Inoffensive and entertaining....

I was not a huge fan of "Monsters Versus Aliens". It was decent enoughentertainment, but certainly not a must-see film. After all, there havebeen quite a few 3-D CGI films and this one was no better or worse thanmost of them. Watchable, certainly, but that's about all. Well, myopinion of "B.O.B.'s Big Break" (a special feature on the DVD for"Monsters Versus Aliens") is pretty much the same--it's entertainingbut certainly nothing exceptional.This short is a prequel to the full-length film, as Susan is nowhere tobe seen. Instead, Dr. Cockroach, the Missing Link and B.O.B. star inthe film--with some support by the General. Fortunately, all are voicedby the original character actors. The story involves Doc Cockroach andthe Missing Link trying to use B.O.B. in order to escape theircaptivity in a government complex. As for B.O.B., he's oblivious as towhat is happening and believes he's having a birthday party--while DocCockroach is actually trying to turn him into a giant bomb. Where thisgoes is nice fun and naturally the General has something to say aboutall this.The film has nice CG animation and decent characters and story, butnothing ever makes this THAT interesting. If you saw the movie and notthis short, I wouldn't say you need to hurry to get around to seeingit.

Missing Glasses

This review is from: B.O.B.'s Big Break [Anaglyph 3D] (DVD) Unfortunately, even though the DVD case claimed to contain 3D glasses to go with the DVD -- it didn't. Furthermore, while I have plenty of sets of red-blue anaglyph glasses with other DVDs, this one requires magenta-green lensed anaglyph glasses -- of which I have none. So, until I get my hands on some of those, my son can't watch this yet. (I gave it a quick preview, and it seems OK. I think he'll like it... eventually.)

Just the right length

This review is from: B.O.B.'s Big Break [Anaglyph 3D] (DVD) This is cute and the 3D is done well. I kind of miss Susan. Some people say it is too short. If you have to watch it with the kids it's just long enough. Children's attention span is not longer than this anyway.

Price was very reasonable and the shipping was outstanding upon arrival date and time. Came at the least amount of time compared to the latest! Great!

Celebrating B.O.B.'s Birthday in 1968

B.O.B.'S BIG BREAK is a prequel story to MONSTERS VS. ALIENS. It was originally marketed as a supplement to the DVD release of MONSTERS VS. ALIENS. The short takes place about forty years before MONSTERS VS. ALIENS. It's 1968 and Dr. Cockroach (Hugh Laurie) has concocted a special plan to help the Monsters escape from Area 52. He's made a special birthday cake for B.O.B. (Seth Rogen) with an explosive chemical in it that's meant to blow B.O.B. up so the door to their cell will be destroyed. The explosion won't hurt B.O.B. because he can literally pull himself back together. Instead, when B.O.B. digests the cake he gains the ability to hear the thoughts of others when he touches them. Of course, being B.O.B. he doesn't know this happens. Dr. Cockroach and The Missing Link (Will Arnett) use B.O.B.'s new ability to learn critical information from General Warren R. Monger (Kiefer Sutherland) and escape from Area 52. All the while, B.O.B. believes everything that's going on are part of the party games for his birthday.B.O.B.'s BIG BREAK is only about 13 minutes long, so don't expect a full-fledged movie or a longer short. However, it does provide some interesting backstory to the Monsters from MONSTERS VS. ALIENS. I enjoyed it. I just wished it would be a little longer or would have included a few more shorts. If you enjoyed MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, you might want to check out B.O.B.'s BIG BREAK.
