Photographer Keyes is given an old mirror from an homeless person he photographs on the street, takes it home and gives it a friend. He doesnt know yet that people see horrible things happen to themselves in the mirror and later these things come true. Are these really suicides or is there a demonic force behind the mirror?

At the rate these movies are ploughing through the artifacts from theAmityville house it won't be long before we get down to thefloorboards, but for now it's a mirror that's causing problems for morecardboard characters in this sixth entry in the series. A homeless manhands it over to artist hairdo Ross Partridge, who then has strangevisions and discovers some unpleasant revelations about his past. Thismundane horror trundles along at a dull pace, leaving us waiting for abuild up that never comes as the various 'spooky' goings-on lead to adumb finale. Bland and lifeless, with ropey acting and Partridge's hugehair not helping matters.
I've been a fan of the Amityville Legend since I was a wee lad. But I'm not going to go into the back-story of the Amityville movies and the mythology orbiting them-- not much, at least. All you need to know when you watch this movie is that in 1974 (reset to 1966 in the movie), a young man named Ronald 'Butch' DeFeo (renamed to Franklin Bronner in the movie) took a high powered rifle and murdered his whole family in cold blood, later claiming that the spirit of the Devil told him to. What followed was an endless bread-crumb trail of ghost-stories, trials, books and movies, all surrounding the house in Amityville, which was supposedly haunted. I'm not going to dispute whether or not the house is haunted, that's for you to decide. But, the house is practically irrelevant to the movie itself. I'm going to break this movie down for you...and yes, we're talking spoilers! The movie is about what if the infamous Amityville killer had a son?And what if his son inherited something evil from his murderous dad?The film starts off in what I believe to be early 90s-era New York, in a neighborhood that resembles the Bronx. A young man living with his girlfriend in a loft above a coffee shop is given a mirror by a crazed old wino. His girlfriend doesn't like the mirror, so they give it to their neighbor, Suki, a painter, spooky stuff happens.Someone fairly irrelevant to the plot gets murdered, then Suki hangs herself after gazing to deep into the mirror. The young man is later called into identify a man's body, it turns out to be the old bum. He pays for a funeral. It is revealed that the man was the infamous Amityville killer, the young man decides to investigate further. He goes to the asylum where Bronner was kept, he has an epiphany when he realizes Bronner was his father. The young man, Keyes, is plagued by nightmares, in which he commits the crime that Bronner committed years before.Being an artist, he decides to work out his fears in a modern-art piece, which will be on display sometime later.Keyes becomes completely obsessed with the idea of killing his friends, but does his best to suppress the idea.In a dream, Bronner grabs Keyes and says "I'm proud of you son. Amityville is in your blood." Keyes destroys the mirror, evil is punished, the Amityville story comes full circle, and ends. I don't count 'Amityville Curse,' as one of the Amityville movies, because it was about a house that was not in Amityville and just happened to be haunted with no relation to Amityville whatsoever, and I do my best to ignore 'Amityville Dollhouse.' But every other Amityville movie is fairly good, and always entertaining, even if they're bad and poorly made, the aptly named, 'Amityville: A New Generation,' is the best, surpassing all of its predecessors, in my opinion, not necessarily in film-making, but the story is the best I've heard in all of Amityville mythology. There is some truth to the whole 'Amityville killer having a son' idea, though. Ronald DeFeo, aka Bronner in the movie, may have had a relationship with a woman around the time of the killings, but the exact details of her whereabouts or existence still remain a mystery. This is also the best-acted/directed of the series, and the special effects are limited, but effective nonetheless, especially a particularly disturbing scene where a green shadow dances for a few frames and vanishes. Overall, being a fan of Amityville and the legend surrounding it, the mythology and the books and movies and documents, I believe this is the best one. I'm not saying you're necessarily going to like it, but it's not terrible. A must-have for any Amityville fan.
