I suppose more of these are on the way..

I remember hearing somebody discussing the future of 3-D movies on CBS.He said that the biggest danger to the current 3-D boom will come whenthe market gets flooded with cheaply made, poor-quality 3-D films andthe term "3-D" will quickly become associated with mediocrity, orworse. He couldn't have been more right. There are so many reasons not to see this film but I will keep thisfairly short. First and foremost is the story which is insulting at itsmost basic level. Kids can learn so much from watching movies, which iswhy their information should be somewhat based in fact. The world ofnature seen in this movie makes me believe that the filmmakers hadwolves and bees confused with their thoughts of Alphas and Omegas. After all, the "alphas" are just leaders, not genetically bred superwolves. Each litter of wolves can have alphas and there are no "omegas"- just other wolves. And then there is the war between the two wolf clans which is fine forstory, but if there truly was a war such as that there would be no foodto found and there is obviously tons of caribou all over. The Lion Kingdid an excellent job of showing that the food had gone completelyscarce with bad decision making. Conversely, these must be the DUMBESTwolves imaginable eating bones and fighting each other instead ofhunting the meat widely available all over. My point is - why createentertainment that dumbs down our kids? Subtle changes could haveenlightened our children and been a boost to their brains. The film even had acting problems. For example there was supposed to bea wolf named Garth that upon his horrible howl, birds would fall fromthe sky. This could have worked had the actor been able to emit ahorrible howl. Instead, his howl was just weak and when the birds fell,it was cute but made zero sense. So much of the film was like this -half-thought-out ideas that might have worked with better writers andactors but upon completion didn't work at all. There is a total lack ofemotion as well. But if all of that isn't enough to kill brain cells, the animationsurely can't help. This is crude animation that looks more like astudent film than a theatrically released motion picture with big namevoices. The wolves look more like dogs with tiny tiny teeth withfeathers rather than manes. And the golfing goose(Balto, anyone?),while a cute idea, is one of the most disturbing images I've seen inyears. Finally, if you feel you absolutely must see the movie against thisentire warning - For the love of sanity..stay away from the 3D version. They did not go all out with the 3D AT ALL and it not only lookshorrible but it will hurt your head and cause tremendous strain to youreyes as well. I've had some bad 3D experiences so far, but this by faris the worst. I mean, this isn't even a bad movie, it's ABYSMAL,failure.Don't see this movie, trust me.

Not to shabby.

Not to bad of a movie. I think the animation could of looked better. Story was ok to, buoy kids really enjoyed it, so 4 stars for keeping them entertained.

Its no Nemo

Pixar has changed the way we look at animated films, and truly become the standard against the way we measure these sorts of movies in the 21st Century. The detail that goes into the plot, character development, and animation is nothing but the best. Unfortunately, Alpha and Omega isn't from the studio that gave us Buzz, Nemo, or Dug the Dog. That's not to say it's a bad movie. Just that its an `also ran'.The plot is harmless enough. Kate and Humphrey are members of the same pack, but not of the same social standing. Kate is an Alpha - a hunter and leader, driven and trained to be the very best. Humphrey is a good-natured and loveable goofball who pals around with his buddies, rising to the occasion whenever absolutely necessary. Sadly, Humphrey - an Omega - has feelings for Kate, and that's not just going to fly when it comes right down to pack law. Think Romeo and Juliet for the Wild Kingdom set.But when the pair of wolves gets tranquilized and relocated hundreds of miles from home, the journey back gives them a chance to discover each other. Sadly, the journey just doesn't live up to its potential. You can see each plot development coming from a mile off. We're also subjected to numerous jokes involving bodily functions and butts.Hayden Panettiere and Justin Long do a passable job as the star crossed Kate and Humphrey. Dennis Hopper and Danny Glover also turn in decent efforts as the senior statesmen of the Wolf community. Vicki Lewis from Newsradio, and more recently Sonny With a Chance, is also fun as Kate's tough mom, Eve. Alpha and Omega may be a fun way to pass a rainy afternoon, but its unlikely it'll earn a cherished place in many family's video libraries.

