We have taken some photos of "Captain America: The First Avenger". They represent actual movie quality.
There are too many comic book action films that have been coming outbut Captain America is not only the best one, but is also the only onethat I actually liked. Now, some might argue that X-Men: First Classwas fantastic (I am NOT a fan of Thor), but, while not bad, I felt itdidn't reach its potential. As for Captain America, its maindistinction to other summer films is that it doesn't dive right intothe action. I appreciated the time it took to develop its characters, and, gee, there actually seemed to be a story going on here. I alsohave to warn those of you who might expect a straight up action flickto not get your hopes high. Although it didn't bother me, it does takea while before an action scene actually appears.Another distinction that separates itself from other superhero films isthe look of the film, coinciding its setting in 1942. Captain Americalooks and feels like an old-fashion film, and I really embraced it.This is also due to Alan Silvestri's score, which feels more classicthan modern film scores. Our protagonist, Steve Rogers, feels like areal person which adds an emotional weight to the film. We feel for himand want him to succeed in his goal. And once the story is set up andthe action finally comes to play, the action doesn't seem to appear foraction's sake. It actually propels the story. It also doesn't hurthaving a romance brewing between him and Peggy Carter. It was sweet anddidn't feel forced to me.Chris Evans plays the title character and he's great playing both theskinny, average Joe and the buff, all-American hero. He certainly stepsup his performance here compared to his other superhero character,Johnny Storm. He brings a sort of charisma and puppy dog charm to hisrole, and it seems like an automatic response to be on his side when wefirst meet his character. Hayley Atwell is totally believable as hislove interest as well. I would love to see what other things she has tooffer in future roles. With all good superhero films, there must be avillain to match it. In that case, it's not surprising that HugoWeaving doesn't disappoint. Just as the person he is, he can withholdan audience's attention without even trying.
Commanding a respectable fleet of dazzling explosions, a brigade oflaudably realistic and astounding CGI effects- particularly theremodeling of the human body from a scrawny to a brawny look- and anassortment of clever, comedic scenes, "Captain America: The FirstAvenger" ruthlessly conquers the audience's interest. The engaging andadmirable story of an internally fearless yet externally fragilesoldier sets an already promising start to a well loaded continuationof predictably eruptive fun. However, it is quite evident that thecomplexity of the action sequences is well below par since they arerestricted to colorful detonations and boomeranging shields.Unsurprisingly, the final confrontation against the leading villain isconsequently anti-climatic as it culminates to a brief and sloppyexchange of one or two punches. Speaking of the villain, there is neverany feeling of fright or anything closely resembling it seeing that heappears to be an emaciated sunburn victim. Nonetheless, therealistically surreal finish heals the film back from its previousbattle wounds of tedium. All in all, "Captain America: The FirstAvenger" successfully shields itself from the fusillade of blandfighting choreographies and strikes back with its multicolored weaponof exciting explosions, skillful use of CGI effects and enjoyablemoments of comedy.
This is the first movie I've seen, which is fitting given the word"First" in the title, he he! My friends said it's fun to watch moviesbut I don't really get the point. Supposedly it's supposed to be like apsychedelic experience, but with things actually happening, but ifsomeone else made up the story, then how is it going to be apsychedelic experience for ME? LOL. To be fair, the visual style of thefilm did put me in mind of "certain experiences," with the highlycontrasting colors and softly diffused light creating an augmentedreality reminiscent of dmt hallucinations, or lucid dreaming. However,I stand by my main point; the feeling was dampened a lot because I knewthe story wasn't actually true, and the dreamlike images felt lesspowerful with someone else's unconscious impulses running beneath them.I think YouTube creates a much more compelling audio/visual experiencebecause you never know if you're going to see something real or not. Also, there was a lot of really obvious patriotism in this movie. Kindasilly, guys.
