On a golden afternoon, young Alice follows a White Rabbit, who disappears down a nearby rabbit hole. Quickly following him, she tumbles into the burrow - and enters the merry, topsy-turvy world of Wonderland! Memorable songs and whimsical escapades highlight Alices journey, which culminates in a madcap encounter with the Queen of Hearts - and her army of playing cards!
Movie Photos:
We have taken some photos of "Alice in Wonderland". They represent actual movie quality.
Our family purchased the 2004 2 disk version. This is the first time the bonus material on Disk 2 gets played way more than the movie in our house. The bonus disk contains the entire first Walt Disney televised special. It was aired Christmas Day 1950. Walt himself brings out the magic mirror and the fun begins. Wonderful color animation of Mickey and the gang as well as musical clips from classic Disney films. Pure family entertainment. My kids love it. That's good enough for me.
Okay. This isn't a bad movie. In fact, it's good as children's movies go.This is certainly fine to entertain the young ones. However, I'm the kind ofperson who likes movies with some kind of plot or story. Alice in Wonderlanddoesn't have any. Or at least it has very little. It's just Alice stumblinginto one oddball character after another. In this sense, almost everybody isa minor character. And Alice herself is a strange one. She's practically awhiny brat who can't sing. I mean she REALLY can't sing. Many of the songsare a tad awful. If you're looking for a decent babysitter, this will do.It's charming enough. However, if you're an animation buff, this may be abit too strange to watch.
This review is from: Alice in Wonderland (Masterpiece Edition) (DVD) I haven't purchase anything from Amazon before and everything went just fine. The DVD arrived very quickly and in bradnew condition just like it said that it would with no problems at all! My daughter loves the movie.
Disney tries again to redevelop classic books the Disney way but failsmiserably. This has got one of the strangest movie from Walt Disney. It's so weird and really clumsy. It doesn't capture the heart of theoriginal Lewis Carroll novel. The plot is predictable, the dialogue iswrong and the characters are so stereotyped like Alice and the Dodoplus the minor characters like the card guards are creepy. On the wholeit is better than "Cinderella" (choke) but this doesn't change mattersvery much atoll! As least the movie this time around has some funnybits like the Tea Party and the monster in the White Rabbit's cottageplus there's is no bits that are just saccharine or paint by numbers orcharacters that are such a pain it's impossible to hate them! Overall, the movie is no good and I say that Disney films back then could onlyget worse before they got better!3/10
I just loved watching this special edition for it was in perfect condition. This brought back memories of watching such a classic
With its tense, beautiful, hilarious and exciting moments, this Disneyfilm is not only good on the books (mainly the first one) but alsoexceedingly entertaining, especially for slightly older children andadults who love Disney (the reason for this is that it may be veryupsetting for young children, but not all young children). With lots ofsimilar things to the book, plus the good work of Walt Disney, theanimators and the actors, this makes a very enjoyable Disney film! :-)While Alice's mother/sister is teaching the young Alice historyoutdoors, the young girl complains that she can hardly pay attention toa book without pictures and tells her cat Dinah how she would love togo to a world of her very own, where everything would be the way shewanted it to be. Suddenly, as if in a dream (which it really is), awhite rabbit comes hopping along the river bank and curious, Alicefollows it into a huge rabbit hole, where she falls into Wonderland...With good characters, themes and events chosen from the book (with onlya few left out) and two characters and a poem from the second book byLewis Carroll, this Disney film is sure to delight many, especially (assaid at the top) slightly older children and adults who like Disneyfilms.Enjoy "Alice In Wonderland"! :-)
This review is from: Alice in Wonderland (Masterpiece Edition) (DVD) I was searching everywhere for it couldn't find it anywhere so I had to buy it online, this place was great recommended
I just got my copy of the new "Alice In Wonderland" DVD and the restoration is beautiful!!! Much better picture and sound quality than the previous DVD. Some of the extras are great as well. I truly didn't expect for them to rerelease this movie so soon, but I am so glad they did! It is one of my all time favorite Disney films and very under-rated. I can't wait for more classic Disney films to be released with restoration like this. I've heard that "Dumbo" may be one of them, so keep an eye out. That one really needs it too!
This review is from: Alice in Wonderland (Masterpiece Edition) (DVD) I was quite hesitant to buy yet ANOTHER re-release of this often overlooked classic, but the parties responsible for this magnificent transfer have truly outdone themselves. This film has NEVER looked so pristine, so colorful- it was truly as if I was watching it for the first time.Aside from the superfluous Disney trailers/ etc., the extras are quite thorough and informative. A must for any Disney purist.... So, where's "Cinderella" and "Bambi"?
