In an exotic divided land, Delgo, an adventurous dreamer but naive teenager, must rally his group of troubled youth and some unlikely friends to protect their world from conflict between the terrestrial Lockni people, who harness the mysteries of the land. And the winged Nohrin people, who rule the skies. They live - segregated - in an uneasy peace until Delgo was framed for a crime he did not commit. After enlisting the help of a unlikely friend to escape a Nohri prison, Delgo discovers Imhoff is in danger so he must unite the two races against a common foe.
Sometime I think critics see so many movies they get jaded. There is much that is wonderful here. Yes... the storyline follows a predictable structure, and occasionally the animated walk cycles are too stiff, and yes the sidekick got kind of annoying in a JarJar Binks(sp?) kind of way. But (and this is a big but) It is visually spectacular and full of imagination. The message of the story is perhaps one we've heard before but then again we live in a world where folks do go to war for foolish reasons with people who are different from them ... so the point of the movie is not irrelevant.I enjoyed it a great deal. I found it definitely worth my time and entertaining. I think it is even more spectacular for not coming out of the studio system. If you stick around for the credits be sure to notice the job titles at the end. Very funny- my favorite was "High Priestess of Dubious **** and Jocularity" Can't remember the missing word as they go by kind of fast.
"Delgo" is the best CG film I've seen in terms of detail, color, depth, motion and dialog. Both the characters and the background are incredibly rich and seem 3D like. They pop out and come alive in every scene. It's true art! There are many characters and plots to follow, keeping kids and adults alike engaged and entertained throughout the movie. "Delgo" is highly sophisticated in terms of life lessons and character virtues/flaws. You can easily distinguish between the Lokni and the winged Norin. Delgo is endearing, Kyla is fearless, Filo is hilarious, Bogardus is courageous, Raius is fierce, and Sedessa is wonderfully mean and convoluted (my favorite character). The movie reminds me of the "Star Wars" Episodes I-III, which were spectacular in terms of the visual effects/CG and elaborate characters.
I am a huge animation fan, and always have been, and most likely willalways be. I always watch any movie to pass my own judgement, andalthough the trailer was not good at all, that didn't stop me fromseeing Delgo online. And overall, while it is not the worst animatedfilm ever or the worst movie ever, I was left unimpressed.I thought Delgo did have a good concept, to me it sounded as though itwas going to be epic and sweeping. Also the backgrounds are quite nice, with beautiful colours. However, I was not impressed with the character designs which were notonly forced and ugly but also bad video-game level. The music is alsorather generic with few memorable themes. The dialogue is roundly poor, with the comedy particularly wretched, while the story is predictable, badly paced and very disjointed with some moments of inspiration butother moments of sheer clumsiness and the characters are clichéd,barely likable and I found myself indifferent to every single one ofthem. The voice acting on the whole is rather bland, yes even the wonderfulAnne Bancroft. Freddie Pinze Jnr especially sounds bored, and ChrisKattan like his character is very obnoxious. So all in all, ratherunimpressive and disappointing. 3/10 Bethany Cox
I don't get it. I saw Space Chimps and it was a piece of crap. It made $30 million at the box office, yet I had a hard time staying awake trying to watch that movie. This movie is far better and more entertaining. Yet is the biggest flop ever at the box office. Should at least double what Space Chimps made. I enjoy science fiction and this really satisfied that need. Some characters were cheesy but the story was decent. Great visual effects. I will definitely buy it when it comes to DVD, and I don't normally buy DVD movies. I have a feeling this movie might have a turnaround once some people get a chance to see it...it has substance.
it was an okay movie i would only see it once but i can not say it was bad or great with a little work it could be a great movie
After reading the reviews and seeing the trailer I am up for this film. Over the years I have enjoyed many films, which critics had slandered and now those movies are Iconic and a part of the culture. Christmas Story, Highlander, Enemy Mine just to name a few. Critics couldn't find quality in a film if it hit them face first. I have seen them down play films and many independent films at that. After all critics are paid to give thumbs up or down. So they seem to protect the big film company's, as with out them they would be unemployed. Excellent film and everyone has done this story before. After all Romeo and Juliet which Shakespeare stole from folklore stories told in villages centuries before has been used in a multitude of films and these were welcomed with open arms. We seem to like those types of stories each in different packaging. Give credit to excellent graphics and sound track as well as quality acting in the voice work, many award winning actors and each in their own way.
