starts off strong but leaves a sour taste

When i watched saw this film only had 2 stars on netflix I was really hesitant. It started off pretty awesome with the first two stories. Then it took a turn for the worst. There is little to no character depth at all. The killer comes off as a low paid spookey land worker. The twist in the first story was good but the same twist over and over made the film stale. I wished they could have cut out the third story and do a better job with showing the connection between the killer and the two girls. This film was gonna be in theaters but kept getting pushed back until it went straight to dvd which was well deserved. I don't recommend the movie cause it just gets so confusing and repetitive.

Oh My !

Oh My God ! Firstly, the clown is on the front cover and the clownitself is only in the movie for 4 minutes when he is actually doingsomething. Also the guy wasn't even scary his laugh actually made melaugh. Also with the t-shirts that he made those 2 girls wear therehearts were beating how do you make t-shirts move it is impossible. Theacting overall was okay the death scenes well there wasn't really thatmany but I have to admit the death scenes are pretty good theresomething different you will know if you have seen it. So... Acting4/10...Death Scenes 10/10... Setting 2/10.So overall ... 16/30.Also the gore in this film ... 1/10 ... there was hardly any real gorewhat so ever..Bye-Bye.

Meh...

Amusement was actually not that bad, despite the hasty reviews given byother users. It was really suspenseful in the beginning with the firststory, and REALLY suspenseful during the second one. I was actuallyscared during the second story. Bu the third story, and the conclusionof the movie were just average. First off, they were very unrealisitcand fake. Who would check into a hotel that creepy with a guy like thatrunning it...NO ONE, and also, how did this "guy" manage to constructand build and pay for this, "torture" chamber? Like i said, really goodat the beginning and really suspenseful and realistic, but at the endit was just ordinary. But i do i have to say that laugh was prettycreepy!

Underrated

Here's the thing,If you give this movie a low rating, you haven't seen more than 90% ofthe low-budget horror movies that get released these days."Amusement" script is pretty hollow, but the cinematography, thephotography, the ambiance and some of the acting make up for the lackof a strong story.There are some good frightening moments, and the tension is there frombeginning to end.If you like slashers with some suspense do give it a go.Besides, there's a killer clown in it, and that alone makes it worththe watch.

At most average

After languishing for so long in 2008, Amusement is finally making itsdebut on DVD. I had high hopes for the movie after watching the trailerbut it is nowhere near what I had expected it to be.The movie can be summarized as a series of vignettes.Each vignettetells the tale of three women and their encounter with a psychotickiller, out to get them for they had done to him in the past. The plotis similar to Valentine (2001) but the movie was weighed, measured andfound wanting.For starters the editing could have been a lot better. The movie startsoff with the Shelby story when it could have been much better placedwhen the psychiatrist questions Tabitha about Shelby. Another scene inwhich Lisa tries to enter the hotel and accidentally breaks a bottle,when the psycho steps out the bottle is still on the steps untouchedand in one piece.The story was not impressive at all. The whole Tabitha portion of thestory of her babysitting her cousins and being attacked by the clownwas very similar to Halloween (1978). The back-story which told why thepsycho had such an animosity towards the girls in the first placeshould have been well explained.The characters where not plausible at all. For instance, when Lisasends her boyfriend to check on her friend at the hotel and when hedoesn't come out, she doesn't call the cops, she goes in herself. Imean how stupid can you get. The movie is nothing more than acompilation of several slasher movies made in the past all jumbled upinto one movie. No wonder why this movie never made it to the bigscreen. If you want to watch a good horror movie rent out Halloween(1978),Psycho(1960) or The Changeling(1980)because this movie is nothing morethan another futile attempt by Hollywood to create a decent, originalhorror movie.

