This is a very funny movie. Rick Moranis is a great actor and is very funny in this movie. This is one of my favorite movies.
let's face it tom arnold doesn't make the best movies. But compared to his other ones this one is pretty good. This comes from the help of Moranis who makes the movie both entertaining, funny and actually watchable. a must for arnold or Moranis fans and for the rest of us just some pleasent fluff that can be enjoyed.
This movie is nicely done, and Tom Arnold is this really nice andlovable character who (even though he's a bully) you like a lot. Afun movie to watch anytime! Rick Moranis also plays a greatcharacter and proves once again he's a great actor.
This review is from: Big Bully (DVD) This movie has all the fun u can be searching for! I live in mn so for me it is x tra pleasing i like the cast one of the best around!
Predictable but still fun to watch. Everyone will be able to relate tothismove, either as Davie or Rosco. Tom Arnold was great. Not as great as hisTrue Lies part, but funny still. Rick Moranis is his typical wimpish self.Great movie for remembering your old school days.(5 out of 10)
this was absolutely my LEAST favourite movie in the history of time. itwentNO WHERE, with the most annoying actors. most bad movies always have theirminor good parts, not this one. the only reason i watched the entire moviewas to see if it was going to have a pleasant ending. it was HORRIBLE.purecrap. :)Liz
It had been a long time since I watched this movie, and I finally gotto refresh my memory. I loved this movie ever since I was a kid, andit's still funny. Moranis and Arnold were perfect together. When DavidLeary was a kid, he was constantly bullied by Ross Bigger (Fang) WhenDavid and his family moves away, he tells the police that Ross stole amoon rock. Years later, David and his son return to town and Davidbecomes the new creative writing teacher. He finds out that Ross isalso a teacher at the same school and continues to bully him again.David soon realizes that he must stop running and face his demon onceand for all. I highly recommend BIG BULLY!!!
"Big Bully" of just another film with a nice concept and a nice littlestory-that was simply poorly excecuted. What could have been a thoughtful andmeaningful comedy about the effects of childhood into adult life-andcarrying over to their own children,is ruined by poor timing, some badcasting, and needless slapstick. What makes alot of these films frustrating isthat these mistakes can be so easily avoided by the director, writers, editor, anyone.Whydid they decide to make Tom Arnold's character so mean again when hisinferiority complex as an adult was 10 times more interesting? Why did thefilm meander so much between serious and slapstick? Why didn't we see more ofa relationship with each man's son(s)? The attractive Julianne Phillips asthe romantic interest of Rick Moranis?(uuuhhhhgggg)- Imagine Carol Kane(TomArnold's wife)playing that roll instead-its not like they couldn't findher. And someone should tell the writers that an adult holding a 15year-olds'head to a running power saw and shoving him around in front of hisclass-mates is NOT funny or interesting- it's irresponsible and needless. All this being said,I actually mildly enjoyed Big Bully for its premise, some smattering of light laughter, and its occasional charm. 5/10.
If I wanted to want grown men fight like school children, society woulddeem that there is something wrong with me. And yet, somehow this moviewas made. I have nothing against the two lead actors, but they sucksomething awful in this suckfest of a film. Terrible plot, terribledialogue, and just an all-around depressing atmosphere.I can't delve into too many details lest I spoil this "film" but at onepoint David orders a beer at a bar and there's a record scratch, andeverybody shuts up and looks at him. One guy even hits a pool ball offthe table. That's pretty much how I feel about the movie. The pool ballis the point, and the movie is the pocket. This movie is about as tablescratched as one could be.
Every so often Hollywood takes a serious theme like murder or bullyingand tries to make light of it. When that attempt gropes toward theinner pain of dark comedy, the film may have merit. Yet when the focusis on cheap non laughs surrounded by a total disregard for substance, logic, and human decency, the result is most often a bloated, turgidmess like BIG BULLY.Director Steven Miner wastes the limited talents of all concerned. RickMoranis is a weedy, nerdy little man who has to relive the trauma ofchildhood bullying by beefy Tom Arnold. As the film opens, both Moranisand Arnold are in the fourth grade. Arnold plays a blubbery bully thatone sometimes sees in a filmed version of a Steven King horror movie. But in the hands of a King based script, the bully is a source ofunredeemed evil. Here, under Miner's unsure grasp, Arnold is no morethan a walking tub of prepubescent lard who seeks to bully the nerdyMoranis. Now if Miner had tried to make a serious movie about childhoodbullying, then BIG BULLY might have had something worthwhile to sayabout the angst of childhood insecurities. Now flash forward twenty years. Moranis and Arnold are both teachers inthe same grammar school, and Arnold quickly reverts to the bully thathe was. What makes this regression reprehensible is Arnold'sjustification that as a victim, Moranis thoroughly deserved his fate. What then follows is a ridiculous chase scene between prey and predatorthat offers no lasting insight into either demented personality.Julianne Phillips is a wasted toss in as Moranis' girlfriend. At theend, when director Miner seeks closure, the film ends in the uneasiestof endings, one that satisfied neither the desire for revenge nor onethat offers justification for that revenge in the first place.
Thin comedy about a boy who gets bullied as a kid, then years later meetsupwith his bully only to discover that things haven't changed. Moranis andArnold are fun to watch at times, but the childhood scenes are weak andthefinal outcome isn't really a surprise. 2/4
Tom Arnold again brings his A-Game as he stars in this heart felt comedy. While it has its dull moments when Arnold isnt around, it more than carries its load when he is around. I laughed, i cried, i saw it again, it was that good. Tom honestly makes us believe he's been a tormenter all his life.