I saw a midnight screening of this movie and i walked in with highhopes. I like Chris Evans and so far the other Marvel movies that havebeen released to lead up to the Avengers movie, have been pretty welldone. No movie is perfect, but this movie had so much hype, that it had tobe...but i (as much as many others) kinda got disappointed. *SPOILERSSSSSS* The scenes in the movie kinda looked like they were put together alittle sloppy. One scene didn't add up to the other, but you got thehint on what was going on. Also the ending was rather weak. The lastline in the movie "I had a date", then credits roll...that's not a wayto end a superhero movie let alone Captain America.Good things, well the acting was great. The jokes were always spot onand the action was pretty well laid out.Captain America was all around a good movie, i was just sitting at theend of the movie a little disappointed and confused. 7/10
C + Oh boy, Captain America. No, not Peter Fonda from Dennis Hopper's "EasyRider" but the patriotic mascot of Marvel. Yes, in the wake of the bigsuper hero project "The Avengers" there's been a lot of hype concerningMarvel in general, not to mention an upsurge in the sales of toys, lunchboxes and pencil pouches. "Iron Man", even its sub-par sequel, isa pretty all-right movie, while Thor was just a god-awful mess of amovie. Its jokes were redundant, its action lacking and storypathetically cliché. "Captain America" reaches a middle ground. It isnowhere near as disappointing as Chris Hemsworth, but not quite up topar with "Iron Man".One big detraction is the on-screen combat of the titular hero andvillain. Hugo Weaving is a great Redskull, very spot on, but he doesn'tget to do too much. The final physical battle is a decent one, butthat's all it is, decent. I enjoy the build-up to our hero's genesis, but its middle is annoying. We are shown an overly-long war bondselling montage, then we go more into his actual enlistment as asoldier, and then we break into a motorcycle flying out of an explodingwarehouse. We see an action montage of various battles and I assumeHydra's various factories being blown up. Much of the cast wasenjoyable and the majority of the movie prevails to be nowhere near ascorny as the Norse thunder god-Natalie Portman love story. It's over all a decent hero flick, but nowhere near a highlight of thegenre.
Captain America - another Marvel movie that attacked the cinemas. Andwell as expected, most of the watchers are Marvel fans. In my opinion, this movie is not really for a Marvel fan. As you know, recent Marvelfilms were like fun and modern, perhaps. But a little bit different forCaptain America where the movie sets in 1942, the Nazi's time, whichwould have been less interesting for Marvel's fans who love watchingmodern-type movie with modern skyscrapers and the modern speaking styleand accent. But the truth is, I felt the same way before I watched Captain America. So, I wasn't really going nuts just to watch this old-time movie. Ijust had to pick a movie to watch with my family, and when I started towatch it, I already started loving it. Chris Evans did the best asSteve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America which showed how determined he wasto protect America. I don't know why, but his face actually symbolizespatriotism. But I'm still thinking about how did the studio shrink hisbody to become skinny. As far as I know, he is muscular. Therefore, if you are a true Marvel fan, do not hate this. If haven'tlaid eyes on this movie, you have to do everything possible to watch itright now. Because this is actually a masterpiece that I'll beremembering years from now. It might not be cool as Spiderman, Thor orothers but it is just you know, created something inside of us, thefeeling to do something great for the country. And oh, besides TheAvengers, I'm hoping for a sequel.
As I see, people like Joe Johnston, believe in him, it seems thatMarvel and the producers believed in him too, Chris Evans got somenegative criticisms after the announcement, but later people were likeit is OK with him. My problem with the movie is mostly related todirection and the cast, but it doesn't mean that the script isflawless. As I see, kid or adult, many people think that Jumanji wasgreat, but for me, it was not better than any "Spy Kids" movie. I sawWolfman, it was a well made production, technically well looking, butthe rest was awful. Hidalgo, I saw it on TV, but watched for a while, then couldn't keep watching, because it was average. I couldn'tremember Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and I haven't seen The Rocketeer,Jurassic Park 3 and October Sky. The question is why they didn't choosea more successful and masterful director for such an important project? And another question, why they didn't think much about the actor whowould play Captain America? I am not sure about the director, but Ihave had a name in my mind from the beginning and he is Chris Pine! What a coincidence that both of the actors' name is Chris. At thispoint, I have to say that I like Chris Evans and hearing some newsabout his reactions towards the negative criticisms saddened me and Iknow that we, you, whatever, like him too. And I have to say anotherthing, as you know, Chris Evans played another super hero before inFantastic Four, Johnny Storm which creates another problem itself, because simply it is a bad idea, but what I am going to say at thispoint is that he was great as Johnny Storm, the chemistry between Evansand his character was flawless. In Captain America, I couldn't buy himas Captain America and believe me it was a really bad thing! As fordirection, the production quality, technical quality, art directionetc. are outstanding and if you say if an entertainment movie is reallyentertaining, that's enough, that's OK, but don't expect a ByranSinger, Tim Burton or Ang Lee. And the negative hype about the actionis partly true. I couldn't see any great action scene here. The actionis satisfying, yet standard. It doesn't leave an impression on you. Asfor the problem with the script, this is may be the biggest problem ofthe movie, the movie has a very long introduction which is good, but ashort and fast development and conclusion. This has a negative effecton action either unfortunately, because you know, if you focus on theorigin story too much, then you can't find a lot of time for action andadventure or Captain's powers. Tommy Lee Jones just shines in the movieand with cliché terms, he steals the show in the scenes he appears. There is not any problem with Hugo Weaving and his villain too. May bethe only problem is that we can't learn much information about hisbackground story, but it is fine. One of the good sides of the movie,at least for me is that the movie is not a propaganda movie (there is abig difference between heroism/patriotism and propaganda) or it doesnot try to give the audience some political messages and it is not apopulist movie like "Battle Los Angeles" for example, I loved this, Iappreciated (I don't know is it important for anybody but) As for somedetails, I know, they had tried to make the costume realistic and theydid, which is not a bad thing, but as a person who seriously givesimportance to costumes and appearances, I didn't like Captain America'scostume very much. Yes, I don't hate campy or kitsch super herocostumes. In conclusion, the adaptation might meet the original work interms of production and entertainment, but not in terms of spirit.
