Four friends coming back from a concert break down and tell each other three scary stories around a campfire to help ignore the cold night air. The first about a newly married couple in an RV who are attacked by some sort of werewolf (we can never tell), a little girl alone for the night who is stalked by a psycho she met over the internet, and a young man who stops at a strange farm and falls in a time-loop with a girl who was murdered by her father. Excellently made, this looks a little cheap during the first tale, but builds up suspense and packs a great twist ending you're not ready for. The opening sequence just proves how stylishly slick this is.
After running off the road, four young people build a campfire in the ruins of an ancient church building. It's the perfect setting for them to spin three tales of terror. STORY #1- A couple on their honeymoon are attacked by an eeevil creature / demon / man. Can they survive their big night? STORY #2- A little girl is stalked by a lunatic, adult male "friend" that she met on the internet. Things get ugly when the girl's parents go out for the evening, and the babysitting, older sister takes off! Guess who pays a visit? STORY #3- A man on a motorcycle winds up at a remote farmhouse inhabited by a beautiful woman. His dreams soon turn into nightmares when the horrible truth is revealed! CAMPFIRE TALES is a solid entry in the horror anthology category. It's one of my favorites... P.S.- Nice wrap-around story to boot...
"Campfire Tales" really scared me which is very difficult for a movie to do. It's about a group of kids who tell scary stories around a campfire in the wilderness while they're is broken. The second story I thought was the most creepiest of them all and gave me nightmares. I highly recommend to all who read this review to go rent it.
Campfire tales consists of 3 mini chilling stories based on suspense.. 1st story was pretty kool.. This one young couple goes out on their lovely honeymoon, but suddenly their truck / van breaks down in these rather mysterious woods.. I couldn't quite figure out what was tormenting them, shadow demons! Anyway, the ending here is quite spooky.. 2nd story is hailed as the most spookiest.. This little girl gets online and chats with her friend.. But does she really really know that it's her friend and not some possessed maniac? Hmmm.. I'll leave that up to u to find out.. 3rd story.. Hmmm.. I think this my least fave story, it does have it's spooky moments, but it is just slow at times, i must say that the girl on here is quite yummy-looking! :-) Anyway, this story is OK, but nowhere near as good as the other ones.. Bottom line, this movie is indeed fun and has spooky ooky moments, definitely worth a rental.. The very very ending was a total shock to me.. This is the best part for me...
Definitely not only for urban legend aficionados, Campfire Tales is anoften scary and always fun ride through several popular stories. It isalso a film that exceeded the (low) expectations I had. A horror film Ihad never heard or read about, a straight-to-video release (granted, the latter often presents us with a pleasant surprise, but with horrorfilms nowadays it can be all or nothing), a cast of mostly unknowns...well, I'll leave the math to you.The film proves to be an entertaining, suspenseful and overall veryenjoyable experience. The four stories are well-paced and satisfying. The only one I felt was a little weaker was "The Locket", for thesimple reason that it offers almost no explanation for its plot or thecharacters' actions; however, I still loved the tale, its atmosphereand ending. My favorite one was the third story, "People Can Lick Too"- the suspense in it is not only palpable, but also educational.I found Campfire Tales to be one of those horror gems one discovers bychance, and then goes on recommending it to everyone.7/10
I'm not much of a horror movie fanatic, but I came across this movie whenchannel surfing. It is sloppily written. From what i know, a bunch of youngpeople wreck their car, and then go to these remains of a church to tellghost stories. I didn't see it all the way through, but what I saw wasrather dumb. The only redeemable part with any morale is the one with thechatroom friend who is really a stalker and a murderer. Then there was thisone where a guy goes to a haunted house after his motorcycle conks out. Hemeets this colonial chick who doesn't say much until the very end. There'sthis psycho in the house that kills all visitors. Then the guy retreats withthe woman, and it results in some silly melodrama that doesn't gotogether. And with the twist ending...was it REALLY necessary? Sure didn't fit withwhat the story was about.I don't know what you guys saw in this movie. In my opinion, it was hastilyslapped together at the last minute. I don't get it. Sure some of what wasin that movie freaked me out, but otherwise, its an utter dud. Only forhorror fanatics. This movie gets ** out of **** but just barely. One for the fact that it wascreepy, and the Internet Stalker story which actually has good moralewarrants it a second star. But that's all its getting.
