We have taken some photos of "Dinotopia: Quest for the Ruby Sunstone". They represent actual movie quality.
This review is from: Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (DVD) Truthfully, I would give this 2 stars, maybe 1, but my daughter loves this film, so I had to compromise on a 3. It's not my favorite, the storyline is a bit silly, but she loves dinosaurs and can't resist watching this one at least once a week. The whole dinotopia story (the version for adults) always seemed so preposterous to me, so this one is also a hard one for me to swallow, but I guess as a kid I had my favorite ridiculous movies that my parents didn't understand either. If your pre-schooler loves dinosaurs, this one is ok.
If you're an adult watching this, you're going to hate it. Especiallyif you're a fan of the books. Seems to me, that's what the otherreviewers were. However, my 3-year old son, who happens to be a dinosaur fanatic, LOVESthis movie. He's too young to be able to watch the mini-series or readthe books. However, this was a great way to get him introduced to theDinotopia world at his early age. No violence, no risqué dialogue, justwholesome child-friendly dinosaur fun. Why look for inconsistencies ina kid's movie? So it's not like the books - most kid's movies aren't.My son has every word of this movie memorized - subsequently, so do I.If you have young children, especially those that like dinosaurs, thismovie is perfect.
Let's start out with the fact that, yes, it's a kids' movie and it's a good fit for kids. It has fun dinosaurs and what kid doesn't like fun dinosaurs? If you're babysitting, you can sit down with your kid and enjoy this harmless, silly romp about dinosaurs, friendship and adventure that children adore and dream about. I saw this myself when I sat down with my eight-year-old cousin to watch it, and she insisted it was a great and memorable movie, on par with or even better than Pan's Labyrinth, which she had seen me watching a little before. So I watched this movie with my little film critic cousin and watched her totally adore it, beginning to end. This doesn't mean I have to pretend it's a good movie, though. It's full of idiocy, inaccuracy, and ridiculous over-simplification of the gorgeous and well-thought-out book series that it originated from. There is literally nothing else defining about Dinotopia but its dinosaurs. Everything else about their culture, buildings and society are VERY human; there are no inventions, language or behaviors just for dinosaurs as there obviously should be, they being isolated...FOREVER as they have. The movie had some big-name voice actors whose talent was wasted on plain or stupid dialogue, especially Kathy Griffin. The main character Kex (what kind of a name is that? Sounds like a cereal!) loses his surprise/wonderment at the Dinotopia world at the snap of a finger. 26 sometimes talks in slang that Dinotopia can't possibly have heard of before. One little dinosaur, Spaz, is...really irritatingly stupid. He tells awful jokes, once sucked snot out of 26's nose (thinking he was gonna get milk?) and, seconds after being born, he was walkin' and talkin' like he's several years old already. And of course, no character from the original series is anywhere to be seen. "Hey, it's a kids' movie, lighten up." Yeah, yeah, that's the answer to everything, isn't it? -_-
My three year old grandson loved the movie. He was not the least bit scared. Whereas my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter does not care for it at all. Animated adventure, an orphan runs away, he's lost at sea and washes up on a hidden island, protected from the rest of the world by sun stones. On the island people and dinosuars co-exist. The villian is another outsider who tried to take over the island after finding a ruby sunstone, he was defeated and locked away for a hundred years only to be awoken by two bumbling dinosuars. This adventure the orphan and two new found friends defeat the bad guy once again. I've watched it at least 6 times the last few days and am not tired of it yet.
OK for young kids, I'd guess up to 5. After age 5 kind of iffy whether they'd still be interested.
This review is from: Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (DVD) if you have a little one that loves dinosaurs, they will love this movie. it's perfect for little kids. my son (3) has been watching it on repeat since we got it....a week ago. and at least its something different from land before time, which are great movies but its nice to see some different characters.
She liked Nara the female protagonist and 26 the dinosaur. We were able to convert her from her fairytopia obsession with this movie, making her 5th birthday party dinotopia themed instead of Barbie. 5 stars in my book!
This review is from: Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (DVD) this item is very nice my grandson loves dinosaurs, n he is only 2 he really likes this...Very colorful to him...and good price

Madrina thank you for my movies ... I love my movies...and repeated it 3XXX .... of course her mother dial the number.....
