Blue Crush 2 isn't an imitation of Blue Crush... It is a coming of age story of a young surfer girl traveling to "find herself"

Blue Crush 2 isn't an imitation of Blue Crush. It is an entirely different story.Blue Crush 2 is a traveling/coming of age story. A young surfer girlgoes to South Africa to follow in her mother's footsteps and in theprocess find herself. The acting isn't great. But that isn't the point is it? The movie isabout surfing and traveling to great surf spots in South Africa.Yes it is a cheap direct to video sequel. They don't have the budget ofthe original and they don't have the same star power as Kate Bosworthand Michelle Rodriguez. However is the movie still enjoyable? Does ittell a good story? Do you enjoy the surf scenes? Do you enjoy meetingher "beach family"?I think so. Perhaps it is because I wasn't looking for an Oscar caliberfilm. Perhaps it is because I wasn't even looking to replace Blue Crushand I'm not offended that Kate Bosworth isn't in it (the other reviewerobviously is crushing on Kate badly.) Perhaps it is because I've gonethrough my own life change recently and am envious of our leadcharacter's ability to travel South Africa and surf the legendary surfspots. The movie for me, is good fun, and helps me keep "life" in perspective.I'm looking to start my "Odyssey" soon.

The original 'BLUE CRUSH' is a guilty pleasure of mine but everything about this film just feels like a stale imitation 'wannabe'.

'BLUE CRUSH 2': Two Stars (Out of Five)I'm a big fan of the original 'BLUE CRUSH' (from 2002), it's kind of aguilty pleasure of mine. I'm not really into surfing or surf movies butI do highly enjoy that film and it's probably my favorite of the genre(other than maybe 'POINT BREAK'). Now, nine years later, comes anotherdirect to video sequel. Another sequel in name only (merely cashing inon the brand name of the first movie) as the film has nothing to dowith the original other than it's about surf girls trying to followtheir dreams of being surfers. It was directed and produced by MikeElliot, who's produced a slew of direct to video sequels ('DEATH RACE2', 'SMOKIN ACES 2' and 'AMERICAN PIE: THE BOOK OF LOVE', just to namehis most recent) and directed one ('BEETHOVEN'S BIG BREAK', his onlyother directing credit). The film was written by Randall McCormickwho's made a name for himself writing 'B' movie sequels (like two'SCORPION KING' films as well as 'SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL'). This timethe film stars three lovely young ladies by the names of Sasha Jackson,Sharni Vinson and Elizabeth Mathis. The girls are beautiful eye candy(especially Vinson, who also recently starred in the excessive sequel'STEP UP 3D') but they're not nearly as interesting or memorable asKate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez and pro surfer Sanoe Lake from theoriginal. Everything about the film just feels like a stale imitation'wannabe'. This chapter tells the story of a young rich girl named Dana (Jackson)grieving over the death of her mother and absence of her father's love. She knows that her mom always dreamt of surfing Jeffereys Bay in SouthAfrica so she decides to leave the security of her Malibu home behindand venture to Africa in order to fulfill her mother's dreams. Oncethere she meets two other young female surfers by the names of Pushy(Mathis) and Tara (Vinson). One, Tara, is a successful 'Roxy' surferand the other dreams of being one. So Dana and Pushy decide to conquertheir surfing dreams together, while some bitter rivalry ensues withTara. The first 'BLUE CRUSH' made Kate Bosworth a star (before that she waspretty much unknown), it also made her one of my favorite actresses(along with her work that followed but 'CRUSH' definitely introduced meto her). I thought she not only obviously looked great but gave a goodperformance (as did the other two leads). That film definitely made youcare about their characters. You don't have that with this film. Thegirls look cute and they might be able to act, if given a chance inanother film, but here they're not relatable or interesting in theleast. That's probably due in large part to weak directing and a poorlywritten screenplay (more so than the girls' acting). The story justisn't involving and the surf scenes aren't visually interesting orthrilling at all. Hardcore surf fans still might enjoy this movie (aswell as obsessive fans of hot surf girls) but everyone else will mostlybe bored.Watch our review show 'MOVIE TALK' at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8oXDJoapdc

Delightful

This review is from: Blue Crush 2 (DVD) This is just a pleasant film that Mom's should have no problem letting their daughters watch.Really charming story and movie, I loved it.

not enough black people, but still better than the original. :)

i mean, can a brotha get some darkies in a movie made in South Africa? haha! j/kunlike the first movie, which was more about some broke hot chick struggling for balance and freedom in her life, this movie is much more about SURFING! i normally don't write reviews for this kind of thing, but i honestly think this movie is better than the first one. true, it's the story of a spoiled brat with a free spirit, but it doesn't pretend to be otherwise, and if you can accept that much, you'll find that it's not only very fun, but a bit soulful as well.the music in this movie is WAAAY better than the pop-rock soundtrack of the first Blue Crush. lots of punky indie rock in this soundtrack, plus a few well known old school tracks as well. ;)much MORE and much BETTER surfing in this movie, too. it was so disappointing how little surfing there was in the first movie. this one really highlights some talent. there's a few camera angle tricks that bring at least one of the bad-ass tricks together, but that's WAY better than the cgi work done in the first movie.the only really peculiar thing about the movie is how few black people there seem to be in South Africa. hahaha! yeah, colonialism sucks. *shrugs* anywho, it's a really fun movie for anyone who likes surfing flicks.

Enjoyable movie for a bit of a taste of South Africa.

