This movie was hilarious and I absolutly loved Kristen Wigg. I usually do not buy movies anymore but I must own this one.
This review is from: Bridesmaids Unrated (Amazon Instant Video) The story moved slow, the main characters were unsympathetic and there were not enough funny parts to keep the movie interesting. The movie got bogged down in self pity for way too long and was depressing at points. This is not the female version of "The Hangover". For all those who said that must not have actually watched "The Hangover", as that movie was actually funny.
This review is from: Bridesmaids (DVD) This movie arrived in the specified time and was really funny. Thank you for the movie which was enjoyed by all.
Just watched this hilarious and touching comedy with my movietheatre-working friend which stars current SNLer Kristen Wiig today. She also co-wrote and co-produced it. She plays Annie, a failed bakerychef who currently works at a jewelry shop whose best friend-played byher former SNL castmate Maya Rudolph-is getting married. This friend isnow chums with someone in her new circle who has a little friction withAnnie. I'll just stop there and just say that any comparisons with TheHangover are fine as there are some gross-out humor that can be bothfunny and maybe a little too much for some tastes. Still, thecharacterizations and relationships between are real enough that onedoes care for them. And besides Wiig and Rudolph, there's plenty offunny stuff from the supporting cast with the likes of Ellie Kemper of"The Office", Melissa McCarthy currently of "Mike & Molly", and JonHamm of "Mad Men" as a jerk of a boyfriend of Annie. In addition, acouple of former SNLers in Nancy Walls (Mrs. Steve Carell) and MelanieHutsell also appear in a screamingly funny tennis match (though I onlyrecognized the latter in the movie). So on that note, I highlyrecommend Bridesmaids. P.S. There's an appearance by the Mayacharacter's favorite group that was a nice surprise especially with thesong they sang. And this was the late Jill Clayburgh's last film roleas Annie's mother. Incidentally, she hosted SNL twice during the '70s.
Where to start on this terrible disaster of a movie? First of all, fora comedy getting so much attention and success, it wasn't funny at all.If anything it was melancholic and absurd. I love watching movies, andall kinds at that, but to sit through this one was nothing short oftorture.I like Kristen Wiig. I think she's funny. This movie, however, fallsway short of expectations. The so called comic acts were nothing but aseries of crass and vulgar situations.I'm quite surprised why this is so highly rated. There must besomething wrong.
This movie was terrible! My boyfriend and I watched it in the theater, and we both walked about feeling we wasted our money! There were a couple funny parts, but the acting, language, and storyline of the movie--ALL TERRIBLE! Would not recommend this movie to anyone!
I saw the trailer for this film on TV and in the cinema, I didn't thinkmuch of it, I thought it would be rated terribly, but I was surprisedto see it rated five stars out of five by critics, so I had to know ifit was deserved. Basically single mid-thirties woman Annie (KristenWiig, also writing) who lives in Milwaukee had her bakery businessfail, losing her boyfriend and savings, and is now selling engagementrings at a jewellers. Her Mother (Jill Clayburgh) asks her to comehome, but she sticks with renting a bedroom from English siblings Gil(Matt Lucas) and Brynn (Rebel Wilson), having a sexual relationshipwith self-absorbed Ted (Jon Hamm), and being best friends with Lillian(Grown Ups' Maya Rudolph). Lillian becomes engaged a wealthy Chicagobanker, and she wants Annie to be her maid of honour, and at theengagement party she meets her fellow bridesmaids, cynical cousin Rita(Wendi McLendon-Covey), optimistic friend Becca (Ellie Kemper),overweight raunchy future sister-in-law Megan (Melissa McCarthy) andHelen (Rose Byrne), the beautiful but vain husband to the groom's boss.It is obvious that Annie does immediately like Helen, she is jealous ofher friendship to Lillian and hates that she is so perfect and snooty, and as they get to know each other this irritation grows. All thebridesmaids go to a Brazilian restaurant, and while Lillian is gonethey discuss ideas for the hen party, Paris is suggested by Annie, butHelen talks everyone out of it. Next thing you see is everyone, butHelen who does not eat meat, gaining food poisoning and becoming ill, needing to be sick or use the bathroom desperately, while at the bridalgown studio. Annie does suggest the beach house, but Helen being thebig influence drags them all to Las Vegas, but Annie being afraid offlying causes them all to be thrown off the plane after takingsedatives and alcohol. With this Lillian