I'm going to be brutally honest about this movie. It's mislabeled. I'llexplain that in a moment. Suffice it to say that if you are older than10 this movie will either cause you an emotion of rage or bore you totears.Generally when you make a children's movie out of a popular series theintent is usually to bring young people into a fantasy world in a safeenvironment. Apparently they missed that idea because it doesn't bringyou into anything. It makes a lot of references to the TV mini seriesand they traced a few of the backgrounds out of the original book butmostly they ignore all of the important plot devices from the seriesand replace them with Saturday morning cartoon plot devices. It may aswell have been called "Kids in Dinoland", because the ideas surroundingDinotopia are just not there, which is why it is mislabeled.Moving on to the technical side of the movie, it is not terrible but itis by no means great. The character animation is surprisingly smoothfor a goofy straight to video movie. The backgrounds look alright mostof the time, and the animation is mostly consistent. It mostly lookslike a Saturday morning cartoon though. The story is baked terrible with a side of fried stupid. It's chockfull of clichés and stupid jokes from 90's pop culture. There arereally vague references and allusions to plot points from the miniseries and books but they never go into any of them. Dinotopian cultureis not explained at all, which would be alright if it were not aboutsomeone being introduced to Dinotopian culture. Now for some nit picking. The characters are mostly forgettable andbland, except for the bad guys and 26. There were even a few attemptsat musical numbers that were bizarre. The sun stones and what theysupposedly do made even less sense than they did in the mini-series. Iseriously thought we had gotten over idiotic skateboarding in the 90's.Oh yeah and the ending leads me to believe they made this as a pilotfor another TV series that just didn't happen. To wrap up, as a fan of animation, movies, sci-fi, and other nonsense Irefuse to call something that is bad good. People use the fact thatthis is a children's movie to defend it's problems, but as it is basedon a series I give it no quarter because when it's based on a seriesfor everybody it should not exclude the majority of it's fans or peoplewho may be interested. So while I'm not prepared to call it horriblebecause it is by no means the worst thing I have ever seen, it justisn't good. If you are a fan or passerby who may be interested (likeme) this movie is not worth your time. If you need to distract a 5 yearold for an hour than this may be for you.
This review is from: Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (DVD) If your child loves dinosaurs, this is a nice change from the Land of Time collection. It's fun and well-written and animated without any negative messages. My only concern is I don't favor some of the name-calling between 2 of the "villainous" characters.
Meh.For the record, I loved loved LOVED the original book, and even readand enjoyed the sequel (World Below, IIRC).This was. . . well, it was only 76 minutes. That's the best thing I cansay about it.Rough summary (spoilers ahoy!). Protagoniat Kex runs away from anorphanage (?!) in what appears to be present-day Seattle, or possibleSan Francisco, stows away on a ship's lifeboat, which convenientlyfalls overboard in a storm. Shipwrecks or boatwrecks on a tropic islandshore, and is promptly confronted by a small dinosaur speakingflawless, colloquial American English. It doesn't get better fromthere.Almost everything that made the original Dinotopia wonderful IMHO wascarefully excised to make this 'kid-friendly', and a lot of kludge wascarefully wadded in. The brief scenes in Waterfall City were a painfulglimpse of the movie this could have been had they given a goodg*dd**n. In closing, this could have been the lowest point in Malcom McDowell'scareer - but there's still GigaShadow.
This review is from: Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (DVD) My son had to have this movie after seeing the trailer on another video. It was worth getting since the characters are fun and it has an easy story to follow. He enjoys watching this one over and over.
Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (with Stickers!)I personally didn't like the show. We had to mute the villainous characters every time they came on because they used words like "stupid" and other derogatory terms. I would not recommend renting it or buying it. It's not of the quality that we like for our small children.
This review is from: Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (DVD) If your child loves dinosaurs, get this video! My grandson watch it over and over again. Full proof to keep their attention.
Dinotopia is just a wonderful movie. We watched is twice. Our kids and grandkids loved this movie. There are 2 dvd's so it is a very long movie but well worth the time.
If you have little kids, it might occupy them for a while. But if you've spent any time at all with the books, you're going tojust get more and more annoyed with the inaccuracies and mistakes asthe movie goes on.-Ogthar, the villain, was an ancient mythical half human, half saurianking of the sunken island of Poseidos in The World Beneath but is usedas a human villain here, a cross between Roff Striker from First Flightand Lee Crabb from the original book.-using dinosaurs as Ogthar's cronies was just wrong, some humans, likeCrabb, aren't as happy on the island, but it's not likely at all you'dsee saurians like that. They've got quadrapeds walking on hindlegs, which you KNOW is wrong-the hatcheries are way off but that's only the Miniseries' fault -theSkybax was pretty accurate but they're annoying having a scene with thehatchery girl's dad riding one, the books state that "None but therider dares approach it" *ends rant* I just can't help the annoyancebeing such a big Dintopia fan. I just wish someone would make a filmthat's keeping with the books and quit changing so much.
That's exactly what this seems to be. A talking, preteen 26? More sunstone problems? C'mon-it's Dinotopia, and brimming with possibilities. Why this? And why animated?
The DVD and case was in fine condition but the product was advertised to include stickers. There were NO stickers. My child was dissapointed but otherwise, pleased to own the movie. Cute dinosaur movie. It still had its "scary" scenes with the "bad guy", but not as scary as other movies made out there, geared toward the same age level. Loved hearing Carol Burnett's voice as one of the dino characters. Loved her in Horton Hears a Who, too. Bad girl in both cartoon movies!
This review is from: Dinotopia - Quest for the Ruby Sunstone (DVD) When I want to just relax and enjoy the afternoon, this is at the top of my list, and the movie was inexcellent condition, including the outside case ! ThankYou !!!
