Im a teenage guy and I found this very enjoyable

Deception was such a great movie with a good story. It was very fun to see what people can really get themselves into. This movie took many twits and turns. every scene that you try to predict it goes a different way. It was very unpredictable wich is a good thing. It kept you guessing the whole movie through. I think that it is worth your money to go see. I liked this movie and I am only a teenage guy. So if I can like this movie im sure that an adult owuld enjoy it just as much asd I did. It was pretty slow moving in the beginning but then really picked up the last half hour. The talk about how dirty this movie being isn't true. It did have some sex but there wasn't much nudity. It isn't a movie I recommend to a younger kid but it wasn't that bad. It was very fun to watch. It isn't really something I would see agin and again but definitely once. It was very unique, smart, and original. The messages were good about learning from your mistakes. Every one in this movie does learn from thier mistakes for the most part. The acting was very good and believable. Overall this was very fun and good movie. Go see it you wont be dissapointed.

(Deception) is a perfect example of an interesting plotline mixed in with some really cheesy and sappy moments.

What can compare with the white-knuckle suspense of uploading a file?

Peter Bradshaw 2013-05-14 19:13:32

It is about as erotic as a midweek National Express coach journey to Hitchin.

Good performances, but predictable plot twists.

Jonathan McQuarry, is an accountant who strikes up a friendship with alawyer called Wyatt Bose. After accidentally swapping phones, McQuarrystarts getting calls from women who are part of a group of people whomeet purely for casual sexual encounters. During one of these, McQuarrymeets a blonde woman whom he becomes close to. When he's attacked andshe disappears, he discovers more going on than he realized....From the above plot description some people can figure out where thestory is heading. I for one did. It's a sad fact that the scriptwritten by Mark Bomback holds no surprises at all. It also doesn't helpthat there are plot holes that aren't explained or dealt with. Thedirection by Marcel Langenegger is okay, but he doesn't add any tensioninto the movie. What does save the movie are the three main performances. MichelleWilliams is suitably enigmatic as the girl involved, Hugh Jackman asWyatt Bose brings charm and charisma to the part, and Ewan McGregor asJonathan McQuarry convinces as the straight, lonely accountant seducedinto the events played out. However the performances alone can't save the movie from being adisappointing, predictable thriller.

[D]espite a fair amount of suspense and good performances from all three leads, this is one of those films where [the central] scheme ... depends on a million little unpredictable details breaking properly.

First time director Marcel Langenegger delivers a slick thriller that looks great, even though its plot points may not always make total sense

Pass the brie...

Since I was charged twice for renting this movie, because of a mistake the cashier made and didn't have the knowledge to fix it. I was forced, in a matter of speaking, to watch the movie, with the hope that I could talk later to a manager at the store who "possessed" the skills to void extra charges.I tried to put my frustration aside and be an open minded viewer. The beginning of the movie was such a cliché for every man's dream coming true (i.e getting lucky and have a friend who would enable him to have one night stands with pretty women, who he never met before). Thrilled by this new life and the anticipation of his next bed partner, he finds that there's only one woman (of the sex list of course) that he's interested in, and he desires to know her well before bedding her. During the ten minutes interaction between the main character and the charming mysterious blonde, I had a drink to allow me to forget the trite predictability of the lame kisses and the fake romanticism. But, no, just minutes before the bodily union between the two souls, a surprise takes place. Mind you, the surprise is no less lame than the fake attraction between these two very different characters. Our previous geek, now is a hero in love, on a mission to save his woman and find the truth. This is the stuff of comic book heroes not a supposedly serious suspense movie.I don't know if I watched the whole movie because I didn't have much to do this Saturday or because I had a drink and didn't care much. The moral of the story is that the movie ends as lamely as it started, but of course true love conquers all.

An auditor who gets into a sex club and then black mailed by his so-called friend.

This is one of the best movie i ever see. No one can judge what wouldbe the end. I just was thinking Ewan would be still alive but that wasalso 50-50. An amazing drama, thriller movie. At the start of themovie, a guess it would be a flop film but as the movie goes ahead, ittake you a series of suspense incidents and after many tackles by thehero and villain, eventually hero wins the game. There is also a goodromance with the Michelle. Both are in love after there encounter inthe subway and in the hotel. It is expected that Michelle is alsoplaying from behind the scene but she is also used by Jackman. A goodlearning movie too that one should act like a gentleman and think aboutpeople who are suddenly trying to close to you.

Solid

You know the drill. Don't trust strangers. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is (too good to be true). There's no such thing as love at first sight. Money rules. Love conquers all.Mix all of these maxims together and you get this film. Add first-rate acting by the entire cast and you get solid entertainment.Ewan McGregor plays Jonathan McQuarry, a painfully shy auditor who works major corporate accounts. Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman) meets the super lonely auditor and quickly becomes his best (only?) friend. Bose gives McQuarry access to a sex club that seems to be, well, too good to be true. Michelle Williams is the enigmatic "S" who captures the shy man's heart. Everything goes just smashingly until the other shoe drops. And, of course, other shoes always drop.I don't want to give anything away. The suspense starts early on and continues until the final frame. Others have attacked this film for being too cliched or formulaic. There's something to this criticism, but I found the acting and direction more than powerful enough to earn five stars.

