Indoctrination to our kids

I loved the first cars movie but the second one was a disappointing movie, they try to tell us the oil company are evil and the green fuel is the way to go, and I won't never let a movie like that in my house, we know that anyone is agree with global warming and green world is just a hoax.

Pixar's Cars 2 - For Kids of Every Age

Animation is for every age, especially when it comes from leaders ofthe genre at Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. Thissequel to 2006's award-winning movie Cars is in theaters now, and KIDSFIRST! film critic Ny'Asia Bell (age 7) gives several reasons to makeCars 2 a summer entertainment choice. This movie was great - full of fast cars, lots of action and flawlessanimation. Lightning McQueen is voiced by Owen Wilson, and hislong-time best friend, tow Mater, is voiced by Larry the Cable Guy.They accept a challenge from Francesco Bernoulli (John Turturro) tocompete in the World Grand Prix in Tokyo. While there, Mater getsmistaken for an American secret agent, and eventually helps to solve abig and dangerous case.My favorite character is Mater, because of his courage and humor. He isa real hero. Then there are the characters Holley Shiftwell (EmilyMortimer) and Finn McMissile (Michael Caine). I loved all their coolgadgets. My favorite part of the film is when Mater cracks the case andfinds out what car is behind all this mayhem.I rate this movie 4 out of 5 stars, because it does contain someviolent scenes. I recommend this movie to kids ages 7 and up. See hervideo review here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzbKjiimLe8Reviewed by Ny'Asia Bell, age 7, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic

Will NOT be getting a purchase from me

I really can't understand how John Lasseter thought this was a worthy follow-up to a wonderful movie like the first Cars. I think that movie gets a lot of undeserved flack, but this one deserves every bit of it.The premise alone worried me quite a bit. A movie about simple life values given a sequel as a spy movie? It doesn't work as a James Bond parody. It doesn't work as a comedy. It just flat out doesn't work. Once in the theater was too much. No way will I be buying it on BR or DVD.Only thing that saves it from getting one star was the final chase sequence, which was fairly entertaining, but definitely not worth the first parts.

Out the Heart, In the Fun

Cars 2 may be one of Pixar's weakest, but that's certainly the biggestweakness of them all. In the latest installment, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is gettingready for a worldwide competition, the World Grand Prix, and takes hisold pal Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) with him to the opening race. Aturn of events gets Mater caught up in a secret spy mission, led byFinn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell, to stop the "lemon" cars frominitiating an attach against new electric oil, Allinol, for their moreprofitable and less eco-savvy crude oil reserves. Sounds like a highconcept story for a kids film, but Cars 2 succeeds, because it doesn'tever treat it's audience like their in a childlike fantasy that thecharacters would otherwise seem to make up.With big eyes, and cars with mouths, it's the most ridiculous (andadolescent) of Pixar's features, and yet the rest of the animation isstunning; the flashy, high-energy kinetic vibe of Tokyo to the dreamyItalian landscape, all of the animation in this film is stunning; iwould daresay some of Pixar's best. This film, unlike many othersequels, actually attempts something new. It brings a whole newdefinition to the previously established series, this time accentingthe youth-obsessed sports car age, both with the James Bond-esque plotand the eco-savvy thematic conflicts. It's high voltage, and it's awhole lot of fun. The pacing is non- stop and the action sequences aredone brilliantly. That being said, what it makes of thrills and action,it sags in emotional heart and laughs. Though the film banks on current environmental arguments to delve intothe theme of being proud of who you truly are and the value offriendship, it it loses the depth of the film in the action that wehave come to expect from Pixar. In fact, having seen Pixar's otherfilms is the weakest aspect. You know how good they can be, so to seethem not on their A-game (I would call it at least a B-game), manycritics took it down. But even though it's animation outshines it'semotional core, it's a whole lot of fun. B+

Stunning

An animation movie is worth what's worth that's all. But this one has awhirl of stunning images and scenes technically almost perfect andextremely efficient and impressive. The humanized cars are greatlyexpressive in terms of "facial" and "body" features and gestures thatmake us always forget they aren't people. Their movements look humanindeed. And we don't see a single human being all through the movie asif the world was peopled with cars behaving like people and showinghuman feelings and thoughts, some of them being the "bad" and someothers the "good" ones. There also several good humoured sequences likethose performed by the tow van character, a really well conceived one.And the reproduction of cities like Paris, London and Italy are veryrealistic and beautiful almost looking like photos. And the story? Wellthe story the less important aspect of the movie as it often happens inanimation movies. Something about the use of car fuel, the very modernduel between petrol and alternative less polluting fuels which in thisstory involve a fight between the "goodies" who defend the formeragainst the "baddies" that try to discredit it in favour of petrol bymeans of several criminal and violent actions. If you go to see thismovie you'll spend a pleasant time having a visual very effectiveentertainment

