Perfect fusion of comedy and mystery

Even though the hilarious comedy in "Clue" never stops, it still is able tostay a good mystery too. From the moment Mr. Boddy (Lee Ving) is killed theaudience is kept guessing who it was (just like playing the game). I don'tknow who could have guessed the ending, ,because I thought it was completelyunpredictable (all three of them). And, of course, there are great comedic performances from Tim Curry,Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, the late Madeline Kahn and others. Curryplays the nervous butler Wadsworth with a fine, hilarious touch. Lloydplays the perverted Plum so well that you actually like him. Kahn's Whiteis clever and witty, McKean's Green is nerdy and fun to laughat."Clue" defines a good dark comedy, 8.5/10.

Great Movie! Everyone should see!

I was on vacation in California and I had never seen the movie before. Well the Nuart center they were performing the movie live. I must say it was wonderful! Colleen Camp was there. It was so amazing I can't even explain it! If you haven't seen the movie you HAVE to see it!

The most rewatchable movie ever

The movie "Clue" is based on the popular board game about six people who getinvited to the Boddy mansion. The movie starts off simple enough: The sixsuspects arrive, the butler introduces himself, they all sit down to dinner, and you're given the impression that this is going to be a serious AgathaChristie-type murder mystery. There's suspenseful background music, tensionis built up, and you can't wait to see when the murder's going to takeplace. Then Mr. Boddy shows up. After explaining to everyone why he invitedthem all there, the official "great turning point" occurs. After the firstmurder, Clue little by little transforms itself from what appears to be theusual stock murder mystery into one of the wittiest, funniest dark comediesever to be made in the history of cinema. The all-star cast is a spectacle in and of itself, the one-liners are someof the most memorable you'll ever hear in any movie, Tim Curry steals theshow as Wadsworth the butler who "buttles", everything moves at a steadypace, and there's a fairly large body count. There are so many littletwists, turns, gags, ambiguous jokes, and unexpected surprises in this film, that you will find yourself watching it over and over again just to see whatyou missed. And not just that..you'll be rewatching it because, well, it'sjust a darn good movie. I have probably literally seen Clue about 40-50 times so far and I never gettired of it. I don't just like watching it - I like introducing people to ittoo. Each time I watch it with someone who hasn't seen it, watching theireyes light up at this spectacular achievment of a movie is like watching itagain for the first time. But be warned: If you're looking for "Gone WithThe Wind" or "Citizen Kane" (good movies in their own right), don't buy orrent this movie. If you're looking for a silly, hilarious, dark, andoriginal popcorn and soda murder mystery comedy - The kind of movie whereyou can just kick back, turn your brain off and enjoy the sheerridiculousness of it all, Clue is the movie for you. With Wadsworth, mysterious falling candlesticks, attacking corpses, a psychotic re-enactmentof the whole evening with everybody running around the mansion likelunatics, the infamous singing telegram scene, and a spectacularthree-ending finale, how can you NOT like this movie? 10/10

I DIDN'T DO IT!!!

But Clue does!!! This is a movie based on that popular child's game of the early 1960's. I guess I am dating myself to say we adored this as wee tikes and spent many a winter night or hot summer day inside playing it. So this being 'icon' of my childhood, I was leary when I heard they were making a movie of it, in spite of the powerhouse cast. Movies of this sort can be very very funny or miss altogether...fortunately, this one hits dead on bullseye! The cast is a who's who of talent, head by the incomparable Tim Curry. (The only people I think that could have handle the role with the same droll talent is Ian McShane or David Bowie!!). The jokes are painfully tongue through cheek, delivered at rapid fire pace, by a cast that knows how to do farce. Discovering who killed everyone is more confusing that solving who was responsible for all the murders in Bogart & Bacall's BIG SLEEP!!So do not miss Tim Curry doing his Butler-did-it thingie, the brilliant Madeline Kahn, the eternally beautiful & gravity-defying Leslie Ann Warren, Christopher Lloyd and Michael McKean in one hilarious romp. A definite repeat viewer with the laughs never failing to miss.Frankly, I would LOVE to have the outtakes for this film...

LOVE IT!

Clue is probably one of my very favorite movies of all time. Its some of the best timing and comic acting I have ever seen. The casting of this film is pure brilliance! Whenever I just want to pop a movie in to watch, 9 times out of 10 its going to be Clue, I never get tierd of it. Give it a try, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Clue

