Movie Photos:
We have taken some photos of "Cheaper by the Dozen". They represent actual movie quality.
In my opinion "Cheaper by the dozen" is a very good movie. Not verycreative...but still good!!!This film is perfect to watch with yourfriends or family when you just want to relax and don't want to reflectat all...you just have to laugh and have fun. It's a movie to the wholefamily...without restrictions. But...if you only like movies that makeyou think or dramatics stories with a very involving plot, "Cheaper bythe dozen" is not for you. The cast is wonderful too!!! Steve Martin isfantastic(he is always fantastic). Bonnie Hunt is very good too!! Andthe "teens" actors, like Hilary Duff, Tom Welling and Ashtons Kutcherare so good...This film is really very good and funny...If you likethis kind of movie you have to watch!!!
It seemed that from the beginning this was a very labored project. Steve Martin tries his best to keep it moving along, but this is a slow moving, plodding story about 12 kids who hate their new neighborhood and want to go home. Tom (Steve Martin) gets his dream job as a big college football coach, but when his wife leaves for a book promotion tour, Steve has his hands full juggling teenage issues, child issues, and pressures at work. It's obvious that he has to choose one or the other, and right when the whole family explodes, ruining a chance for an Oprah Winfrey interview in their house, the final straw has fallen and they go home. This is not a movie I'd care to see again, frankly it gave me a headache. As a father, I understand all too well the pressures of career and family. To watch it on the screen is not my idea of escaping reality and being entertained.
I saw this movie twice at the movies and both times it washilarious. As a non-fan of Ashton's I found it very funny that he gothis butt bitten by the dog. (I wish that would happen in real life.)Anyway, I plan on buying the movie when it comes out on DVD.That's how good I thought it was.
I don't know why so many people disliked this movie so strongly! Am I theonly one who really enjoyed it? When I first saw commercials for this movie, I thought it was gonna be moreof a kid's movie, but still looked kinda good. Plus, Tom Welling is in it,so that got my attention right away, and I knew I had to seeit. So I just saw it with my friends, and we all loved it!! We laughed out loudnumerous times!! All of the kids in the film were great!! And Tom Wellingwas amazing, as I had expected lol. Although, he is too old to be playing an18-year-old (he's really 26). But all in all, Cheaper By The Dozen is a great family film!! GO SEE IT!!!You won't regret it!!
"Cheaper by the Dozen" is a great movie and is a good laugh for everyone who sees it. I think that any family that has troublegetting along who see this movie will definetley realize that thereare other families out there with way more problems! I think thatthe twins, Nigel and Kyle, and Jake are the funniest characters...My favorite part of the movie was when Jake stood up to the bulliesat school to protect his brother. Unfortunatley that sent him to theprincipals office. Also it is funny how the person who alwayscomes to fix the chandeler always falls off of the ladder and justre-breaks the glass! It is so funny! I cant wait until I buy thismovie!!!!!!!!
Forget Shakespeare, Eugene O'Neill, move over Marlon Brando - Steve Martinhas finally arrived in this masterpiece of dramatic art. Never has theAmerican cinema been so illuminated by such brilliance. I am shocked theAcademy and the other groups overlooked this film. It is a comicmasterpiece built on gut-wrenching tragedy. Martin and Hunt should havewonlifetime achievement awards for this film alone! Instead people arehavingintellectual orgasms over such schlock as that stupid troll movie made inNew Zealand - while this little gem was overlooked. In reality - the above is about the only lie I could make up. This filmisa total waste of time. Steve Martin phoned in his performance, as dideveryone else with the exception of Jacob Smith who plays one of the 12kidsand is given some character to work with. Poorly directed, written, actedand a complete waste of money and time. Thank-you. Please have someonewakeSteve Martin up and give him a good script.
It's true that the fun of having more than two or three kids iscancelled out by the subsequent responsibility and expense of paying fortheir college, but when we don't have to pay more than the price of a movieticket to experience a large family, then it's tons of fun. So, first off, yes, I have to admit that the mere fact that the movie centers around a14-member extended family makes it enjoyable from the start. I was almostinstanteously engaged until over halfway through the movie trying to keeptrack of who was who, and with such a talented and diverse ensemble, Ienjoyed watching all of the development, especially Mark (Forest Landiss),the kid who kind of tied the whole story together. They even found room foroverrated stars like Ashton Kutcher and Hillary Duff as one-note charactersamong the others. I also think that underneath all the comedy there was alot of moral value within the conflicts between Steve Martin and his familyand all those people trying to tear it apart (like the coach and hisfame-career-driven attitude and Ashton Kuthcer's character and hisnarcissism and the bullies at school and Paula Marshall and her preppyconformity).
