The trailer was much better

In comedy, they say, timing is everything. This movie works great whenboiled down to a 30-second promo, and I was actually pretty excited tosee it, even though I've never been a big fan of the Wayans' movies(and haven't even seen most of the films that this one spoofs).Unfortunately, they managed to fit most of the big laughs into thatpreview, so those moments didn't strike me as hard, and some of themdragged on too long and simply weren't funny at all (like the "invademy space" scene).I do think the current rating (2.8) is a bit harsh, though. The movieisn't that bad, it just isn't as funny as I'd hoped it would be.

Spoof On

The Wayans family is to comedy what the Jackson family is to music, they are legendary and have truly paved the way for alot of the stuff thats out today. I like the movie because the humor was relatable, at times some of the jokes slipped passed and you had to rewind it because you were so busy laughing at the previous scene. I got this movie expecting some corny lines and characters and within the first 10 minutes I was proven wrong.It has some sappy parts like every movie does, but they love to make fun of life and stereotypes. It was also very fun to try and figure out who was family and who was not ..this film is flooded with wayans blood and its great how the family keeps up laughs. I recommend this flick.

will appeal to fans who love this sort of low brow humour

Not another movie spoof? Movie parodies are something of a hit and missaffair, with most of the recent movie spoofs (Meet The Spartans, DateMovie, Epic Movie, etc) missing the mark. As the creators of theoriginal Scary Movie, Keenen Ivory, Marlon and Shawn Wayans have hitthe mark with more accuracy though, as their parodies have beencharacterised by more wit and an appreciation for the subtlety requiredby the genre. As the title of their latest movie suggests Dance Flickis a send up of the whole dance oriented movie genre, targetingeverything from Fame and Flashdance right up to more recent films likeStep Up, Centre Stage and Stomp The Yard. But the film also includesspoofs of Hairspray and the whole High School Musical franchise. Mostof these dance-themed flicks have followed a fairly predictable formulaand have been fairly cliché-ridden, so the targets are pretty obvious.You can virtually tick off all the parodies as they parade before youreyes. There are quite a few laughs to be found throughout thescattergun approach, but there are also many more moments that fallflat. What passes for a plot centres around the relationship thatdevelops between Thomas (Damon Wayans Jr), a street dancer, and Megan(Shoshana Bush), a classically trained dancer when they meet at atalent school. Thomas is involved in "street battles" and desperatelyneeds to win an up and coming competition to pay back money he owes.Dance Flick has been co-written by siblings Marlon, Keenen Ivory andShawn Wayans, who have been the creative mainstays of their films overthe years. But the film introduces a whole new generation of Wayansinto the film-making fold, both behind the camera and as on-screentalent. Making his directorial debut is their nephew Damien DanteWayans, who has worked on TV series such as My Wife And Kids, and it isobvious that he shares his uncles' comic sensibilities and appreciationof cheap sight gags. Dance Flick will appeal to fans who love this sortof low brow humour.

Very Funny!!!

I thought this movie was extremely hilarious! The Wayans family is back, doing what they do best. I loved all the spoofs, gags, and jokes. Megan White used to be a dancer until she made her mother come to her audition when it was raining. Her mother dies, but she never really got over it. When she moves to the city, she makes friends with Charity, Thomas, a gay boy and a few more. Thomas helps her with dancing, and slowly fall in love with each other. Thomas also owes [...]to Sugar Bear, unless he and his crew can win a dance battle. This movie spoofs Save the Last Dance, Stomp the Yard, Step Up, Hairspray, High School Musical, Ray, and much more. I highly recommend DANCE FLICK!!!

Beyond Ignorance !!!

One of the worst movies I've seen in my life. The opening minutes of the movie starts off with you watching one of the dancers peeing on a rival dancer. Yes, peeing on another dancer. That is supposed to be funny ?!! In a latter scene you watch 2 teenagers having sex in the hallway of a highschool. And as the school's guidance counselor walks by them, the counselor tells the teenage boy that he should NOT wear a condom because condoms make you numb to the sensation. Seriously, unprotected sex in a highschool hallway, that is supposed to be comedy ?!!As to be so UNoriginal, this movie also has the "typical stereotype jokes" about the white girl who is clueless and oblivious to the problems around her in the real world. And the black kids who are typical tugs, taking advantage of other people.I would label the Waynes Brothers as no-talented ignorant idiots, but ignorant seems like "too weak" of a word. I need to come up with a better, more appropriate word to accurately describe their complete stupidity.

Step back

"Dance Flick" is in the category of those known "Something Movie". It'sa spoof movie that ridicules some mainstream movies like "Step Up" and"Hairspray". Also it spoofs Britney Spears and T.I.I may admit that we have some funny jokes and scenes, but it isn'tenough. There are some unfunny jokes as well, and it destroys theenjoyability of this. The cast is very known from the TV series "Mywife and kids" and "Everybody Hates Chris" which is not a bad thing.If you look for some cheap comedy that will make you have a few (butgood) laughs, give it a try. It is nothing compared to "Scary Movie"franchise, but try to do it's work.