so this movie is pretty bad

okay so I have never written a review on IMDb and this movie was so badthat I seriously had to write a review. First off, the whole entirepremise of the movie is so amazingly stupid, and stupid is probably themost g-rated word I can use right now. The movie ends by explaining the"laughing guys" motives..."we made fun of him in high school...then weforgot about him, but he never forgot about us"...ARE YOU F-INGSERIOUS?!?!?!?!?!?! What kind of bull crap explanation is that? Oh I'msorry the director has unfinished childhood issues that he feels heneeds to vent on camera like are you serious? Get a therapist, don'tmake one of the biggest wastes of film in existence...oh my gosh itotally get it, it so deep...the message of the movie is don't bullypeople...lame sauce to the most highest degree.If your going to make a horror movie with that line of thinking in mindthen explain it a little better...I'm going to lay off that fact thoughbecause I could literally write a whole review on how the whole entirepoint and execution of the movie is absolutely dog crap.But everyone is mentioning plot holes and they are absolutely correct.First off, as mentioned, would your children ever invite a grown mandressed in a creepy clown outfit into their home? When the babysitterasks the kids about him they say "He said he just wanted to have fun"If there are any children alive that are that stupid andretarded...then you fail at life.Second off, when the girl goes into the creepy house...she knocks overa glass bottle...bad guy comes out to check and girl slips in behindhim. Girl goes up to room and meets a deaf guy which later turns out tobe the killer...also lame Third off...how in the heck is a therapiststupid enough to think that she is in an FBI cell/building when she hasto go through creepy and filthy tunnels and prison cells to interrogatethe girl? Fourth off...The girl in the end gets trapped in a cell withthe killers weapon and she quotes "Now thats funny"...are you seriouslyserious? has to be the worst line in almost any movie considering thecontext.Fifth off...The trucker in the beginning just randomly goes intosomeone else's house Sixth off...the girl jumps out of the trucker'struck...because that makes sense...Seventh off...How did the therapist get to the girl? Who lead herthere? the only other person would have been the killer, which thetherapist evidently mysteriously and magically had treated before, sotherefore she would have recognized him...even if its been x number ofyears...a therapist never forgets people like that Eigthth off...thebeds... really? lame is the only word i can use without this reviewgetting flagged.All and all there is one scene in this movie where there is a clown ina chair...and I have to say that that scene literally scared the everloving crap out of me.but other than that I could write a 50 word expletive to describe howabhorrently terrible this movie is...Avoid it like the plague and if you watch it, please write an equallytruthful review about his movie so no one ever has to sit through thisgarbage again

Abused not amused

For the past few trips to Blockbuster Video, I've walked through the "horror" section and have seen the movie Amusement sitting on the shelf. It looks creepy...It has a scary clown on the cover, it's in the HORROR section, and the cover entices you with the line "Your Fear. His Amusement". The cover alone made me pick up the case a few times, and even after reading the summary on the back, the movie looks like it would be a thriller.Amusement is a horrible movie.The plot of the movie is quite simple, and should have worked out decently. You meet one of the three girls in the story; Tabitha (Katheryn Winnick), Shelby (Laura Breckenridge), and Lisa (Jessica Lewis), and you follow them for a short period of time, witnessing what we'll call "the worst day of their life". Each girl's story is presented separately, and then all tied together a little later in the film. The gist of the story is that when the three girls were in elementary school, there was a boy in their class who made a disturbing diorama of a gutted squirrel, and they decided to tell the teacher about it. The boy was committed to a mental hospital, and when he grew up, he decided that it was time for revenge on the girls who had him sent away.So great, you read the plot, and think "Yeah, this has potential...the killer would have a good reason for revenge, I can see how separately the girls "bad day" stories tie into this big story...". The first half of the movie is even pretty neat with some of the other gore that happens...but then we get to the half way point of the film. Everything starts to tie together in the movie, and it seems like there a lead-up to the ending starting to be formed, and then BAM! The movie comes to a dead stop. Once Tabitha realizes what's going on, it seems like the writers just said "Well now what do we do", and just slapped some lines together to finish out the movie. This is extremely poor form, and ruined what could have at least been a barely decent film.As something billed as a horror movie, especially a movie that's come out in the past few years I would have at least expected one of two things coming into the film that have become "standards" of horror: (semi) nudity or lots of gore. The "violent" scenes are extremely bland, and don't really show anything, and there's no eye candy either. Usually, from what I've seen, if a movie is known as a throw-away movie, there's usually at least something extremely gross to look at, or some semi-naked females here and there. This movie fails on both fronts, but in a film full of fail, I wouldn't have expected anything else from them.The ONLY redeeming part of the movie is the killer. The Laugh (that's right, The Laugh) does exactly what it sounds like...he laughs. The girls run into him, he does something serial killer-esque, and he just starts laughing in this creepy but hilarious laugh.