Based on the popular murder/mystery themed deduction board game, whichwe the British know as Cluedo, and made with the help of writer JohnLandis (An American Werewolf in London) and director Jonathan Lynn (TheWhole Nine Yards), this film saved me playing it. Basically, set in1954, six guests have been invited by an anonymous person to thesecluded New England mansion Hill House for a party with noexplanation, and possibly some connection to each other. Serving in thehouse is butler Wadsworth (Tim Curry), who also knows nothing, and theguests include scandalous Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn), psychiatristProfessor Plum (Christopher Lloyd), Senator's wife Mrs. Peacock (EileenBrennan), illegal brothel owner Miss Scarlet (Lesley Ann Warren),Pentagon worker Colonel Mustard (Martin Mull), and ex-State Departmentworker and homosexual Mr. Green (Michael McKean). After dinner, that iswhen Mr. Boddy (Lee Ving) reveals himself to be the one who invitedthem all, and he also tells them that he has been blackmailing all ofthem because they all have secrets they don't want spreading. He offersthem all the chance to silence by giving them a variety of weapons tokill him with, these being a candlestick, a rope, a lead pipe, a wrench(or spanner), a dagger and a revolver (pistol/gun). When the lightssuddenly go off we hear a shot and some clanging, and Mr. Boddy islying supposedly dead on the floor, and there is no way of tellingwhich of the guests did it, all are denying it. To determine the guiltyperson they explore the house to find clues or maybe find someonehiding, and along the way, Mrs. Ho the Cook (Kellye Nakahara), maidYvette (Colleen Camp), a stranded Motorist (Jeffrey Kramer), a Cop(Bill Henderson) and a Singing Telegram Girl (Jane Wiedlin) are victimstoo. Finding hidden passage ways going to the lounge, the library, thekitchen, the dining room and hall, Wadsworth thinks he has cracked theidentity of the murderer, and frantically runs all the facts frombeginning to end. This is the point when three different endings areplayed, the third apparently being the real one, but in certain placesthere would only be one of these endings played. Ending one sees MissScarlet as the culprit and Wadsworth working for the FBI,and ending twosees Mrs. Peacock as the culprit and Wadsworth again with the FBI. Thethird ending sees everyone committed one murder, Professor Plum killedMr. Boddy, Mrs. Peacock killed the cook, Colonel Mustard killed themotorist, Miss Scarlet killed the cop, Mrs. White killed Yvette, andWadsworth shot the singing telegram girl, Mr. Green is FBI agent andshoots Wadsworth. The script is most of the time is too overcomplicatedto keep track of, it is after all using all the clichés from AgathaChristie mysteries, and is isn't all that funny as a period comedy, overall, a pretty terrible crime spoof. Cluedo the board game wasnumber 15 on 100 Greatest Toys. Adequate!

Communism is just a red herring!

I like clue so much, I wrote a poem about it: I like Clue- So should you- Tim Curry is great- I just can't wait- To see it again and again! Okay, I know that ain't no Bob Dylan, but my point is that Clue is hecka hysterical. All characters, even the dead ones were great. Tim Curry, as usual, is the best!

2012-04-29 11:45:18

"Frankly Scarlett, I don't give a damn."

I have to say that clue is my favorite movie. Not only does Tim Curry, once again, play a great bad guy but the rest of the cast is excelent. I love the fact that the movie had three endings and that when it was in theaters they were all shown at different theaters. Clue is by far the best movie i have ever seen! END

UNO WHO

I totally agree with all of the above reviews-- this movie is a comic gem. Like many other viewers, I first saw Clue when I was 6 and fell in love with it right away. I personally love the part where Professor Plum is telling the others who he works for (U.N.O. and the World Health Organization-get it? You know who? Ha,ha!) N-E-ways, go buy this movie, you'll treasure it!

Well this movie is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It hassome well good actors and a good script. The movie isn't stupid as somecomedy movies may be it is very funny and keeps you laughing. In thismovie there is not one serious part in it. Some of the actors like TimCurry make the movie what it is. The movie has well pick actors andscript. This movie is one of a kind. If you love funny movies and wantto see a good one then you must go and see clue. You will enjoy it andbe laughing on the floor.A funny movie that will keep you laughingI give it 9/10

Clue is one of the funniest and crafty movies ever made.

The movie Clue has helped me through my screenwriting processes with its witty lines and its skilful directing. I recently rewatched the movie before I write this, and I am still loving every minute of it. Every character puts a different spin on the plot, and after you watch this movie, the game will never be the same again. "The point is, everyone got a letter. And you had a letter, and you had a letter, and you had a letter, ..."

soranno 2012-04-24 14:16:10

Well, at least it's original

Here's something that Hollywood had never tried before. A film that'sbasedon a popular board game. There are some amusing moments here but the filmdrags much of the time and it is usually slow moving. Let's just hope thatthey never make a film out of something like "Candy Land."

lauren-18 2012-04-23 10:56:08

funny

i've been watching this movie since i was five years old and i still laughevery time i see it. not only is it funny....it's also mysterious just likethe board game.

One of my favorities

I can recite this movie word for word. When I was younger, I loved the mystery aspect and board game connections of this movie. As I have grown into an adult, I appreciate the witty dialogue and comedic performances in this movie (notice that the Wadsworth's music never plays for Mr. Green at the end of the movie?) A great movie and buy.