Awwwwwww.This film was really boring and bad.The film has a great startbut didn't maintained it till the end.The best part of the movie isjust a single quote "The weak know the value of strength" thats whatI've liked in this. The main backdrop of the film was a good script andscreenplay. When we are watching the movie,we feel like years passingthrough.I'have expected so much. But it has nothing but the greatstart. And was not a good start for The Avengers.Thor was lotsbetter, interesting than this.Thor should be the first avenger.CaptainAmerica was bad stuff. Please don't go for it Marvel has manyheroes.Better to watch spiderman series than watching this. The filmshould be better than this
...It wasn't as bad as the one made in 1990.The main problem with this is the villains. The villains in this movieare no challenge to the Captain at all, all throughout the movie hekicks their ass and The Red Skull just runs away throughout and hides. At the end of the movie there is a trailer for The Avengers Movie thatis currently being released in 2012. I will definitely watch it beingas that Joss Whedon is involved in writing. It is 1942, America has entered World War II, and sickly but determinedSteve Rogers is frustrated at being rejected yet again for militaryservice. Everything changes when Dr. Erksine recruits him for thesecret Project Rebirth. Proving his extraordinary courage, wits andconscience, Rogers undergoes the experiment and his weak body issuddenly enhanced into the maximum human potential. When Dr. Erksine isthen immediately assassinated by an agent of Nazi Germany's head of itssecret HYDRA research department, Johann Schmidt aka the Red Skull,Rogers is left as a unique man who is initially misused as a propagandamascot. However, when his comrades need him, Rogers goes on asuccessful adventure that truly makes him Captain America and his waragainst Schmidt begins. Now if you want a pure fun ride then my opinion is go for it however ifyou want a movie that is "Marvel's Best" then take a look at somethingelse, this is not Marvel's best but that is just my opinion.AVENGER PREQUELS IN MY OPINION FROM BEST TO WORST 1. Iron Man (Rating:10) 2. The Incredible Hulk (Rating: 10) 3. Iron Man 2 (Rating: 9) 4.Thor (Rating: 7) 5. Captain America (Rating: 6)
If you've seen the awesome Shekhar Kapur film Mr India (1987), don'tbother watching Captain America, you'll realise fairly early on thatyou already know what's going to happen. This is a work of pureplagiarism. America has stolen yet another great Hindi story. Perhapsnot on the same scale as say INCEPTION, but galling none the less.Whilst I'm sure that this film does have it's uses (assistinginsomniacs for example, or perhaps the case could be used to replace abroken one from a good film), there's just so much more you could dowith an hour and a half of your life than watching a cheap rip off.For those of you who haven't seen or got a copy of Mr India and do havea copy of Captain America, please don't hesitate to incinerate anddispose of it before rushing to the shops to buy the real thing.
