I watched High School Musical , which I surprisingly liked, especiallygiven that I am involved with many musical type things and that is mostcertainly not a good musical. It's not even that good of a movie. ButI'm not gonna lie, I actually enjoyed the simple story and simplesongs. And then High School Musical 2 came out and I was actuallyinterested in watching it. Boy was I wrong. A terrible movie, even forDCOM standard! So I was skeptical with Camp Rock. It was clearly Disneytrying to redo HSM with younger and more famous leads. But I sat downand I watched it.Now it's not great, but its not exactly bad either. Demi Lovato ispretty amazing and a few of the other kids were okay too, like AlysonStoner and Meaghan Martin (who was good up until she had to cry andthen act nice). The Jonas brothers were a bad idea. Kevin Jonasoveracted and Nick Jonas underacted. Joe Jonas was OK as Shane (hisyelling scene with Mitchie was pretty good but I did watch this on alow quality TV) but there were parts were he was laugh out load bad(the disappointed head shake he gave Tess almost made me pee). Those reggae guys and that Lola girl were pretty useless and the worstactor was Jasmine Richards. She made the exact same face throughout thewhole movie (where she tried to look mad and clenched her mouth andshook her head. What was that?) and didn't even sing the song she'sgetting credit for. Anna Maria Perez de Tagle (yes, I did have to lookthat up) was bad at parts (where she was clearly fully awake but thentried to act sleepy) and good at others ("You're lip gloss is SO notglossy anymore!", a line which you would expect her to fail at wasdelivered so well it was the only time in the movie where I laughedwith the movie, not at). This movie would have been a lot better if it hadn't been over hyped. And not really advertised as a musical. It's more of a movie withmusic. I laughed at it more than with it but it's not the worst movieI've ever seen. It's not as good as HSM 1 but way better than HSM 2.
This movie is filled with the loveable and teen sensation, Jonas Brothers, plus some rockin' music, and teen rivalry. I totally love this movie, I've seen it like 5 times. Im fourteen, and I must say, the Jonas Brothers are un-unloveable in this movie. Kevin Jonas is especially funny with his famous "group hug" and the famous "Can you make me a birdhouse?" line. I love the relationship with Mitchie (Demi Lovato) and Shane (Joe Jonas - adorable!). Shane seems to become less of a pain when Mitchie steps down to him in the kitchen when he barged in demanding his allergy list. Anyway, bottom line, this movie is totally better than High School Musical, and its my personal fave because of the Jonas Brothers.
Lets get the main point out of the way: this is a great, entertaining, relateable Disney channel musical which didn't live up to some viewersexpectations. It wasn't outstanding but is still a must watchconsidering the rise of a new star. No, not the Jonas Brothers, butDemi Lovato.Basically, almost everyone who watched this watched it for the JonasBrothers and to be truthful, Nick and Kevin's screen time is less than10 minutes and Joe barely comes out until half an hour into the movie. The unexpected star of the movie who carries it throughout is DemiLovato. Her character is relateable and she makes you want to keepwatching the movie when the JoBros. are nowhere around. This isn't TheConnect 3's (the JoBros. band name in the movie) story it's Mitchie's(Demi Lovato). She acts acceptably in this movie but its her amazingvoice that makes her incredible (let's b realistic, she could outsingMiley Cyrus anytime if they were in American Idol). Aside from Demi, the other scene stealers are Tess'(the Sharpay wannabein this movie) backup singers. MILD SPOILER!!! It's like we're forcedto underestimate them but then later surprise u as you'll see, especially Renne Sandtrom who i hope gets more screen time in thesequel. The one you think will be a scene stealer is the mostdisappointing. Meaghan Martin overacts everything as Tess and doesn'tdeliver most of her lines right and even a 4-year old could tell thatshe was lip-syncing. Just because she might have a good voice doesn'tmean she can slack off when she has to perform it. I don't know whatthe problem was if it was the sound people or what, but if all theothers faked it well while dancing at the same time, then why cant she! Apart from that, everything was great or acceptable in this movie but ihope they get another director or make the sequel better cause even ifit was good its not as phenomenal as High School Musical and I reallywant it to be cause this is a great idea for a musical and could makenew stars that were really outstanding. All they have to do is step itup a notch! Acting: 7/10 Singing: 8/10 Music: 9/10 Dancing: 10/10Overall: Watch it! Its still good and the music is AWESOME!