Hadn't heard of. Turns out to be good one!

This was a really good movie. Some good twist and turns that reallywasn't expected. Had trouble connecting everything together until theend, but they tied it all together pretty nicely in the finish. Verycreepy at times with some good scares. The acting was well done and sowere the effects. Can't really say this was a B movie as it waswritten, directed and acted in much, much better than most other Bmovies are. Will probably watch this again to pick up on things I mayhave the first time. Definitely would recommend this to a horror loverif they had some time to kill, and almost even as a must see.Surprisingly good movie! I wasn't expecting that...

I Can Dig It.

This review is from: Amusement (DVD) I liked the flick. I wouldn't recommend it to many people though, just the people like me who would be interested in seeing it. It's a pretty decent horror film. It's not as bad as many would have you believe, but I'm also not the hardest person to entertain. I let movies do exactly that...entertain me. And this movie did that. It's a pretty decent movie for only three bucks! I can dig that haha If I had to go back in time and have the option to buy this film again, I totally would. It's worth the price.The production value was surprisingly higher than I expected from a three dollar movie. So the movie is nice to look at. I really enjoyed the plot and twists that this movie had. Although the movie isn't realistic in what the killer can actually do, it's pretty enjoyable to watch. And really, who watches movies for realism? Go get a documentary for that.

Worth a Watch.

Despite some pretty bad reviews, I actually strangely liked this movie.The plot was actually really good. It had a decent storyline structure.You'll enjoy the actual stories of each of the girls in the beginningmore so then the conclusion.It's sort of like watching 3 different horror films, all boxed up andwrapped up neatly with a bow. This is more so a creepy "What if thiswas real?"rather than a "Jump out of your seat." sort or horror.The acting was lacking, but it wasn't enough to make me stop the filmor think less of the movie as a whole. I enjoyed it for the most part.The one thing I would say is missing besides some better actors, is abetter conclusion.Without spoiling, it had a perfect setup for a ongoing plot line,instead they did the cliché Hollywood ending of making itviewer-friendly. It would have been nice to see more development inthis story. I would have watched a sequel just to see how far it can goin the story line.Overall, pretty good and worth a watch if you're a horror film lover.

Just an average movie

well this movie is good if you have like netflix or a free rental..in the beginning it is creepy and in the house is extremely creepy then im not too sure what happened it like fell apart or the writer of the first half got fired and they hired someone who was under the influence..but if you like horror movies then just rent it, it'll keep you entertained and you'll be thinking WOWW what were those people on yahoo talking about then you'll realize the truth about the movie and say WOWW they were right..