"Alpha & Omega"- A cartoon about wolves traveling across country and changing the order of the pack. Fun love story.I say B-, My Kids say A.

Cartoon about 2 wolves, an alpha (Panettiere) and an omega (Long),whoget relocated to Idaho and there journey back home. Two wolves that areunable to "be" together get captured and relocated to another parkhalfway across the country. They set out for home with help from somevery funny friends. Being a kids movie not much really to review,(except my kids really liked it). For the adults who watch this Ireally found it to be a metaphor for a class based system of the havesand have-nots. I may have read too much into it, but it makes a goodpoint of love conquering all, no matter who or what you are. Deepenough? There were some really funny scenes in this but it isdefinitely a kids movie. Adults won't be totally bored, but don'texpect "Shrek" type humor in this. I give it a B-, My kids give it anA.

A Howlin' Good Time

Alpha and Omega has all the features of a good film. It has endearing characters, a classic plot, and lots of humor mixed in too. I'm 16, and I really enjoyed the film. You'll find yourself laughing one minute and "aww-ing" the next. I actually felt that the animation was fairly good, and the plot, while certainly not original, was a classic winner. As long as you still haven't lost connection with your inner child, I guarantee you that this movie will be a good buy.

LOVED THIS MOVIE!!

Visually decent but disappointing effort

I love animation, always have, always will, but I was reallydisappointed with Alpha and Omega. It isn't without its redeemingqualities. The colours and sceneries are really beautiful to look at,and the voice acting on the whole is good. Justin Long was ratherbland, but Hayden Penettiere was quite likable and Dennis Hopperimpresses in his last film though as a film overall it is not somethingI don't think people will remember him by.Chris Bacon's music is occasionally nice, but most of the time itdoesn't fit completely with the scene it accompanies, in some of theaction scenes especially it comes across as a little obtrusive. Alsosome the worst animation is in the musical sequences, and the dancescenes feel really out of place. While I loved the colours and the sceneries, the character designsdidn't impress me at all. In fact, I found them rather forced, especially with the goose. The 3D was okay, I have definitely seenworse where it not only distracts but isn't good in the first place.Alpha and Omega's 3D had its moments, but sometimes it wasn't sharpenough and it jarred with the much clearer backgrounds.Besides, I haven't yet come to the worst assets of Alpha and Omega. Thestory is unbelievable mostly, I liked the concept and it started offgreat, but once the clichéd love story idea got introduced the filmwent downhill fast. Also there are several parts that struck me as oddand unbelievable, particularly with the wolf howl idea and the one withthe war between the two wolf clans is half-baked.The film is also devoid of a sympathetic and likable character, exceptfor Kate, who is quite cute. They do some actions that make you go"what?" at the screen, and also there are more clichés than you cancount in the characters alone. Being clichéd can work, but only if it'swell-observed, depicted or written, not the case here. The pace isuneven, dragging in the middle, and while I have nothing against"happy" endings I found the ending here underwhelming. The worst part is the writing. The script is mostly awful, withhalf-baked ideas and any parts that strive to be funny or poignantinstead come across as eye-rollingly cheesy or cloying. The sex jokesalso get too much, and feel really out of place, while the rest of thejokes are predictable and incredibly lame.So all in all, not the worst film of 2010 or the worst animated filmever, but the most disappointing animated film I have seen in a while.2/10 Bethany Cox

Adorable little movie.