This tried so hard to be like "High School Musical" and it is really lacking the heart of those films, but this is your basic Disney fair and kids will think its cute. Joe Jonas was really sexy so that justifies a viewing lol
The movie was great. Mitchie Torress(Demi Lovato) and Shane Gray(JoeJonas)didn't show ,you know..that love from HSM(A musical like from4000 years ago).It was based on music.Every character had funnyparts.Shane was a little too.....too.............bratty,but afterthat,he was cute(Joe Jonas rox! ) .Mitchie was a sweet girl,but astrong one.About Tess(Meghan Martin).....She was mean when she put herbracelet in Mitchie's things,but she was sweet for apologizing at theending......Ella totally cute..but I didn't like a thing(a small smallone).Peggy.She won ..I mean......Mitchie should've won with"This isMe".Thank you .
I've noticed that people have been nitpicking this movie constantly.Honestly, don't expect Oscar-worthy acting or amazing dialogue. It is aDisney Channel movie after all. In some scenes, the writing could'vebeen a lot better, but it wasn't too bad overall. The Jonas Brothersdid surprisingly well for their first big movie debut, as well as DemiLovato. The music is the best part of the movie, and my personalfavorites would be "This is Me" the duet between Demi and Joe and"Gotta Find You" by Joe. Camp Rock is a fun movie, despite its flaws, and it's definitely a big Disney hit. The writing was just okay, andthe acting was hard to believe at some points, but it was actuallyfairly good most of the time. The cast has great charisma, and thechemistry between Demi and Joe is impossible not to see. The music'sdefinitely catchy and has great songs and the plot is memorable andcute. Overall, Camp Rock is a pretty decent movie.
Insert sadface here. This rockin' was supposed to be so much more thanit lead on, but it really failed to deliver. I'm quite sad to say thatCamp Rock may not be a failure to Jonas Brothers fans and teenagegirls, though compared to other Disney Channel Movies, it just does notdeliver. The story starts off with Michie Torres, a girl that desperately wantsto attend a Rock and Roll camp, and subplots Joe Jonas being throw backinto his old stomping grounds before he became the hotshot that he isin Connect 3.Right in, they establish the characters of Michie as the shy girl, andthe rather rude Shane Gray. It seems that cliché character developmentonly kicks in after a few scenes, for little to no reason at all. Thework done by the actors was relatively decent, with a few smallexceptions. However, having to deal with a horrible script like CampRock, is a task in it's on. The film tries to create conflict with anenemy that nobody really cares about, or has any ill feelings for. Themark of good character development is to love your enemy. PerhapsMeaghan Jette Martin had a scene or two that was cut that really showedus that she had such feelings for her family.Camp Rock has all your normal stereotypical Disney children in it. Yourhero(in), the hero's sidekick, other friends introduced for comedicvalue, the hero's enemy, and the enemies cronies. Disney does not failto deliver an overdone plot of being ashamed of your family and howlying is bad. Blah blah blah... Girl lies, gets out casted, expressesremorse and sticks up for herself. Haven't seen this stuff in a Disneymovie before! Nope, not me! Lastly, the music. Though it is somewhatstrange that a rock star would be a hip hop teacher at a rock and rollcamp, I found that it worked for the most part. Most of the songs areforgettable at best until the finale, as many musicals are. Though, these select songs make this movie re watchable and marketable forDisney. It will probably launch *a* career...I'm quite sure it's got to be just a big Jonas Brothers promotionalvideo. I'm sure the funds raked in for this film will also beastronomical much like its musical counterpart, High School Musical. All in all, the story is boring and forgettable, but some of the songsyou'll be singing to your self after seeing the film once or twice (orperhaps 20 or so, if you know Disney Channel). Watch this once, definitely, to see if it's your cup of tea. But it didn't quite do itfor me the way HSM did it for the rest of the world.
