Takes you on a wild ride!

This movie leaves you on the edge of your seat. You can feel what thecharacter is going through. Jennifer Anitson really plays the part ofdamsel in distress but you end up hating her at the end. Clive Owenplays his part rather well and leaves the audience with a bitter sweetrelationship with him. The villain plays his part tremendously, makingyou hate his guts every step of the way. Although Xzibit played a goodbad guy side-kick, he is better off on Pimp My Ride. His gangsterappeal works nice with the ghetto and the whole theme of the movie, buthe may need to take some time to expand his character. Overall, I wouldrecommend this movie.

What finally derails the movie is that it thinks it's a lot smarter than it is.

This is a Clive Owen Movie

Fans of Jennifers Aniston should know that she is not the maincharacter. She is actually a third banana. Clive Owen as the haplesshero and Vincent Cassel the heavy in the piece clock most of the screentime. The movie is a good little thriller. Its machinery could bederailed easily enough with a choice that seems obvious enough. Themachine chokes and sputters to get to the very end. The mail clerk andhis uncle could have been written out with no ill effect. It might havebeen a tighter story without them. One suspects that Hollywood filmstill have that social monkey on its back. Let's hope for a brighterday and more Jennier Aniston in the next movie that she is in.

Truly derailed

Charles is a married businessman. He takes a train to get to hisdestination, where he meets businesswoman, Lucinda. They talk for awhile, and then eventually, they plan to have sex. They share a motelroom, where they are preparing to have sex. A man comes between them.He beats Charles and rapes Lucinda. The man demands money, or elsehe'll expose they're secret of adultery. This movie is awful. This movie isn't derailed because of the title, but because it was just simply bad. This movie is supposed to be agreat thriller, when it is really and hour and 45 minutes of nothing. The movie's story...adultery. In movies, you want the protagonist tosucceed. I didn't want Charles Schine to succeed. He is going to commitadultery with a woman he has just met. He has a child and a wife. Nottoo many people want someone like that to succeed.Derailed has some good acting by Jennifer Aniston. She played her partwell, and I'm glad she died. That was the best part. The shooting in this movie is a little over the top. The charactersshoot multiple times, and you watch t he victim spasming as they getkilled. Not exactly something you want to watch. This movie is very boring and about as thrilling as eating week oldprunes. There was no suspense in this movie at all. That comes from thebad character development. This movie is terrible. Don't watch it.

Adrian Lyne "remake"

DERAILED works as a thriller. It keeps you on the edge of your seatmuch of the time. It was a bit disappointing that the plot twists werenot difficult to anticipate. Jennifer Anniston was surprisinglyeffective - best I've seen her since THE GOOD GIRL" I was not crazyabout the casting of the wife, Melissa George. She seemed awfully youngfor the part - could have been a daughter, and had a strangely blankfacial expression much of the time. The amount of violence was notsurprising to me but did get a bit overwhelming at times - andoccasionally unrealistic. Clearly the director was heavily influencedby Adrian Lyne films as this is - both plot-wise and visually - acombination of FATAL ATTRACTION and UNFAITHFUL rolled into one. It isprobably not just a coincidence that the same cinematographer, PeterBijou, did this film and UNFAITHFUL .

Predictable rubbish

Let's face it - Clive Owen does not have the screen presence to carry afilm as lead. His acting is at best wooden and he should stick to wherehe really belongs - on TV. This also applies to David Morrissey (whoappears in this film & proved he is just a TV actor in Basic Instinct2). The only person in this with big screen presence is JenniferAniston, who is much too talented to be wasted on junk like this. (Whatwere you thinking Jen???) The story is predictable right from the start(you'd have to be PRETTY dumb not to guess what will happen!). The plotis ludicrous in that the actions of the main character just would nothappen. Vincent Cassel's pantomime villain performance is justembarrassing and the violence is simply tedious. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!!!