The movie had my husband and I giggling and the children enjoyed it alot. When it was over, my six year old son asked if we could buy it. Ididn't know what to expect when we rented it and was pleasantlysurprised at what a great little movie it was. The mother wolf had merolling. I think any mother could relate. I do wish the adventure was alittle longer, but still very pleased with this one. Storyline- InJasper National Park, the wolves, Kate and Humphrey, have known eachother since puppyhood, but they are on the oppose ends of the WesternPack's social structure with Kate as the energetic Alpha daughter ofthe pack leader and Humphrey being the good humoured Omega. That socialstructure forces Kate to accept an arranged marriage with Garth of theEastern Pack to unite the packs for peace, regardless of Humphrey'shopeless attraction for her. Before that union can occur, Kate andHumphrey are captured by the park's rangers and sent to an Idaho parkas part of a wolf repopulation project. Mindful of her duties, Kate isdetermined to return to Jasper and Humphrey offers to help with theassistance of two odd geese. However, as this disparate pair strugglethrough the dangers to get home, a growing mutual appreciation of theirtalents and then a deeper love threatens to disastrously complicateeverything if they make it back.

A movie that's more than it seems...

I have to admit, part of me didn't want to see this movie when I sawthe trailers. The trailers make this film look...well..pretty bad. Itseems like yet another story about how two people who come fromdifferent classes and shouldn't be together, end up being together inthe end. We've seen it a million times. Over. And over. And this movielooked like yet another carbon copy of that same basic idea. And to boot, in one of the previews, the goose Marcell seemed to havethe same voice as the goose Boris, from Balto. The animation lookedlike it would be terrible, and the character designs seemed odd atbest. You will notice, however, that I am using past tense on all of theabove. Because, I just watched this movie, and I really like it!Marcell turns out to be an original character, with a french-Canadianaccent and a British sidekick named Paddy (wordplay on Caddy, whomPaddy functions as). Paddy is very witty and Marcel is actually prettyentertaining. (And no, his voice is not the same as Boris, after all.)Our main characters, Humphrey and Kate, are not as one-dimensional asone would have expected. In fact, I really like Humphrey. I find himfunny, unfailingly patient and really, acts the way that a lifelongfriend of Kate's WOULD act. In fact, he's very believable. Meanwhile,we see through the film that Kate does struggle with what's expected ofher, versus her growing feelings for Humphrey. (This is no spoiler, thetrailers practically give away the fact that they end up together)But the nicest, most unexpected surprise, is the sub-plot that developsconcerning Kate's younger sister Lilly, and Garth of the opposing wolfpack. Garth comes across pretty narcissistic at first but, we come tofind he's actually a really, really good guy. This. This wasunexpected. And, although I'm sure you've figured out by now what I'mhinting at regarding a sub-plot, you really should watch the film andsee the character development and depth of these characters that isrevealed over the film. It really is quite touching. I do count myselfas a Lilly fan now. Really adorable character. And I just LOVE Kate'smom. Seriously, she says many unexpected, un-politically correctthings, and its just hilarious! I'm sure you too will find much to likein the way these characters are designed. In regards to plot, I find that, despite the fact that the film itselfis based on a stereotypical, done-to-death idea...it does it in anunexpected way. While the film is not original, the charactersthemselves, are. It's full of heart, it's full of fantastic, beautifulmoments. Many things are predictable throughout the film, but manythings are not. So it is by no means a bad movie. It is actually a"good" movie with moments of "greatness". And it's one that I honestlywould not mind purchasing and owning. You'll notice the very poor rating the users of IMDb have given thisfilm. Don't just look at that number and shrug it off. Don't look atthe trailers and think that this is another hunk of junk cheapanimation re- hash of old ideas. Give it a chance. You'll find lots tolike in this film.Now. Apparently this was a low budget film so, the animation does haveroom for improvement. It's jerky at times and, has more of a "videogame" feel to it, than the lush, detailed 3D animation we are used tofrom the likes of, for example, Legend of the Guardians. This movieisn't trying to be legendary. But it is trying to be funny andheartwarming, and if you give it a chance, it will make you smile. It'snot perfect, but there's nothing here that honestly makes me cringe. And believe me, I cringe easily at stupid plot ideas.So. Go watch this movie, give it a chance and an open mind. Perhaps, like me, you just might find reason to love it.

The Vidiot Reviews...