This review is from: Delgo (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) As other reviewers have said, Delgo is a nice fantasy - princess/hero/villain - you write the rest. What makes this worth buying is the art work, the color and the precision of the graphics, especially the battle scenes. I watched it once for the story and immediately a second time to enjoy the art. On blu-ray with a 46" screen it was spectacular and I know I will watch it again. With the vocal talents of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Anne Bancroft, Val Kilmer, etc., you are drawn immediately to all the characters (except Filo whose humor has little that is original) and you hate all the villains. This is not going to be the best blu you have in your collection as far as story, but it is well worth the price.
This review is from: Delgo (DVD) I really enjoyed this movie. My grandsons and I sat down to watch it and they liked it also. There is a little movie short that you should watch. i had not even heard of the movie before I found it on Amazon.
I went to see the movie Delgo at the Regal Cinema. Before I left I checked my email and right there on the front page of Yahoo there was a news release that Delgo was the biggest flop ever bringing in only $511,920 this past weekend. They didn't even make the top ten. Since I had already made plans with my friend to go I decided to ignore the critic's response to this movie, and I'm very glad I did. I didn't want to take my eyes off of it for a second. The special effects were magnificent. It was a wonderful thrilling movie for a rainy afternoon. It should have done better financially.I feel like maybe it was because it opened a couple of weeks before Christmas beginning on December 12th, and there were a couple of new Christmas movies playing. And then there were some great children's animated movies playing, "Madagascar 2" and "Bolt". We had already seen those, and they were good but I can honestly say I enjoyed "Delgo" the most. Regretfully the rating I believe is just from bad timing. This movie is rated PG and will be viewed mostly by teens and young adults. It is wonderfully written computer animated movie. The scene is set in a fantasy land and there are a lot of different creatures with different personalities. It is an action packed science fiction/fantasy story based on a forbidden love between two teens of two different backgrounds and worlds. Delgo (voiced by Freddie Prinz Jr.) was a boy who was adventurous, athletic, and reckless who must face a troubled past of conflicts between the Lockni Village and the Nohrin Army. The Lockni are reptilian looking and the Nohrin look like winged ugly fairies. The girl he falls in love with is Princess Kyla (voiced by Jennifer Love Hewitt) who is spunky, charming, and big hearted but she is from the other side; the Nohrin world.Kyla's father; King Zahn (voiced by Lou Gosset Jr.); a nice and cautious leader cast out the evil Sedessa (voiced by Anne Bancroft) and cut off her wings fifteen years ago for killing the Queen. Sedessa who is enchanting and power hungry rebuilds her evil reputation. It's up to Delgo and Kyla to stop the war between two civilizations that are divided by fear that is started again by the forgotten enemy. And would I watch it again? Yes I would and I would buy it on DVD when it becomes available so my grandchildren can watch it. It was great entertainment, and I would recommend everyone to ignore the critics, and decide for your self by going and seeing this very well made adventurous movie.
This is a film for 9-10 year old. It is not exactly a love story, although people of opposite races fall in love and are separated by the feud/war between them. There are no complicated plot twist, nor those adult double entendres parents laugh it and later have to explain to their kids. It is a tolerable watch for adults. The movie is love, fantasy, and adventure. It copies scenes from other successful movies, such as the swinging cage from Time Bandits, and Gandolf's escape from the Tower. Yes, it has all been done before, but if you can do it well, why mess with a successful formula?
Quite a Epic of a movie for a animated one. The graphics are pretty good, the characters are plenty, and its good for the whole family. A familiar story ofGood against evil brings us to this world where they are trying to live in peacebut there's always someone's who wants WAR for their profits. Love the scenes where we see both armies...the computer animation is alwaysimproving. Im sure some will not like it...as in all movies, but for the onesthat like these kind of movies, i dont think you will be let down by this adventure.