Since the release of Iron Man in 2008, Marvel Studios has been slowlymoving towards assembling it's various superheroes in the upcomingsuper group film, The Avengers, to be released Summer 2012. The lastpiece of the puzzle in introducing the key members comes with therelease of Captain America: The First Avenger, the oldest Marvelsuperhero, first introduced in comics in the 1940s. The film enjoyablykeeps that original setting as part of Captain America's origin storyin this film, and proves to be a solid, if not very inventive, introductory tale to Captain America. As previously stated, the film is set in the early 1940s, where SteveRodgers (Chris Evans), a 99 pound asthmatic, has tried 5 times toenlist in the U.S. Army, failing each time due to his health. Duringhis last attempt, he catches the eye of Dr. Erskine (Stanley Tucci), aGerman scientist that escaped Hitler's Nazi Germany to bring hissuper-soldier serum to help the U.S., designed to genetically enhancean army recruit to give him impressive strength and agility. Rodgers issuccessfully transformed by the formula, but a German spy kills Erskineand destroys the formula, leaving Rodgers as the only super-soldier tobe produced. When the commanding officer of the super-soldier program, ColonelPhillips (Tommy Lee Jones), wants to send him to be studied forreplicating the formula, a U.S. Senator gives Rodgers an opportunity tosupport his country, but as the central attraction of a rolling U.S.War Bond tour, where the moniker Captain America is coined, as well asseveral staples of the Captain's outfit (the mask, a shield). When thetour takes Captain overseas, and a chance opportunity comes about tosave his best buddy, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), from a POW workcamp, Captain America takes on the challenge single-handedly, rescuingsoldiers who end up forming the core of his team, the HowlingCommandos, and also coming face to face with a villain far worse thanHitler: Johann Schmidt (Hugo Weaving), also known as the Red Skull, whohad used Erskine's serum before it was perfected, and while it gave himstrength also, it has led to facial deformity that looks like, well, aRed Skull. Schmidt has hatched a scheme that will see him conquer theworld with the power harnessed from an ancient artifact, and themilitary chooses to loose Captain America and his team to take Schmidtdown.Captain America proves to be somewhat unique visually in context withrecent comic book adaptations, set in the 1940s America and Europe, with a gorgeous looking style to it that differentiates it from thecrowd. Director Joe Johnston, who directed The Rocketeer in the early1990s, captures much of the same feel as that earlier film, brimmingwith a sense of timelessness of that era that proves charming. CaptainAmerica also capitalizes on the patriotic energy from World War II andembodies it in the character of Steve Rodgers, which almost seemsimpossible to imagine coming from any political climate since then. Overall, however, Captain America is generally a by the book comicorigin story film, moving through the standard paces of this tale:introduction of the character in advance of his transformation of asuper hero, set up the changes of him/her to their eventual alter ego, revelation of the villain with a connection to the hero, then a seriesof set pieces that lead to a showdown against the villain. CaptainAmerica doesn't really deviate from the path too much, but while itwon't win any awards for originality within the comic book standard,Johnston and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, stilldeliver a solid entry in this sub-genre.Captain America does suffer a bit with its secondary characters, especially Rodgers friend Bucky Barnes and his other Howling Commandos, portrayed by reliable character actors such as Neal McDonough and DerekLuke, but they are all given the most minute amount of development, providing very little impact to the narrative at large, merely fillingin parts of the screenplay that needed to be present, but living on theperiphery of the story. Also, while Red Skull is one of thecornerstones of Marvel's pantheon of villainy, as presented here, hehas a nice degree of James Bond-esque world domination to him, butdoesn't come across as a villain that you can really develop a strongdesire to see put down. Again, as with other parts of the film, he ispresented as throwback to an earlier era of storytelling, but isn'tquite as strong as expected.Captain America is helped along by some good performances from its maincast. Chris Evans gives Rodgers a strong sense of patriotism and abelief that he must step up to help his country, mixed with naivetéaround women that gives him a nice streak of innocence. Unlike TonyStark from Iron Man, Rodgers is very much a straight arrow with goodintentions, and that feels right for the time the film is set in. TommyLee Jones practically steals the show with his delivery of the dialoguewritten for Colonel Phillips, using his personality best made famousfrom The Fugitive to give Phillips a degree of cynicism, but with goodintentions beneath the curmudgeonly exterior. Haley Atwell gives herbest interpretation of a Katherine Hepburn-like heroine from that era, although admittedly perhaps a bit too modern to be completelyrealistic. And Hugo Weaving provides the reliable over-the-top, but nottoo ridiculous, turn as Schmidt, making the Red Skull an appropriatelymegalomaniacal vibe.Captain America works for the most part, albeit falling a bit short ofthe top tier of Marvel movie, such as Iron Man. It is a good filmoverall, perhaps not groundbreaking, but still a nice introduction to acharacter that should live in The Avengers film and several sequels foryears to come.