The only reason I am giving this movie a "2" is because of the singing. The voices were very good, but the actors were not. Predictable roles:disapproving daughter, outcast, two girls ruled over by one "teenagedrama queen", the cute troubled boy, and of course, the poor parentswho happen upon giving their daughter (who is the disapproving)thechance of a lifetime. Disney movies are not what they used to be. Igrew up on the classics; Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, Cinderella,Snow White, and Aladdin. I did watch High School Musical, and wasimpressed. The sequel was a disappointment, but to be honest I onlywatched it to see Zac Efron. (a bit shallow, i know). I did watch CampRock, only because it was sooo heavily advertised and I wanted to seewhat the big deal was. High School musical was incredible for a fewreasons: Little known actors who could really act, incredible voices, although predictable it was well scripted, cute people (shallow again),and left the audience with a positive message. Camp Rock, whileincredibly predictable : SPOILERS!!!!! AHEAD:-Poor Parents tell disapproving daughter she cant go to Camp Rock -PoorParents tell disapproving daughter she can go to Camp Rock if she helpsas a "Cinderella" in the kitchen with her mom -Disapproving daughterlies and lies and lies -Disapproving daughter is friends with hottie-Disapproving daughter is found out after hanging with the "in-crowd"-Disapproving daughter is dumped by hottie -Disapproving daughter getsinto trouble by "in-crowd" leader -Disapproving daughter sings and innoticed by hottie -"In-crowd" leader is not all that tough -"In-crowd"wanna by leader sings and is crowned winner. (totally surprised by thishonor OF COURSE!)Camp Rock may have been better if the Jonas Brothers had not been apartof it. This may have been a publicity stunt, and they are just NOTactors. They can seriously sing. But COME ON! Disney has left me withtwo hours torn for me that I can never get back. If you are contemplating on seeing this movie, let me make the decisionfor you; buy a couple of songs from the soundtrack and call it good.Don't waste your time.
I recently watched "Camp Rock" quite frankly because I was bored and Ilike to keep the T.V. on when I read. I am out of the age range thatDisney tries to appeal to (a.k.a. preteens) but I figured "what theheck? let's try to get back in touch with the good old days".First off, I found none of the songs really catchy and the choreographynot quite what it could've and should've been (this from a dancer'sPOV, by the way). The ending song was especially cheesy and useless andshould've been thrown out altogether. The ending choreography was justrepetition and boring.Secondly, the acting on the part of the lead girl, Lovato, was good forDisney Channel and she could probably be seen in more Disney movies tocome. Because we all know that pretty much no Disney Channel actorsever leave the Big D. The Jonas Brothers aren't probably the greatestactors in the world and there certainly is no harm in an acting class(or two.... or three...).And lastly, the plot has been done so many times (not only Disney isguilty of this either) that it was really predictable and boring and Ifound myself rolling my eyes. Girl likes boy, but oh no! a girl whowants the spotlight! And so on and so forth.I'm sure many teenyboppers who love The Jonas Brothers, hoping for aresurrection of HSM will love this movie and have their rooms deckedout in HSM and "Camp Rock" but for the rest of us.... probably notworth the time.
Has anyone else noticed that "This is Me" is the same song as"Everywhere" by Michelle Branch? The writers don't seem to have evenmade the slightest attempt at disguising the blatant rip off. I likeDemi Lovato... I saw her live on her current tour and she's verytalented. But unless they've already paid Michelle Branch for hertune... Disney's going to have a lawsuit on their hands for that one.Not only is the chorus the same chord progression, the intro is thesame basic idea, it seems like they produced the track while listeningand comparing it to "Everywhere" as the guitar sounds, drums, all ofthe vocal production is identical. Are there just no even slightlyoriginal ideas left out there?
i THINK THE MOVIE WAS JUST FOR ENTERTAINING AND NOTHING ELSE.BUT i HAVE SEEN THIS FOR MORE THAN FIVE TIMES THAT WAS GOOD AND I LOVE THE STORY...GOOD FOR JONAS BROTHERS ESPECIALLY FOR JOE AND DEMI LOVATO............
It's a really boring movie.. it's like a copy paste of high schoolmusical.A girl likes a guy and then another girl wants ALL thespotlight and try to spoil their show. and the next thing you know theEVIL girl lost all of her friends or twin because they was alwaysselfish. And then , they become BEST FRIENDS with the heroin and for thenext show they are evil back.I don't get why people say that Demi'svoice is talented??????? Even I can sing like that... It's just hervoice in a high note. and, The Ultimate Jonas All girls like is theworst actor in the history of movies. Anyway, people watch it justbecause of Jonas not Demi!! So, I still want to recommend this movie toyou if you want a lullaby to sleep (just like I did).. It works likemagic!
This review is from: Camp Rock (Extended Rock Star Edition) (DVD) This was the second of a two part purchase to support an orphanage program and it was well appreciated by the child receiving it but.... I still do not know whatever became of the blanket -- it was a two-part related gift so...???
This film was made out to be the next High School Musical and itdefinitely didn't live up to that. It started off quite well, with thecliché beginning with the mum saying "Your going to Camp Rock!" Onceshe got to camp rock though it quickly went down, i thought shed madefriends with Alison Stoners character but next thing they are fighting? And shes best mates with the bitchy girl cos she told them she got hertop from China?? A bit of a lame storyline The music i think is fairlygood, Meaghan was given the worst songs i think. Too much was built upto the ending moment for Joe and Demis relationship and they don't evenhave a hug! The characters were too forced and the story just didn'thave the wow factor of HSM, overall a bit let down!