This movie starts out when a teenage boy and his friends are driving on a road telling a tale about a man with a hook. After the tale is over, the boy accidentily goes off the side of the road and crashes. Soon he and his friends build a campfire off the road and to pass the time by they tell scary stories. The stories include The Honeymoon, People can lick too, and (I sort of forgot the last tale because it was really boring). I don't recommend this movie because the tales are obvious. I gave it a 1 BEcause of the great effort put in to make it scary.
Four teens are stranded off the side of the road after a near collision, where they settle in and decide to tell scary stories while they wait for help to arrive. The first tale pits a newlywed couple against a pack of bloodthirsty creatures on their honeymoon in the woods. The second finds a young girl home alone on Parent/Teacher Night when her pedophilic cyberstalker decides to strike. In the third tale, a cross-country traveler stops at a remote farmhouse after his bike breaks down on the road. Unfortunately for him, the house is home to a beautiful girl, her overprotective father, and the ghosts of her past lovers. Though many of the scares do fall into tired Horror movie cliches, the stories in CAMPFIRE TALES are highly effective while containing a minimal amount of graphic content. They rely far more on character, mood, and atmosphere than cheap shocks or excessive gore. Each of the entries share their roots in urban legends that have been altered slightly for a new twist on the classic tales. Outside of the weak and predictable wrap-around story, the only major flaw the film possesses is in its poor lighting, which makes many of the scenes impossibly dark. CAMPFIRE TALES is an enjoyable late-90's anthology feature that some may find more entertaining than the similar URBAN LEGEND series. -Carl ManesI Like Horror Movies
This movie is so awesome! I loved it, it was really scary. I love theScream movies and all horror movies and this one ranks way up there. Itprobably helped that I watched it at midnight. If you want a real scarerent this one! 10/10
I dont know why they made this pile but it stunk beans. only the story with Glenn Quinn and the headless girl saved this one from being a total shame, because Glenn Quinn rocks and may he rest in peace
Campfire Tales is a great horror movie and it has a great cast which include James Marsden and Amy Smart!!!!! It's about a bunch of kids telling scary stories around a campfire and it has a great ending!!!!!! I would check this one out if you are like me and you like stuff like Tales from the Darkside or Tales from the Crypt or anything with stories in it then go and rent this movie!!!!!
A group of teens crash their vehicle in the deep dark woods late atnight, cold & miles from civilization, the kids decide to beat thenight out by camping in the woods, next to a warm fire & spin ghoststories to scare one another, the first one deals with creatures in thewoods who attack a couple on their honeymoon, the second is about achild killer who breaks into a 12 year old girls home while she's alone& the last deals with a stranded motorcyclist, who befriends abeautiful, though quiet & shy girl, who's father being long dead, stillhaunts the place & isn't happy about the trespasser. Add a wrap aroundstory about an escaped mental patient with a hook for a hand (You allknow that story) & you've got a gross, creepy & always entertaininganthology, with plenty of atmosphere & suspense, the stories all have agross or twist ending to each, so horror fans should find this mildlyentertaining, never saw the climax that we got at the end comingeither! ***1/2 stars
Campfire Tales would have to be one of the geatest horror movies not only does it have some our favourite urban legends in it it also has a great ending I recommend this to all horror movie fans but don't start watching it thinking it will be crap start watching it with an open mind and just appreciate it for being a simple and fun horror flick
Campfire Tales isn't a well-known movie. I only discovered it by running out of choices in the movie store, and just happened to pick it up-didn't have anything better to get sort of thing. I was delightfully surprised at how entertaining, and down-right creepy this rather cheesy flick was and at how clever the plot is drawn out. 4 friends, 1 couple and a brother and sister, crash their car off on the side of the road, and decide to flare up the street around the site of the accident, waiting for help. They discover a run-down, deserted old-fashioned church, and decide to light a fire within the church and sit-out the waiting. They soon decide to make the time go by faster by telling well-known urban legends. The first story is about a young, newly-wed couple camping out in the woods for their honeymoon, however are soon attacked by devilish, werewolf-like monsters throughout the night (where the heck am i gonna find some m'm's?). The second is about a young girl, who, while her mom is at a parent-teacher conference, discovers she is not alone in her big, dark house after all (people can lick too), and the third is about an adventurous biker who, recently hitting the road, runs out of gas and stops for the night at an old manshion, looked after by a beautiful young girl. He soon finds out that looks can be deceiving and discovers the grisly horrible truth of the pleasant-looking houses' sinister past. These stories are all very scary and creepy, but the big finale of a shock is awaiting to explode at the end of the 3rd. GREAT FUN!!!!