Jeffrey Tambor's init, but Curtis Armstrong, I hate that guy. I think he's a pain in theass. He's just annoying!! His role in this film wasn't funny. Nor washegood in Jingle All The Way! I just really, really do not like him!But everyone else was good. I recommend this movie!!-
This movie is about nothing. Awful movie. For idiots or degenerates only.
An english teacher finds out the the shop teacher that teaches in the same school was once the bully that bullied him when they were kids. And they still go at it as adults. Tom Arnold and Rick Moranis were entertaining but I just thought it still was not as good as I expected. I expected more laughs than what I got. Especially with the cast that is in it. It was not a bad movie but it is one that I might not watch again. And I thought the story was well thought of but was not executed good enough that you could enjoy it.
It totally baffles me how anyone can give this film 5/10, let alone 10/10. It doesn't deserve 1. What films have some people beingwatching?Rick Moranis and Tom Arnold should, and are obviously ashamedof being in this horrible movie, that some one mentioned, 'goesnowhere'. Tom Arnold is awful throughout, and clearly has troublewith some of the bad dialogue he gets. It is less his fault more of afault of director Steve Miner who has done a lot, lot better films inhis time. Rick Moranis is bland, and totally unfunny. In fact, wasthere a funny line in the entire film. The times I chuckled were thebadly scripted bits, or how badly a scene was put together, or howawkward Arnold was looking.Okay, okay, some would say this is a children's film but it'smessage is totally confused. Bully reconciles with the bullied -well, I doubt most kids would ever want to see those that bulliedthem again, let alone get re-bullied by them in adulthood. The filmwould simply depress kids.Overall, an awful movie. Bad script, bad direction and bad acting.Suffice to say, I give this 1/10.
big bully is a great movie and even though its old alot of us should buy a movie like this on dvd and it may not be funny as the way movies are today but those who had bullies can relate to this movie so buy this on dvd
Before we start, I've been a victim of bullying for a year and a halfbefore I dropped out of high school. I was 3 months away fromgraduating. I have constantly complained to teachers and they didnothing. The movie sends a bad message to people. This movie glorifies bullying. They try to make it out to be funny. This movie isn't a comedy in myopinion. To me, it's a horror movie. The movie starts out with David Leary as a kid being bullied by RoscoBigger a.k.a. Fang. That's right, his last name is Bigger. Who couldn'tcome up with a worse name than that? The name "Fang" is derived fromthe fact that Rosco only has one fang instead of the usual two.One day at school, David Leary catches Rosco stealing a moon rock. Hereports him the the authorities and he gets sent to Reformatory School. Then David comes home and finds out that his parent's are moving toOakland. This makes him really happy cause he won't have to be nearRosco ever again. Then, we flash forward to David Leary being an adult. He has written abook but nobody wants to buy it except some hippie that comes in thathe BS's into lying on what the story is really about. After he getshome, he gets a call. The old school that he went to wants him to teachthere. That's right, out of all the schools, he has to go back to hishometown where he was bullied constantly by Rosco. When he gets to the school, by coincidence, Rosco works there as a woodshop teacher. Rosco doesn't recognize David until halfway through thefilm when his son mentions David's last name to him.Toward the end of the film, Rosco loses his mind and attempts to try tokill David for everything that has happened to him in reformatoryschool. He fails and when you get to the end, you think the bullying isover and done with, it's not. When you see David moving to New York, guess who's behind them with their mobile home? That's right, Rosco. One thing that I should mention is that David was bullied by Rosco andthey both have kids. What doesn't make sense is that David's kid isbullying Rosco's kid. Why? I have no clue. But, when David Leary seeshis son bullying another kid, he does nothing about it.Another thing worth mentioning is that when David Leary goes to theprincipal, he does nothing. That message is the only thing that istrue. The school authorities won't do *bleep*! Believe me, I know. When David Leary apologizes to Rosco and tells him that what he did waswrong, I just shook my head in disbelief. What he did was the rightthing. The message this movie sends is that if you are bullied, you have twooptions: A. FightB. RunWhy don't people actually do anything to combat bullying and preventstuff like this from happening? They probably think it's not theirproblem and they shouldn't get involved. It is their problem! Theyshould do SOMETHING about it.This movie wasn't funny in the slightest. It was just a terrible moviethat just glorifies and laughs at a problem that is getting worse inAmerica.I give this movie 1 star out of 10. Get something else.
This movie was so crap i'm ashamed to say i've watched it. Anybody thinking of watching it is wasting their time because it sucks. If you watch it you're dead.
BIG BULLY, in my opinion, is an excellent comedy that you will neverget tired of. When David (Rick Moranis) met Fang (Tom Arnold) again forthe first time in several years, I got a little scared myself. This isbecause of what had happened between them years before. If you ask me,the performances were good, the direction was excellent, and the castwas perfectly chosen. However, what Fang did to David, even as anadult, was very childish especially since he managed to ruin David'sdate with Victoria (Julianne Phillips). Now, in conclusion, I highlyrecommend this excellent comedy that you will never get tired of to anyRick Moranis or Tom Arnold fan who hasn't seen it. You're in for a feelgood time, so go to the video store, rent it or buy it, kick back witha friend, and watch it.