Wow Wow Wow i love and live for the amityville movies and this one isanother great success the special effects are good acting good horror goodeverything good good good so ignore everyone else WATCH THIS MOVIE give itachance it has lots of potential7/10
Sookey is into demons, techno/industrial music, mirror, topless dry humping, short term relationship. My kinda gal! The only thing I didn't like was the director probably got brainwashed in the late Sixties in other words Republicans bad, Reagan bad, nuclear family from the Fifties bad bad bad. The best part is I get to see part of Sookie's left boob too bad she doesn't show us arse and bush wow Singapore fu. Oh wait you can see that on Mr. Skin's website. Another great concept is the television with a timed shotgun on top filming the person sitting in the chair and waiting to shoot the person in the chair. Lots of cooh mental hospital mumbo jumbo and a paranormal detective add more icing to the cake. Sookey turns into a zombie and a mental patient after hanging herself with her own artwork! I want a mirror like that so that I can make love to Sookey! Weird ending the mirror made him kill just like pops! But wait! Fortunately the paranormal cops show up just in the nick of time and subsequently he tells pops "LEAVE ME ALONE!" Like father, not like son. Weird stuff #6 and #7 too bad Netflix doesn't have #4!
This review is from: Amityville: A New Generation (DVD) This Amityville choice has us in our seat by the power of a mirror that once resided in the house that fear built. The story might have succeeded were it not for better evil possessed item outings in the Amityville series. The camera work and effects strive to make up for the lack of ingenuity with the storyline, and never do we the audience believe this could be anything other than a B-movie attempt at the greatness approached by some Amityville films. Still, some suspense exists and occasional inventive scare tactics intrude now and again, pushing the viewer slowly along the rails of a slightly better than average haunting tale. Not really Amityville caliber, but worth a single rented watch unless you are a die hard Amityville fan who must posess all the films. 2 and a half stars
....... I'M AN AMITYVILLE FAN JUST BEGINNING A COLLECTIONOF AMITYVILLE MOVIES. I AM LOOKING FOR THE ONE IN WHICH THE COUPLE HAD A DAUGHTER WHO DROWNED WHILE ON THE LAKE BEHIND THE HOUSE IN A BOAT WITH FRIENDS.AS SHE WAS DROWNING, HER GHOST CAN INTO THE HOUSE AND WENT UPSTAIRS TO HER ROOM. CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHICH AMITYVILLE THIS IS. IT BLEW ME AWAY.
In 1993, a year after AMITYVILLE: IT'S ABOUT TIME, another sequel was released and it was entitled, AMITYVILLE: A NEW GENERATION. Now, this sequel could have been a lot better, and it could have been somewhat scary, but because it lacks hauntings and fright, the film earned a three-star rating from me, meaning I thought that the film was...okay. KEYES TERRY (played by Ross Partridge), and his girlfriend LLANIE (played by Lala Sloatman) are both struggling artists. Their friends, DICK CUTLER (played by David Naughton, famous for his Dr. Pepper commercials and his role in AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON), SUKI (played by Julia Nickson-Soul), JANET CUTLER (played by Barbara Howard), & PAULIE (played by Richard Roundtree), are all artists, as well, with Dick and Janet also being Suki, Keyes, & Llanie's landlords. While at a cafe, Keyes receives a strange mirror from a street-bum. The house is from...112 Ocean Ave. (how did you guess?) That night, while the kids are out, Suki's ex-boyfriend, RAY (played by Robert Rusler, only famous for his supporting role in A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE) drops by. He finds the mirror in Suki's appartment, after Llanie and Keyes allow her to borrow it for awhile. The mirror casts off Ray's reflection very differently and then kills him. Suki is the mirror's next victim. Suddenly, the bum that gave Keyes the mirror is found dead. For some reason, Keyes tells DT. CLARK (played by Terry O'Quinn) to give the bum a proper burial. Keyes decides to find out some information on this guy, after finding out that the man's last name is the same as...Keyes' last name. Seven years ago, the bum was in a mental institution...for murderering his entire family in Amityville, New York...112 Ocean Ave (only changed to this character to keep Ronald DeFeo, Jr. from getting any money for this sequel if his name was used). Keyes is then shown to the bum's room, where he has a whole hallucination with Keyes being the role of the bum and seeing Keyes' mother and himself as a child visiting his derranged father. He snaps out of the hallucination, and tells Llanie about it. She informs him that in order to beat this, he has to face his fears. That night, the have an art gallery show, where he can stage the entire act of his father killing his family, while they sat, eating dinner (changed from when they were originally murdered as they slept). The art gallery show is going well, but the lights go out. Dick runs to the basement to turn them back on, but Suki appears, and kills Dick, but the lights are brought back on successfully. The show is now set for its final act, but instead of using a water gun as planned, Keyes uses a real gun, he shoots at the food on the table, and the shoots the mirror, which has been causing this whole ordeal. The nightmare is now over...for now. An okay sequel, but they should have had more of a story with the mirror, as far as having it cause more hauntings and gathering more victims. But an okay sequel.