Are you noticing a trend here? Great independent animated films are getting released with next to no studio support and then are dumped on DVD with next to no studio support. It's almost as if they were getting buried on purpose. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but wow, it's like there's PIXAR and DREAMWORKS and that's it. Well, if you like talking animals and fart jokes then you'll be happy with these two powerhouse studios releasing at least two of these per year, but I myself like animation that pushes the medium in new directions. That's why I recommend you check out Delgo. Delgo is a simple, yet effective all-ages tale set in an alien world of warring tribes. It seems like with the technology we have that Hollywood would be making the next Star Wars, but there seems to be a vacuum in the Sci-Fi realm. There are plenty of human-based sci-fi fantasy shows on TV (Battlestar Galactica, StarGate, Doctor Who), but where are all rich, fully realized alien-based fantasy worlds? Cameron's making Avatar , but in the mean-time you should check out Delgo (and the recently released BATTLE FOR TERRA). Both are fun, emersive sci-fi/fantasy adventures that explore new strange worlds in detail. I expect with the release of AVATAR and The Princess of Mars, the floodgate will be opened and we will see more films like Delgo. It's a cool fantasy film and deserves your support.
We enjoyed the Movie. My son was entertained. CG could have been crisper but all in all good show. Stunning cast of voices, no lack of stars preforming.
I was impressed, for an independent film it was way better than expected. And the only thing that really mattered was my kids loved it. there was a family that left but it was the dad that didn't want to watch it and convinced his kids that it was bad. I feel sorry for their home life. I let my kids decide for themselves. and they loved it. was glad the other family left, the dad was ruining the movie for everyone he wouldn't shut up. absolute total jerk. Don't listen to idiots like him. I'm a family guy and love my kids. Go see it you will like it if you give it a chance. but you must give it a chance don't keep your expectations to high, or decide it not the kind of movie you thought it was or you'll be the reason you didn't like a great movie.

Some of the other reviews for this movie are completely ridiculous. Oneperson saying how expert he is at movies stating how much better of ajob he could have done. Yeah sure buddy, that's why they hired youright? Another person says how he has done 10 or 15 scripts and how hecould point out all the script errors and how bad the logicalprogression of the story was. Uh huh. I guess 10 or 15 scripts makesyou an expert. These two people both say this is one of the worst things they haveeven seen. I must say, as I have in my other reviews, that if theythink this is anywhere near the worst movies, then they cannot possiblyhave seen very many movies considering they both claim to be experts.Once again I say I have at least 50 movies in my 500 strong collectionthat are WAY WAY WAY worse than this movie.I bought this movie because it was an animation I had never heard ofbefore. When I got home first thing I did was come here and check outthe reviews. Since there were a few OK reviews, and a few scathingreviews, I was sort of expecting it to be a pretty bad movie.First thing I have to say about it is: If this movie was the studio'sfirst attempt at a movie quality animation, then congratulations to thestudio because for a first time animation they did a darn good job.I found the story and the script to be perfectly fine. The logicalprogression was also fine. I understood every plot point, and agreedwith everything that was happening in the story. Perhaps that onereviewer needed a few classes in logic. Perhaps this may be a goodreason why people who work in "the industry" shouldn't be allowed toreview movies. I know I work as a technologist, and whenever I see a TVor computer, I can always point out flaws that other people don't see.The movie is about two different races, one powerful and one benign. The powerful race's land is destroyed (never explained) and so they askpermission to move their people into the other race's land. This isagreed to until the first race starts taking too much land, and a warresults. This war is instigated by the powerful race's king's sisterwithout permission of the king. As a result the king gives her the bootand disowns her. For revenge she kills the queen. At this, the king hasher wings cut off and banishes her.Years later, there is a peace but tension between the two races. Theking's daughter meets a young man from the other race, and they beginto fall for each other. At this point, it's revealed that the king'ssister is still alive and has amassed an army. She and a few traitorson the king's staff plot to overthrow the king, starting by