This is one of those films where as long as you don't know what's going on it's interesting, but once everything is revealed you start noticing all the plot holes.

Wait For This on TV

This movie was made for you to watch on some night when there is nothing worthwhile on tv and you don't want to waste $2.99 on a decent cable movie. It is boring, predictable, poorly acted, and cheesy. The characters are poorly developed and unbelieveable. Everyone knows what is going to happen to the stooge who is being "deceived" except this smart accountant. This movie seemed like it was made over a weekend by some amature film makers who had no writers, weak actors and some film to use. The viewers who paid $10 to waste a few hours were the ones this movie is named after - the "Deceived".

I was More Than Deceived....

Top notch actors and flashy cinematography cannot disguise the fact that the script is as dull and as slow as dishwater trying to go down a clogged drain. Sometimes I wonder if the actors even read the script, or their agents are so greedy they don't care what their client appears in as long as they get their chunk! This plays like a bad playboy channel thriller, and we know how bad they can be. Shame on Hugh Jackman, one of my favorites for producing this garbage.

Deception- Those Who Paid to See This **

An auditor meets a supposed attorney and all hell breaks loose. This movie produces still another bomb for Hugh Jackman, who can't seemto get in right in the motion picture industry. Between this one andAustralia, Hugh has got a lot of soul searching to do.When he introduces McGregor to that sex club where there is supposed tobe no conversation and no names, I thought I was back in the days withMrs. Robinson, when McGregor meets a British-type Anne Bancroft, downto the pose and cigarette smoked. When it comes down to the fact that McGregor will be used by Jackman toextort money, the plot is supposed to come out but by comparison towhat could have been done, the story becomes rather a benign one ofdeceit and total distrust.Of course, Michelle Williams, who McGregor falls for during one of hissex trysts in really working for Jackman. The story also shows that there is one superintendent in a New YorkCity building who regretted that he showed up to fix a leak, what abomb-literally.

Deception did not deceive me

It was a great plot but I wasn't surprised by the "great" twist at theend. It was very predictable. I felt like I've seen this movie in 100different versions. Though, I can't tell if it is very predictable orif I have seen way too many movies. I get the feeling it's the latter.Assuming I have seen too many movies, this movie was great! I liked theactors and I don't think you are supposed to really get what's going onor what the ending is supposed to be. There is a big twist at the endthat left some of my friends shocked. So, see this movie if you want amystery type of thriller…and if you don't watch a lot of movies.Let me know if you thought the ending was obvious.

Claudia Puig 2013-04-18 06:29:07

Despite a cast that includes double-crossers Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams caught in the middle, the film is a yawn.

Anthony S 2013-04-17 18:46:29

Don't waste your money

By far the most pathetic movie ever. The first half hour is just a jumble of confusion, you're dropped into a world where nothing makes any sense and there is no real story flow. All of a sudden the sad excuse for porn pops up. In the end, it's just another ridiculously stupid story. The acting was good, although the script was immensely cheesy. Trust me, see something else.

Targe 2013-04-17 11:46:43

Deception deceives you into thinking it's good

This movie is a classic case of weak story supported by strong actors. The entire plot is given away by the title, and perhaps the movieshould have been more accurately called 'The List', giving it asinister, secret cult like feel along the lines of Eyes Wide Shut. What we get instead is an EXTREMELY predictable storyline with fewsurprises and plodding dialogue. You can never have a truly awful movie with the likes of Ewan McGregorand Hugh Jackman front and centre, but their talents are wasted on atruly bad script.Michelle Williams is serviceable as the extremely predictable 'girl forhire' seductress. You see the ending coming from 50 miles out, as the movie pulls theridiculous device of playing 'this is the end of the movie' music forthe next 20 minutes after you think the main hero is dead.To top it all off, after realizing his personality is essentially dead,by placing his forged passport on the body of the villain, and havingno future to return to in the US, the hero walks away from 20 millionCASH with the pretty call girl in tow, RIDICULOUS.The movie could have been far superior if he had instead transferredanother 50 million to another bank in the same city that night, walkedthere with the girl at the end of the movie after killing the villain, and withdrawn the larger sum under the false identity he was travellingunder! NOW they can walk off into the sunset! Maybe some playfuldialogue, like "How do you feel about a really big boat???" "Response:Looks like my ship has come in!" There! BOOM!!! MUCH BETTER MOVIE!!!

A downhill ride

The movie starts off well really really well. Two great (and goodlooking) actors meeting at work and smoking pot - the implausibility ofthe scene makes you wonder if this film is going to be full of treatslike this. As the plot unfolds you wonder in good but not great scenesyou wonder if this is film is going to a pull a Woody Allen off dealingwith a subsection of NY society. The you hope it least has a decentstatement on sexuality and casual sex or at least "high" society. Bythe time the thriller part starts you hope at least it makes a decentthriller. However it fails at even this and if you are still interestedin the film you finally give all hope of it ever becoming anythingother than a promising but poorly directed forgettable film.

Susan Granger 2013-04-10 16:24:39

So when does enigmatic become incoherent? In the hands of an inept, inxperienced director.