Alpha and OmegaGift shopping for a she-wolf must be difficult, since they already owna permanent fur coat.Fortunately, the male wolf in this animated movie isn't expected topurchase any luxuries for his she-wolf.A pair of polar opposite wolves from Jasper National Park, Kate (HaydenPanettiere) and Humphrey (Justin Long), are relocated to a park inIdaho where they are expected to repopulate the wolf species.Desperate to return to their home–where both of their wolf packs arewarring over communal hunting grounds–Kate and Humphrey seek the travelguidance of a French-Canadian goose (Larry Miller).Ill-conceived and poorly animated, Alpha and Omega is schlocky at best. The story is familiar, the subject matter is abnormal and the musicalnumbers featuring the wolves singing and dancing on their hindquartersis off-putting.Besides, why would a couple of hungry wolves ever return to Canada whenAmericans are so much plumper? It had potential, but was poorly executed.

Normally, I happen to be a fan of animated movies, they allowcreativity to shine since there isn't the human (actors/actresses)limitation. With Alpha and Omega, I could have seen it coming throughas being a pretty decent movie, the story was cliché and expected butsometimes that is nice when it is properly executed. In this case, itwas not properly executed. The movie was far too short for the special relationship between thetwo wolfs to develop at a proper rate, instead of having 1 small momentwhich decidedly leads to love and a romeo and Juliet esqué forbiddenlove. What became extremely bothersome (not counting Kate's mother'srandom and unwarranted psychotic behaviour) was how pretty okay all theother wolves were with this, after nearly going to war, to just snuggleup and be buddies because someone got a little hurt.

Waste of time, also found out this was OUTSOURCED to India!

Much like the quality of work I get from my offshore teams, this wasbelow par. Again, you get what you pay for. Maybe because I didn't seethis movie in 3D it was bad. But if it takes 3D make characters notfeel so two-dimensional, then the movie is not worth it. Anyhow, just the fact this movie was off shored made me laughhistorically as I see the same low quality delivered here as I do inthe documents, analysis and other work I typically get from offshore. If it requires thought, pay someone to do the work.Strange, you must have 10 lines just to post a review. I have verylittle to say about this movie. It did not move me. It brought menothing new. The plot was weak. Have I hit 10 lines as yet ?

A GREAT MOVIE

This movie is outstanding. It really gave me a wolf perpective. It is ONE of my favorite movies yet.I really recommend this book for anyone who loves wolves. This movie is even fine for kids.

Not just kids' stuff

To cash on the popularity of newly discovered animated movies and therising popularity of Alpha and Omega is viewed as a cash cow. What acon game!!! With regards to the story, it simply fails to connect withthe children. A simple linear story could have been identifiable withkids, but the story starts off on a wrong note. Even my son feltdisenchanted within 30-minutes. As for me, the movie seemed to be arehash of Lion King.Well, the secret which has been unveiled now throws quite some surpriseas it is revealed that the animation film Alpha and Omega is neither anIndian product nor has it been made in collaboration with anInternational animation house. Instead, Percept Picture Company hasclaimed the rights of a US film that goes by the name of Alpha andOmega.Meanwhile, the buzz is that Akshay Kumit will be dancing to the latesttunes with supermodel Naomi Campbell for the shooting of a promotionalvideo for Alpha and Omega. Joining them will be his wife Twinkle andBollywood starlet Lara Dutta. The actor has already worked with a lotof Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Preston Routh and SnoopDogg for his other movies.

Cute and funny movie for the family

"Alpha and Omega" is a slap stick type of comedy and hilarious to watchfor younger families. My children, two boys ages 10 and 7 and my littlegirl who is 3, all love this movie. Older audiences can see theparallels to a "Romeo and Juliet" type of story, younger audiences justenjoy the comedy. My little girl gets into this movie very much, sheurges the animals to run when in danger and is happy and laughing whengood things happen. If you like movies like Lion King, Gnomeo & Juliet, and Rio then you will like this movie. I also like the fact that Idon't visualize Hayden Panattiere every time I watch the movie. Oftenwith movies I visualize the person whose voice I hear like AshtonKutcher in Open Season.