THE GAME'S AFOOT

Based on the popular board game, CLUE has all the ingredients to be a really fun movie..so what happened? It seems that the writers and director got caught trying to come up with an ending that would tie all the loose threads together---when they couldn't, they simply made a movie with three different endings, all of which you get on the DVD. While the movie has some wonderfully entertaining moments, there are times when the jokes fall flat and the actors seem adrift at sea. And what talented actors we have: Tim Curry is fine for most of the film as the butler Wadsworth, but his recreation of the murders running from room to room gets tired very quickly; Madeline Kahn is Miss White; Eileen Brennan the googleyed Mrs. Peacock; Martin Mull doesn't bring much life to Colonel Mustard; Lesley Ann Warren makes a fetching Miss Scarlet; Michael McKean is an apt Mr. Green; and Christopher Lloyd a suitable Professor Plum. The movie is faithful to the game in its use of weaponry and the rooms, but while a board game is fun for those participating, watching it isn't quite as fun and that's probably what happened with the movie. Definitely not a "turkey" but it should have been so much better!

i'm not shouting! all right, i'm shouting.i'm shouting i'm

shouting that this movie is comic perfection. it's hard for me to top the ecstatic reviews that preceed mine. what i can say is that this movie has been my giddy treat, my zany, campy, delicious favorite. i'm a fan of all cinema, but when i'm feeling like a witty, sublimly amusing farce, i watch this. i am obsessed, and you should be too. it's just that funny!

Ggould1975 2012-04-16 11:16:20

One of the greatest comedies of all time!!!

The board game comes to life and it has a great cast Tim Curry(The Butler)Madeline Kahn(Mrs. White come off best in this great film! The flames flames flames part of Mrs. White well she messed up on that partand they thought it was so funny that they kept it in themovie.Hilarious when Tim curry the butler was starting to cry over his ex wife andMrs. White takes a hankerchief outta her dress. The rest of the cast were just as great....great line from Plum toPeacock..What are you afraid of fate worth than death...then Peacock says Nojust death isn't that enough....I loved the part where Tim Curry(The Butler) is explaining to the guestsabout what had happened...and you ahd a letter and you ahd aletter.....Colleen Camp who played Evette gave a good performance with thataccent she had. I give this movie 4 stars ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the best comediesof all time!!!!!!!!!!!!

2012-04-15 13:30:37

love it!

Have wanted this on DVD for years....the comedy, the acting and the 3 possible endings make this great value for anyone that loves the board game and loves Tim Curry (who makes this movie)There are twists and turns and you never know what will happen next. The references to past US people (J Edgar Hoover) who are supposebly still alive during this time, make it even funnier.

Was it the butler, the colonel, the professor?

Clue gets the big 9 for being a perfect example of taking an originalstory, or in this case a board game, and bringing it to life with agreat cast, good script, and only a few tiny tweaks to the originalgame.Six strangers are invited to the mansion of a Mr. Bodys for a smallbanquet. There the six people are greeted by the butler Wadsworth andthey have dinner without Mr. Body who is told to also be a guest.Everything turns upside down as Mr. Body arrives at the mansion for thesix guest to find out he is blackmailing them all with their mostprivate secrets that could destroy their entire lives, even thebutlers, unless they can kill the butler! He each gives them variousweapons: lead pipe, revolver, rope noose, etc. and he turns out thelight. Next thing you know, the lights are on with Mr. Body on theground and the Butler standing. With the police on their way, the wholehousehold must find out who is the murderer. My first impression of this film, hilarious! I give my props to TimCurry who does an outstanding job as the butler. The cast is splendidfrom Martin Mull to Christopher Lloyd. The story is just the same witha few tiny tweaks like there's a butler, a maid, and a cook in thehouse, Miss. White is now a guest instead of the maid herself, and soon. You'll catch there are a lot of mistakes during the film like Mr.Body turns a rooms lights out and it's pitch black even though therewas a fire burning, but you forget all about the goofs when one by one, bodies of strangers are all disappearing and reappearing dead, havingto be stored in the study. You might wet your pants from the hilariousone liners said by all the characters. Examples: Green slaps Peacockand guest look at his like he's crazy. Green- " I had to stop her fromscreaming." Mustard- " This is war Peacock! Like the cook says, we muststick together to fight!" Peacock- " But look what happened to thecook!" White- " So what if my husband vanished? Ounce he threatened tothe public to kill me!" Scarlet- " Why did he say he wanted to let thepublic kill you?" Butler- " No I think she means he threatened inpublic to kill her." Examples over. This film is perfect to sit back ona rainy day and eat popcorn with your family as you watch the hilarioustale of seven strangers locked up in a mansion with one of them as akiller. Highly recommended!

Stupid and boring

I don't know how anyone could find this the slightest bit entertaining. Itis so boring and horrible that I just can't stand it when it's on. I likeTim Curry movies, except for this one. Play the game instead of watchingthis.