The wierd kid from wedding crashers just got a little more bizarre

When the cover of a horror film sports a very creepy clown you are always tempted to check it out. The idea of the murderous circus character draws any horror fan in no matter how bad it will most likely be. The first really great clown film (in our opinion) came out in 1989 called Clownhouse which was shortly followed by the far more popular film IT, spawning a new breed of horror appealing to all those freaked out by our face painted friends. Which brings us to our feature of the evening Amusement. The cover will be slightly misleading since it's not about a killer clown, just more of a deranged loser who happened to be Todd in Wedding Crashers.The film was done a little different and broken up into three pieces centered around 3 girls Tabitha, Shelby, & Lisa. The first up is Shelby and her boyfriend Rob as they get involved in a convey trip that goes bad. The next is Tabitha who has the best part in the film. In her's she is babysitting her two nephews when she has to fight for her life against the clown on the cover. By far this as creepy as it gets. Third up is Lisa who leaves a bar with a guy and never returns forcing her friend to go searching for her. All these stories wind up coming together for the ending in which you find the girls all were close friends in elementary school. They all went their separate ways but are reunited one more time as they try to survive the evil Todd.Overall this wasn't great but wasn't terrible either. The acting was actually great from the three girls, especially Tabitha. It really made the film much easier to enjoy despite the confusion and plot holes. There are some parts you will have abandon questions you have and just go with the flow. The killer really doesn't have a scary quality to him besides his annoying laugh. He doesn't draw you in making you feel a true sense of worry, nor is his motive for wanting to murder the girls anything special. With all that said Amusement would be worth checking out but not buying since you won't feel the need to watch it again.

My Amusement Review

Amusement is the movie that leaves you desperate for more. It'sfascinating story and unpredictability is what keeps the viewer hooked.What made the film so unpredictable was when you expected something tojump out of nowhere… Nothing.When the clown disappears in the hallway. You expect him to get herfrom behind, he doesn't. In the torture chamber you think the killerdissected Shelby and Lisa, it turns out to be paper, no one saw thatcoming. The only negatives I have about the film is the character's lack ofcommon sense, For example. When the killer's chasing Lisa and Shelby upthe ladder, they leave they door open. At the top of the house when thekillers coming up the elevator. She could of cut the rope and thekiller would of fell to his death. In the torture chamber when the girlslashes at the killer's neck, she saw that he wasn't dead so she shouldhave attacked him more, in fact kill him. The other negative is thelength of the film.I rate the film 8 out of 10. the missing 2 stars are for the length andcharacters lack of common sense. I would highly recommend this toslasher fans.

Among the WORST movies I've ever seen

I was angry when the number rating scale didn't offer a "0" so I wasforced to give this movie an undeserved "1" instead. I am fifty-oneyears old and this may be the biggest waste of time I've seen in mylife. There is no need to warn of spoilers in this review because thereis absolutely no plot to spoil. The acting was atrocious, the weakexcuse for a plot was filled with numerous holes and implausiblecoincidences, and there was not a single shocking or scary sceneanywhere in it. The clown sequence was lifted from an old urban legendthat has been around for twenty years.Avoid this piece of garbage at all costs. The fact that his movie hasreceived an average rating of 5.5 means one of two things: 1. Thesensibilities of mankind are declining at a rate beyond belief.or 2. The producers and principals associated with this movie havespent a great amount of time writing bogus reviews to pump up theratings to dupe suckers into renting this trash.Please save your money and your time--DO NOT RENT THIS MOVIE!!!

Revenge is a Killer

I couldn't wait to see this movie, so when i finally did, i loved everyminute of it. It followed the story line precisely, which made it evenbetter to watch. Keir O'Donnell(Pathology and Mall Cop) played arevenge crazed psychopath, who decides to seek revenge on three women,who as kids, humiliated him, causing him to be locked up in a mentalhospital. Katheryn Winnick(Failure to Launch and Hellraiser 8), JessicaLucas(90210, The Covenant and Cloverfield), and Laura Breckenridge(Hitand Run and Gossip Girl) played the three women, whom the killertargets. Amusement was scary, slick and smart. It had some inventivemurder scenes it in, which is definitely worth watching. It also starsFernanda Dorogi and Tad Hilgenbrink(Lost Boys 2: The Tribe and AmericanPie: Band Camp). Amusement was released by New Line Cinema.

