LOVED THIS ONE

This review is from: Carolina Moon (DVD) I HAD NOT READ THIS BOOK. I REALLY ENJOYED THE MOVIE. THE ACTING WAS GOOD AND I CARED ABOUT THE PEOPLE. PICTURE QUALITY WAS THE BEST AND SO WAS THE SOUND. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS ONE.

Quite Good - Really!

There are a lot of descriptions of what the movie is about, so I'lljust tell you whether you should see it or not. I have not read thebook, so I cannot make pronouncements of accuracy or faithfulness tothe text. I'll be honest: I watch CSI: NY, and liked Claire Forlani'srole on that show, and I was looking to see what else she had done.This popped up near the top of my searches. I don't really care thatperhaps the demonstrated use of guns in the film may or may not havebeen incorrect. I'm just looking for involving entertainment; and oneor two wooden acting performances won't spoil it for me. That said, I did not feel that anybody was particularly 'wooden'(contrary to other user reviews). Most people were serviceable in theirroles; not outstanding, but not a bother either. Forlani and OliverHudson had good on-screen chemistry, and Josie Davis was also good.Carolina Moon DOES move at quite a leisurely pace, and most of theaction between the scary parts consists of conversation, so if you arelooking for super-powers and supernatural battles, or fisticuffs withthe occasional gun drawn, you will be disappointed for the most part.The flashes of 'special' sight are used sparingly, and as a result havegreat impact. This is not an adventure film; it is more of a characterstudy. I was reminded (in a vague way) of some of Tom Selleck's Jesse Stonemovies. Not of the characters, the plots, or even the resolutions, butof the overall feel of the film. The countryside looks glorious, andthe sun shines brightly - but there is menace lurking quietly in theshadows. First time viewers should be warned if they think this is a familyfilm. Little is shown on screen; but, there are events that happenoff-screen that include the beating of a child (10 - 12 years old) (notspanking, but whipping) by her father, as well as rape and murder ofseveral characters (all seen in the flashes of the 'special' sight, sothey are very brief, but can catch you unawares). I repeat, nothing isshown on- screen; but there was a director (Scorsese?) who said thatthe human imagination is more powerful than the most gruesome depictionon screen could be. Be warned!These are all peripheral considerations, though. Carolina Moon was forme a tense and moving picture that I will return to again to watch thecharacters, even though I now know the outcome. Special props toForlani, Hudson, and their supporting cast for keeping their actingstraight-forward, and for some directing which never gets in the way ofthe story. A solid 7 out of 10.

Great actors and actresses, story line was intriging, I didn't know who it was until the end of the show. Kind of suspense, romance mixed up together.

Book is better.

This review is from: Carolina Moon (DVD) The novel Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts was so much better than the film starring Claire Forlani and Oliver Hudson. Yes, the actors portraying Tori and Cade were a perfect match, but they always say the book is better and in this case the book was soooooo much better.I made sure to read the book before the film. I fell in love with the characters including Faith and Wade, and even Dwight. The book held your attention where the film faltered with that.I'm not saying it was a horrible film, not at all, but it just felt like there was so much more to explain. They cut out a lot of characters from the book I would've liked to have seen on film, and so many other scenes like the great conversation between Cade and Faith. In the book, the two siblings looked like they had a great connection, a very special bond, but in the film it was flat, and they looked as if they didn't care much for the other. Given, they are brother and sister, but their relationship in the film was sooo blah. Again, book was better. Film was okay. It went by really fast when the book seemed like it lasted a long time.

Nora Roberts finally getting her due!!

I've been reading Robert's books for years (her J.D. Robb series as well), so I was ecstatic to see that they'd brought her to television. Finally some feel-good romance in with the gangsta wannabe's and teen drama, and her books always have a good plot, so not the transparent norm. As for the movie itself, well "based off" is right as there are several things altered or switched around, but they did a pretty good job getting the feeling across, though it did feel a little rushed in places. My question however is: as I don't like to watch movies on my computer, is it permissable to burn them onto dvd and watch them on my tv (I don't have Tivo)? I think offering digital media is great as it will allow us access to movies we'd normally not be able to purchse, but to be honest, I'm little hesitant to buy something that would be gone if my pc ever went kuput and I didn't have a hard copy of it. If someone knows of a link where I can simply purchase the dvd, let me know please!!

