy this! Grandmas that smoke out and breakdance, rude bedtime stories and some of the best lines that i have heard in a film. i just wish it was on sail in the UK

not since waynes world have i laughed so much

I saw this film on TV last night and I came straight here to buy it, I have never seen anything so funny since "waynes world" and "aeroplane" dare i say it? it was better! it is just laughs the whole way through, without those boring serious bits, i have not seen films by these people before, and i had not heard of it before, you dont have to have that knowledge to 'get it'. The whole atmosphere of the film is just brilliant, i found myself laughing aloud to myself just thinking about some of the characters and quotes, and that is a sure fire way of knowing its a great film!

Before 'Scary Movie'

Before 'Scary Movie' the Wayans Brothers made this movie, 'Don't Be aMenace'. It is a spoof on movies like 'Boyz N the Hood' and 'Menace IISociety', two great movies about the hoods in Los Angeles.'Don't Be a Menace' starts pretty nice, although stupid, with some veryfunny moments. It is the same kind of humor you see in 'Scary Movie', notthe most intelligent kind. As long as it works that is fine, but afterthirty minutes I wanted this movie to end. After this every single joke wasthe same. When a movie like this becomes boring it is not very good. Notthat it is good with any other kind of movie, but here it seems actuallypretty hard to make it boring.Although 'Scary Movie' doesn't belong to my favorite movies either at leastI had fun while watching it. For the first thirty minutes it was the samewith this movie. Watch those minutes and then turn to somethingelse.

Hits more often than it misses

Shawn and Marlon Wayans, along with director Paris Barclay, have created avery humorous satire of the flood of films recently dealing withAfrican-American life in the ghettos of inner-cities of America. "Boyz inthe Hood" and "Menace II Society" are among the films at which the Wayansbrothers poke fun. "Don't be a Menace..." follows the story ofAshtray(Shawn Wayans) as he wades through a series of episodes in Barclay's"hood." He lives with his father, who is "only a couple of years olderthanhim." Among the lessons his father teaches him are: "No smokin' my shit,no drinkin' my shit, and if you bring any of them hos up in here, make sureI fuck 'em first", and (drinking and driving)"That shit is fun, man!" Nostereotype or politically-correct boundary is too sacred for the Wayansbrothers to poke fun at. Some of the jokes hit, some miss, and the funwilldefinitely be increased by those who have seen the films that "Don't Be AMenace..." frequently jests. Not extremely culturally-important fare, butagood laugh, nonetheless.

Without style and a bit disturbing.

Don't get me wrong there are a few funny moments (like the guy getting JUMPED into Toothpicks gang) but the rest is boring. And in some places disturbing. Like when Legs fantasizes about being MC HAMMER. Now that is scary! Not because MC HAMMER is long since gone but because it looks like it should be in the movie FREAKS due to its sheer ugliness.The direction is very basic and pedestrian. There is no real plot and the structure of the film is so badly put together that 88 minutes feels like 188. It's a bad problem that might cause you to just stop the movie halfway thru. It wants to be in the same league as Airplane but I'm afraid that this movie is stuck down there with Surf Ninjas and Problem Child. Catch it only on TV.The DVD is in bland, bland Dolby 2.0 surround and is letterboxed at 1.85:1.

Average!

I got the Message's& Play on Words.but the Wayans Never Rise On Film Like they seem to on T.V.In Living Color had some Issues but overall it was Original.but nobody from the Family has been able to Bring that kind of Energy To Film.I Liked The Spoofs on the different Films also The Take on O.J,Michael Jackson&2pac.Keenen did a Good Job here.I Think The Family is Talented but I Would Like Too See that side more than Half-Hearted Attempts at 2nd tier Spoofs.

A COMEDIC MASTERPIECE

I laughed, I cried, I was moved. The characters in DBAM were profound and deep. Ashtre, the young black man desperately trying to make his life better, and rise up from the harsh realities of the hood. His youthful father doesn't help Tre, who is more immature than his son. A good example of his immaturity is when Dad asks Tre to read him an adult bedtime story while he pleasures himself. Cousin Loc Dogg, whose wild and law breaking ways are harmful to Tre, but is a loyal friend. Preach, the confused black activist with an affinity towards white girls from the trailer park is part of Tre's mini "posse". Crazy Legs, bound to a wheelchair, represents a person who is physically challenged, yet never gives up his dreams of becoming a dancer. Quite inspirational. Dashiki, the golddigging girlfriend of Tre, with her 10+ kids from different fathers, wants to move Tre out of the hood-a good thing, no doubt.....but at her own expense of having a man to depend on. Is Tre ready for such responsibility? The character "Toothpick" teaches children it is wrong to break the law, and Toothpick represents what you will become if you are a law breaker-a positive message, no doubt.Despite the seriousness of my description, there are some humorous parts of the movie, a good amount poking parody-type fun at other "hood" flicks, i.e. Menace II Soceity (the cheeseburger carrying vagrant is hilarious). How can I forget the cannibus smoking, church going Grandma, who adds some levity to this drama. The Korean grocery store scene represents a real life struggle between the two races, but, taken with a grain of salt, one should find humor in the constant monitoring of Tre and Loc Dogg by the shopkeepers.I highly recommend this movie for anyone interested in learning about black culture in America, as well as having a good laugh. This movie balances well between the serious side of life in the "hood", as well as throwing in a few proverbial bones for laughter. Please please please rent this DVD or VHS.

My advice is to relax and just enjoy the ride (To enjoy this film to the fullest you definitely have to get off your "moral high horse"). It is the funniest film I have seen!!!!! I developed a six pack from laughing so hard!!!! This is a guaranteed laugh a minute! The most treasured comdey in my collection!!!
