jackie vs gary

this flick is kinda cool... although i prefer the fighting sequences. i think that they tried to do this flic an family action flick. but anyways, what impresses me the most in this film is that use see how good people from the west is comparing to people from the east. take th fight scene jackie chan v gary daniels. u see that this is withoutv a doubt gary daniels best performance... jackie is funny as usual... if like jackie chan, or gary daniels thisis a must see movie

Not your typical Jackie Chan movie

First off if your expecting a typical Jackie chan movie like Rush Hour then your in for a big surprize. It's a great movie but you have to understand a few things before watching it. One thing is that this movie is a live action film based on an anime. Second you have to understand traditional anime, I don't mean like cowboy bebop or sailor moon. I mean the kind that we can only get with english subtitles. If you like cute anime then you'll like this movie. My favorite part it when jackie gets thrown into a video game machine an becomes street fighter characters. It has alot of action and the female cast gets beat up alot, but they try hard. I enjoyed it because I'm a kid at heart. I hope you enjoy it too.

FUNNIEST OF JACKIE

This is a live action anime. Very very funny. Live action anime means that they are going to be very over the top and very fun. There are a few scenes that I know will make anyone from 20 to 35 laugh histerically. The bad guys are great. Skilled and very good at physical comedy. Great timing. I would love to see more like this since Jackie loves comedy. This might not be his best movie... but I would definatly call it his most hilarious. That is saying something.

pitiful

I've been reading the reviews... and noticing how everyone who gave it 'top marks' saying it was 'hylarious', 'the bets movie ever', and so on and so forth, have never seen the original anime, or even better, read the manga. If they had I'm sure none of those people would give it more than it's due - 1 star (for J.C. fans, maybe 2).This movie is a poor excuse for an adaptation. And a disgrace for the original City Hunter. Jackie Chan as Saeba Ryo?! Puh-lease!The attempts at manga/anime humor fall on barren ground and turn the movie into an even more of a farce as it already is.I wouldn't recomend this movie not even to my worst enemy and I agree with the reviewer who said 'when you die and go to Hell, Satan makes you watch this movie'. I can't imagine a torture greater than that. I'd take boiling oil any time!

Fun film based more on humor than action

This film is a very funny film that is based on the original Anime/Manga of the same name. Many viewers might be disappointed with it because the movie does not rely on action but instead on classic anime gags. If you are a Jackie Chan fan then understand that it does not fit into his other type of films like Rumble in the Bronx or his Police Story saga. As a live action version of an anime it does a very good job and can be quite funny. It was definately worth my money and so far the people that i know who have seen it have loved it. I would recommend it to anyone but would have people know that it is not based on major stunts or lots of fighting.

Like a live action cartoon!

"City Hunter" was adapted from a Japanese comic book and animated series of the same name... and it shows! The actors do the kind of double-takes, gestures, and poses that one expects to see in a "manga" or "anime." This adds greatly to the hilarity of the film. The story revolves around Ryu Saeba (Jackie Chan) who is hired to track down a run-away heiress. He ends up on a luxery liner, trapped between his jealous secretary, the attractive heiress, a sexy gun-toting female agent, and a group of terrorists bent on capturing the ship and holding the passengers for ransom. And all Ryu wants is a bite to eat... he made the mistake of skipping breakfast! If you typically pick up Jackie Chan movies for the amazing stunts, this might not be the film for you; there really isn't much of that kind of action here, until the climactic scenes. However, if have an appreciation for slap-stick and screwball comedies, I recommend this flick highly!

Completely retarded

I bought a 3 DVD box named "Manga in motion" which contained the movies"Story Of Ricky", "Dragon From Russia" and "City Hunter". I watched thetwo other movies and thought that they were OK, so I didn't expect verymuch from this movie, I thought it may as well be "OK". The moviestarts with a very stupid scene and goes worse and much, much moreworse all the time. The humor is very stupid (even for a hong kongmovie), and so is the over-acting. I just had to fight to watch thefirst 30 minutes of the movie. Then, in the end comes the Streetfighter scene. I can honestly say that I have never seen anything asstupid and retarded as that scene. That scene almost made me stopwatching the movie, but I fought until the end. The movie is without adoubt Jackie Chan's worst movie, and don't get me wrong, I'm a big fanof Chan. But this kind of a movie is something that I think theyshouldn't have done. 2/10 *** WORST JACKIE CHAN MOVIE EVER ***

don't believe the people telling you to just try this out and you'll see, yeah fu^%&%^ right you f^%$^&$& pieces of ^$%&$