With the imminent "Avengers" movie coming next year, only one hero'sorigin story remains untold until now. Falling in line with "Thor,""Iron Man," and "The Incredible Hulk," "Captain America" showcases therise of Steve Rogers as the title character. Unlike the other films, which take place in modern times, this one goes way back to WWII,showing the Captain kicking Nazi butt! With a lot of "Wolfenstein"style occult mystique and a slight "Indiana Jones" sense of adventure, this movie has a number of solid action sequences, and plenty ofimaginative special effects and setpieces. With its references tovarious characters and concepts of other Mavel movies, it fits into thefranchise really well. It might take some stretch of the imagination tobelieve that Nazis could be this futuristic, but for a superhero movie,it's all good fun.The story in this case is pretty solid. The main character shows strongdevelopment, and for most of the movie, you really root for him. There's nothing more thrilling than watching the underdog getting theupper hand. As it goes on, much of the character drama and storydevelopment gets pushed aside by the action, but it still works. By theend, voila, we have the lead-in for the "Avengers" film.If there's any complaint for this film, it's that there could have beenmore. Whether it needs a stronger action setpiece or a more invokingsense of drama, I'm not sure, but something seems missing, and nothingreally makes this film stand over any of the other superhero films thathave come out so far.The film is competently made, with decent (but never exceptional)photography. Editing is good for the most part, but I am not a fan ofthe montage in the middle of the film that makes the entire warcampaign whiz by. A couple of action scenes seemed a littlesloppily-edited, but it's hardly noticeable. Acting is swell; ChrisEvans is surprisingly strong as the main character, and I enjoyedHayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, and HugoWeaving in their roles. Writing seems pretty good. Production value ishigh, featuring lots of good (if not overly-slick) sets, props, costumes and special effects. Music is appropriately upbeat andadventurous. In the end, I'd say the film met my expectations, butnever fully exceeded them. But it, along with an all-too-short sneakpreview after the credits, provide the necessary bridge to the"Avengers" film.Recommended.4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4/5, film: 4/5)
It's been a long road to a major motion picture for the good Captain, with many potholes along the way. First, there was the 1944 RepublicStudios movie serial, starring Dick Purcell, with little identifiablefrom the comic (the script had been created for another comic bookcharacter, probably Fawcett Comics' Mr. Scarlet). Then, there were twomade-for-TV movies (pilots for a series), starring Reb Brown, whichdrew on more elements, though suffered from budget and lacklusterwriting and directing (clear plexi shield didn't help). The 1990 21stCentury production, starring Matt Salinger didn't even make it totheaters in the US and is a textbook case of no money, poor direction, and bad producing. Finally, we have a Captain America film with abudget and a definite connection to the source material; and it'spretty darn good! The cast are universally excellent, with Chris Evanshaving the hard task of playing a good, honest, determined hero. That'sa lot tougher than a villain or more flawed person. Evans lets youconnect to Steve Rogers the man, so you cheer for him when he becomesthe hero and symbol of a country at war with evil. We share hisfrustration when he is held to a propaganda role. We cheer as hesmashes the bad guys with his mighty shield. We keep hoping for him tofinally land the girl. The first half of the film is brilliant, detailing the origin story.Steve is a man determined to stand up to the bullies of the world, nomatter how many times he gets knocked down. We see him get his chanceand prove his mettle, even before he receives the super soldierformula. The film hits every note perfectly up to the point where hedefies orders to undertake a rescue mission. Then, the chief flaw ofthe film comes to the fore. The studio was so determined to lead into Avengers that it sacrificesthe second half of the film and plots for potential sequels. Themontage of attacks by Cap and the Howling Commando demands to beexpanded further. It feels like one or two more movies was truncatedinto about 10 minutes, then a mad rush to the climax. Joe Johnston wasworking the same brilliance he displayed in the Rocketeer, until he'sforced to kick the film into overdrive. It's not bad, but you feelcheated out of scenes and time with characters, especially Bucky. Wereally get a Cliffs Note version of their friendship, which makesBucky's apparent death less impactful. The Howling Commandos are alsocheated of time to connect to the audience. All the actors do greatwork, with a few scenes and lines (Thor had the same problem with theWarriors Three). The film is still quite good, but could have been great, given somemore time. As it stands, it still rates above the rest of the MarvelStudios films, except possibly Iron Man. Here's hoping that Avengerswill pick up the character and give the audience more time with him, without feeling like half the story was left for another time.
