In New York City, an estranged couple who witness a murder are relocated to small-town Wyoming as part of a witness-protection program.
Movie Photos:
We have taken some photos of "Did You Hear About the Morgans?". They represent actual movie quality.
Intimates crime as the ultimate aphrodisiac, when it comes to rekindling doomed conjugal bliss. Move over, Viagra and sex toys.
The mediocre material gets a boost from a hardworking Grant, who uses his trademark bumbling formality to deliver dry commentary and wring out the most laughs possible.
I generally love romantic comedies, even Hugh Grant who never differsin his roles as the bumbling British guy. This movie was painful towatch. In particular Sara Jessica Parker. The role did not fit heracting. Is she normally a Nervous Nelly in real life? Because that isthe way she played it. She did not fit what I would consider to be ahigh end real estate broker who runs her own company. She stuttered andstammered her way nervously through each scene and I couldn't imagineher representing me on any business deal, or him representing me as anattorney. The storyline had promise but the acting and script wereterrible. I kept waiting and waiting for the good parts that never seemto come. Even though I watched it on cable and did not pay, per se, forthe film. I actually fast forwarded through some scenes that were justtoo long drawn out and boring. These people were truly stupid. Theother characters in the movie only helped a little bit. They werebetter then Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Sarah Jessica Parker was not bad at all in the film. But the filmitself---- garbage. For one thing, the story never continued about their witness protectionprogram! They had to include more about it, like the murderer tries tofind and hunt them down, not just CUT the whole story and move ontobuilding the relationship between Paul and Meryl! The bear scene wasjust ridiculous, that WAS Sarah Jessica Parker's worst voice andacting. At the beginning of the movie, I was a little impressed by the story.But- when they move out of Manhattan, the story just moves onto a wholeother one. That's when it became a bag of clichés and boring dejavuclips. Come on people, this is just another romance film which is theusual story: trying to get back together, some funny scenes in themovie, and at the end you cry because the main characters got backtogether.I please advise you not to see this movie... Although if you love SarahJessica Parker and her acting, this could be a good movie for it. Butthe film itself, as I said--------- garbage.1/10
I have to admit that I enjoyed this movie. Several times I found it funny, other times not so much, but overall it kept a smile on my face and I think it's entertaining. The scenes of the countryside near Cody, Wyoming (where I've been and spent a few days myself, and can attest to it's excellent beauty having seen it firsthand), and the friendly townspeople made me feel happy while watching it. Which is sort of major as I tend to depression and usually movies which were made recently have a tendency to make my depression worse. One thing though, they're both cheaters (yes, in the adultery sense), but that is to be expected from the characters within almost every modern romantic comedy, it seems (a sign of the times maybe?). There's nothing particularly deep in this movie, other than the message about how ugly it is to hide things from your spouse, and also maybe the message of how stupid city people can be; it's just a pleasant movie to watch, sort of like an episode of the Andy Griffith show. If you ever feel like watching a movie in the romantic comedy department solely for the purpose of escaping then I might recommend this one.
Spoilers throughout.Well, it's not awful but it hasn't much merit either. The story's OK initself but developed rather weakly, and the heroine's stupidity inrevealing the location of the safe house to the crooks is breathtaking- the plot needed a better means than this idiocy to bring the crooksto the safe house. 5 stars because Hugh Grant's in it and I always find him engaging.Without him it'd merit 2 or maybe 3.I couldn't see any spark between the leads. This was a major problembecause the script is so forgettable that even though I watched thismovie on DVD only last weekend, I can't remember anything much at allabout it now. Not worth going to see at cinema or buying the DVD. Wait for it on TVif you like Hugh Grant, who is the best thing in it by a long way anddoes his usual best in spite of the poor script and the "wrong" leadinglady. What's the plot? Well, as I said, I can't remember much at all. Grantand the female star are separated, he wants back together, I forgetwhat she wants but she appears to be an obsessed workaholic orsomething like that. They are unfortunate enough to be witnesses at anasty crime, are sent by the police to a safe house. The woman is acomplete idiot and gives away their location to the pursuing crooks, Imean the audience are surely yelling, what on earth did you do that foryou half-wit? You can guess the rest. I think the couple get back together at the end but really I can'tremember for sure and I'm not sure it was ever worth them trying againbut it's all so anodyne that I didn't care one way or the other.A major waste of Hugh Grant.
Here's yet another movie that should be neither seen nor heard.
It's a thoroughly delightful throwaway -- the kind of movie for which cable TV was made.
This film is terrible. The plot is slightly rusty, but works in a looseand light hearted way. That is the best aspect of it, everything elseis terrible! The acting is shocking, the extras vomit out the lines asif they have never spoken before, and Hugh Grant and Sarah Parker seemas if they are reading the script for the first time. Nothing about itworks. We got about 2/3 of the way through it before we had to leave, it wastoo embarrassing to watch, covering our faces repeatedly in sheerexasperation at how bad the acting was, and the predictable story meantthere was no need to stay for the end, so we went to HMV and boughtsome good DVDs for less than the price of the cinema ticket. If you are a middle aged woman that is not an avid cinema goer or filmwatcher, so has no concept of acting or how shabby this film iscompared to so many other, this film is probably for you, as theyseemed to be the only people laughing when we were in there.

