Best TV-Show ever?

My guess is yes definitely. It's a brilliant piece of art, nasty andextremely shocking. I watched the first Season and I thought, yeahwell, it's awesome, but I think Dexter is still better. Then I watchedthe second Season and was like, alright then, but I think the secondSeason of Dex was still a bit better. But then with the third Seasonand thing became sure. This Show is better than Dexter. Beter thanevery Series I've ever seen. But finally after thinking it can't getmore thrilling, the fourth Season came along and blew my mind in everyEpisode. These perfectly worked out Characters this visual brilliance, this extremely convincing story. The way this writers made you love andhate all the Characters at the same time. And of course, theunbelievable shocking events of the final Episode of Season IV thatblew my mind and left me in a numb mood that least for hours. Amazing,f***ing Amazing!

Aaron Paul Brings Power From New Generation of Actors

In general, the acting by all in Breaking Bad is fantastic. However, the quality and range of acting by Aaron Paul is truly amazing. BryanCranston is getting a lot of attention, which is expected from aveteran actor with his experience. However, it's Aaron Paul'soutstanding performance that demonstrates the remarkable capacity, among a new generation of actors, to reveal a world of extremecomplexities and harsh realities that we find in today's America.Aaron Paul's ability to bring to life these contemporary elements isthe test of any great actor, at any age. Indeed, Breaking Bad brings avaluable contribution to the realm of quality Television Theater, andAaron Paul's work here is among the finest to come forward in a longwhile. Bravo, Mr. Paul!UPDATE: Great news! Aaron Paul has just won his first Emmy for BestSupporting Actor in a Drama Series, at the Annual Primetime Emmy Awards2010! Congratulations Mr. Paul! ~ e

Stunning Comedy-Drama

I probably haven't been hooked to a TV show like I am to Breaking Badbefore. This beautiful piece of art is incredibly well written anddirected, furthermore the actors are doing a tremendous job! I've reada few remarks about the pace of the show, saying it is too slow. Icompletely disagree, there are so many aspects which get their place inthe series, every single one in its own way and it would be horrible ifwe'd see a too fast paced show containing ridiculous cliffhangers likewe see them on the major networks. Because this way you can entirelyfall in love with the show, the characters and every tiny detail of thestory and the best part of it, it is unbelievably addictive and makesyou starve for more week after week! 10/10 Kudos to Mr. Gilligan, kudos to Mr. Cranston and kudos to everyone elsewho's making a contribution to this show!

It's a bubbly crime soap

I've started watching this because some people suggested it's the nextbest thing to Lost, but I was slightly intrigued how big a differencebetween the quality of the two really is. I'm not saying Breaking Badis not good, I'm saying it's just not that good. The acting of mostlead actors is great, chemistry between them is nothing to complainabout, it's just that the show won't nail you to your seat. It goesfrom fast paced criminal action of Walt killing a drug dealer to longtalks of his wife about one boring thing to another. You couldbasically condense the show to the half of it's runtime without losingany relevant information. It's not that there isn't much going on, it'sjust that it's a talkie, it's about resolving issues, new issuespopping up, resolving some older issues, something happens, resolvesome more issues, come to a dead end, resolve other issues. I feelcheated. I was promised a show with a chemistry professor becomingcriminal, but I got a show in which as we learn, everybody has issues. It's tough to watch sometimes, so sometimes I skip through bits. Mostlythose including Skyler. That shouldn't happen - I never, not in asingle episode, skipped bits of Lost.I would recommend this show to... people who like talk shows likeOprah, who like shows like Sex and the city or Desperate housewives.Breaking bad is packed with dialog and relationship related issues.