Terrible movie

The only reason I don't give it one star is the animation, which is impressive (as one would expect from Pixar). Other than this, the movie is a bomb. First off, I was shocked at the level of violence in the movie. It is, IMO, not appropriate for little kids. If your kids are a little bit older, then fine, but the older kids will probably be turned off by the weak and poorly-executed storyline. As far as the story goes, this is a really stupid movie; probably the worst Pixar movie ever (with the possible exception of Wall-E). Lightning McQueen is a minor character; the main focus is on Mader, who is amusing in small doses but who's bumpkin routine gets old very quickly. It's really disgraceful to see them put out such trash to ride on the coat-tails of such a wonderful initial movie. So not recommended.

Great Movie!

I loved this movie! I just cannot understand all the bad reviews! My younger brothers are wild about it too and they are going to buy it as soon as they can. This is definitely one of my favorite movies,I would rate it TEN stars if I could.

Something's Missing

The saddest thing about Pixar today is, they don't know what movie theyare going to release on their 25th Anniversary since one of theirupcoming projects "Newt" was cancelled despite from Blue Sky's Rioplot. Cars 2 feels like it's a direct-to-DVD film. It's not really badbut it's just unnecessary. Though, the action is pretty cool. The kidswill enjoy it but the rest is like Rango. Instead of Western Themes,it's Spy movies. The story isn't bad except it doesn't give anythingemotional and heartwarming unlike the other Pixar movies. Cars 2 ispretty fun but the most important ingredient of their movies ismissing.Firstly, the lead of the film is Mater. The theme of the film isEspionage but it's just some sort of an animated version of aparticular spy movie. Everything moves here. There are too many actionthat any kid can enjoy but the story is probably too interesting forgrown ups. If the movie gets focused to the plot, the kids might getbored. The missing Pixar element here is the heartwarming moments. Themovie still has a heart but it fails to be compelling. Don't worryabout the humor, that is one thing they will never fail. Some of thewriting seems rushed. The voices do what they do best. John Lasseter knows what to do in thismovie. The animation is obviously pretty good. The score is a bitgeneric that you may hear in any movie or television show. The actionkeeps everything moving. Watching the car fighting scenes is likewatching a kid playing his little toy cars and let them do somethingfun. Which is pretty impressive. In Pixar, the craftsmanship or the animation doesn't quite matter. It'sall about the compelling story and the emotional heartwarming moments. It's hard to say Cars 2 is bad film. Pixar still knows how to make agood movie but without their important elements, it's like you'rewatching a movie from a different studio. Once again, it's pretty funbut if you expect a lot of Pixar magic then you might get disappointed.

Not Pixar's best film, but still certainly enjoyable!

"Cars 2" is the sequel to "Cars" (well, duh). The only thing is, thetwo movies are hardly related to each other. In "Cars", LightningMcQueen, a spoiled hotshot race car, discovers the meaning of truefamily and friendship. In "Cars 2", the story focuses on Mater(McQueen's best friend) and how he somehow gets caught up in a spymission.I was prepared for disappointment, considering all the reviews that Iheard. But I was really surprised! "Cars 2" was very enjoyable! Thehumor was funny and the action was great! I did like the plot. It sortof reminded me of a real James Bond film. Who knew talking cars and anaction/mystery genre could work? Most of the reasons that people didn't like this film was because thissequel wasn't related to "Cars" at all. But if the first film wasn'tconsidered, then people would find that "Cars 2" is actually be apretty good movie! But to be honest, I think that I would have likedthis movie more if it was a new original Pixar movie, not just a sequelto "Cars".While watching this, just forget about "Cars" for a while and enjoy thehumor and action that "Cars 2" gives. Pixar still did good!Viewed on: August 29, 2011

for an animation movie is great for a Pixar movie is just OK

As many people mentioned before Cars is a movie that didn't deserved asequel. I mean, talking cars is not the best idea to start with butsomehow they managed to bring some emotions in part one. I rememberthat I was a little bored with the slow pace of the first Cars, butagain they tried to connect the audience with the characters ( in myopinion McQueen is not a likable one). In the end Cars was good but itwas missing something. Now, the sequel goes a completely different way,and first I thought that was a good and original move, but I also thinkthat Mater has a lot of time on screen and frankly that is annoying (it is the typical character that always screw things off but hey welove him because he has a big big heart and he will never let hisfriend down come on¡¡¡ that is so childlish and its okay for the kids, but we know that Pixar has made it to the top because they connect withkids and adults equally. Im not saying that you will have a bad time, because the movie its entertaining, but it lacks heart and genuineemotions. And that for a Pixar movie is just sad. Hopefully theydeliver a better film next year.