appoints Helen to make all theplans for the shower and wedding, and the only comfort Annie can get iscontinuing her recent relationship with friendly Irish traffic copOfficer Nathan Rhodes (The IT Crowd's Chris O'Dowd). This though alsogoes to ruins after she is offended by him about opening her bakeryagain, she is told by Gil and Brynn to move out, and she goes to livewith her Mother, but she still turns up for the bridal shower inChicago. Annie finally goes bonkers when she finds out Helen isplanning to have a trip to Paris, which she originally suggested, sherants and raves about her opinions of the up-herself new friend ofLillian's, and she is told not to come to the wedding. With Nathanignoring her, and officially breaking any contact with Ted, Anniespends her time doing nothing much but watching television, but Megancomes to find her and help her stop feeling miserable for herself. After baking an apology cake for Nathan, which he appears not to eat,Helen also comes to find Annie, because Lillian has gone missing, andeventually they get the help of Nathan to help find her. Lillianconsoles in Annie that Helen does indeed take over pretty mucheverything, but Annie helps her come round, the bride and groom do getmarried in an evening with neon lights and fireworks, and an appearanceby Wilson Phillips, Annie and Helen put their differences aside, andNathan comes for Annie saying that he did eat her cake and they makeup. Also starring Franklyn Ajaye as Lillian's Dad, Michael Hitchcock asDon Cholodecki, Jessica St. Clair as Whitney and Terry Crews as BootCamp Instructor. Wiig is really good as the one suffering and enjoyingthrough all the situations, Byrne does really convince that she is anirritating woman who is so nice and can get practically anything,Rudolph makes a nice bride-to-be, McCarthy gets many great momentsbeing the sweary, fat and over the top weirdo, and the other supportingcast members do well also. Wiig has created a very witty script whichis not only very funny in many moments, but it is also quite a touchingstory with the romantic element, and some drama included, they werecalling it the female equivalent of The Hangover, I can sort of seewhat they mean, a great comedy. Very good!
I've long believed that there's some worth and redeeming value to virtually everything, but this movie disproves that belief. Everything about this movie was worthless, and I regret that I stayed with it to the end in hopes of finding something of merit; no such luck. Don't invest time or money in this.
Bridesmaids is an extremely crude movie revolving around the life ofAnnie(Kristen Wiig)after being selected as the Maid Of Honor by herbest friend Lillian(Maya Rudolph) however when Annie meets Helen(RoseByrne), competition ensues between the two and we see Annie's lifebegin to take a turn for the worst. The movie honestly has a good cast, I was very impressed with theperformances especially Megan(Melissa McCarthy) who was the highlightof the movie for me, she is hilarious and brought a really good energyto the cast. My only critique for the acting is Kristen Wiig, she seemslike a bland actress to me, maybe it was just her character but she putme off for most of the movie. Lillian was a little boring but the restof the cast did good jobs with their roles. There were parts of this movie that had you laughing so hard, most ofwhich was because of Megan and the movies kept a good pace also. Thescript I thought was well written, the plot was creative andentertaining though a little predictable and the casting was excellentI just wasn't really drawn to any of the characters and that made themovie lack emotional depth.Aside from the movie's predictability and the lack of being drawn tothe characters, Bridesmaids is funny and had solid performances fromthe cast. If you're in the mood for a comedy, check it out
I'm not exactly sure who the people are who are giving this movie apoor rating, but I can only assume they either have some maliciousintent or went into the movie with presumptions based solely off thename. That or they just don't have a sense of humor and should probablybe experimented on by the German's (South Park reference... you'd haveto have seen it ) This movie is FUN. From start to finish, fun. It's alaugh a minute comedy usually reserved for an all-male cast butdelivered masterfully by an all-female cast. It's defiantly not justfor the ladies, men will love this movie as well. In a world full ofcomedy releases like "The Dilemma" and "Gullivers Travels", Bridesmaidsis a breath of fresh air and reminds us that some producers (anddirectors.. and writers) still care about the craft of comedy writingand take the time to make their scrip "work". They even had the time toadd some heart... for the ladies, I presume.Go see Bridesmaids.