OK, I admit it  I liked Cheaper By The Dozen. Didn't LOVE it, but I likedit. Which will place me squarely in the critical minority, I'm sure. But,here's the thing. I'm first, and foremost, a family man. And, from aparental perspective, I can tell you that films I can feel comfortablesitting down and watching with my kids are few and far between. Cheaper ByThe Dozen is one of those films, a non-threatening, light-hearted piece offluff that leaves you feeling .pretty good. When the film opens, Tom (Steve Martin) & Kate (Bonnie Hunt) Baker arehappily raising their brood of 12 children (including Tom Welling & HilaryDuff) in a quaint country home filled with the sounds of organized chaos. When Tom, a football coach, lands his dream job coaching his alma mater, thefamily picks up and moves to the city where the kids have a hard timeadjusting to their new life and cope by creating plenty of mischief. Shortlyafter arriving in their new home, Kate learns that her recently completedbook has been published and she reluctantly embarks on a two-week book tourleaving Tom to run things at home. With his growing responsibilities at workand a small army of rebellious children to contend with at home, Tomconfronts the issues of balancing work and family with results that areoften very humorous. If all of this sounds very formulaic it is. There is little in the way ofsurprises here  much of the plot is recycled from any one of a dozen otherfamily films (this film is, in fact, based on a 1950 film of the same titlealthough this film bears little resemblance to the Clifton Webb/Jeanne Crainversion). But it is loaded with nice little comedic moments, such as a frogthat disrupts the family breakfast, a running gag involving a chandelier(featuring a fit and trim Wayne Knight), Tom trying to cook dinner whiledealing with a steady flow of child-related issues, and a gag involving thefamily dog, meat-soaked underwear, and Ashton Kutcher (I gotta admire theguy for looking straight-faced into the camera while delivering the line `Myface is what gets me jobs. I know I'm not a good actor, it's the face thatgets the work!'). Under the comedic surface lie themes of family unity, cooperation, priorities, and unconditional love.As for the performances, they're ok. Martin (Bringing Down The House, Fatherof the Bride) and Hunt (Beethoven, Bug's Life) work nicely off of oneanother and have a pretty decent on-screen chemistry. Duff (The LizzieMaguire Movie, Agent Cody Banks) doesn't have to stretch too far playing thefamily's teen fashion diva and Welling (TV's Smallville) gets plenty of facetime as the oldest brother. Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) is the oldest childwho has recently left the nest to move in with her actor boyfriend. With anensemble cast this large, it is difficult for anyone in the cast to standout performance wise, but each gets a moment during the film to reveal a bitof his or her personality.Overall, Cheaper By The Dozen is innocent and inoffensive family fare thatthe kids will probably love and parents will find ratherenjoyable.
This is a family movie, so you can buy (or rent it) without really flinching about dirty words or inappropriate behavior. Here are a dozen reasons why it's OK and not so OK.1) (Good) Steve Martin is perfect for these kind of roles. He remains the personification of the unflappable leading man that he's portrayed in films like "Parenthood" and "Father Of The Bride."2) (Bad) Bonnie Hunt is wasted. She comes off well, but ultimately the kids and Martin have to carry the film.3) (Good) The kids are likable, and, at times, very touching (Especially Mark/Fed Ex). None of them utter curse words or make smutty jokes.4) (Bad) That the kids frequently flagrantly disobey house rules without any kind of discipline. (Although the pants and meat gag is the film's best joke.) They plot and scheme sadistic traps ala "Home Alone" lite, and spend a fair amount of time saying how badly the parents' work is interfering with their lives, never minding the fact that Dad's new job is putting them into a higher standard of living then they've ever known before. (Tom Welling in particular.)5) (Good) Nice to see parents who are willing to try to live their dreams, not shut everything else out of their lives and do so without resentment towards each other. 6) (Bad) Does anyone really believe you could practice a College football team in a back yard?7) (Good) Despite having twelve kids on screen (OK, so Nora, the oldest, is living on her own), each kid gets some time to chew the scenery and does so without getting overtly cute or sugary.8) (Bad) The DVD sports a serious lack of extras. Fox couldn't fit a trailer on the disc but found space to promote the upcoming "Garfield?" Boo and hiss.9) (Good) Ashton Kutcher playing right into type as Nora's narcissistic boyfriend.10) (Bad) I am getting really tired of all things Hillary Duff.11) (Good) Any soundtrack that features 10,000 Maniacs and Fountains of Wayne is all right by me.12) (Ultimate Good) The final messgae is that families can ultimately be happiest if they stay honest to themselves. Even in a movie as slight as "Cheaper By The Dozen," it is a message that is usally ignored or, even worse, mocked by most current Hollywood fare, here it is movie's strongest core statement. That alone makes "Cheaper By The Dozen" worth at least a viewing.