So , I had heard from a lot of people that this is a very fun movie. Other than seeing some of the hottest chinese chicks I have ever seen, nothing too special about this flick. I guess it's based off a comic book, so at least it makes sense of why this is so stupid. The parts that threy call jokes in this movie include things like women falling over because their boobs are just too big. Come on Jackie, do an r movie, get out of the way, and showcase these women that you work with. The action is pretty substandard all-around. The end fight just looks like they are hitting weaopns as hard as they can against eachother, this waas ok back in the 60's, but I expect a little more out of jackie. I think that there was around 3-4 min of action that I enjoyed in this. To be honest, the best part of this movie is when the 2 gay guys start singing on stage with a woman or two. That song was freaking hilarious, AND WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN BETTER IF IT WAS EFFING TRANSLATED. I HAVE VHS TAPES FROM LIKE 82 THAT HAVE SUBS ON THE SONGS.Also the streetfighter scene, don't believe the hype, it sucks. It is one of the few funny parts in the entire movie, but is only good when Chun Li shows up.EXTRAS-interview with jakie and the idiot of this project, jing wong. Jackie has a very lively interview talking about how america didn't like him because he didn't get to do what he wants to do. Action 1st, storyline 2nd, acting # 27, sound effects #5, special effects #24. This is the first interview with Jackie that I can remember him getting really mad. I thought he was gonna start cussing out evry american, but by the end he is talking about rush hour and seems pretty happy.

this is a must see for the anime fans

This is a completely different kind of jackie chan movie. I did not see the anime of city hunter but from what i saw in the movie i bet they tried hard to keep to the series with the kind of antics the people in the movie do. I am writing this review without finishing watching the movie, but so far the movie is excellent. The voice is not Jackie Chan's though. Its some one else just like what they did with Gorgeous.ONE THING I MUST WARN YOU ALL THOUGH IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THE COVER SAYS WIDESCREEN THE MOVIE IS FULL SCREEN. I bought this movie in best buy for 9.99 and was hoping for the widescreen like it says on the box. this is not a two sided dvd where one side is wide and the other normal. The DVD itself does not say if it is widescreen or full screen. it just say the movie name on it.I hope this is a screw up on the part of 20th Century Fox where some dum guy mixed a full screen DVD in the widescreen box, but if it isn't then they SUCK real bad. STOP FALSE ADVERTISING to make movie off of Jackie Chan's name. But i didn't find a full screen dvd for sale even online. This is the only reason i give the DVD a 3 out of 5.

The Absolute Worst Jackie Chan Film - Stay Away!

I have seen all the JC films and was building a DVD collection when I came across this one. My wife and I played it once and I immediately tried to return it to the guy who sold it to me and finally ended up unloading it on e-bay. An example at how offensive and unfunny this one is: tough guys boarding boat see 2 guys dressed flamboyantly, obviously together - tough guys say "I hope they all die of AIDS." Also plenty of scenes with one actress who is so top heavy (it took me a while to figure this one out being that she wasn't by U.S. standards) that she keeps on falling over. Please I'm a big fan of JC but this film deserves to be burned. His best HK films are Drunken Master 2 (beautiful film, not available yet on DVD), Police Story (best action/stunts), Dragons Forever (ensemble action/humor with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao), Wheels on Meals (more fun with Sammo and Yuen), and Young Master (best fight scene). By the way, the Amazon.com review form requires that you give a film at least one star (not my idea).

Now available on DVD WITH SUBTITLES

Stick this on top of the other excellent review on the movie'spage!Having survived for years on a VCD copy of City Hunter (It wasn't ONLYavailable on Laserdisc, BTW) with no subtitles, I was certainly overjoyedtofind that it is now available on DVD (Media Asia Distribution/Mega StarVideo Distribution) in all region format with 8 subtitle languages, including English (2 Chinese, Japanese, Bahasa Malaysia, Thai, Vietnamese, and Spanish).

Almost Perfect DVD

When I first saw this movie on VHS years ago it instantly became one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies. Most of Jackie's movies are serious, action oriented, and comedy is a side prduct of the excellent action and stunt sequences. City Hunter is one of his few movies where he purposely takes over the top comedy to the extreme. One thing that bothered me about the DVD version, and prevented me from giving the movie 5 stars, was the intro song and "Gala Gala Happy" were not translated and subtitled. When you know the lyrics the songs are hilarious so i was very dissapointed when there was no translation in english for the songs. Overall this is a movie I will watch over and over and force anyone who visits to watch it.