fueling thetension between the two races instigating a war. The kings daughter iskidnapped by his sister, and the 2nd race gets blamed. However theyoung man who was falling in love with her goes off to rescue her andthey both come back to help stop the war, rescue the king and take careof the evil sister and her cohorts. As you can see, there is no problem with the logic here, and while thestory is a little formulaic it's not a ripoff of any other story. As for the animation, it's not up to Pixar or Dreamworks standards, butit's their first attempt so give them a break. One reviewer said he recognized the backgrounds from circa 1980 videogames. This couldn't be further from the truth, especially since I havebeen working with and owning computers since the days of theTimex/Sinclare 1000 and the Commodore PET. I know a video game qualitybackground when I see one, and this wasn't it.The backgrounds were fine, and about on par with any other animation. The characters were not perfectly animated. They reminded me slightlyof the animation work done by Mainframe Entertainment (Reboot, BeastWars). The movie is actually better animation than the older Mainframeproductions. There was an ever so slight amount of the older animation"jitter", and the movement was not perfect. However, this bodes wellfor their next attempt. I would expect it to be even better. The art was really very well done. There are a lot of very oddfantastical creatures. I enjoyed every minute of watching this movie. My own personal scale I rate my movies on in my database is from 1 to5, and I would give this movie a 3. Middle of the road, not bad but notthe best either. Kids will love it. I would put it on par with FernGully or maybe Happily Never After.Buy it for your kids, they'll love it and if you're an animation lover, you will enjoy it too.
I don't know where "tbqfh" (very brave use of your real name there guy) got his information from, but as one of the creators of the original plot I can tell you that the idea for this movie, though hardly unique, was not stolen from anyone. I know a lot (and I mean A LOT) of time, effort, and money went into this production, and while I think the fruits of the labor it bore are rather weak I do applaud the team of artists and production staff who have finally brought their work to the big screen. The amount of time this production took is forgivable considering the small production staff, which was less than a quarter of what goes into a larger studio's work force. Congratulations to everyone involved-glad it's over.
It's sad. There was so much hope in me that the little guy could staredown the Hollywood gods (in this case Pixar and DreamWorks) and comeout a winner. I new going in that this film had problems; noadvertising, no studio release backing, many production trials, arelatively expensive cast of voice actors for a venture of this type.Still I had hope. What I was left with was, oh how glad I am that few will see this filmand remember that it was Anne Bancroft's last work. Orson Wells didn'tfare as well with his, but his last wasn't as bad. This film had abrief glimmer at the beginning then quickly sank into an abyss ofunoriginality, cliché, confusion, too much narration rather thanexposition, and too many irritations. The movie felt like a littlepebble that gets into your shoe and just irritates the crap out of youuntil you take off your shoe and dump it out. I haven't had this bad ofa time at a movie since "Blindness" and in fairness, "Blindness" wasmore of a masochistic experience to watch than this.It all started for me Monday when I was off work, bored and had nothingbetter to do, so I figured I'd give this underdog a shot. The worst Ithought could happen would be that I'd be bored and watching a movieinstead of just bored and staring at the walls at home. That's youroptions when all your friends are at work and you can't bare the drivelof daytime TV.Anyway, I was worse than bored and watching a movie, but I kept inthere, hoping for the little guy to give me something to grab a holdof. Unfortunately it never came. I hoped that this movie could havebeen something triumphant in the face of adversity. Something thatovercame the great odds against it and at least made back the moneyinvested in it. I was looking for some unlikely cinematic surprise like"Facing the Giants" or its kin "Fireproof," but to no avail.Ultimately, I lost an hour and a half and $6.50.
This review is from: Delgo (DVD) I was really disappointed that this movie was not better advertised when it came out at the theaters. I would have loved to have taken my kids and grand kids to see this. This is great fair. It has a very good story. Great animation and imagination. Get this for yourself or for your family. You won't be disappointed.
That movie was terribly annoying. The characters are overexcited, overacted, and ugly. The story I couldn't care at all.