amusing blu ray pro done horror flick

As I love horror movies I give them their own rating stars a normal critic might give this one two stars because of it's budget and disjointedness. Which works here except for the ending perhaps. This killer reminded me of a young dr. giggles and mad serial killer and yes such giggling madmen do exist, my friend worked in a lunatic asylum and supersmart giggling killers were not safe to be around alone to say the least. The blu ray looks great here with no extras to be had but the picture is great. We know who the killer is and why he is doing what he is doing but this flick has the feel of a first time director in some ways, that being said it's still miles above many d level horror flicks I have seen, it's slick and well shot. The acting is done by a better group than a c or d movie like lets say 'demonic'. This movie does have a trule inspired clown scene too ,just like the cover. However this isn't a house of traps movie, it does have them to be sure but they are not picking off characters like in "SAW". I have to give this movie kudos for having a young killer played by a talented actor who pulls it off nicely. He's creepy and weird and yet believable, the rest of cast isn't well developed but then in these movies people get chased around and there's little time for a backstory usually. The ending was a little disjointed as a character escapes the mansion and ends up out in the country in another house. You just have to suspend your disbelief I guess and take it for granted that the two places are connected underground but that would a very long tunnel system! This fact didn't detour me from enjoying this little horror film at least it's professionally done on good film stock and not video tape like we had alot of back in the 80's. This film is in more horror collection and it's not a bad movie, a nonhorror fan may give this over the top in some cases movie one star for things like dissapearing characters but that's ok , we know he killed them off even though it didn't show what happened to them. The Shelby characters boyfriend and another female prisoner are captured but their fates are not shown. Still we know they are dead other movies would have shown the audience this fact though. Non horror or non b movie fans need not watch this one probably because these type of situations may annoy them but its ok by me.

Very Good

I really enjoyed this horror flick. It was a lot of fun, intense and very good. The storyline was really good. I really loved the first two acts and the final was good, but not as intense. The acting was great. The directing was very well done and the visuals looked very realistic. Overall, this is definitely one of the better straight-to-DVD flicks, if it was, in a long time. A memorable and fun film. Recommended!

No Laughing Matter...Sorta

By the trailers I'd seen of Amusement, I'd assumed I'd be getting the usual teen slash-a-thon; long on clichés and short on originality. It looked fun but I wasn't holding out any hope for a fresh take on the slasher sub-genre, not that there's anything wrong with that on occasion but it's nice to something "different" every now and then. Imagine my surprise when Amusement ends up skipping the clichéd characters and the "same old, same old" for something a bit more, well...amusing.The Laugh is one hell of a cool psycho, he's a killer of a thousand faces and some incredibly twisted pleasures including stitching his victims into bed mattresses and creating elaborate gore prosthetics to scare his victims! Instead of just donning the usual slasher get-up, he throws down on a clown outfit, a family man, a deaf-mute and more! The production design was off-the-wall, the kills were interesting, women hot, dialogue decent and an entertaining psycho.Amusement exceeded my expectations and I had a ball watching it! This was a super clever slasher film. Just between you and I, for some reason, the actor Kevin Gage strikes sheer terror in my heart. I know he's just an actor but the man terrifies me, he just exudes this violent alpha male thing that never fails to affect me. Couple that with Winnick's ability to conjure wood and a killer worth cheering for and this was what I call entertainment. There are no extras, which is a shame, but I'd recommend viewing this anyhow.

Great horror movie after a long time!!

My girlfriend and I have just watched this gem of a movie. The actingwas pretty good and the clown was really creepy as many other reviewshave stated. There were some parts that were a little predictable butthis definitely does not outweigh the overall quality of the movie. Ido not understand why this film had so many bad reviews. There weretimes that made my girlfriend and I jump out of our skin! Overall weenjoyed this film thoroughly and both of us thought a 5/10 was not afair rating. After a very long time we have seen such a creepy film. Ifyou enjoy horror films you should like this one... I sometimes thoughtit was a little like a "tame" Saw movie. Of course only with a fewsimilarities but it still reminded me of it somewhat. Enjoy!!