Coffee Drinkers don't like Rap

Greetings again from the darkness. Swedish filmmaker Mikaeil Hafstromundertakes a very aggressive style in this psychological thriller. Thecamera angles are very hard and in your face, which is a nice approachto a movie that is constantly trying to trick the viewer. It is very difficult to put comments down about a film in which it isso important not to give away very many specifics. What I can say, sadly, is that Jennifer Aniston is miscast in this role. She is notbelievable either as a powerful financial analyst or any of the othercharacteristics she is required to possess. I really enjoyed her workin "The Good Girl" and still believe she will be a star on the bigscreen, leaving her "Friends" in the dust. This one just doesn't workeither for her or as a film.Equally miscast is Clive Owen. His idea of an American accent is tojust mumble his lines. The scenes on the train with Aniston are socrucial to the film, but fall flat in the flying sparks department.Along with the miscasting of the two leads, the script is almostlaughable in its implausibility. So many times, I wanted to just yellout, "What are you thinking, you idiot?!?!?!". Again, I will not gointo spoiler territory here. The two bright spots of the film are bad guy Vincent Cassell ("Ocean'sTwelve") and hip-hop artist and producer RZA as Winston. These twocharacters prevented me from walking out once I had the plot and twistsfigured out about 14 minutes into the film. Also, good to see Tom Conti(so brilliant in "Reuben, Reuben") back on screen.Hafstom should not be discouraged as this genre continues to be thetoughest to successfully present in film form. Psychological Thrillersare fine for books because so much more detail is permitted. The twohour limitation, along with the necessary visuals, make this type ofstory very difficult to get creative with. Most fall flat, just like"Derailed".

One of the Best Thrillers

Charles Schine is a married man with a daughter and Lucinda Harris is amarried woman with a daughter. Both just happen to meet in a train andhave some chemistry. The next day, both go into a hotel room and havesexual content and in comes a violent criminal. During the next fewdays, Charles is getting blackmailed and he must pay the criminal byprotecting his and Lucinda's family. This is a great thriller. While some might call is ludicrous, I wouldsay it's smart and compelling. Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston, andVincent Cassel call have great performances. The film starts off slow in the beginning and begins to pick up somespeed after the affair between Charles and Lucinda. There are twistsfound in every corner and I didn't find it all predictable, althoughsome "did" (yeah right).Do you know why I like it a whole lot?: This film has probably the mostperfect ending I've ever scene and the execution from beginning to endwas fantastic! This film has some dark and disturbing moments. It's asmart thriller that will keep you guessing until the end and it's oneof the best thrillers of the year. If you like these traits of athriller, then go see it.

An excellent thriller

I just saw this film for the second time, not knowing right away that Ihad seen it before. Even though there was another film on I wanted tosee tonight, "Derailed" sucked me in right from the beginning. It is atop notch thriller and is well -directed, edited and acted. Even thoughthe story is a bit spectacular (but really, what film isn't?) it cameoff as pretty realistic. The storyline is based on the moral code that if you cheat in marriage, something bad will happen. (This is actually a standard Hollywoodformula, that if you cheat, lie, take drugs, steal, ex. you will end uppaying for it, big time, before the credits roll). In "Derailed" two married people meet on a train, are attracted to eachother and, voilá - a disaster in the guise of "Fatal Attraction"ensues. It is smartly paced and intriguing. Although it contains someviolent scenes, they are more intense than graphic, which, to my way ofthinking is the sign of a good thriller.Jennifer Aniston was perfect for the starring female role, beingbelievable and identifiable. She really is a wonderful actress and notto be judged as merely a "TV actress" by "film-critic snobs". CliveOwen is always good but the most special praise goes to Vincent Casselas the antagonist. He was really powerful and all of his scenes weretotally impacted with hatred and disgust. All in all, I give this filman 8 because there really is not much to complain about. It is quitesimply a good thriller and a fine piece of movie making.

If the U.S. military could only enlist Aniston's hairstyle the world would surely sign treaties to avoid its proliferation and lock it in a silo in the Nevada desert.

Surprisingly Good

This is a good, solid movie, well above average. The plot twists are very entertaining, and I didn't see any of them coming. The video and sound on the DVD are very good. This is worth a purchase at around $5-6.

Don't miss your train!

*SPOILERS Derailed* Charles (Clive Owen), a successful ad exec and loyal family man meetsan alluring and sexy woman, Lucinda (Jennifer Aniston) on his morningcommute. Flirtation quickly escalates into passion. But this casualfling turns dangerous when a violent criminal, La Roche (VincentCassel) confronts and pulls them into a dangerous plot. Now with theirentire lives thrown off-course, Charles must figure out how to turn thetables and somehow save their families. But something does not add up... what? And why? 'Derailed' is anappropriate neo-noir, which has the only problem of a not-so-dark lady(Jennifer Aniston is not actually bad-girl material...) and makes for anice evening. It's a little run-of-the-mill, but in a good way.Rent it and watch it.Derailed: 7/10.

Not Bad, but Not Great !!

My husband and I rented this movie last night. We were in different parts of the video store but we both grabbed Derailed and we thought it would be a good movie after reading the back of the DVD case. We thought the movie started very slow to begin with. We almost turned it off. It got better as time went on and half-way through I had an idea as to what the twist was. I also did not care for the violence. I don't recommend renting Derailed. I'd wait until it comes on HBO and watch it late at night when there's nothing else to do.