This version on Alice in Wonderland is the best version of the classicbook. What impressed me most was the mix of "Wonderland" and "LookingGlass". The animation was the best element of the movie, with agorgeous sequence in the song "Golden Afternoon", which was the bestsong in my opinion. Not to mention the watercolour-painting likelandscapes of the English countryside. The songs, while not asmemorable as later Disney films, were very pleasant to the ear, with anappreciative nostalgic feel. The characters were what make this film,as they are memorable and engaging. However, Alice sometimes was alittle bland, but that is the only weakness here, and Kathryn Beaumontdid voice her beautifully. The Cheshire Cat and White Rabbit were verywell done, likewise with the Mad Hatter and March Hare. In fact TheCheshire Cat is my favourite character, and Sterling Holloway shonevoicing him. The best vocal characterisation was the Queen of Hearts, voiced by Disney regular Verna Felton who did a great job. I know theymissed the Mock Turtle and the Griffin out, but if they were included, the overall film would've been too long. In conclusion, an imaginativeand solid version of a great book! 9/10 Bethany Cox
The DVD was fine, but the description of the produce is not correct. I returned the item twice because it did not have the slipcase cover as it is described neither both time that the item was sent it to me!
Now this is what I'm talking about. I do have one of the original classic versions of Disney's: Alice In Wonderland on DVD. This; however, is what I've been looking for all along! The film is still a beautiful little story that Disney animation brought to life of Lewis Carroll's classic tale of a little curious girl with a wide imagination called Alice. Who one day enters a world called Wonderland. And upon entering she finds herself growing up, growing small, meeting unforgettable characters such as: The Mad Hatter, The Caterpillar, The Cheshire Cat, Tweedledee/Tweedledum, The White Rabbit, and everyone's favorite mean queen The Queen of Hearts. Not to mention the talking and singing flowers & the loveable story of The Walrus & The Carpenter. It's all about the beautiful extra's in this DVD. Generally if I'm happy with the old version of the DVD I don't buy another similar version. This was one of those exceptions - not too mention it's Disney. Mainly because it has: Thru the Mirror (my all time favorite short original Mickey Mouse feature), all sorts of games with songs & more, trivia, a new additional song, An Alice Comedy, Operation Wonderland (which is featured on the original VHS/DVD version I believe), & just tons more! If your a fan of Alice in Wonderland this is the DVD to buy!!!
This review is from: Alice in Wonderland (Masterpiece Edition) (DVD) Product was found to be in the condition advertised. Arrived swiftly. Perfectly satisfied with service and product.
Nice! I thought this one could not match my expectation. I never watched this movie before but after I bought and watched it, I personally think this is another one good Disney classic to be put in my dvd library.
If you are a true Disney fan you have to have this for your collection. I had this on VHS for years and finally waited for the Special Edition. I didn't want to replace my VHS Disney collection to all DVD but when you see all the special features on the new DVD it's hard to resist.Little ones may find the movie a little startling but it is a classic.
Not only is it great to see the classic in such beautiful form, but the bonus features are worth the price itself. The interactive Mad Hatter's Tea Party is so much fun. He is Ed Wynn! Wait to select any choices and see Alice and the Mad Hatter get impatient with you. Very fun for all ages. Bonus features are great, including some things that were left out of the original. Really a great buy.
FINALLY!!! I have been waiting for this to be "cleand up" and put in 5.1 surround and/or DTS. This by far is my favorite Disney film. In it's release date, 1951, it was hugely criticized. I believe I once read that Walt himself had apologized to the American public for it, but that was probably the "times" back then. There are so many messages and references here, this wrapped up around Lewis Carroll's original story with Disney's great animation that many people will agree with me... you may love it or hate it, but it's definitely not a boring flick. :)
I don't remember if I saw this movie as a small child or not. My family and I rented and bought Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (should have been called Return to Wonderland). Since we could not remember if any of us had seen this version, we decided to rent it. I have to say - I was a bit disappointed in it. Yes, I was tainted in looking for things like the Mad Hatter as compared to Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter. Putting all that aside, I still found the movie to wandering all over the place which was somewhat hard to follow a good portion of the time. I did like the Chesshire cat from both versions although they were quite different. Before anybody berates or flames my review, I was watching this for a frame of reference as it relates to Tim burton's film. My best advice is - if you watch Tim Burton's first , don't watch this. If you see this first, I don't think you lose anything by watching Tim Burton's afterwards. However, I don't recommend the same audience between the two movies. Tim Burton's follow-up is defintely for an older crowd.
Even as a little girl, when this first came out, I was disappointed in it. Disney later admitted that he undertook his version before reading Alice, and discovered that he didn't like the main character! It shows.Disney's Alice is not the critical observer Carroll created at all. She is indistinguishable from all of that era's Disney heroines - helplessly feminine and mindless, but sweet. Thank goodness everyone has moved on.Unfortunately this is a film that (like Wuthering Heights) had yet to be made. But maybe that's not so bad. Alice is all about narrative, nonsense, and a subtle humor that makes the book suitable for reading at any age. Read the book.
The movie is great... I have no problems with that. What was bad was that when I received my order it was very obvious that it was a fake copy. It was not an original Disney Copy. I was very upset. I have never ordered anything from that seller again. BE CAREFUL with who you order stuff from. When you find a good seller stick with them.