It was decent for what it was

Looking at some of these comments, it seems some people were expectingsome brilliant, stinging-satirical movie trying to make importantsocial commentary. Well, it isn't that. It's funny enough at someparts, though it relied too much on gross-out humor. It was alright. Ilaughed a few times.I went into the theater looking for some light entertainment, andthat's what I got. Yes, it's dumb. Yes, it's mindless. It's supposed tobe that way, people. If you're looking for serious entertainment, lookelsewhere.This movie was fine for what it was. Not great, by any stretch of theimagination. It was supposed to be stupid. Put on your big-girl pantiesand get over it.

Nothing Like White Chicks

Pathetic attempt at trying to make a White Chicks type movie. Very disappointing and we felt like we got ripped off. Skip this one and save your money.

SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

As someone who enjoyed and laughed through white chicks and little man,I went in hoping for something funny but i was completely WRONG! 10 minutes into the movie, i was already bored and found it to be a DUMB movie, although most are plotless and for the laughs, this was NOT funny, but simply dumb. I only recall laughin ONCE. I regret spending my money and time on this. DO NOT WATCH IT! NOT WORTH IT AT ALLLLLLL, SERIOUSLY! I honestly fell asleep near the end and woke up to a spoof of twilight?!?! like yeah not a dance movie?!?!

Better than any of the Friedberg-Seltzer movies combined, but Dance Flick could have been better

I decided to see this movie in intrepidation, since I am not a fan ofthis sort of film. There have been some surprisingly good spoofs suchas High Anxiety, but the Friedberg-Seltzer movies are all a waste oftime with terrible acting and lowbrow humour. So I watched Dance Flick,and while it was actually better than I expected, I was expecting it tobe utter crap you see, it wasn't particularly good either.Dance Flick does have its moments though. The choreography does sparklea lot more than it doesn't, and there are one or two appealingperformances, especially Essence Atkins's terrific comic turn andShoshana Bush's cute as a button Megan. Plus Damon Wayans Jnr is prettylikable. The film is quite short and does move briskly, and I enjoyedspotting the references to Fame and High School Musical, some of whichwere done in a smart manner.However, there are some failures. The film does start off on the wrongfoot unfortunately, thank goodness it does pick up. The story is alsorather thin, and the script relies too much on bad taste and grosshumour than genuinely hilarious and sophisticated humour. I amespecially talking about Amy Sedaris as the aptly named dance teacherMrs Cameltoe here. The direction is perhaps a little too smug and theediting is choppy on occasions. Although it does have many problems,Dance Flick is definitely not as bad as Disaster Movie or Epic Movie,and is moderately entertaining thanks to some spirited choreography andperformances but is deeply flawed due to its thin story. 5/10 BethanyCox

Chill out

"Dance Flick" is the latest in a long line of "Airplane"-spawned movieparodies, this one a product of the formidable spoof-industry mavens,the Wayans Brothers. Like most such films, "Dance Flick" is a goofy,genial and instantly forgettable comedy that takes on such recent hitsas "Step Up 2 the Streets" and "Hairspray" as well as more dated workssuch as "Flashdance" and even "Singin' in the Rain." As with all thesescattershot send-ups, the movie defies the rules of logic and physicsas it pokes fun at the accoutrements and style of hip hop music andculture.Damon Wayans, Jr. plays the not-so-streetwise hood who falls forShoshana Bush, a lame-assed white chick from the suburbs who wants tomake it to Julliard but has to overcome the trauma of losing her motherin a car crash on the day of her audition. The amusing Essence Atkinscostars as Shoshana's sassy best friend, Charity, with Shawn Wayansappearing as Charity's baby daddy.It would be easy to feel superior to a film like "Dance Flick" - asmost viewers clearly do - but a good part of it is actually prettyfunny.

Welcome back Wayanes'

I actually signed up for my IMDb subscription just to comment on thismovie. I saw it last night and I LOVED it! Was it a great movie? no, ofcourse not. But it was GREAT FUN! Amy Sedaris (sp?) alone is worth atrip to the theater. This is the kind of movie that cynics will crucifybefore they even see it. I suggest if you are having a long, toughweek... You go out and rent "Save the Last Dance" and "You got Served"then watch this movie right after those.I haven't laughed this much in a long time. And the last few scenes areclassic. If you loved the original Scary Movies and hated all of thespin offs (which the Wayans' didn't make) then this will be a treat foryou.ps. do NOT bring the kids. This is PG 13, but it is almost as racy asthe original scary movie.