When I was about 9 my parents let me watch Grease, I find it ratherstrange that they're now all watching squeaky clean movies such as HSMand Camp Rock. I was sceptical of this movie, I dislike the JonasBrothers and find any cookie cutter pop star stuff called "Rock" ratherinsulting. I also find it amusing how they try to get as far away fromBand Camp stereotype as possible (See American pie, "One time, at bandcamp, I shoved a flute up my p****).Shaun and Mitchie only ever hold hands, once at the end, there is noswearing, and the cloest you get to a cat fight is throwing spaghetti. However, this movie, if I was 6 years younger, I would have loved. Themiming may be bad but the story line is cute, and the girl that playsMitchie has an amazing voice. The best thing about this movie was watching Joe Jonas.
camp rock was indeed a recycled version of HSM and HSM2. same plot ofcharacter just wanting to fit in, meeting a boy, realizing what they'remeant to do, and then ending with a final song. mitchie just wants tofit it and is foiled by peer pressure to lie about her identity. pooracting by that blond girl and her cronies only add to the stale-cheesehumor of this movie. so mitchie falls into their traps, whilemeanwhile, also falling into the trap of Joe (or is it Kevin) Jonas's"heartful" voice. then mitchie and Allison are framed, but still find away to perform. so that annoying blond girl doesn't get everything shewanted for once, and makes a total fool of herself (my favorite part)and then mitchie puts on a shocking performance that SHOULD have wonbut didn't, where she is joined by that Jonas brother (Joe or Kevin)and they magically sing their hearts out without rehearsal. then theboring girl with the guitar wins, and its time for the final jam jamsession. And out of the blue they all join together to sing. how HSMand HSM2 is that?? all in this together/ all for one/ now camp rock??so the excitement builds with the song, just to be let down by thedisappointing ending. mitchie and Joe or Kevin just smile and discusscanoing plans!! how boooooooriiiing!!!!! very much of a let down, especially for all those adoring Joe bro fans that practically drool attheir feet. I'm not even a Joe bro obsesser and I was disappointed. theonly reason i gave it a 2 was because of the Camp Rock song. prettycatchy!!
I think camp rock sucked. Seriously. I mean like it's so cliché & nooffense, their acting SUCKS?!Sure, songs are quite nice. THat i have to agree. But like Cliché MUCH.these are the cliché parts.A girl who have talents is too shy to expose it yet, wow SHOCKER -.-She goes to this camp where it just so happens that there is a rockstar there. SHOCKER-.- But she has to help her mom, so she lies andblah blah to people -.- Then, the rock star just so happens to hear hersing-.-She meet superficial airheads. The leader has a mom who doesn't carethen, she becomes closer to the rock star. then at the end of thething, the popular girl is "crushed" and becomes good cause she is sosad that her mom ignored her. (like hello, why THERE she becomesgood. It's not the first time her mom ignored her)He finds her, yay.
Camp Rock This move it is about a teenager with an amazing voice. Hername is Mitchie and I like the movie.I like this movie it because sometime when she is crying and no friendswanted to be whit her it feel so sad. One more thing when she issitting and play piano one guy com and like her song and her voice. The bad is that is a friend to Mitchie. She Hates Mitchie because apopular guy likes Mitchie. She does everything to make they two wouldbe angry witch other. This is abeautiful movie. I hope you all will watch this film. and Ihope you like it.
This review is from: Camp Rock (Extended Rock Star Edition) (DVD) "Camp Rock" is more like "Camp Crude." I hoped it would channel some of the energy and zest of High School Musical, but it was HSM's weak, mean-spirited shadow and lacked the Disney touch. A few examples: When the heroine reveals that she lied by glamorizing her parents to fit in, she never apologizes to the group she's deceived, no one steps forward to reassure her that bucks and bling aren't what's really important, and her Mom doesn't mind at all that her daughter is blisteringly ashamed of their family. Kids repeatedly call each other "jerk." The bad girl is shallow and just plain mean, with none of the comic genius that Ashley Tisdale brought to the parallel role in HSM. The big dance numbers that played so well in HSM's expansive cafeteria and hallway scenes are here dampened by the confines of low-roofed camp mess halls, and there's not a song you'll be singing the next day. With so many better movies out there, this is one you don't need to own.
My whole family enjoys this movie. It is entertaining and cute. It was also very resonable compared to other stores.