Let's start with the good stuff first. The basic Captain America storyis a good one and makes for a solid movie. Marvel ALWAYS does well withcasting, and it's flawless again here. Evans, Atwell (wow), and Weaving(Elrond) are all spot on, Jackson in a limited role and Jones are alsogood if not at this point overused. In my opinion Stanley Tucci stealsthe show in his early appearances as the gentle scientist who prefersthe spunky but skinny Rogers for his project. And the CG action sceneswhich crop up during the movie are a little more realistic than thecut-action/rock video Michael Bay style, where you can't even tellwhat's going on most of the time. It also does well in projecting theWWII atmosphere. That being said, this movie suffers from two majorflaws shared with other Marvel entries - it's TOO DAMN LONG and it istoo derivative in its story line. These movies really don't work atover 1:30, it often seems like there's filler thrown in to stretch thetime for network resale (or whatever the reason is). There's verylittle flow from one scene to another. And the plot turns are almostformula at this point, this one has elements of Spiderman I & III alongwith some Star Wars and Lord of the Rings thrown in. Maybe II will bebetter, I'm not giving up on this yet, but they need to step it up alittle. Given a 7 just because this had the potential for a 9 or 10 butdidn't hit the spot.
First, and perhaps most importantly, remember -- it's a comic bookcharacter  bigger than life, written at a time when America neededheroes in every size, color, shape and gender  and this is one of themost likable heroes of all time. He's the skinny weakling, brunt of theplayground jokes, Mr. Nobody makes big. He has just one dream, to kickHitler's ass, to serve his country, to be a part of the war effort likethe playground buddies he is losing to the war  but he can't get intothe military, and is a 3 time 4F failure at enlisting until a scientist(Stanley Tucci) Abraham Erskine recognizes his greatest asset, hisheart. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) has the heart and soul of a hero andis recruited into the super-soldier experiment to become CaptainAmerica  a muscular and cellular enhanced super fighting machine. However, to his chagrin, his first assignment is to "wear tights" in asilly super hero costume and be a walking talking breathing ad campaignfor war bonds  the money used to fund the war is as needed as soldiersaccording to higher ups but upon learning that his childhood friend istrapped behind enemy lines that all changes and Captain Rogers comesinto his own as a warrior  fighting for truth justice and the Americanway  cliché and the movie is cliché but that does not detract from itsbroader appeal. Everyone needs a hero ÂThe strength of this film is the hero  local boy with a great heroesheart makes good on promise to kick butt in Germany or some such  hedoesn't even need the fancy equipment the magic vibranium shield or thesuper motorcycles to win our hearts  he did than when he threw himselfon a dummy grenade in training and showed everyone what a real hero ismade of. I wish they'd had more character development between Rogersand Hayley Atwell (his main squeeze) because she did an outstanding jobas a 40s bombshell in uniform  and they could have used less fighting after all, and again, we were already won over to him in the first 15minutes  he had nothing to prove to us  fall in love, kill Hydra Âthecreation of a failed experiment by the same doctor that created CaptainAmerica - (the great and gruesome antagonist played by a heavily madeup and unrecognizable Hugo Weaving) and come home to live happily everafter but and no buzz kill here, the ending leaves a perfect prequelset up (what a shock) perhaps for next year's Avengers? Always yummyTommy Lee Jones plays the gritty General who is expected to make thescrawny kid into a soldier and as always he plays his role withbelievability, wit and his fabulous southern drawl  again I wish wecould have had more interaction between Rogers and Jones. Nevertheless,Jones role helps the whole thing gel and he is no matter his age, rawmasculine eye candy. The storyline is good  not great  but not a wet comic book  veryretro and very rah rah rah red white and blue but it's a comic book Âif you see it with that in mind you'll enjoy it - it's worth the $10bucks for an afternoon of escape at the local mallThe directors and writers do an excellent job of tying the beginning tothe end and following a story line  flows very well and does not leaveyou wondering what just happened  the writers did a good job  notgreat  this is not an award winner but is good solid enjoyable filmmaking and perfect summer entertainment for the kids and the kid inyou.