Cranston amazes with a complicated, realistic, tragic character

I'll start off this review by saying that I quite frankly, don't watcha whole lot of T.V. I've watched some shows, namely E.R, The Office, 30Rock, and when I can rent them on DVD I find a good HBO series a goodwatch. That being said, this is the best T.V series I have watched. Itfeels almost like a friend, and Walter White is a character that I wishhe was real so I could smack him out of the path he is going down.Bryan Cranston is the heart of this show, and his Emmy award was wellearned. (for a snapshot, watch the family meeting on Episode 5-GrayMatter, some of the best acting I've personally had the pleasure ofwatching) He plays Walter White, a nerdy, withdrawn, depressed 50 yearold overqualified High School chemistry teacher who's only real passionseems to show when he is talking science in the classroom. Walt justbasically seems to amble on through an incredibly average middle classexistence (Average except for his controlling wife and Cerebal-Palsystricken son). He is disrespected by his students, his boss at hissecond job, and belittled and made fun of by his boisterous brother inlaw Hank. Walt is the ordinary, everyman hero. He struggles to makeends meet, and looks back at the past with a "what if" mentality. He isat first a sweet, lovable guy you just want to give a hug too, but hechanges in disturbing ways as he "breaks bad" Everything changes forWalt when he is given a devastating diagnosis, stage 3A lung cancer, and at best two years to live. This seems to throw Walt into a deeperdepression (a scene where he sits at his pool throwing matches in comesto mind) but what it really does, is wake him up. He proceeds to teamwith a former student (played by Aaron Paul) Jesse Pinkmann, who isalso a complicated character, much more so then at first glance. Tocook crystal meth, for the simple purpose of making sure his family istaken care of when he dies. The relationship between Jesse and"Mr.White" as he calls him is an interesting one, it is a combinationof an odd couple and a father-son thing. The two actors workbrilliantly off each other in the scenes the two share, and give somememorable lines.Cranston plays this character masterfully, he completely becomes thecharacter, from his beige, bland wardrobe, to the way Cranston usesevery aspect of his being, his facial gestures, his eyes, his hands, and last but not least, his speech to convey his characters anguish, depression, regret, but also his huge heart and "working class hero"kind of life. Walt is in my opinion very identifiable for most of us,and very likable, but his decisions aren't, and there lies the mainconflict in the show. It is a conflict in the viewer, a caring for thecharacter after seeing what he was, and hope that he doesn'tfundamentally change the good man that he was in his quest to in manyways "Break Even" with life

Amazing Demonstration of Low Budget Filmmaking

To all you independent filmmakers out there:Take a look how this show is filmed. It is so simple yet gripping. There are no moving camera shots for the most part and the camera isalways on a steady cam. No dollies involved and they use simple anglesand very few close ups. Shows like this inspire me to thinking that I can actually makesomething similar. As far as the writing, it is top notch and verylayered. The writers pay off all their plot devices and set up themequally as good. I also like how they dwell on certain scenes for 4-5minutes at a time. It creates a certain realism that emulates reallife. As far as the content, it is captivating in a sick way, similarto Pulp Fiction and other black crime comedies. My favorite part about this show is Aaron Paul and his madness. Theshow truly captures the up and down spiral of dealing drugs or doingthem. There will always be downfalls and people going to jail or dyingaround you. One minute you have thousands, then the next you're leftbroke and have nothing. Some of the best moments are when Walter and APare frantically disposing or moving drug money/paraphernalia. I lovehow they always hide sixty grand under the kitchen sink or in theirvents. A must see and definitely one of the best shows of the last decade.

Refreshingly different, and great!

This show is a mystery to me. I finished season 1 a few minutes agowhich I had started a few days back. I don't really dig "Drama" genrethat well unless it has something extraordinary to add to it, much lessthe real-life day-to-day stuff. This show, somehow, falls into thatcategory for me. But there is something about it that makes me go backto it again and again. Bryan Cranston makes you feel sorry for him, embarrassed for him, feel his insecurity, feel his stupidity, feel hisdetermination, watch him in awe and be blown over every once in awhile. Aaron Paul, from what I've seen, is just fantastic, bestcharacter apart from Bryan. This guy really pulls off the irony and theassociated comedy really well. A very different and fresh show. Have awatch. Good chance you'd like it. Pretty sure you never thought aboutChemistry this way. Cheers!

An Epic Show That Deserves More.

