This is offensive??

What a world we live in. Throughout the history of our great land andespecially in arts and cinema, depicting people who are not considered"normal" is something so taboo that we have gone to great lengths todebase these forms.Granted, Bubble Boy isn't necessarily something we should defend to thedeath (unlike Freaks or something to that matter), but it presents thegreat problem of depicting people with disabilities. I will say this:the movie did have its moments. While the overall structure of the filmwas pretty silly to begin with, the filmmakers at least showed they hada good time making this film. To me, I found it more inspirational tothe fact people like Beetlejuice, Matthew McGrory (RIP) and VerneTroyer actually had roles in this film. Top it off with a multi-ethniccast and you have yourself a rather watchable movie. Jake Gyllenhaalwas also good as the sweet and naive protagonist, giving a great homageto John Travolta's Boy in the Plastic Bubble. But the funniest momentin the movie had to be the Fabio-led cult that was like an evil versionof Up with PeopleThe Political Correctness Mafia will most likely try to strike thismovie from the lexicon of America, I'll at least say I watched it. I'mnot saying this is a great film, but at least it didn't make me fallasleep.

The item DVD Bubble Boy arrived in great shape and quickly too. It is an awesome movie. A must for all to see.

Don't Let the Stupid Name Fool You!

When I first saw a trailer in the theatres for this movie, I thought "there is no way in hell I am going to see that movie." I wasn't alone on that thought as it bombed in the box office. I can't exactly figure out who the movie was targeting. When we actually broke down and rented it we almost died laughing! The movie has the ridiculousness and charm of the director's previous film "Austin Powers, the Spy Who Shagged Me." I bought the DVD the day after I rented it. The characters and scences are outragous and ridiculously funny. I have not laughed that hard watching a movie in quite a while. We were still laughing during the ending credits. Just give it a chance, and you won't regret it!!

Oh, my.

So incredibly bad it's BAD. This movie has to fall into the catagory of 'A dog with no legs or tail.' My wife has a crush on Jake Gyllenhaal is my only defense for sitting through the whole thing which was hard enough due to the fact that the film acctually produces anti-laughter. The 1 star is for a flick actually having a character named "Dr. Phreak."

At least rent it

This is an underapprieciated gem that was poorly advertised. It has one of those "good comedy plots," because it has a busy, Mel Brooks style plot, but it has lots of comic twists that are halarious. I know the ad looks awful, and stupid, and you think this ranks down with Freddy Got fingered, the new guy, and other comedy movies that make you want your money back just for seeing the trailer. It's not. It has so many intervened comedic plots. I wish the dvd had deleted scenes, because that would be anice addition to this short film. For what it is, it's awesome. I wouldn't buy it, but I generally don't buy movies. This one is technically an average movie, but is very entertaining. Since this flopped in theaters, they shouyld have advertised this better for the video and dvd release, because it could have been exceedingly popular on home video. But the studio was probably smart, since everyone I knew had heard of it, and wanted to see it. These are kids that like Freddy Got Fingered, and they thought this was bad. This film critics hated, but amazon liked. Worth renting!

Sorry couldn't laugh

Usually I try and give movies the benefit of the doubt, I really do try. This one just didn't make me laugh. There are bad movies that you can watch and still like. Then there are movies that are so bad they make you want to cry. I didn't laugh at the movie I laughed at its attempts to be funny. Overall-Think of this movie as a vampire and me as the vampire hunter. If the occasion ever arose for the oppunity for me to hunt this monster there are several things I would do 1.Drive a steak through the movie's heart(in this case represented by a vampire)2.Cut off its head 3.Dismember the body, burn the pieces and then scatter the ashes at a crossroads so that it would do no harm to the viewing public ever again. Bottom line Save your money

not as bad as you would think.

I've read many reviews of this movie, all of which said it sucked. One Iread said that a commercial director directed it, and that he couldn'tdirect for crap. I don't think it's true at all.I saw this movie this past weekend and I actually thought it was allot offun. Seeing "jay and silent bob strike back" the previous night stilldidn't make this movie seem stupid to me (and my friends).Anyway, This movie is good if you're a teenager and wanting to seesomethingmore comical. I know us teens laugh at sexual humor and when people cuss,but this movie doesn't have allot of that, but it does have its share, andthe plot and silliness of the movie itself just makes it fun. Overall Iwould say this is a fun movie, and if you're stuck with younger familymembers or friends, it's still okay to see (parents wouldn't complain aboutit) so go out and see it! (At least give it a chance) because it's a goodmovie.

what's up?

I found this movie to be very much in the vein of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure orEdward Scissor-hands. I can see how it would not appeal to a lot of people,but just note that the performances are good and the story is cute. I reallydon't understand what all the fuss is about. It's only a movie and I for onethought it was rather fun. It was surely better than Shallow Hal! That'smho.

Genius, two fingers to political corectness!