This review is from: Blue Crush 2 (Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) We bought this movie because of our ties to South Africa, and this movie having been filmed there. To be perfectly honest, as far as plot and storyline are concerned, we're not surfers, therefore neither was of great interest to us. We watched the movie from the perspective of it being in South Africa. For that reason, we truly did enjoy it.

It served its purpose

Ok this was a straight to dvd sequel which means expectations are to be at the bare minimum. Was the acting bad? Sure. But who are we kidding, the acting in the first one wasnt much better. This movie, much like fast and the furious and others that clearly arent meant to present great talented actors, was just meant for fun, and it did its job. Plenty of surfing scenes and semi-likeable characters made this a nice way to kill time while winding down at the end of a work day. I would rent before purchasing, but at least give it that much of a chance.

Hyde park with flowers in her hair - yak on the floor

This review is from: Blue Crush 2 (Amazon Instant Video) Ok... it's really not a sequel. The music is... well Yuppie-wannabe-rock-cry-baby-music which sucks big time. This movie is horrible, I'm glad I only rented it. The Grateful dunces or Dead have their logos all over everything. The only thing missing is a hippie with a North Vietnamese flag painted on their forehead. A funny thing about the movie is no one works but they have gas and food. The first movie is so much better it's not funny.

Turrible just turrible

The girls were not hot enough to out do the awful plot, music(today is the greatest day? Worse song EVER), and acting. It was far too predictable and at time just strange. Do yourself a favor and pretend this movie never happened.

South African Odyssey

This review is from: Blue Crush 2 (DVD) At first I was a bit skeptical when I noticed that this film went straight to video and not released in theatres. Then I saw the trailer on YouTube and just viewing that short preview I could see this was a quality film so I bought it and it's a keeper. There are a few short subplots in the movie but the main story line is Dana's quest to find herself, surf the best swells at the places her mother was at 20 years before and making new friends with the large surfing group she meets. Traveling around South Africa was a joy to watch as it was filmed entirely on location there. A truly uplifting gem of a film for young and old alike and I highly recommend it.

Low budget= dedicated actors/actress but bad accents

Blue Crush 2 tried to show the hard life of a surfer girl. The newapproach of showing the hard life of a rich girl instead of a poorHawaiian who just wanted to make it big, like they did in Blue Crush 1,wasn't a big thing for many people. The acting was good enough to keepyou involved in the movie but the only thing that could have beenbetter was the accents of the characters. Sasha Jackson constantly hadher original dialect slip in the movie, which made it noticeablebecause she was playing the American surfer girl Dana. Elizabeth Mathisand Gideon Emery had convincing parts as Pushy and Dana's father andthe characters of Tim, Tara, and Grant completed the story well. Theacting of Sasha Jackson was OK but if they really wanted her as therule they should of changed the storyline cause her accent sucked inthe movie. The big plus was that the main actors/actress did do adecent part of their surfing. All in all the movie wasn't that bad, andin fact I bought it on DVD because I love when a low budget film does agood job of showing the storyline

not bad, but not blue crush

This review is from: Blue Crush 2 (Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) This movie is not too bad, but not great either. Reminded me a little of "Endless Summer".The "Blue Crush 2" name must have been purchased for its recognition value, because there is absolutely no continuity in plot or characters from "Blue Crush".

Stop Making Pathetic Sequels

These sequels don't make any sense. Why release a sequel randomly like Blue Crush 2? The first movie stands out on its own, and may be a decent film. But why release a pathetic second movie to just ruin it? Same as Death Race 2, Mirrors 2, Curious George 2, and Marley and Me: The Early Years. No sequel, except for a few Disney sequels, stands apart from the original. Blue Crush 2 does complete injustice to the 2002 movie. I swear to God, if they make a sequel to Reign of Fire, I will snap.Rating: 0 stars/5 stars

Cool Flick

This is a real feel good movie, something the whole family can enjoy. The movie itself has nothing to do with the original Blue Crush, with the exceptions of the title and surfing. The movie revolves around Dana who leaves California and heads to South Africa to fulfill her mother's dream of surfing J-Bay.The production and acting exceed what you would expect from a direct to dvd release.Even though it is a bit cliche,i will again suggest this for a good family nite movie.

Not that bad, not the best bet, I'd still want to watch it again

This movie was fun for me. I saw adds for this on TV and the fact thatis was straight to DVD made me doubt it's potential, but being a fan ofthe original I figured I give it a chance, so when I saw this onNetflix I thought it'd be something to watch to pass the time. I wasimpressed by it, granted it definitely wasn't the greatest acting andlines were cheesy here and there but I did enjoy it.It was an entirely different story from the first and I enjoyed thatfact, they weren't trying to continue off a story that people forgotabout a decade ago. The story is about a California girl trying to findher own and the only way she knows how is to retrace her mother'ssurfing footsteps in South Africa, with only a picture album to go onshe flies SA and starts her journey, but it's not as simple as shethought it be and immediately doubts herself and her journey. Howevershe manages to make new friends that help her with her goal to walk inher mother's footsteps.I find movies like this really entertaining, they know they won't bemaking the Oscar's or win awards but they do the best they can. It's avery chill and relaxing film, paying homage to most surf films which isbasically a "chill or be chill" vibe which in it's own right is a veryattractive scenario, at least for me.I give this film 8 because the acting isn't the best and it get'scheesy in some parts but overall this is a great film it's worth awatch if you like surfer flicks and it's something relaxing enough towatch on a lazy day. Like I said in the title, not the best but I'mstill going to watch it again.