Cars 2 Made Me BOYCOTT Cars Toys

This film was written to market new cars for the Pixar Cars line. If you could get past the spy and espionage theme of the film, could you get past the CLEAR merchandising strategy of manipulating the viewer into buying new versions of mater, and all the new Euro cars? I'm definitely not buying it. Pun intended. And it's not just about espionage and "secret agents" like you would find on an episode of the Backyardigans trying to solve a mystery, they actually have themes of torture in the film (i.e. stripping a car's tires to extract information from him). I was completely shocked. It was the first time ever taking my 2 year old daughter to the movies, and I wish she had never seen it. Cars is a sweet, character-driven film, Cars 2 has rare sweet moments and it's more of a plot-driven action film.I can see why many people might like this film, but I hope people can see why many people would find Cars 2 to be a quite extreme for them.

Very cute

I was very skeptical about watching this movie however, I wasn't disappointed; it had a cute story. I didn't quite like it as much as the first but it was defiantly worth watching.

Cars 2 DVD

This review is from: Cars 2 (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I had previously purchased this DVD for my Grandson and we had both seen it at the movies. So when my God child wanted it, did not hesitate to purchase it for her Christmas gift.

Beyond Disappointed.

Our son LOVES the original movie Cars. We have watched it multiple times and were thrilled to see that second movie would be coming out. Within 5 minutes of the movie starting, my jaw dropped and I asked my husband if we should leave. Luckily our 3 year old didn't ask any questions about the excessive violence. I was completely appalled. We weren't warned, and I NEVER would have taken him to see this.I was, and continue to be extremely disappointed in the plot and execution of this movie. Major thumbs down Pixar.

Cars 2

'Cars 2' (2011) picks up a few years after the original left off, withLightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) winning 3 more Piston Cups since welast saw him win his first and has now been invited to participate inthe new World Grand Prix. In this sequel, the attention is dividedbetween McQueen and his tow-truck best friend Mater (Larry the CableGuy), who is unwittingly roped himself into a top secret missioninvolving international spies.Yes it is another Pixar sequel, and not the last from the highlyregarded animation company with the follow-up to 'Monsters, Inc.'(2001), 'Monsters University' slated for a 2013 release. Is this a badthing? Yes and no. While many commentators will argue that 'Cars 2' isthe beginning of the sale of Pixar's soul, I tend to give the company abit more credit than that. Not only have they created some of thegreatest children's films of the past 20 years, but have created filmsthat transcend the 'target' audience and leaves a lasting impact onaudiences of all ages. 'Cars 2', it must be said however, is not their best work. In fact, itis probably one the least enjoyable experiences I have had out of aPixar film. The important thing to note though is that this does notmean it was bad. Not at all, rather just lacking in comparison to thebrilliance of 'Finding Nemo' (2003) and 'Toy Story' (1995). All in all,it was a good family film, with a particular emphasis on action. 2 longaction sequences that bookend the film are brilliantly done and is someof the best high-speed work done in animation. Mater is extremelylovable, goofy character and complements the excellent voice work ofMichael Caine as the international spy Finn. Where I have issue with this film is the script. There are too manycheesy one-liners plucked from the last 30 years of children's actionfilms and not enough slickness and wit that usually overflows fromPixar's scripts. There is also a lack of sentiment that accompanies thebest of the companies films. 'Finding Nemo' for example, makes me, an18 year old, cry, laugh and cry again all in the space in 90 minutes. That powerful use of emotion is not found in this film, at least not toa great degree. However, that makes it seem a lot worse than it actually was. It wasstill a great film (certainly better than anything DreamWorks can putup), and it made my and my brother laugh numerous times.