This affable comedy about a family with 12 kids is nothing special, butperfectly ok for a lazy afternoon. Steve Martin plays the dad, who causes friction within the family by movingthem from their home in the country to the suburbs when he gets a jobcoaching college football. Bonnie Hunt is the mother, who causes frictionwithin the family by leaving for a book tour. Being aimed at young kids and their parents, it's all very predictable andcrammed with corny life lessons, but since it's pretty enjoyable and not TOOpushy with its morals, I could enjoy it as well, even if it is annoyinglycutesy at times. I enjoyed the performances by Piper Perabo ("Lost and Delirious") and TomWelling (TV's "Smallville") as the two eldest children, and it certainlyhelps to have the always beautiful and intelligent Bonnie Hunt in the mix.Steve Martin doesn't re-invent the wheel with his performance, but isreliable as usual. The younger kids are a big, faceless mob, but it would probably be too muchto ask to have all 14 members of the family be well-developed characters, sothat's ok. Ironically, the funniest character in the film is played by someone Ithought I hated: Ashton Kutcher. As Perabo's character's conceitedmodel/actor boyfriend, Kutcher gives an amusing performance and showswillingness to poke fun at himself, which elevates my opinion of himsubstantially. Referring to his face, he says "This is the moneymaker! I'mnot that good an actor, I know that!" Moments like that and a few others make "Cheaper By The Dozen" worth a look. There are much better movies out right now, but you could definitely doworse.
Look. I like Steve Martin. I liked him in his early films, like The Jerk, and liked him later in All of Me and LA Story. True, I walked out of TheMan with Two Brains, but I wanted to give Cheaper by the Dozen a fair shake. I read no reviews, and had really warm memories of reading the book in the1950's. It (the book) was a funny, warm family story. This film, however,is similar only in that there are 12 kids. This film was horrible, boring, and seemed to get longer by the minute. The kids' expressions wereuniformly: roll your eyes, and say the equivalent of "Like Doh" or"Whatever." They spoke a rapid-fire lingo of sports announcers, and--beforeI go on--I say save your money. I am embarrassed for Steve Martin. Theremust be other ways to make a quick buck than churning out stuff like this. Read the book--it's old, but it's much better.
don't remake it.This is the latest in a long line of really pathetic attempts to modernize some very good film classics. As in the destruction of the "Father of the Bride" movies, this one is inane and completely misses the point and the humor of the original.I really wish Steve Martin would go back to walking around with an arrow through his head. He was much funnier then.
Some people think that the star of this film has become less funny inrecent years, I can agree in some ways, but this is almost one nearexception, from director Shawn Levy (remake of The Pink Panther, Nightat the Museum). Basically, Tom Baker (Steve Martin) is a famousfootball coach who decides it is time for his family to get more space. He needs it, he and wife Kate (Jumanji's Bonnie Hunt) have had 12 kidstogether. Unfortunately, while she is away on a business trip, topromote her book for a while, the younger kids are causing havoc bothin the house and the neighbourhood, and Tom has struggle with keepingthem under control, not getting in the way of Kate's business, notpaying attention to his teenagers, Nora (Piper Perabo), Charlie(Smallville's Tom Welling) Lorraine as Hilary Duff (apart from to askto babysit, at inconvenient times), and of course, trying to achievehis dream of greater coaching opportunities. Also starring Kevin G.Schmidt as Henry Baker, Alyson Stoner as Sarah Baker, Small Soldiers'Jacob Smith as Jake Baker, Liliana Mumy as Jessica Baker, Morgan Yorkas Kim Baker, Forrest Landis as Mark Baker, Blake Woodruff as MikeBaker, Brent and Shane Kinsman as twins Nigel and Kyle Baker, PaulaMarshall as Tina Shenk, Steven Anthony Lawrence as Dylan Shenk, FerrisBueller's Alan Ruck as Bill Shenk, The Core's Richard Jenkins as Shake,Without a Paddle's Dax Shepard as Camera Crew Member, Wayne Knight asElectrician and Dude, Where's My Car?'s Razzie nominated Ashton Kutcheras Hank. I think this is worth seeing for the funny chaotic events ofyoung children, and Martin trying to sort it. Okay!