Movies just don't get worse than this. Horrible plot, terribly timed, pathetic characters and effects and yes this is using "B" standards. And for the guys: nothing, this movie is a terrible let down, couple scenesthat could have been great but you get nothing but build up with nodelivery. This movie appeals to no one, horrible movie,it had bad; plot, acting, "B"flavor, special effects and everything else. Plus no nudity or erotics forguys or the girls.
In this seventh installment in the long running possessed house/objectsseries, a young artist comes into possession of a mirror that was oncekept in the infamous evil house in Amityville & soon finds his friendsare dropping off like flies to the supernatural entities that arecoming from it. Although this installment is really no different fromthe other installments (With the exception of Part 5) that followedafter Part 3, wherein it was objects from the house that killed people,it's still fairly entertaining & a welcome addition to the series afterthe weak Parts 5 & 6, it's not anything to original, but fans of theseries should find plenty to like. What makes this entry a cut abovemost installments in this long running series is the approach it takes,it goes for more psychological scares rather than throwing monsters &blood & guts our way (but don't worry there's still plenty of that heretoo) & the deaths are a little on the weird & violent side the film isalso helped by an attractive & talented cast & it's well executeddirection. Followed by AMITYVILLE: DOLLHOUSE *** stars
This is not based on a true story. A photographer gives money to a street man, and the street man gives the photographer a possessed mirror. The photographer lives with his girlfriend in an appartment in New york, and the romance turns deadly, because of the mirror.
Oh dear. This sequel has a mirror, this time, which houses the evilspirit of a psychopath which murdered an entire family with a shotgunin the Amityville home. The mirror captured the entire ugly incident ofthe horrified family who had no time to prepare for their uninvitedguest. The mirror is given to a photographer, Keyes(Ross Partridge)by abum(..who just so happens to be his lunatic father, and the manresponsible for killing the family)and it's evil soon terrorizes thosein a loft(..such as Keyes' painter pal Suki, portrayed by JuliaNickson-Soul)where he lives when they look into it. Soon Keyes ishaving nightmares, looking through the eyes of his father as he gunsdown the family in cold blood, worried that he might follow in hisfootsteps. Soon he sees other occurrences through his father's eyeslike that terrible day pops bashed his mother's head against the floorof an institution or experiencing a moment inside the cell as doctor'sadministered a drug to immobilize him.Pretty solid supporting cast who deserve better than being stuck injunk like this, such as David Naughton(American Werewolf in London)asthe proprietor of the loft with which Keyes lives, Richard Roundtree asan eccentric sculptor/artist, Terry O'Quinn as apsychologist-detective, and especially Lin Shaye as a hilarious ditsy, rather strange secretary-nurse in the asylum(..the one which heldKeyes' father) soon to be closed down.Rounding out the film, the sexy, leggy Lala Sloatman as Keyes'supportive girlfriend, Barbara Howard(Friday the 13th:The FinalChapter)as Naughton's betrayed wife(..he was on the verge of startingan affair with Nickman-Soul), Jack Orend as the sadistic fiend whoattempts to provoke his son into killing innocent people as he did, andRobert Rusler(A Nightmare on Elm Street 2:Freddy's Revenge)as arejected lover(..of Nickson-Soul)who meets an unfortunate demise whileripping apart paintings as a revenge for his dismissal. This film is a poor special effects movie merely using the Amityvilletitle as a cash-in. The franchise has never been that great to beginwith, but as each sequel was green-lit, it grew worse and worse. Afterthe third film, furniture from the infamous house become "possessed"items tormenting folks. The cast try hard, though, but the material(..amirror causing chaos and murder through supernatural means)is lackingin quality..and the rather mediocre special effects don't help matters.O'Quinn, as little as he has to work with, shows why he's such a greatactor, he can even shine in excrement such as this. All's not lost, youget to see Sloatman always wearing super short skirts(..or her man'sshirt in panties), showing off her legs throughout..hey, you have tofind a silver lining somewhere. Believe it or not, AMITYVILLE:A NEWGENERATION was the seventh film in the franchise! Coolest part of thefilm were the portraits of demons painted by Nickson-Soul's artist, perhaps inspired by the evil mirror after looking into it.