STREET FIGHTER MEETS PRINCESS BRIDE!!!! this movie is utterly amazing...Jackie Chan as Chun Li is a must...I recommend this for everyone!!!!

If you like live action anime...

I have to say that this is perhaps one of the best movies I've ever seen, and by far the best Jackie Chan one. Now, this movie isn't for everyone, but I think most people will enjoy it. Yes, it's extremely cheesy, but that adds to the greatness of it all.I first saw this as a low qulity fansub, so finding the DVD was very nice. I've never seen the City Hunter anime (or read the manga), but this movie certianly makes me want to! If you get a laugh out of seeing anime-style humor (falling down, giant mallets, etc.) done in REAL LIFE, then you'll love this! The Street Fighter scene is definately the best (and I'll leave it at that so it's not runined for people who have never seen it). Another great scene is the performance of "Gala Gala Happy", which is a cool song IMO.If you're an anime fan who likes Jackie Chan, then buy this NOW! If you're not an anime fan, but like Jackie Chan, then you will probably enjoy this. And if you're [insert what you are here], you may or may not like it, but I suggest buying it anyway, because there's a better chance that you will like it than not.

2 1/2 For Jackie Fans who want sumthin a bit different.

My reason for this rating is because a casual moviegoer would not enjoy this film. Nor would any Kung Fu movie fans. There are a few scenes which are very memorable, ie- Bruce Lee Move theatre, Streetfighter, and a pretty cool end fight scene. This is one silly film, maybe even a bit stupid and weird at times. My two friends hated this movie alot, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Jackie Chan has done better, no doubt, and this is not for first timers. Its an attempt at creating the world of Anime in a non-animation setting. I appreciate what its trying to do, and it had alot of funny gags that you would find normally in an anime. (FOr example guy characters always are hungry and girl chasing)The fight scenes are goofy, but as always jackie makes them interesting, especially the end fight. This is not for everyone, but its cool to see an Anime come to life like this. HardCore Jackie Chan fans need only apply.

A live-action anime

This movie is based on an anime series by the same title. And as such isquite different from typical Jackie Chan fare. For one there are all thesecartoon gimmicks like weird flashbacks, giant mallets, and other things Ican't quite describe but which give the movie a weird cartoon feeling.Somegreat fight scenes as always, and some beautiful women! (I especiallylikedthe voluptuous comic relief girl). Go rent it!

Hella funny movie!!!

This has got to be Chan's funniest movie I've ever seen. Everything fromthebeginning of the movie to the ending battle between Richard Norton and himis pretty funny. It also shows a part where Chan becomes Chun-Li from theStreet Fighter game. I recommend this if you're a Jacky Chan fan or if youjust want to have a few laughs! The song and dance part was prettystupid!

Not Jackie's best but his most sheerly FUN movie!

Loosely based on a Manga,City Hunter is by no means Jackie's best on anartistic level. However,it might very well be his most sheerlyentertaining.Although the plot is similar to Under Siege, the similarities end there.City Hunter is played almost entirely for laughs and manages to beconsistently funny throughout while having more inventive ideas in 20minutes than all three Austin Powers movies put together. Director WongJing {the same Wong Jing who made Naked Killer and God OfGamblers!}absolutely crams the film with sight gags and slapstick, allfilmed in a bright cartoon-like manner. One sequence involving Jackiebeing chased around a ship while hunting for food is an absolutemasterpiece of silent-movie style comedy. Many of the best gags arevery quick, such as Jackie crawling out of a bag hardly bigger than hishead. Some are extremely sexist though, such as the woman holding a gunand falling forward because of the combined weight of the gun and herlarge breasts {this happens more than once}.Despite all this City Hunter still manages to be crammed with actionscenes, except of course in this film rather than simply staging a fightin a cinema we have Jackie taking guidance from an on-screen Bruce Lee!A Streetfighter sequence where the characters morph in to various gamecombatants has to be seen to be believed and the end showdown betweenJackie and Richard Norton, although not one of his best in terms ofmartial arts technique,is easily his funniest.Add some great characters,a terrific score, and for the maleviewers, some gorgeous Hong Kong 'babes',and you have 90 minutes ofsheer,non-stop FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