The Wayans don't deliver

Dance Flick is a movie that really isn't funny or even remotely thatgreat. It had some funny moments but not enough to actually be calledfunny. The acting was bad all in the film, mostly by the lead characterMegan, and Thomas. His facial expressions were weird and he was overthe top too much. But its a Wayans film, acting isn't always that greatin their films. The plot is spoofed from Step Up 2: The Streets. Abouta girl Megan who wants to live her dream to become a dancer so shemoves to another school. This happens when her mother passes away. Manyspoofs in this film were unnecessary and just plain unfunny like thespoof of Ray Charles from "Ray", "Fame", and others. Spoofing RayCharles was a surprise because "Ray" isn't a dance movie, and thismovie is called Dance Flick. They also spoofed "Twilight" at the veryending. I didn't laugh at anything except a few chuckles. And likeothers have said, many of the funny scenes were in the trailers. Onefunny scene was towards the end with the final "you got served" dancescene with the fat guy dancing. Also credit to Shawn Wayans characterand Affion Crockett (A-con), he was pretty funny. Though overall thismovie was just not funny (except a few moments)

this film was all over the place. For it to be called dance flick there surely wasn't much of that going on. The writers picked a good movie to base the main characters on but scenes from other movies that were used leave you confused. There are some good parts but overall this film is a boring disaster. HATED IT!!!!!!!!!

A spoof movie brought to you by the Wayans brothers (who, at the lastcount managed to supply approximately half of the entire Earth'spopulation) is a movie to be wary of. They might be a little betterthan Jason Friedberg/Aaron Seltzer at times but usually not by much.I am not going to bother recounting the plot here (it's basically SaveThe Last Dance with a bunch of references to similar movies thrown in)so will just get through some brief thoughts on the film.Shoshana Bush was a cute, likable leading actress and Damon Wayans Jr.was actually pretty funny too. In fact, I can admit that most of theactors did okay with the material they were given.Just look at the list of movies referenced here and consider one thing- how dated all of this already feels. It's like watching your unclebreakdance at your eighteenth birthday party, just sad sad sad.Despite how dated or obvious many of the gags were I did actually laughon a few occasions. Yes, most of the comedy was juvenile or just dumbbut dumb can still be funny at times and some of the dance-off moments,in particular, were worth a giggle.Finally, if nothing else, it was worth seeing for one amusing poke atTwilight.Fans of the Wayans brothers movies will probably already have rushedout to lap this up and a lot of other people will have steered wellclear. Which is kind of how it should be. However, if you find yourselfstuck with the prospect of watching it then it's, as Douglas Adams oncecalled our entire planet, mostly harmless.See this if you like: Save The Last Dance, Scary Movie, SuperheroMovie.

Way Funny

This movie was great, it made fun of all the best dance movies that i love including 1 in particular that i didn't really think of as a "dance flick"... TWILIGHT when he tells her she needs to see him in the light and then turns around OMG i almost fell off the couch to funny.. and I'm an avid twifan so ya. The wayans brothers are fantastic in every movie they make or act in together.. One more favorite seen. When Shawn Wayans comes to see his babies mamma, she asks what he wants he says he is here to pick up his son so he goes over picks him up for a second tells him "daddy loves you" sits him back down and tells Essence Atkins (charity) that he will be back next weekend to pick him up again then leaves. Charity shuts the door and says "he's such a good father"... LOL what a great movie LOVE IT

I can't believe this film actually disses "Employee of the Month"(2006)

I can't believe the creators of this movie think they have the right toactually diss "Employee of the Month"(2006) which I admit was not agood film, but I was just astounded. Now I will admit the movie didgive me a few chuckles, but that is cause of how stupid the parodies inthis is, but few of the parodies was a bit entertaining since I gotmost of it. I sometimes enjoy stupid comedies but the stupidity of thismovie was just too much to the point it just gave me a bit of a headache. The story is retarded and very simple, a girl named Megan whodoes ballet meets up with some wannabe break dancer Thomas(DamonWayans, Jr). And they get some wacky romance going, with a bunch ofstupid crude jokes thrown in to lengthen the run time which wouldactually have been a very short movie without it. The thing about thejokes in this movie despite it being not funny, is just way too drawnout. It just seems they went to great efforts to throw in unfunnyjokes. If your someone who seen a lot of movies and get the parodieswill find some of it to be very slightly amusing. But if you don't getwhat they are doing parodies of, you just won't get the dumb joke,because it's a inside joke for the people that has seen the movie theyare trying to do parodies of and it's even a lousy attempt at that. Andthere is a heck load of parodies thrown in from a heck load of movies.It's just obvious the Wayans brothers was just trying to cash in,because they basically used the best bits for the trailer which wasn'teven funny, so if you seen the trailer there really isn't a point toseeing this movie. This movie just makes black people look bad, in myopinion. The jokes are just vulgar and messed up while trying to go inthe shock humor direction while trying to entertain the audience withthe suffering of some of the characters in the movie. Which is fine ifit was funny but that is not the case and it just feels like it's youthat is being tormented. I must say they must have either payed thelead actress a lot of money for this role or she was just desperate forfame. The film is racist and sexist, and like I said is fine by me ifit is funny, but it just isn't. This is one of those comedies whereeveryone is obnoxious and semi-retarded and I seen this types ofcomedies do quite well if they go in the right direction. But "DanceFlick" is just a jumbled mess and when the film is finished you startto wonder what just happened, because of the stupidity. And I ain't oneof those critics that think they are more intelligent and superior toeveryone else and go around bashing on dumb comedies that are actuallyquite entertaining for not being smart. But this film deserves to bebashed on. But like I said, if you get the parodies of other filmswhich is strung up very randomly for laughs you might find it slightlyamusing and will survive through it.3/10