This series is inevitably the greatest Television entertainment thatcable has to offer. The plot line is so creative you don't know whatthe next episode will be about. With Bryan Cranston's amazing actingability and character, this show is incomparable and can never berecreated due to the amazing work of Vince Gilligan and his team. Thedramatic affect left at the end of each episode makes you crave withwonder. The episodes show so much strength and power that the next plotline would never be thought of by the most extreme "televisionaholic"and/or critic. Each episode has a certain meaning and leaves youguessing what will happen on next week's episode. There has been rumorof the series opening a third season in March of 2010, I advise you towatch the other two seasons before starting to watch the new seasonbecause, you will be very lost. But with the time brought into watchingthe seasons you will be absolutely satisfied and there will not be onedoubt in your mind that what you had watched was a waste of time. Thisis an absolute epic show! Watch it! You will be glad!

Hot Show, Hot Cast

This is a great show. First of all the look of the show is justabsolutely outstanding. It has this greenish-yellow tint to it thatmakes the desert scenes all the more gritty and hot. You can reallyfeel the heat from those scenes. The acting is without questionmovie-quality. In fact, the whole show has this movie feel that canonly be described as a mini-movie for TV (not a TV movie though). Ilove the fact the show perpetuates drama in the most ordinarycircumstances. Only The Sopranos came close to the balance thatBreaking Bad has with its story lines. Altogether, Breaking Bad is thenext greatest thing to Meth!

Best. Show. EVER!

Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all time. I am glad that I'm notalone in this belief, and it is one of the greatest misfortunes thatpeople out there either have not seen or do not appreciate this show.People often compare Breaking Bad to Weeds, because it is about aparental unit resorting to selling drugs in order to provide for hisfamily. Except that Breaking Bad is actually realistic, truly dramatic, and doesn't start grasping at straws by the time the second seasonends. The best part about the show is how organically it progresses. With other shows, transitions can seem forced, but with Breaking Bad,the entire series feels like one long season. Things that happen inSeason 1 actually have meaning in Season 4. It's also just incredible how engaging the series is. Everyone acts sowell, and the storyline is so rich and layered you get blown awaymultiple times an episode. You really gotta hand it to Bryan Cranston. If you had told me ten years ago that the Dad from Malcolm in theMiddle would be performing superbly as a meth dealer, I would'velaughed in your face. By the end of the first episode of Breaking Bad,I already associated Cranston more with Walter than Hal.Watch this show, you will not be disappointed. It's as deep andrewarding as any show can get. It's also amazing such gold would turnup on AMC rather than a premium cable network. Nothing HBO has everproduced can get close to Breaking Bad, as good as those shows are.

Excellent! Comedy, like chocolate, can be best when very, very dark.