After seeing all of the reviews for this movie, I couldn't wait to seeit. It got so many great reviews, not only from IMDb, but from myfriends. The first 10 minutes of the movie passed and I already wantedto leave. Nonetheless, I stayed, hoping that something drasticallyfunny would occur. Boy was I wrong! After realizing the movie had beenplaying for an hour, I knew it wasn't going to get funny. I walked outand got my money back (thank goodness). This was a sad attempt athumor. Yes, I realize that everyone's sense of humor is different, butI do not understand how anyone in their right mind could think thismovie was even the slightest bit funny. Not only was it not funny, butall of the attempts at "humor" were just down right nasty! I'm notprude and some of the jokes made me feel uncomfortable, and I foundmyself thinking: "Were the people who wrote this script on crack?" Oneof the worst movies I have ever seen. If I could give 0 stars I would. Please save your money for some other movie. *To all the people whocouldn't get their money back I am genuinely sorry!
"Why can't you be happy for me and then go home and talk about mebehind my back like a normal person?" After being asked to be the maidof honor to her friend Lillian (Rudolph), Annie's (Wiig) life that isalready in disarray becomes even more so. After thinking she is beingreplaced as best friend she tries too hard to compensate. Almostruining the wedding in the process. This movie has what I call the "DueDate" or "Hangover" curse. Like those movies, the first people to seeit, before the hype and word of mouth got out of control think this isgreat and hilarious. People like me who have waited a little too longand have outrageous expectations are left disappointed. Going inthinking this is the female "Hangover" I was excited. While I can seethe comparisons, it was more chick-flicky then I was expecting. Whilethis did have funny parts and I did laugh it wasn't as good asexpected. Overall, this is a good movie, but because of theexpectations I had I didn't like it as much as I thought. I give it aB.Would I watch again? - I might, just to see if it's better the secondtime.*Also try - Something Borrowed & The Sweetest Thing
While trying to walk the tightrope between raucous comedy and tenderlove story, "Bridesmaids" presents an almost exasperating movie-goingexperience.Directed by Paul Feig (veteran helmer of several episodes of "TheOffice," "30 Rock" and "Nurse Jackie" television series) and written bySNL alum Kristen Wiig - who also stars - the film tries to be thedistaff version of "The Hangover," but substitutes that picture'shilarious stupidity with a schmaltzy romcom theme.Plot has lifelong best friends Annie (Wiig) and Lillian (Maya Rudolph,SNL) planning Lillian's wedding to a dullard. Chosen as the maid ofhonor, Annie - whose personal and professional life is already inshambles - completely falls apart under the stress. Her situation is not helped by the presence of Helen (Rose Byrne, "28Weeks Later," "Get Him To the Greek"), a rich snob who is trying tobecome Lillian's new BFF. Add to this an eclectic collection ofbridesmaids, including Becca (Ellie Kemper, "The Office"), Rita (WendyMcLendon-Covey, "Reno: 911") and Megan (Melissa McCarthy, "The BackupPlan," "Mike and Molly" TV series) and the cast is set for some reallyfunny situations. The problem is, however, comedus interruptus. Just when we're on thebrink of some gut-splitting laughs, the film veers off into unnecessaryserious moments. The biggest of which involves a supposed trip to LasVegas that - literally - goes nowhere. It would have been a greatopportunity to have the girls let it all hang out, but all we get issome lame projectile vomit scenes and an explosive diarrhea sequence. Meanwhile, the constantly beat-down Annie's (Annette Benning in"Running With Scissors" only WISHED she could be this depressing) lifeis spiraling out of control. She loses her job, is treated like dirt byher love