The romantic pairing of Grant and Parker has no zing, the script is dead in the water and if we were asked us whether We Cared about The Morgans, the answer would sadly be No
Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker are supposed to pass for a married couple, but they have all the chemistry of two actors who just met and shook hands moments before the cameras rolled.
There's a scene where Hugh Grant confronts a grizzly bear and I've never rooted so hard for a predatory mammal.

I am very disappointed so many people have trashed this movie. Therewere so many funny jokes made by Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker;and Hugh Grant's accent and phrases are hysterical. For example, in thebeginning the Federal Marshall tells Sarah Jessica Parker she has tomake a choice between dying and leaving New York and there is a longpause as they all stare at her and she says, "Hold on I'm thinking." Ithink the combination of them together was very funny. Also, if youhave ever lived in a big city or a very rural area - you can identifywith this! I love their interactions with Sam Elliot and MarySteenburgen. In another scene, Hugh Grant is served a plate of eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries covered in country gravy by Mary Steenburgerand she asks him if he needs anything else, and he replies, "Just anangiogram." They are complete opposites. Plus I am sure there are manywomen out there who can sympathize with Sarah Jessica Parker'scharacter. I recommend giving this movie a chance!!
I really wanted this to be a sleeper for the rental customers but I now understand why it tanked in theaters, then put to DVD within six weeks: The end result was irritating, unfunny and corny. So that left hopefully left having an outstanding BD to maybe pump it up...not really.Admittedly, the clarity was solid for the New Mexico countryside (yes they chose to snub Wyoming - where this "takes place") but the sound was hit and miss. Quite a few falters for a DTS soundtrack, but the behind the scenes revealed the cabin set to be a fake, and every driving scene was painfully obvious as a set, so those flubs made sense. The supplements are thorough and in HD for a typical Sony release, and usually I list them one by one - but these were some of the most self-serving extras I have ever come across and do not deserve a listing. The first one to avoid I actually screened for a volume of customers and it was overwhelmingly voted as barf material - the Stars of DYHATM. Each person actually sat down (even the great Same Elliott) to brag for what seemed an eternity about how wonderful and amazing everyone is, repeatedly and then some more. The fashion supplement (apparently a staple for any SJP film) was forgettable, and if you actually watch all of the supplements (and how Hugh Grant speaks of the industry) you have a fair idea how the commentary went. The Movie IQ was the standard IMDB on screen. The only supplement worth watching is the few minute bear extra - the bear had the best acting in the film and appeared to have more fun than the actors did.Region coded A/B/C. It will provide some light entertainment as a rental, but really a skipper, even for die hard Sam Elliott fans like me. 1.5 for the film, 1.5 for the clarity and supplements.
That,my friends is the sound that represents yet, another nail in thecoffin of Hugh Grant's career in film (or what's left of it).Sadly,Hugh Grant (Four Weddings & A Funeral,Notthing Hill,About ABoy,etc.)at one time could be counted on for some smart, quality films.Since his troubles a few years back,he's been content acting in any3rd,to 5th rate piece of dreck that's sent his way (does anybody wantto remember 'American Dreams'from a few years back?---didn't think so).The second "thud" represents another nail in the coffin in the wholetired "romantic comedy" genre,in general. The plot:a (socalled)hip, urbane New York, thirty something couple, who's marriage ispretty much over & done, when they witness a gang land slaying of aclient of the wife's (Sarah Jessica Parker,as Meryl Morgan, stillchanneling her persona from 'Sex In The City',minus most of the sex).Paul & Meryl are put on the witness protection program, where they haveto be sent to another locale until the killer is found. The localeturns out to be Wyoming. We get lots of "fish out of water" jokes (orwhat passes for jokes),plus the usual batch of "bitchy" humour(likewise)between Paul & Meryl. Outside of a couple of amusingjokes, this is pretty much anemic stuff that would more be suited fortelevision. Marc Lawrence (Music & Lyrics,Two Weeks Notice) writes &directs this sorry mess of a (so called)comedy. Sam Elliot & MarySteenburgen play the usual characters that they are known for in thissqualid attempt at a sophisticated adult comedy. Rated PG-13,for somesexual content, some brief outbursts of naughty language & a briefmoment of violence (but nothing too bloody or gory). It's your money
This review is from: Did You Hear About the Morgans? (DVD) Ok, I love Hugh Grant, no problem admitting it. I love his rom-com movies. Yes, all of them, even Music & Lyrics. I can honestly say that I would have liked this one a million times more if there was a different actress playing the part done by Sarah Jessica Parker. She just didn't cut it in this film, and not with Grant. I think Marc Lawrence writes good comedies (love, love Two Weeks Notice) and I hope he writes more for Hugh Grant. I bought this film just because of Hugh and I do like his interview in the extras section and I always love hearing his commentary.
The jokes come thin and slow, the thrills are non-existent.