In the days of WWII, ninety-pound weakling Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) becomes Captain America when he is injected with a super-soldier serum, just in time to save our grandfathers and grandmothers from the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). This is one of the more successful Marvel Comics adaptations to date. Director Joe Johnson does a great job of creating period atmosphere and a grand war-time adventure. Evans projects the ideal blend of sincerity and naivety both as Rogers and Cap. I'm glad they resisted the temptation to turn him into a smart-@$$. Some exceptional CGI is used to shrink him down to an emaciated youth for the origin story; it's absolutely seamless and perhaps the most successfully subtle use of computer graphics since Gollum in Lord of the Rings. Weaving makes a great Red Skull; I hope they find a way to bring him back for a future sequel. Tommy Lee Jones and Hayley Atwell provide excellent support in pivotal roles. This is the final stepping stone on the path to The Avengers movie next summer. Bring it on!
It was kinda a true letdown, a 7.1 usually means a pretty decent movie, well this one isn't.I won't go into any specifics, but would point out all that makes thismovie a disappointment.1. The enemies feel like those in the "A-team" TV show. They don't formany challenge, they are just in the way, all you need to do is shovethem away, it is that easy. Basic rules like, take cover, don't runaround in the open they have never heard off. It was like watching oneof those childhood action movies, only those had better action.2. The jokes... Dear God, even in life and death situation, when everysecond counts, the directors couldn't resist having the actors spit outsome lame punchline while the action pauses for a few moments. Moreannoying than humouristic. 3. Plot and relationships are too simplistic, too predictable.4. Would like to point out again, the action is bad, because theenemies are too dumb for their own good. It's like watching the bestfootball players in the world playing a game against your grandparents. This is one of the worst Marvel Movies I have seen, and I hope thisisn't an indication of what the next Avenger movie is going to be. Istill can't understand why this movie got a 7 on IMDb. Blows my mind, Ithink it has something to do with the name of the hero and his costume,I mean I would love this movie if his name was Captain Holland, thatwould be hilarious. :)
Marvel has another ace property in their string of successfulcomic-book adaptations and Captain America is one of them. A fine pieceof action, drama, political intrigue, and most importantly of all, heart.Chris Evans is simply incredible as the Star Spangled hero of fabledtimes; times that were at once innocent. But it was also a time ofgreat economic chaos and war. Brave men and women were called upon intheir country's greatest hour to fight against oppressive regimes inforeign lands. Many heroes have lived and died, but Captain Americalived to fight another day. And even still, he continues to do theright thing. He didn't enter the war to kill Nazis, he instead foughtfor what he believed in and doing the right thing. In essence, he's theliving embodiment of humanity. What I like best about the film and what sets it apart from otherMarvel films is that it takes place during WW2, giving viewers a senseof history and context. At a time when America was down on it's knees, they looked to someone who could lift their spirits. And Cap fits thatvoid. Unlike Superman who came from a alien planet, Cap comes from ourworld. And it's a world that we can really relate to with a sense ofverisimilitude that makes you believe that he can(like Batman) exist inour world. The plot stays true to the comic book series while also having a pulpatmosphere to go along with the proceedings but it never goes overboardor diminish the overall story. Some say that it plays a little too muchlike a spy thriller; it does but it suits the story as the heroes andvillains engage in various covert operations that don't seem out ofplace. I also like the historical and retro-futuristic weaponry andtechnology in the film and it's really fun to see it in action. But I'mreally surprised to see some dark violence and references to the occultin Captain America. For all the time of reading about history, I'venever known the Nazis for engaging in the supernatural. All that aside, it's the acting and writing that makes this film. HugoWeaving is simply awesome as the villainous Red Skull. Despite being abad guy, he's surprisingly charismatic and a bit humorous albeit with adeeply dark edge. But I don't root for him to succeed as always I wantgood to triumph over evil in every way. And thankfully Cap and co isthere to shine that Star-Spangled shield in his face and his cohorts. There's lots of action, but it's never OTT. It's a mix between thefantastical and the realistic which is a nice touch and Joe Johnstondoes a great job of handling it all.So for all the Marvel films that have come out this year, Cap is one towatch, not only for it's hero, but also for what he represents to themodern audience which in context reminds us that despite being afictional hero, what he symbolizes is a reminder that there's a CaptainAmerica in all of us.