Hmmm...teenagers hear scary stories...later they "realize" that they have been dead all along and that the whole night has been a mirage...yes, this is an excellent premise...only it's a premise copied straight from "Tales From the Hood!" Only these stories were so whack and boring that they weren't even scary. If you REALLY want to be frightened, rent an original like "Tales/Hood" and be pleased. If you want a watered-down pseudo suburban FARCE, waste your money and buy or rent this.
I would like to say that I absolutely loved Campfire Tales! To me, itwas one of the original horror flicks with a twisted ending. As if thecontents of the movie weren't scary or weird enough, you have theending. It's a very awesome movie and I'm so happy that it's beingreleased on DVD on August 30th.I will not hesitate to get my copy onthat day.I don't think the movie received all the credit or recognitionit should have, because all these other movies came out shortly afterand was acknowledge, but if it weren't for my brother telling me aboutthe movie, I wouldn't have known. Which stinks because in my opinionit's far better than any "Scream", "I know what you did Last Summer",or any other horror for that time. So I hope that you are able to seethe movie yourself and at least be able to see the difference. I lovedit, and being a horror movie junkie, Campfire Tales was like dessertfor me!
Some say this movie is a series of uninteresting, unoriginal stories. Isay, some people are wrong. The movie neither contains a series ofnever-ending scares, nor pours on buckets of blood. What it does offeris a succession of stand-alone tales that each start out simple andslow and build to a slam-bang climax. The payoffs are worth the waits. The stories are kind of like those on the old Alfred Hitchcock Show orthe Twilight Zone, or any of their modern day relatives (Tales from theDarkside, Monsters, etc.): the thrill and suspense comes from knowingthat something very bad is going to happen very soon. Half the fun isin the waiting. As for unoriginal: check your dates. This movie wasreleased before Urban Legends, so it beat them to the punch, namely thelovers in the car with a psycho on the loose segment and the people canlick segment (Urban Legends did a variation when the roommate was beingraped/killed and the friend was none the wiser until she saw writing onthe wall the next morning). It was also released prior to The SixthSense and The Others, so the ghost twist ending was not a rip-off,either. I passed over this movie when it came out because, admittedly,I tend to be leery of horror movies with no-name casts. I came acrossit recently at a video store, and was pleasantly surprised when I readthrough the cast list again. A lot of the actors who were no-name'sthen are somebody's now (Amy Smart, who had done Cry Baby prior, wasn'tenough to do it for me, and I wasn't into Roseanne during it's originalrun, so the name Glenn Quinn meant nothing to me; thanks toNick-at-Nite, I instantly recognized his name this time round). Tothose seeing this movie for the first time now, it probably would seemlike a rip-off of the movies listed above. Just remember: it camefirst.
Campfire Tales really gave me the creeps. Even though it wasn't a greatmovie, it was very scary. I was almost hiding under a cover! This movie ischilling, suprising, and a strange tale of horror. I enjoyed it, but itscared the crap out of me! Not all that great, but pretty scary! Youshouldrent it. It is so scary! I give this movie a B.
Four teenagers crash their car and wait around for help, while waiting they deside to build a small fire and tell some horror stories. Story one involves a newly wedded couple driving around in a big camper van and break down in the middle of no where, during the night they start to hear strange noises. Story 2 involves a young girl who is staying home on her own one night, not knowing that someone is prowling around the house. Story 3 involes a man who stops off at a farm and meets a young girl who can't talk and seems to have some hidden secrets. Campfire Tales is a movie that most people would ignore but they shouldn't, it's a great and creepy movie. It's hard to talk about the stories because they are so short. I was so suprised about how creepy the movie was, the second story was probably the creepiest story of the lot. It's hard to go into detail about this movie but trust me it's gory, creepy and fun.
I don't know what you saw in this movie, but from what I know, the plot is very badly put together. Let's see, a group of young people total their car and then tell ghost stories waiting for the police in the ruins of a church. I don't know WHAT you saw in this movie at all. Sure I have to admit its scary, but otherwise, why was this done?I didn't see all of it, but I saw enough of it to convince me it was badly put together. The one good part was the Internet stalker. It did actually carry some morale for chatroom yackers. The rest of it. OK, here's the third story: A guy has his motorcycle conk out and goes to this haunted house where this colonial chick resides. She doesn't say much until the end (why was she mute anyway? Doesn't make sense). When the two get away, there is some melodramatic element that had no reason to exist but just to freak people out.As for the end. Why? Was that plot twist REALLY necessary? It was thrown in at the last second I SWEAR!