Dire, absolutely dire

Painfully wooden acting, poor direction, and the plot was formulaic tosay the least. It wasn't too far into the film (thank goodness!) thatwe guessed who the murderer was, so we just skipped to the end toconfirm it. Even the inevitable scene where the plucky heroine is alonewhen she discovers who the villain is, was dull as ditch-water, and wecouldn't be bothered to sit through it.I haven't read the book, or anything written by the author, so I can'tcomment on how close the film is to the novel. Wouldn't have thoughthaving her name associated with this movie would do the writer'sreputation much good though ...

could have been better

This review is from: Carolina Moon (DVD) I bought this movie because I had read the book and was so excited to see it played out with real people. I was a tad disappointed but My husband didn't read the book and liked the movie. I would recommend renting it, and not buying it.

Excellent!

I loved this movie even more than reading the book! The acting wasgood, and the plot kept me in suspense throughout the movie. Thespecial effects made the movie even more suspenseful.The setting was beautiful, and all of the characters were played well,although I have to admit, I hope I never meet anyone like a few of thecharacters in this movie. I don't know how Nora Roberts keeps coming upwith fresh new stories so frequently, but I think Carolina Moon is oneof her best stories.This was a high quality, well done movie. It seems more like a movieyou would see at a theater rather than on TV. Definitely worth watching.

Horrible

This movie was nothing like the book. Everything was mixed up or changed. Most of the movie was things thatweren't even in the book.This movie never should have been viewed. It was a great disappointmentto me when I enjoyed the book so much and then to watch how this movietrashed the entire thing.I would never recommend this movie to anyone that is a fan of NoraRoberts or J.D. Robb.Honestly this movie is not worth watching with how off from the book isreally is.

Great movie...keeps you guessing.

I love movies that do not sing the praise of religion, where the truecharacter of the gospels are laid bare for all to see. Rather than showus churchgoers who live and let live, Carolina Moon shows the vile sideof religion, which is as essential to the character of faith as thesunny bright side illogic usually shows.The abusive father is one way to look as patriarchal religions, as isthe subservient mother. This movie shows both. Not just another TVmovie, Carolina Moon develops its characters and its plot. It's nomasterpiece, but if the plot is not gripping enough, the girls make italright.Oh, and who fixes up the dog? Sorry, not a god.

Better than expected...

This review is from: Carolina Moon (DVD) Enjoyed this far more than Angel's Fall. After seeing AF, I thought I'd try one more NR movie to see if they were at all the same, but found CM to be far more enjoyable. So much so that I'm tempted to buy another NR movie.The cast were good, and seemed more natural than AF. DVD quality was also very good.Recommend it to anyone wanting to purchase a NR DVD.

Carolina Moon -Nora Roberts

This review is from: Carolina Moon (DVD) I am a huge Nora Roberts book fan, so when I found out that her some of her books had been made into movies, I had to definetly watch one. I have watched several of her movies, some of which I have read and some I haven't read. Carolina Moon was a great book and I loved the movie. The characters and the actors fit the parts great. This movie is a special favorite of mine. I'm so glad I bought it to add to my collections! This movie rolls off the screen without any lags or slow parts in between. It's a great book and an even better movie. Now if I can keep my friends from wanting to always borrow it!

Not Enough Thrill

The story was interesting but the execution could have been better. The acting and the twists were mediocre. Could have been more thrilling but instead the movie remained on one level all throughout.Best: The plot was interesting on some levels.Worst: The acting brought the movie down.

Close to the book

I read the book and this movie was not a disapointment. Everything that I remember from the book was there. I think it might be a little easier to guess the villian from the DVD than during reading the book, but I can't say for sure seeing as I knew who it was.The acting is fine and Faith is paticularly good, just as she is a great character in the book. Cade's mother was maybe a bit too soap opera like.I loved the child actors at the begining of the movie too. All in all great fun to watch!

A decent made for tv movie. The story was good but a bit choppy. It could have been a bit more smoother from scene to scene.A clarvoinant woman is haunted by the death of her best friend's death. She moves back to her childhood home to make a new start.

Adequate

'Carolina Moon' is an adequate made-for-TV movie about a girl withpsychic powers who returns to the town whereshe grew up in and where her childhood best friend was murdered. Turnsout that every year on the same date anotheryoung girl is murdered and Tori, played by Claire Forlani, must solvethe mystery before she ends up dead. Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black,CSI New York) is the female lead and does a pretty good job of it, ablysupported by the rather delicious Oliver Hudsom and a still luminousJacqueline Bisset. The script, adapted from a Nora Roberts novel, isbog-standard and the plotis tediously predictable. That, however, is offset again by, like Isaid, the rather delicious Oliver Hudson.