interest (Jon Hamm, "Mad Men"), gets kicked out of her ownapartment (by a pair of slobby Australian roommates) and is forced tolive with her mother (the late Jill Clayburg). She does meet a sweet Irish cop, Rhodes (Chris O'Dowd, "Gulliver'sTravels," "Dinner For Schmucks"), though, but, of course, she tries topoison that relationship, as well. In fact, Wiig is all over the maphere and seems to be trying to play every inmate character in "One FlewOver the Cuckoo's Nest." Plus, she's not really very funny, despitebeing on screen over 90 percent of the time. The only humorous character is Megan and that's probably because sheplays a plus-size semi-lesbian nympho truck driver type. Annie, on theother hand, despite the movie's attempt to justify her violent moodswings, is still someone few people in real life would even want to getclose to.Certainly not the worst film for the "Girls Go Crazy" genre - it'slight ears ahead of the "Sex and the City" franchise, for example - butneeds to focus on just what kind of movie it really wants to be.At least after 20 years, however, Wilson Phillips still looks andsounds great
Kristen Wiig is the only reason I wanted to see this movie, and she is hilarious! Of course, it had more great actresses such as Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, and Wendi McLendon-Covey. There were a lot of hilarious and disgustingly awesome jokes. Wiig plays Annie, best friend to Lillian who is about to get married. Annie is asked to be the Maid of Honor and becomes jealous of Lillian's new rich friend, Helen. Throughout the movie, Annie slowly goes crazy and constantly competes against Helen. If you want a good decent comedy, you'll love BRIDESMAIDS!!!
You have got to see this movie!! I seriously laughed so hard I embarrassed myself and was crying in minutes! Grab your best girlfriend, your husband, (maybe not your Mom or teen), and have a fun-filled night watching this fantastic movie! You can't stay depressed and watch this one!
This review is from: Bridesmaids (DVD) The whole cast is wonderful in this movie. Its funny and sentimental. It really clicked with my friends. I think everyone has been in a position like that at some point in their lives.
Show was super funny! Doesn't deserve an "R" rating, more PG-13. Ibrought my 13 year old daughter to the pre-screening and it was a greatgirls night out movie. Demographic is best suited for mothers withteenage daughters who want to see a movie together or teenage girls whowant to see a show as a group. Written by women for women. It helpsexplain a lot of issues regarding jealousy among friends and women ingeneral, but in a funny way. I highly recommend this for the mother-daughter experience. It is well worth the effort and time to go seethis well written movie. Music featured in the end is Wilson Phillipssong "Hold On" a great theme for the movie.
I saw this movie when it was in theaters and I laughed so hard my stomach hurt the next day. I literally counted down the days until it's release day. I love this movie and have recommended it to all my friends. Even my boyfriend and my little brother laughed their bums off at this movie and they don't even like girlie movies. Buy this movie, I guarantee that everyone who watches it will love it, unless they are a prude!
I think the bummer of the movie is that I went with the expectations that it was sooo funny and gut busting great that I really didn't like it. I found myself saying, "Okay, lets get moving here." Found it depressing also. The lead actress has a horrible life and bad just surrounds her and it's not funny. A couple and I mean 3, sceens were funny. But that was it for me.
OK, I'm 60. Took my wife to what I thought would be a good date night flick. Wrong! If you think women taking a dump in the sink of a hotel, taking a dump in the middle of the street, and puking in each other's hair is funny, then this is just the flick for you. Not funny. Just disgusting. We left 30 minutes in. F