The Name is Mater, Tow Mater

So yesterday I decided to hit the latest addition to the Pixar FamilyCars 2, and see if Pixar could still make a good sequel. I'm happy tosay that Pixar has once again crafted a fun, adventurous, andentertaining film that will please a lot of fans of the studio's work. However, I must admit that I was surprised by this movie is the amountof maturity in this film and the fact that it is only rated G, butwe'll talk about that later.Cars 2 starts out with a fast and flashy sequence of spy car fun as wewatch the skilled spy car Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) infiltrate andoil rig fortress. After some exciting chase scenes, clever use ofgadgets, and a catchy spy action tune, McMissile escapes and wonderswho in the world can help save the world. Cue Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), as we see the happy go lucky tow truckride down the road and helping people in that innocent manner that madehim famous. As he helps tow a poor broken down car, Mater gives us theback story of what Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) has been up to inthe past, which mainly involves racing and winning the Piston Cup, nownamed after the Hudson Hornet from the previous film. By chance McQueenjust happens to be in town allowing the tow truck and race car to meetback up, in a brotherly fashion, and embark on their classic adventureswe saw in the previous movie. After a few minutes of nostalgia, acouple of glimpses of an upgraded Radiator Springs, and that rekindledrelationship between Sally (Bonnie Hunt) and McQueen, Radiator Springsis ditched as McQueen, thanks to the assistance of Mater, accepts thechallenge of the international race competition. It doesn't take long for McQueen and Mater to begin their internationaladventure, starting in Towkyo, Japan. Once they arrive in Japan,Pixar's classic moral story begins to come to fruition as we see aclassic friendship face the tests of the judgement of society. WhileMcQueen kind of reverts back into the selfish car obsessed with imageand reputation from the first film, Mater still provides us with abounty of laughs as his stupidity and clumsiness is introduced to theworld. Here is where I wish to tell you that Mater is the focus of thismovie and fans of Mater will not be disappointed by rust coveredcountry bumpkin car. Whether it is mistaking wasabi for pistachio icecream, spilling stuff on the floor, or awkwardly participating inconversations he is confused in Mater is still as lovable as the firstfilm. The twist to this film though is more about the spy business integratedinto this story and Mater's role in the organization. I was impressedby how Pixar recruited Mater into the organization and how they kepthis true identity a secret from McMissile throughout most of the movie.Pixar also made the effort to add another level of detail to the movieby also developing the relationships between Mater and McMissile aswell as Ms. Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer) the new agent intraining. However, this is also a kids' movie and most of the youngeraudience will not really appreciate the character development Pixar hasin this film. Instead the younger generation was more interested in theaction and excitement the movie had the offer. Pixar's clever mind hasonce again found a way to make an idea work as they have brilliantlyintegrated weapons, martial arts, and gadgets into the car universe. Iwas impressed by how Pixar kept the scenes interesting and prettydiverse which kept the action and gadget use fun. Mater's idiotic useof gadgets and innocent humor was also well balanced and fun which keptme and the rest of the audience into the movie. This brings me to my next topic: the action has made the movie moremature. I was surprised by the amount of explosions, gun use, and deathin this movie. A lot of the darkness, evil plotting, and shooting Ifelt was a bit too James Bond like for younger audiences and seemed tomake this movie shift more towards adults. Also I felt the action inthis film took away a lot of the emotional buildup the first movie had, which was one of the aspects I enjoyed most about that film. AlthoughPixar still had emotional development between Mater and the spy cars,it still was as impacting as McQueen's emotional journey with RadiatorSprings. I also was not as impressed with the racing scenes as in thefirst film. The spy action took a lot of screen time, which resulted inthe actual race being replaced with small snippets of high adrenaline, engine roaring, or race car taunting, mainly from John Turturro.Overall Cars 2 is one of the better sequels I have seen in a while andis still as fun and brilliantly shot as its predecessor. The voice workis well placed, the action is fun and exciting, and the comedy is stillthe same throughout the movie. However, I still miss that emotionbetween McQueen and the radiator springs crew, especially from Doc andwished they would have put a little more involvement with the rest ofradiator springs. Overall I give this movie an 8.0 or 8.5 for that samePixar magic. I again wish to remind parents that there is a little morematurity in this movie than expected and would probably say this ismore of a PG movie than a G. Regardless it's definitely worth seeing, especially for Mater fans, and would even be worth seeing in 3Dassuming you don't get sick and are willing to pay the price. Until then keep enjoying the movies!