There isn't enough space to explain the many ways this movie is adisappointing mess. Silly special effects and an incomprehensible plotare the least of this movie's problems. The film looks like it wasconceived in the mid-eighties and just stewed until it could finally bemade in the early nineties. The mullet-headed "hero," (complete withfashionable "Miami Vice" three-days shadow beard), the ham-fisted slamsat Ronald Reagan, it would be funny if it didn't take itself soseriously. As it is, the movie is just pathetic. I actually feel sorryfor the poor actresses who wasted their fine nude scenes in this awfulmovie.
The short synopsis of "Amityville:A New Generation" goes like that:ayoung photographer Terry Keyes receives a mirror as a gift and sees inits reflection a link to murders committed in Amityville decadesbefore. And slowly the artists loft he shares with friends Suki,Dick andPauli is turned into a living chamber of horrors,as they too fall preyto the dark seductive powers of the mirror."Amityville:A NewGeneration" is an average horror flick at its best. There is a littlebit of suspense and the characters are surprisingly likable, but theplot is slow-moving and the finale is laughable.I'm not an enthusiastof "Amityville" series, however this seventh installment is actuallypassable,if you are in the right mood.6 out of 10.
If your like me and want to have a hoobie of collecting the entier series of somthing then yea thats one of 3 reasons i gave it a 3 star rating overall me and my Girlfreind enjoyed this
This review is from: The Amityville Horror - A New Generation (DVD) Definitely Low Budget, but with High Production values. If you have a 5.1 surround that has an emulator mode, you will need it for this, since the audio is not for surround, and looks like a VHS to DVD transfer( of good Quality). The emulation mode will pay back with scares during the spooky scenes. The story surrounds the mirror, but all is not what it seems. I have memories of watching this when it first came out, and it scared me then, as it does now. Mostly good cast, with a couple of extremely good people, and this makes the angle on the mirror story take flight in the best possible way. Definitely B grade, but at the price it is here, its worth it, and it does scare. The Amityville Curse "Schtick" is just an excuse for the basic story, but it works. If you can't afford a more expensive scarey film, then this is a good , VERY good alternative.
God help us all if anyone thinks this movie comes close to the original Amityville Horror. This "New Generation" version is pretty bad. If I'm watching a horror movie and absolutely nothing comes along to make me feel scared, something is seriously wrong with it (keep in mind- I'm easily scared!) To say this movie is flawed isn't enough- it was just a really bad attempt to continue the series and falling flat because of lack of suspense. The storyline was okay, and all the actors were alright, but this is just a really bad low budget film. Avoid it now.
Most people don't like this movie, but I actually enjoyed it. The onlything I don't like is that it doesn't mention the other films, it justshowsthe infamous Amityville house.!!!SOME SPOILERS!!! A young artist buys an antique mirror from a bum onthestreet. As soon as he puts it in his apartment, evil things start happeningto his friends. He also discovers who is Father was and his past. Goodstory, acting, and o.k. effects. ***1/2 out of *****.
The plot for AMITYVILLE: A NEW GENERATION is probably something a 7-year-old kid could think of on a boring, rainy day. A haunted mirror? No way! It's very silly but sooooo fun! I honestly do not have the slightest idea where the ideas for these AMITYVILLE sequels come from! But, it's fun, gory and very cool. Check it if you liked the first film.
THIS MOVIE BLOWED BIG TIME BEARABLE BUT STILL NOT WORTH YOUR TIME AND THERE IS NO SUSPENSE OR GORE THE ONLY THING THAT WAS GOOD IN THIS MOVIE WAS THE ACTING
This movie was not nearly as entertaining as the first couple ofAmityvilles. I think it actually had a budget that broke the tripledigits. The flashback scene to the nut house was genuinely scary. That's aboutit. The "dancing demons" were pretty hokey. The idea of highlighting an artshow with a poor shmuck coming in and shooting his friends with aSupersoaker was less than Grade-A. That is why most people hateartists.
