Miles Logan is a jewel thief who just hit the big time by stealing a huge diamond. However, after two years in jail, he comes to find out that he hid the diamond in a police building that was being built at the time of the robbery. In an attempt to regain his diamond, he poses as a LAPD detective...
of corse martin larwence maybe funny in this movie but after i watched it a cuple times i relized its not his best work i mean dont get me wrong i enjoyed the movie but it i know by heart if the directors didnt hurry to get it done it could have been much funnyer so i give this movie a grade of b+
I know that many people may not like this movie, but I thought it was verygood. The plot was very simple and unique, the characters performed well, and the movie itself was very entertaining. There were some funny andmemorable parts, including the famous oodles of noodles scene. In my opinionthe funniest character in Blue Streak was Sulley. All of his parts werefunny, and I feel he expressed his part very well. I recommend that you seethis movie before Blue Streak 2 comes out in 2002. Overall, 8 of10.
This review is from: Blue Streak [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I thought I would never find this movie on Blu ray! Clear as ever and the price was excellent! Very satisfied with this item!
"Blue Streak" stars Martin Lawrence as a thief, who for some complicatedreasons (complicated for him - not for the film viewers!) must disguisehimself as a police officer and infiltrate police headquarters. With an uninspired premise, decent acting talent, and a bad script, "BlueStreak" offers few laughs, and a predictably stupid finale. "Blue Streak" is one to be missed.2/5 stars-John Ulmer
I think Blue streak is so very funny. All-time best! The acting, story,Directing, EVERYTHING! I think everyone should watch it. I know it`s quite old, but that doesn`t keep me from watching it. It`s the best comedy ever. Mostly when i say "i love it" ppl start saying it`s wayyyyyyy to old. WhatEVER!
Martin Lawrence is a funny dude. His movies always have funny plots. The jokes are hilarious and this movie will keep you laughin for hours.Ever since his hit show he knows how to make you laugh all day.
I've watched all the Beverly Hills Cop movies, even the last and IMHOworstone. I even liked them. But I can't like Blue Streak. The plot is one long cliche built to allow Martin Lawrence to do what hedoes best, which is wave his arms and go 'Damn'. Five minutes of this isok, but watching Blue Streak is like being forced to watch three consecutiveepisodes of Lawrence's equally annoying and pointless sitcom but with somegratuitous (albeit PG-13 rated) violence. I guess we're supposed to laughatpolice beating arrestees as long as there is no blood involved. The intro is all right, reminiscent of Hudson Hawk, but already afterthreeminutes you've got the entire movie set out and you know how it's going toend. And it hasn't got any of Hudson Hawk's dry wit orhumor. The characters are unbelievable, unfriendly and unsympathic. After a shortwhile you start to wish that they'd all get into a major gun battle anddie, especially Lawrences hyper active and overplayed (and decidedly not funny)con-turned-fake-cop. The only person who was even remotely likable was theofficial 'Bad Guy' and that only because he was somewhat'normal'.Stay away from this movie. Do not watch it even if you get free popcornwithit. 3/10
This is one of the best movies I've seen this year! Martin Lawrence playedvery good and all the audience laughed loud about his jokes andacting!I can highly recommend Blue Streak to everybody who wants tolaugh!9/10!
This is tied in my opinion as one of the 2 best Martin Lawrence movies (the other being "Nothing to Lose"). Martin hides a jewel in a building that is under construction when the police arrive at the robbery. After spending 2 years in jail, he returns to the building to find out that a police station has been built there. This movie is about his hilarious quest to impersonate an officer for the LAPD and try and get his jewel back. Coupled with the hilarious Dave Chappelle, this movie is a must for anyone who enjoys Martin Lawrence, the Chappelle Show, Crank Yankers, or anything else that involves either of these characters. Eddie Murphy's replacement has arrived! If you want comedy, get this movie!!! (Don't bother with National Security, all it's good for is a few great catchlines) Blue Streak also has it's fair share of catchlines like "Belie' Daht"
With comedy, a particularly subjective genre, one man's junk is anotherman's treasure. That said, "Blue Streak" is likely midway between the "boneyard" and Southebys. The film offers Martin Lawrence, a nominally fresh andfunny script, and is punctuated with pyro, stunts, and action. Enjoyable butquickly forgotten.
If being a critic is all about criticizing then this film is onlyworthy of praise for it does a great job at entertaining the audience.Martin does a fine job at playing the conman turned cop wannabee insearching for his stashed gem in the vents of the LAPD building.Although there are occasional references to overplayed acts etc, itdoes well in being a really funny film. The action scenes are excitingand the funny-man antics of Lawrence are worthwhile watching. Thebad-guy character in the film is really paper-thin but luckily verylittle focus is directed at him in any event. This a Lawrence film, where the focus is on his style of humor. If you like the guy, youwon't be disappointed in this one. Two-thumbs up !
Like so many urban action laughfests, "Blue Streak" seems more interested indisplaying a strutting, kick-ass attitude than providing a clever,character-driven comedy. Martin Lawrence, though a likable and energeticperformer, is, alas, no Jim Carrey in the pratfall-and-mugging departmentand the film suffers as a result of it. Lawrence portrays a wiseguy burgler who, through a slew of plotcomplications, finds himself masquerading as an iconoclastic policedetective while endeavoring to retrieve the $17 million jewel he left behindin his last heist (in a building that has now been coverted into a downtownpolice station). The modus operandi of these films - besides the inevitable car chases, shootouts and, in this case, really queasy happy ending - is that, for thehipster comic's persona to work, all the characters surrounding him have tobe dumber than dirt. Unfortunately, a comedy, like this one, set in a worldinhabited by people much less intelligent than those in the audience, paradoxically, ends up not flattering us but insulting us all themore.