Worst animated film *ever*

While the story itself may have have had some coherence originally. That was quickly stripped away by this total waste of time and money.I would say that the animation looks like a couple of 9 year old kids found a program, but I know 9 year old kids that could do a much better job at both animation and character development. In reality it looks like Crest Animation was a startup that pulled folks off the street to work the buttons. I really can't express how truly horrible the animation is. For the technical minded, the animators knew nothing about slow-in/slow-out, overlapping, or idle movement.Character design and development are mostly non-existant, and given only cursory swipes here and there by the producers. Lionsgate, you should be ashamed of yourselves. If you still think that you should see this, that the trailer wasn't bad. Find the trailer online and watch it 30-40 times. You'll enjoy it more than attempting to sit through this bomb.

Great Movie...If You're Three

My preschooler accidentally ordered this movie OnDemand, and since itwas a kid movie I let it play instead of calling and canceling theorder. I will say this, it kept her attention. That is literally all Ican say in it's favor. Awful, clichéd, ridiculous tripe from start tofinish. The characters, totally unlikeable, every one. The situations, preposterous. You have to suspend your common sense at every turn. Thejokes, stupid. They wisecrack at the worst possible moments. You canhear the writers in every word, contriving their lame jokes andunbelievable plot points. I groaned out loud several times, neverlaughed. It's like it was written by a class of 4th graders, with it'ssquirmy sex talk and predictable story line. With so many truly greatanimated films to choose from, this has no reason to even exist. Stayaway, unless you are three and just want to look at the doggies for anhour.

GREAT!!!

Great movie! Imagine having your heart ripped out, run over and then put back togther agin. It makes you realizee how hope is all around. Love, action, drama and these are just of the words that describe what this movie is all about. Buy this movie you will not be sorry. Do not give up on your dreams one day it might just come true. The end might be might look bleek just keep going you will cry guranteed. The End.

Alpha and Omega: Great title, mediocre movie

To tell you the truth I was excited a bit for this movie. It had anappealing title, some good animation in the commercials, and from whatI heard, some good voice acting and story as well (though really, howhard is voice acting anyway?). What I saw was not that. Not thatentirely. Except for the title. That's still cool.Okay, so the animation first. I love the look of the charactersthemselves, but the animation is "meh" at best. Nothing I haven't seenbefore, and not really good at parts. Their fur is actually not likehow Dreamworks or Pixar would ever make it, and looks like it is gluedon with no real existence at all. And since when do manes look likebird feathers? The good parts were in the more acrobatic scenes, butit's not anything spectacular either. The story is like taking all the movie story clichés (examples:anthropomorphic animals, no food conflict, forbidden love, etc.) andmixing them into an animated potluck. No, not potluck, potUNluck. There's no lucky catch that saves this movie. Also, what really tickedme off were also some of the funniest jokes/scenes for me. The sexreferences. I mean, COME ON, it's a kid's movie. Those writers pushedit dangerously close in my opinion. For example, when the bird guys(pretty funny dudes, too.) see Humphrey and Kate sleeping in thatforest scene, one says "Maybe it's a bad time" and the other says"Actually, it's a perfect time. Heh heh." or something like that. Um,perverted birds much? The jokes are "meh" as well, pulling off of "buttjokes" mainly in the beginning. I sat there telling myself "It's goingto get funnier" through the first quarter of the movie. Yeah. And itdid. A little. The funniest scene in my opinion is near the end whenHumphrey says "They sent us there to repopulate." and makes that face, then Kate's mom tries to kill him. Funny stuff, but again, that wassort of a sex joke. Is this KIDS movie's funny parts really pulling offof stuff KIDS won't understand, or shouldn't hear? Really? This is whatI call a "rental" movie, you know, something to waste an hour and ahalf on those movie-perfect Saturday nights when no one wants to go tobed and will watch just about anything to stay awake. However, to makea true movie-perfect night, you'll need a true perfect movie, and thisis not it.