Not bad, but mediocre

I don't wanna say that Cars was Pixar's "worst" movie, because thatwould suggest the fact that it is bad. It would be more appropriate todescribe it as "the least good one", because it offers good moments ofhumor, likable characters, extraordinary animation and interestingsubjects. However, I think that it fell short on the emotional impact, ingenuity from the screenplay and the direction...at least consideringthe high standards we are accustomed to see in a Pixar film. That's thereason why the idea of a sequel seemed strange to me. Would they belooking for another opportunity to prove that the motoring universefrom Cars has more potential than the one achieved in the first film?Or would it be a simple commercial strategy to repeat the success ofthe toys and commodity which was enjoyed by the original movie, something which compensated (to some point) its moderate box officesuccess? I think that the answer is the latter, because even though Ifound Cars 2 moderately entertaining and funny, I think that it is thefirst purely commercial project from Pixar, because it seems to havebeen made with the only intention of promoting the mentioned toys andother commodities associated with this franchise. And I cannot denythat that left me with a bitter taste. If the idea of a world inhabited by living vehicles seemed a bit forcedin Cars, the introduction of an action and espionage plot seems evenmore incongruent in this sequel, and I could not ignore all the logicalholes that doubtful premise provokes (two examples: Why are theretraditional houses in Paris and benches on the Tamesis' shore? Why doesthe Pope need a Popemobile?). In other words, Cars 2 is a much morechildish film than the original one, despite the presence of actionscenes, villains and heroes killing their opponents and mortal risksfor innocent characters. As for the action scenes, they are wellchoreographed, but they rarely produce any suspense or emotion.Another problem is that the simpleton Mater is the main character inhere, something which is consistent with the lighter tone from thescreenplay...but at the same time, that makes the movie loose thegenerally efficient balance of humor and drama from the original film.At least, we have the solid voice acting from Michael Caine as a JamesBond parody, and from Emily Mortimer as a rookie agent who must defeather insecurities in order to save the situation; they both bring energyand personality to their voices. In the technical aspect, Cars 2 surpasses its predecessor with a betterimage quality, more expression on the characters and excellent specialeffects. In conclusion, I can give a slight recommendation to Cars 2,mainly because it is moderately entertaining after all. However, I alsofound it mediocre, and I think that it betrays Pixar's integrity, dueto the fact that, as I previously mentioned, this mainly feels like amerely commercial project.

Buying the bundle for the digital copy was a mistake

This review is from: Cars 2 (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Whoever is selling these is buying them, using the security key and digital copy and selling them back. So if you are buying the bundle for the inclusion of the digital copy don't wast your money.

Screw the critics

It's been a few years since Lightning McQueen learned to take it slow. Now he's been racing, and has won 4 piston cups. After all that, he want to slow done once again. However, when he sees that the world grand pri is coming round, and one of it's racers, is mocking him, Mater (Larry the cable guy) convices him to enter the grand pri. They head to japan, where Mater runs into super spy, Finn McMissile, who thinks Mater is an American spy he wishes to meet with. Him and his partner, Holly shiftwell, take mater on to help them stop the evil Professer Zundapp from using a new alternative fuel to..well you know. The first question you might want answer is "Is it as bad as critics say?". Well, my answer is...No. Not at all! Infact... i loved it!Let me first say the one problem i had, which didn't really bug me that much, but it's still enough to take some points offLike some people have said, it doesn't have the heart all the pixar movies have. There's only one scene of real emotion, and it feels slapped on. But it doesn't really take away from how fun it is.I think what really makes it good, is the spy element. Some people say it's out of place, but i didn't care, it was still pretty cool. Finn is a great character, while not too complex, he is just awesome. This is due to a great performance by Micheal Caine. He just sounds great, and it seems like he had fun with this movie. Everyone does in factNow for the other common complaint: Mater. He's the main character this time around, which bugs people. Personally, i didn't mind it. I love mater, and he's big role in it is fine for me. He plays off well against Finn and Holly,. Mater is also just plain awesome. He ends up figuring out the bad guys plan in a very cool way, and he is bad ass with his new spy statusYes, McQueen isn't in it much, but he is in it. I would of like to see more of him, and as a spy, but it's ok he's not in it much. For those wondering, A113 is on Mater's license plate. Also on the tail of the spy plane Siddeley. Additionally, the number appears beneath the photo of Axlerod's engine when Finn, Holley, and Mater are examining it for the first time.Infact, this has the most A113's in a pixar movie. Pretty cool, eh?The score is pretty cool too. Though it's not the best. The main theme is really good i must say. This is done by the same cuy who composed The Incredibles and Up, just so you know.As for what i think of the negative reviews..eh i don't care anymore. So pixar made a negatively reviewed movie. So what? Everyone makes mistakes once in awhile. Though i do think some of the reviewers are asking too much from this movie. To sum it up, Cars 2 is not the smartest pixar movie, but it's still an incredibly fun ride and i will be watching it for years to come.Score: 8.9/10Oh, and if you wanna know my thoughts on The Toy Story Short, that came with Cars 2, I loved it. It was funny.

Cars 2

This is a good value. My son and I are sharing this five disc combo set. He has a 3D device and I enjoy having the digital on my iPod touch and soon to have iPad. We also both have Blu-ray players so this was a no brainer in a way. Cars 2 is a wonderful followup to Cars. Enjoyed the humor and amazing animation.