Vince Gilligan shows how big a piece of "The X-Files" and "The LoneGunmen" was his with "Breaking Bad" - quite a large chunk, as it turnsout. He has a rare gift for getting the best performances from hisplayers, and in "Breaking Bad" he and Bryan Cranston chop some seriouswood.I've been following the series for four weeks now, and my wife and Ijust watched the most recent installment of the series ("Grey Matter")together - the first time she's seen the series at all. And herreaction was not entirely unexpected. It's like chocolate - some folks like their chocolate light, some of uslike it bitter-dark. I happen to be one of those serotonin junkies wholike chocolate dark enough that there are special numbers to measurehow dark it is.And "Breaking Bad" is Special Dark Comedy. I don't think it's writing aspoiler to repeat what the network discloses in their own televisioncommercials, so I'll explain what I mean by that. Bryan Cranston, better known before this series as the hopeless bungler of a dad in"Malcolm in the Middle," totally convinces as a high-school chemistryteacher (in a job way below his intellectual gifts - he's a serious,research-quality chemist) who must cope with a second job at a car washunder a bastard of a boss who treats him like a serf, a controllingwife, a son who he loves desperately who has a middling-severe case ofcerebral palsy... and lung cancer that has already spread throughouthis body, thus a very short life span.As you might expect, this is a man with a lot of anger, and given hissituation you can't blame him. He also has a bastard HMO who won't payfor the therapy that might save his life (I mean, gee, that wouldactually "maintain health," and you can't expect that of a "healthmaintenance organization," at least in my own experience of dealingwith cancer and an HMO at the same time).Another cross this man must bear is a gruff, well-meaning bear of abrother-in-law who is a DEA agent, and takes the protagonist on a "ridealong" as he directs the take down of a meth lab. Our terribly illchemist sees the lab, knows the chemistry involved (if bikers and gangbangers can make it, how difficult could the synthesis be for a REALchemist?)... and he sees the sort of money it would take to buy a housein a decent neighborhood for cash lying around and learns that this isnothing exceptional in the world of play-for-pay amateur amphetaminecookery. At this point the protagonist decides not to accept his fate meekly, not to let his wife and son exist in poverty after he dies slowly andexpensively... and takes the step which Milton and Shakespeare andGoethe all have THEIR protagonists make - away from acceptance, towardstepping out of his assigned role as humble victim. And thereby hangs agreat tale.To do them credit, the series creator Gilligan and his associatesdecide not to sugarcoat the choices and consequences involved in theprotagonist's decision to step out of the path leading to the poorhousefor his family. Nor do they confer sainthood or omniscience on thecentral character of the story. He screws up by the numbers, not leastby who he decides to choose as his partner in his new career asmethamphetamine cook (a choice which lends a number of seriocomictwists to the story). The series is, by turns, absurd, tragic, touching, howlingly funny, bitterly sad... it fulfills Robert Heinlein's definition of art -"inflicting pity and terror on its audience." More you cannot ask.Watch it if you like your comedy very, very dark.

Best Show So Far...

The third season has came to end, and all I can say, this is the best Isaw so far! The only show I watched beside Breaking Bad and had such acrushing storyline was Lost - but they messed it up ... Anyway, I canhardly wait the 4th season to start, till now it has wonderfulcharacteristics with magnificent acting, great storyline, outstandingphotography and a good direction. Recommended to everybody, who'd liketo watch an exciting, animated show, with lifelike and rough-and-readysituations and turns. The only reason I give a 9 out of 10, because this is not yetcompleted, not yet a finished story, but as the time passes, it getscloser and closer to it...Outstanding show.9/10.

Gripping Television, 10 stars is not enough!

This is by far an outstanding television show. Amidst a lot of otherterrible TV this show stands out. The crux of this show is Walter Whiteis a bored family man and incredibly smart science teacher who getsdiagnosed with lung cancer. To pay for his treatment and to leaveenough money for his family if he dies he teams up with an ex-studentto start making meth. And so begins a web of lies to Walt's family andfriends. This show plays on so many emotions of the viewer. We know that whatWalt is doing is wrong yet we sympathise with him because he loves hisfamily and would do basically anything for them.Bryan Cranston is outstanding as Walt. The thing that I love about thisshow is that when one episode finishes you just HAVE to watch the nextone, and they have little links at the beginning of each episode thatall make sense at the end of the season. There are so many littletwists thrown in, I absolutely fell head over heels for this show. Thecharacters all have their flaws but given all the circumstances itmakes you question what you would do if you were put in that situation.Amazing.

the best TV i've ever seen

if uve seen some and you like the general style then id say you are infor a special period in your life.when someone asked me what it is (really unknown in Europe at themoment), i said it's a bit of a genre of it's own, being a mix ofsuspense (The Unit type of thrill), and black comedy within tragedy;i.e. it has serious stuff in it as well / is thought-provoking.i really hope they will keep it up for the 4th season.p.s. id skip episode 4 of the first season though, and maybe the 3rdtoo, i don't remember about the third.p.p.s. many will disagree, but i think it's on par with The Wire, ifnot better :)