Derailed (Unrated Widescreen)

Vincent Cassel is excellent and extremely cruel in this movie. Clive Owen is cunning and smart and Jennifer Aniston as always is breathtaking and here she is tragic. Execellent movie.

Derailed...

It is a story of a man whose life was derailed by a wayward whim offancy, goaded by a stranger woman, conspired by the malice of fate. Itis a story of a man who let his guards off to allow a woman derail hislife on his railed pathway to the livelihood.Seldom such a cinematic event takes place on the horizons of the worldof movies where the mere timing of the action is the cause ofdistraction. This movie deserves more appreciation thanpseudo-scientific disaster called Donnie Darko and picturesque tragedynamed The Shining. Derailed, which has been conveniently overlooked, could be an all-time-classic had it been from the era of AlfredHitchcock.Best thing about Derailed is that it is a story of a common man whofinds his safety and peace of mind in paying his bills and saving moneyfor his and his child's future. He thinks he is in control of his lifewhen he is not. He soon realizes in the wake of unforeseen turn ofevents that it's his fate who pulls the strings and sometimes, just toappease its dark sense of humour, it plays dirtiest of tricks. And whenhe finds himself in a deadly dilemma, he depends on his luck as much asanything else. He doesn't pull out any heroic tricks out of hisbackpack or handbag at just the right time. He tries though. He fails. His luck succeeds.A certain media-buzzer also appears in this movie and pulls up thecourage to actually do some acting. Cast is limited and many of themdon't have very high-profiles in Hollywood's gossip avenues and maybethat's the reason Derailed did not get the attention it deserved. Myadvice, don't ignore this hidden pearl.

Not Bad, Not Great..... Just Very Average!

I think the title of my review sums up "Derailed" quite nicely. The 1st 30 minutes of this movie starts off very slowly. So slow in fact that my husband & I were contemplating stopping this DVD 25 minutes into "Derailed" because it was so boring! However, we did finish this movie and were glad that we did as the storyline does pick after the 1st 30 minutes. There were a lot of twists and turns in this movie and some suspense, however most of the major plot details were predictable! I won't bore you with the plot details as you can read what others have mentioned about the plot in their reviews. The acting in this movie was mediocre. Clive Owen's character in this movie was the most frustrating character in this movie. I had a difficult time believing some of the choices his character made in this movie!

Nice wee thriller

I watched 'Derailed' the other night and have to see it was a niftylittle thriller with some good directorial touches and good acting fromall round. Clive Owen was quite intense and restrained in other scenesand played his role pretty well, Jennifer Aniston was surprisingly andVincent Cassel was great as the nasty villain of the piece, Laroche.Credit must go to Rza for giving a brilliant supporting performance andhe will go on to bigger things in acting terms. Wu-Tang y'all!!! Xzibitwas good too and Giancarlo Esposito turned up yet again as a detectivewho has a reason for wanting Laroche dealt with!Overall pretty enjoyable stuff with a tense and violent finale whichmade a lot of sense.

Pablo Villaca 2012-04-10 10:07:58

Em retrospecto, os vários furos do roteiro se tornam óbvios, e o fato é que Aniston não convence como femme fatale. Mas Owen e Cassel nos mantém atentos e relativamente crédulos durante a projeção.

sarah tonin 2012-04-08 16:58:26

don't even think about it

This was so insultingly ridiculous, I'm ashamed I wasted even the fewminutes on it that I did. It's the kind of awful movie that engenders so much frustration andoutrage, I have to wonder if Hitchcock wasn't dead right: actors arecattle.(If they honestly had brains and sensibility, how could they consent tolend their time and energy to such implausible rubbish?).Respect for Aniston and Owen has taken a serious nosedive. The producers of such stuff show their disrespect for the public--theyreally must think we're all Cossacks, as John Fowles suggested in hisnovel, DANIEL MARTIN.

nintendude21 2012-04-08 05:00:16

Under-rated thriller

I think this movie is most definitely under-rated. I was going to seeit in theaters years ago, but most people recommended to skip it andsee something else. I'd have to say that, after seeing the movierecently, it was an excellent film. What I liked: -The slow development of Charlie, and how he learns from his enemies toovercome them. -The whole take on family and life was from the guy'spoint of view, which gave an interesting POV - The ending was really the most amazing part. It ties both thebeginning and the end together really nicely. If you can sit through some parts, this movie could easily be the bestthriller you've ever seen (in my opinion, anyways). Although, throughout the entire thing, I couldn't imagine why I was watching someguy writing in a jail cell. I sure got my answer :PWhat parts I didn't like: -The over excessive swearing... I mean, how many times do you have tosay the "F-word" to drill it in ? -The slow pace, a bit too slow in the beginning for a thriller.