I happened upon this movie purely by chance, hopping the cable channels, andI want to know WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS MOVIE????? It is brilliant!I was laughing from start to finish, you can't complain at jokes poked atfreakshows when we live in a world in which they exist, the actors whoplayed these roles obviously are comforable enough with themselves to take part andif they are not offended, why are you?If something is funny, like ice cream and curry, then lets laugh aboutit.This film is far more than any "teen comedy" and should not be placed inthat bracket. It is a shame that the producers feel the need to sell it byconnecting it with the painfully unfunny Austin Powers films.Some great gags, excellent casting, locations, and cool cinematography giveBubble boy is essence, and there are plenty of great in jokes.... "I needsome sticky patches" class.Great to see Danny Trejo given more than two lines and a sneer, and yes ,wholly attractive love interest. - Could you get a girl who looks more likeHeather Graham?Or a goon who looks more like Stiffler ?Or a hero who looks more likeTobey Maguire?Let me just pledge allegiance to the flag while I wait for my boner tosubside.....

Bubble Boy

This review is from: Bubble Boy (DVD) This movie is hilarious! Jake Gyllenhaal plays, Jimmy, a young man who has lived in a bubble all of his life because he has no immunities. When Jimmy's love interest decides to marry someone else, Jimmy must cross the country to get to Niagra Falls to stop the wedding. Of course, he meets many new faces and adventures along the way. This movie makes me laugh no matter how crappy the day is so if you are interested in slap stick comedy, buy it and watch it with your friends. Jake Gyllenhaal is awesome as usual. This actor's range is impressive..how'd Donnie Darko go from living in a bubble to being a gay cowboy? It is just neat.

With two overprotective parents(Swoosie Kurtz and John Carroll Lynch) Jimmy has never reallyexperienced the real world and never left his room. This all changeshowever when his best friend and love of his life Chloe (MarleyShelton) decides she is getting married near Niagrara Falls. Creatinghis own little bubble suit, Jimmy decides to set off across Americawith the aim of telling Chloe how he feels.A film about a boy who is trapped in a bubble sounds like a really badidea. With what seems like limited ideas, the story should be a brieftwenty minute sketch where he gets bounced all over the place.Amazingly however, "Bubble Boy" actually works. Lasting 84 minutes,this story is a light hearted comedy which makes the audience smile andat times produces large amounts of laughter.Gyllenhaal in the title role is superb. Proving he can do other rolesthan the dark and surreal, this actor plays a role which most up andcoming stars would reject. Playing it well though, he makes the rolehis own and he makes us care for Jimmy as we learn more about thiscaring boy.As far as support casts go, "Bubble Boy" is also lucky in that everyonepulls their weight admirably. With familiar faces like Verne Troyer(Austin Powers 2 & 3), Danny Trejo (Spy Kids) and Patrick Cranshaw (OldSchool), the film has a brilliant support cast of comedy professionals.Ultimately it is Swoosie Kurtz who steals the show though as the overprotective mother who is scared to let her son grow up.It was never going to be a particularly intelligent film, but "BubbleBoy" is remarkably funny and very uplifting. With a cast who do theirjobs better than perhaps expected, the film always puts a smile on theface and shows just how there is someone out there for everyone. Wellworth a watch, especially if you fancy a laugh.

It's HYSTERICAL!!! A MUST!!! Seriously...You'll love B-Boy

This review is from: Bubble Boy (DVD) ...I thought this movie was going to be on the edge of offensive. Instead it was motivational and very inspiring, not to mention, FLY OFF THE COUCH FUNNY! ...I laughed so hard that 2 or 3 times I literally flew off the couch. Non of us found this movie offensive(IN ANY WAY). To put it in perspective...THIS IS A MOVIE. I am a Christian and there is an obsessive Christian in this movie. I haven't heard any Christians crying about how offensive this movie is. That's because we realize it is a MOVIE. I also live in the south. This movie pokes fun at HICKS. Non of us are crying about that either. That's because...IT's a MOVIE!!! But as for the BUBBLE BOY character, he was inspiring and showed he was not going to let his disability get in his way. There's nothing wrong with that. But people just had to throw a fit. I know why, because it was a comedy and not a serious film...THIS MOVIE IS FANTASTIC AND I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO LOVES(and knows how) TO LAUGH...Bubble Boy is simply a MOVIE! A hysterically funny movie at that. It helped me get away for one night and I LOVE IT!

Man, why why why?

When I first saw the trailer for this I thought it was gonna be one of thosenot-so-stellar over-the-top comedies of lately. And indeed I was correctupon viewing it. There wasn't any major stars in it which was quite good forthis low budget film.There were many things I didn't like in this movie because it felt like itdidn't flow and was illogical at some places. for instance, how could a boy(Jake Gyllenhaal) makes friends with a biker gang, a cult group of Todd andLorraine, and Dr Phreak's people all coming together at the end to cheer onthe poor boy for his courageous efforts to win the heart of the girl (MarleyShelton) whom he met at his house for a short duration.Running a mere 84 mins, which I wanted to end faster, I really don't thinkthis movie should deserve any praise simply because it's not funny when youpoke fun at children who are immunodeficient. I'm pretty sure somepeople/critics find the movie overall to be quite funny, I on the other handdidn't. In fact, I don't know how this movie got made in the first place,let alone the drafting stage.I'm only gonna be generous in the rating only because of the busty girls atthat "500 dolla" place. 4/10

Worst movie I ever seen in my life!

I rented this movie and shut it off after an excruciating 20 minutes ofplaytime. You could tell it was awful right from the get go. What makes itworse is that they make a mockery of the real "Bubble Buy" - Tod Lubitchlife and family. Nuff said!