The Best Show On Television, Now or Ever

AMC has proved over the last three or four years that they have themost provocative shows on television. They have controlled the Emmywins in the drama category, letting the Big Four know that they canhold their own on the battlefield too. This is all due to their two bigshows, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, the latter of which is currently myfavorite show on television. Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston ofMalcolm in the Middle fame and Aaron Paul, as Walter White and JessePinkman, respectively. Bryan Cranston has won three straight Emmys (allthree years the show has aired) for Best Actor in a Drama, while AaronPaul finally won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Emmy this pastyear. The series follows Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher, whoin the first episode of the show is diagnosed with lung cancer. Oncehis initial shock has passed, Walter realizes that he needs to providefor his family when he is gone. While at his 50th birthday party,Walter's DEA agent brother-in-law, Hank (played by the wonderful DeanNorris), turns on the news in time for everyone to witness him bust amethamphetamines lab. Walt sees the amount of money involved andproceeds to go on a ride along with Hank. While Hank is busting anothermeth lab, Walt waits in the car and witnesses one of the drug dealersescaping. They make eye contact and Walt recognizes Jesse Pinkman, aformer student, as the escaping dealer. He later goes to Jesse's house, where they begin a partnership which becomes the focus of the series. There is not a weak link to be found in any part of this series. Neverhave I been so stunned by a television series as when I first watchedBreaking Bad. The writing, directing, editing, music, acting… I couldgo on and on. Vince Gilligan, the creator and frequent writer anddirector, had such a unique vision for this series, and it isexemplified throughout the show. The writing creates a sense of tensionwhich is escalated by the superb acting that each cast member brings tothe table. Bryan Cranston does not just portray Walter White; he isWalter White. It's stunning to see such performances from Malcolm'sfather. At its core, this is truly a story about a man's battle withcancer, and you see Bryan portray a sad indifference about hissituation. He makes such a turn as a character that you almost wouldn'trecognize Walter in the first episode as the same Walter in laterseasons. He becomes so complacent with his condition that he takesrisks he normally wouldn't and constantly shows us at every turn, thathe is truly at peace and ready to die.The supporting characters have just as much acting chops as BryanCranston, too. Aaron Paul gives an incredible presentation as a methdealing drug addict. He makes you think he has nothing to live for andnothing to care about and then at times will show you that he reallystill is a little boy at heart. Anna Gunn plays Walt's pregnant wife,Skyler, showing us a concerned spouse, already mourning her husbandbefore he is gone. As her suspicion builds as to what Walt could be upto during the endless amount of hours he spends away from his family, she begins to care less about her husband's condition and more aboutwhy he isn't spending his last days with his family. Dean Norris playsHank, the DEA agent brother-in-law, who Walt spends a lot of timeavoiding due to his newfound drug selling. Hank plays a greatsupporting character, hunting down a drug lord, who unbeknownst to himis in fact his brother-in-law, Walt. He becomes an even bettercharacter in the second season when he gets a real story arc of hisown. RJ Mitte plays Walt's son, Walter Jr., a teenager who is afflictedwith cerebral palsy. He is the most distraught about his father'scondition and has some great emotional scenes, especially during thearc where Walt is deciding whether or not he wants to go throughtreatment. Last but not least is Marie, Hank's wife and Skyler'ssister, played by Betsy Brandt. She is easily the most transparent ofall the characters, mostly merely playing supportive wife and/orsister.In conclusion, watch this show. If you have ever watched anything ontelevision, you will like it. Hell, if you have never seen a televisionin your life, you will still fall in love with this show. The characterdevelopment that results from Walt's cancer diagnosis is equallymatched by the plot twists thrown at you each episode. This is a showto best all other shows and it is truly the greatest television show Ihave ever watched.