CAPTAIN America. is that rare film that makes you feel good. the storyfollows the comic book. The Story is this. 1943 America is at war andthe United States government is banking every thing on the SuperSoldier formula. Steve Rogers is the test subject who was selected outof a small group of men to test the formula. The Serum works and Rogersbecomes the world's first American Super soldier. Then a German spykills the inventor of the serum and Rogers goes after the killer whenhe does so in public and pictures are taken of him the Governmentdecides he would be more useful selling War Bonds on a USO tour. Rogersis angry because this is not what he believes he was given the supersoldier serum for. Then he finds out a friend of his Bucky Barnes istrapped behind enemy lines along with most of his unit. Steve Rogersnow code named Captain America disobeys orders and rescues Bucky andthe Howling commandos. once he does this the government sees the worthin him fighting the battles that need to be fought. His greatestchallenge is the evil mad Red Skull who was given a earlier version ofthe serum which disfigured him and gave him immense power. The rest ofthe film is the conflict between the Red Skull and Captain America andhow Cap is trying to stop the Skull's ultimate plan to destroy theallied forces. It Ends up with Captain America defeating the Red Skullonly to be thrust into suspended animation for over 75 years and whenhe awakes it's to a strange new world. Not a bad movie I enjoyed itgreatly,Chris Evans proved to me he can carry Captain America's Shieldand Hugo Weaving oozes evil as the Red Skull. Tommy Lee Jones gives astrong performance as General Chester Phillips. The movie's biggeststrength is the fact that it adheres to old style film making values itfelt like watching a old style action film from when they really didknow how to make films. Joe Johnston is a old style film maker right upthere with John Ford and Howard Hawks and he never seems to get thecredit he deserves. With Captain America he makes his best picture yet.The film's moral is believe in yourself believe in your country andnever give up. Something we can still believe in today.
I knew Cap wouldn't let me down. Marvel has done it again with theirlatest superhero offering. Captain America is one of the best filmsI've seen this year. Along with Thor it's one of the best comic bookmovies to come out this century. Seriously I really loved this film. What Marvel have done with whole Avengers story tie in is brilliant!Just like the comics, if you haven't watched any of the other Avengermovies, you won't necessarily be lost, but you'd have a better idea ofwhat's happening and what's about to happen if you have. Chris Evansdoes a great job at playing Cap. In fact it's a very human portrayal ofthe superhero. Not only was he physically up for the role, but he alsodid a good job of handling the emotional scenes. Evans has always beena capable actor and he's much more likable than the unfunny RyanReynolds. There were questions about his involvement in this moviebecause he recently played Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four movies. Butseeing how Marvel has killed off Johnny Storm it only makes sense toplay this character. He's an actor I'll continue to lookout for.Supporting cast was perfect. Tommy Lee Jones hardly ever puts a footwrong and was great as the grumpy but funny colonel, Toby Stephens doesa great job, Dominic Cooper whose becoming one of favourite Britishactors does a fine job as Howard Stark. Shall I go on? Stanley Tuccijust goes from strength to strength with every role. A character actor, who can do anything and play anyone, he was also great as the doctorwho administers the Super Serum to Steve Rodgers for him to becomeCaptain America. For Hugo Weaving it was business as usual. The manknows how to play the villain and does (you guessed it) a great job asRed Skull. Even Hayley Atwell whose been targeted as the weak performerin this, does a job here. Neal McDonough, Derek Luke and Sebastian Stanalso offer reliable support. So as you can see I have no problems withthe performances. Great set pieces, which include good old solidfisticuffs fight between Cap and Red Skull at the end. Explosions, lotsof them. Gun fights and motorcycle chases. All of which are well filmedand well choreographed. Great story and plot give this film an IndianaJones feel. Watch the beginning and you'll think Raiders, for sure! Thespecial effects used to make Chris Evans smaller were brilliant. Attimes I honest thought he'd lost weight and shrunk in size. JoeJohnston has redeemed himself after the dreaded Wolfman and has givenus the same kind of adventure and cinematography he showed us in movieslike Rocketeer and Hidalgo. Yes, this is a good movie! Is it perfect? No? Only problems I had are nitpick things. It would've been nice to seeCap being trained as a soldier after he received his abilities. Insaying that we are never fully told what Cap was capable of. In sayingthat, in some scenes he makes it evident, that his physical attributesare enhanced to peak of human potential. So says Wikipedia. Scenes dragin places but not for long. Visual effects looked choppy but only insome scenes. Other than that, I had no other problems with the film. Uniform looked great, visually 1940's New York looks brilliant and thestory ties in nicely with the Avengers movie. All in all it?M)s a great film and I'd definitely go and see it again.Worth the release and a DVD/Blu-Ray purchase.