i saw the screening yesterday not expecting much, but found myselfthoroughly enjoying this movie.. not only is it funny and clever, but alsoheartwarming without being over the top.. and especially great familymovie, but also fun to see with friends.. teenage stars hillary duff and tomwelling will surely draw fans, but it's the younger actors and actressesinthis movie that really make it memorable.. i most definitely recommendthismovie when it comes out..
Just kidding. I truly believe that some people have good intentions whencommencing to write a critique. However, it seems to me like some of thepeople who commented about "Cheaper by the Dozen" were either on drugs orshould be. Sheesh guys...it was a movie. It was just plain oldentertainment. Time will decide whether or not this film was a classic. Please, take it from me don't hold your breath waiting. I'm not going tohold mine.Yup, I thought it was going to be a comedy. Yup, I became annoyed with themovie about the time they all moved to Evanston, IL. Yup, the lil redheadeddude[Mark] reminded me of the Harry Potter kid. Big deal. Frankly, thelast152 critiques were funnier, though some much more annoying in length, thanthe kids in that movie. All in all...it was an okay film. Well worth the 99 cents that I spent torent it. Musicians1, Victor Field and Katrina Ann Van Tylor were slendidascomedic crictics. Katrina should be given the award for Epic criticism.Victor the award for best music critic and last and thank god not leastmusician1 The Life Time Achievement Award for lack of any structure, punctuation or thought. Musician1 is the person who I owe my deepestgratitude for getting me to read all 152 comments. I had to see if theywereall going to be so rambling. Thank goodness for brevity.
I expected this movie to be a lot more funnier than it was but then itwas not that bad.Steve Martin is my all time favorite comedian and heout stands the roles he plays as a father. The other roles played byBonnie Hunt,Piper Parabo,Tom Welling,Hillary Duff were well suited.Thekids of course were the best part of the movie. My favorite being theyoungest twins. There were some really silly moments in the movie, but inthe end it gets sweeter and all is forgotten. The kids most of the timequarreling gave me a headache and I had to turn down the volume on thestereo. It was worse than the sound of bullets. This movie is meant for afamily to watch together. It is very funny and will be there on yourmind for sometime.
How many films can you go out and watch as an entire family? My familyages11 and up gave this film 4 thumbs up. Great family movie. Ours enjoyedittremendously. The twins will make you smile. Story line maybe a bit weakbut it was very entertaining.
A very funny update on the old classic. Steve Martinand Bonnie Hunt have an on screen chemistry together that makes the movie work. Appearances by Hilary Duff help, too. Our whole family enjoyed it.
Summary- The book Cheaper by the dozen is about a man and his family who have to be abel to make more money so they move to a different town. They get the name Cheaper by the donzen because there are twelve kids in their family. All this family is about is fight, fight and more fight. When the kids have to move to a new town their parents tell the kids going to fit in, now what do you think is going to happen? Well read tehe book and you will find out! Summary- The movie Chepaer by the dozen is a great movie. It is almost the same plot as the book. They do have their differences. How they are alike- The book cheaper by the dozen and the movie do have some things alike and there are aloso some differnt things. To start off with one of one things that os different is in the movie the dad is a very slim in shape man, and in the book the dad is a very fat out of shape man. Also the kids in the movie have different names form the kids in the book. One of the main things is that they discribe their house totaly diffent then they acctualy look. In thee book kids acctuly look different too.
Of course, Steve Martin is a joy to watch in almost anything, and I was expecting a reprisal of his role in the wonderful PARENTHOOD. Sadly, this was not. I do not think he makes a believable football coach. But most of all, I was bored to tears and a little disgusted by kids bratty behavior being the centerpiece of the jokes. If you come from a large family, or know someone who does, you know that discipline is the cornerstone of that many people living together. I find it incredibly hard to believe that a parent of so many offspring would calmly accept or condone any of their behavior. I wanted to spank all twelve of them (and the parents for letting them get away with it).