This movie I place in my "OK" for a fun night category. Not a movie that Iconsider making a lot of awards (and maybe it wasn't supposed toanyway)....but...Martin Lawrence is good for a laugh and there were enoughfunny lines and circumstances.....the acting was at times a little over doneand excessive BUT hey, its a movie....So, certainly..not a must see and more like a wait for the video to come outsee movie....
Lets be under no illusions here, if Martin Lawrence gets on your nervesthen it's very safe to suggest one stays away from this piece. Hisbrand of comedy ranges from the pratfall antics of Jerry Lewis to themore vibrant delivery of someone like Richard Pryor, yet asking him tocarry a movie on his own is still risky at best. He has achieved alevel of success by having the knack to raise a laugh out of the mostmoronic of situations, and here in Blue Streak he milks it for all heis worth, and I personally find the film a good cure for the blues.Miles Logan (Lawrence) gets caught post a diamond robbery, luckily forhim he has hidden the diamond in an air vent at a building that isunder construction, unluckily for him tho, is that when he gets out ofprison two years later, he finds that the building under constructionis now a police station! This sets us up for the splendid plot ofcriminal wise cracker Logan having to fake being a police officer tohopefully get his hands back on the diamond! Naturally things don't goto plan and things steadily spiral out of control. The film is fun, it doesn't have an overlong running time, so with thatthe viewer doesn't feel a sense of too much Lawrence overacting, somesolid support from Luke Wilson & William Forsythe adds to themerriment, and the action junkies are suitably catered for as well, soall in all a very solid 6.5/10 from me.
HIS IS THE FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER , THIS IS THE ONLY MOVIE MAKE ME LAUGH FROM START TO END , OHHHHHHHHH VERY VERY VERY FUNNY
This movie really surprised me. I expected another unintellectual juvenilecomedy. It wasn't like that at all. In fact, the worst part about thismovie were the absurd attempts at comedy. This is an action film. AndLawrence appears to be an excellent action film actor. The little bits ofcomedy thrown in were just horrible and broke the cohesiveness of the restof the movie. I highly recommend to action fans. Anybody else will hateit.Miles Logan (Lawrence) is a professional jewel thief who's caught in a majorheist. In the escape attempt, he hides the prize diamond in a ventilationshaft in what he thinks is an abandoned building. He's arrested shortlythereafter and spends two years in prison. When he returns for his loot, hediscovers the abandoned building is actually an LAPD station, and theventilation shaft he's trying to reach is on a secured floor. So he stealsa security pass and poses as a cop to try to get to the shaft. From thenon, it's one adventure after another as the police think he's a realdetective. Not really many bad things to say about this except that most of the comedywas not only useless, it hurt the movie. Exclude the comedy and you have anexcellent action flick. I still give it 7*.
Blue Streak is certainly no Beverly Hills Cop and Martin Lawrence no EddieMurphy, but this movie was well worth the price of admission. I have toadmit I was a little sceptical about whether this movie would be funny ornot. Knowing that, you could imagine how surprised I was to discover thislittle gem of a comedy. This does not mean that this movie is withoutfaults. It has it's share (e.g. blatantly stealing characters from movieslike Beverly Hills Cop). However, the movie did achieve it's objective.Thismovie was simply a vehicle for Martin Lawrence to flex his comedy skillsandflex his skills Martin does. Don't expect anything too deep and you aresureto enjoy.
Martin Lawrence is definetely my favorite actor. He just makes everything funny, even if the script is weak. If you read his stand up material, for example, it isn't that funny at all. But if you watch it, you just can't help but laugh. This movie would be great even without Martin, but he just makes it as funny as can be.
I like Martin Lawrence, but this is not one of his best. Lawrence, who wasgood in films like "Boomerang", "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate", and hisconcert film, "You So Crazy", is wasted in this by-the-numbers plot. I wasoffended by some of the constant mugging (especially by Dave Chappelle) thatbordered on being a minstrel show. I was also bothered by a couple offemale characters who were dismissed from the story no sooner than theyappeared. Maybe it's me, but I'm tired of the old hip-African-American-paired-with-a-clueless-white-guy(Luke Wilson) plot device. Hollywood, give it a rest, already! If you'veseen one of these ("Downtown" comes to mind) you've seen all of them. Veryfew surprises here and even less where the jokes are concerned. There wasalso a minor plot point that was not cleared up at the end, a sure sign thatthe script is not solid. You'd be better off watching a rerun of "Martin",Lawrence's TV sitcom.
Martin Lawrence (BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE) makes you laugh until you stomach hurtsand delivers the goods as he blows stuff up in BLUE STREAK, one of thebetter action comedies ever made. Luke Wilson, Peter Greene, Dave Chappelle,William Forsythe, John Hawkes, Julio Oscar Mechoso and Olek Krupa are amongthe cast who all deliver fine performances. If you liked RUSH HOUR, then you will like BLUE STREAK. The plot is atypical action plot and the humor is pretty original. I must say that I wasnot expecting to like this film as much when I first saw it. Once you seeBLUE STREAK once, you will have to see it again. It is that good. BLUESTREAK gets 5/5.