Best show on TV period

This show is better than nearly every movie coming out of Hollywood. Those clowns that spend 100 million dollars to make crappy movies thatrely only on CGI and explosions could learn so much from a show thatlikely costs a couple million...for the whole season!!! The show hasfully developed characters, incredible plot twists, slow suspensepeppered with just enough shock and horror to leave you on the edge ofyour seat. It is also funny at times. The only bad thing is each episode is so good the time flies and youmust wait an entire week in suspense to watch again. Few shows inhistory have that quality. The only one in recent memory that was justas good and quite similar with the suspense, characters etc. was therebooted and much darker Battlestar Galactica series that ran on Sci-Fia few years ago (also called the best show on TV at that time byNewsweek, TV guide etc.). ....Two of the best shows I've ever seenhands down

Tour De Force

In the middle of fourth season I have a need to say something aboutBreaking Bad. I always had my favorite TV shows and I have them today, like it is Dexter or Game of Thrones, but Breaking Bad goes on the topof everything I watched and that I am watching. I must give greatregards to all of the crew of the show, as any aspect here is firstclass. It is rare feeling for one TV show to be that good.It is hard to be objective here, but what everyone agrees is thatacting, cinematography and music is on higher standards of regular TVwork. During first season I found its plot not just original but soinvolving and with other seasons it just become an addiction for more. This fourth season is magnificent in its way and when I search forawards and opinions there is nothing but thrills. And I agree. Even villains here are not just likable, and officials(DEA) are perceived as opposite to that. The crystal met is a very bad drug, and we all know that, but here wedon't think about it that way, actually the Art of the creators of theshow made lead us to feel positive for our heroes. I don't know muchabout drugs, I only know how met is bad, but here you have feeling thatmet they produce might not be so harmful? Never mind it is only show.I think that there are many moral issues here, and how they vaguefamily life with criminal activity is masterfully. The whole positivethinking about it (Mr. White character) is that he did that because ofcaring of his family, as he is not negative person. And character Jesseis simply adorable, even in the criminal context, yet rightful and withhigh moral in itself.I am happy that there will be one season more. This show simplydeserves to be put in the film library as a rare masterfullyachievement for TV with cult status like it is memorable Sopranos, StarTrek NG, Mission Impossible, Seinfeld, Twilight Zone and Tales from theCrypt to mention some of the best ever.

wow what a series,worth watching

First three seasons were awesome,Bryan Cranston did justice to hischaracter Walter white.Only point I dint like is skyler's relationshipwith ted(even though it was for short duration)apart from this allthree seasons are great. chemistry lecturer cooking meth to make moneyvery interesting. But I think fourth season is going out of track.....but I am waiting for what would be the end as gus and walter are tryingto terminate each other, also hank behind gus which would put walter infront of hanks gun.trust me give a try

Bad

The message that the average Joe, when he's forced to make decisions, should just take the low road is Bad. You need money, your job sucks, your life is out of control - you've got two choices: stay where youare or deal meth. You can also pimp yourself middle America or you candeal weed. You can do all these things and feel redemption somehow. This isn't how real life works and it's Bad. Will Hollywood write thescript about the guy who rises above it all by becoming a legitimateentrepreneur? Doubtful. For now, they'll stick with the detective whokills or the teacher who pimps, all to convince you this is all thereis and that it's Good. No really, it's all Bad.

Where does comedy stop and tragedy begin?

Seasons 1 and 2 have recently been shown on UK digital TV on the "FiveUSA" channel. They've packed the whole lot into about ten weeks, and Ihave been gripped since the first seconds.I've never seen anything like this, and I've never seen any series cramso much "story" into each episode. The characters, for the most part, are completely believable - you've met them all yourselves. Theiractions are completely consistent with their characters. If you canaccept Walter's initial decision to build up a cash nest-egg for thefamily he is expecting to leave destitute, then everything that happensseems to follow inevitably. There's no way back, you're at the bottomof a hole you've dug for yourself, and all the alternatives to "keepdigging" will have even more horrendous consequences.I didn't think I'd see anything better than "The Wire", but if this onecan maintain it's standard through season 3 and onwards, it may wellrun it close. "Breaking Bad" is up there with "The Sopranos" and"Dexter" as outstanding entertainment. This is very black humour, interlaced with the tragedy of both strong and ineffectivepersonalities being forced to take actions they know are wrong andreally don't want to do. Every decision, however logical it may seem, leads to a situation where yet another unpalatable decision has to bemade. It's a bit like real life.
