We have taken some photos of "3rd Rock from the Sun - Season Three". They represent actual movie quality.
I love this show. John Lithgow, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, & Jane Curtin giveexcellent performance. The funniest people on the show are of course KirstenJohnson, French Stewart, and Jan Hooks. Kirsten plays Sally Solomon a 6-foottall, sexy model type, who really was a guy on her home planet and was agreat warrior. French plays Harry, the stupid and hilarious guy who is thesomewhat communication reciever from The Big, Giant Head. and Jan playsVicki, Harry's lover. Jan Hooks is such a fox! I give 3rd Rock from theSun(who you haven't guessed, they mean Earth, i'm sure you already knowthat) 10 stars on the jeff Scale! Thank you drive through.
3rd Rock From the Sun always had something different about it.Something new. That no other show had. I could never really figure itout.Until the series finale, at the end, where their holding each otherbefore they leave for the Home Planet, like a family.People talked a lot about how funny, and original the show is. But it'smuch more than that. For 6 years, we watched aliens disguised as humans try to fit intosociety as a fake family. But what they didn't realize, was that theywere a real family. The show follows four aliens, Dick (Lithgow), Tommy (Gordon-Levitt),Harry (Stewart), and Sally (Johnston) on a mission to discover theircustoms on Earth. Dick is the High Commander of the mission. Tommy isthe Information Officer of the mission. Sally is the Security Officer. And Harry.....has a connection thing in his head so the Big Giant Head(their leader) can send messages to them. The show contains great acting by John Lithgow, French Stewart, JosephGordon-Levitt, Kristen Johnston as the alien family. Jane Curtin, WayneKnight, Elmarie Wendel, Simbi Khali were great supporting actors, too.The only thing that I can really find wrong with the show is that itdid take a downward slope in the sixth season. It wasn't as funny, andsome of the jokes fell flat, but it was just as entertaining andenjoyable as ever. And the series finale was the best 3rd Rock episodesince the fourth season. If you want to see a show with great acting, writing, an original storywith creative plots for each episode. Then watch this show before allothers.
MILD SPOILER "3rd Rock From The Sun" is in general a good series thatis very funny. There were a few episodes that I liked very much. -SPOILER - For example the episode when they dreamed for the first time. That episode one one of my favorites. The cinematography was excellentin that episode, and I think that episode has cost quite a bit ofmoney. But there were also some episodes that were not as good. I don'tthink everyone will appreciate all the humor, because some of it may bea bit too vulgar for some people. The ending I also didn't like somuch, because it was a bit fast and abrupt. In general a fairly goodTV-series with very good acting!
This is one of the best shows put out! It really feels like your in atheater watching a play. 'Dick' is the best character, hes funny andbossy and quite the simpleton when he wants to be. I love the way heexpresses his feelings through his facial expressions. I would beentertained just watching him, with no sound. and 'Harry' is definitelythe next best character. i love the way he dresses...the fur coat andhis suspenders and bright shirts. plus, hes very funny. he gives offthe impression that he is the youngest alien even though tommy is. ilove how innocent and sweet he seems. 3rd Rock is not your A-typical show, it doesn't deal with real life andregular families and friends. every character in this show is weird andcrazy and doing their own thing. i think its better this way. i gettired of watching the same old shows with a husband and a wife.problems with the kids or work or each other. its very refreshing tosee a show where they have crazy situations and answers. plus it fun tosee what it might be like for an alien to come to earth and not knowhow to deal with their bodies, or relationships, or school and work.
I ai'nt never seed so much funny stuff in all my borne days. Just likethatshow my mama used to watch before the drink took her.....Mama's Family.Uh-huh....done takes a lot to get me laughin' but that there alien show doit. Oh, and I like wrestling too.
3rd Rock From The Sun is a sitcom that ran for 5 years, i have watchedalmost every episode, its funny, it has great characters, each characterhasgreat funny moments. Kristen Johnston (Sally Solomon)with her good looksmakes this show much better, John Lithgow (Dick Solomon) is the funniest,Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Tommy Solomon) has his great bits, the only one ihateis French Stewart (Harry Solomon) because of his weird eyes which looklikethey are always closed and he isn't funny.Overall i give 3rd Rock From The Sun 8/10.
This review is from: 3rd Rock from the Sun: Season 3 (DVD) At, what could be considered, a rather dismal time in my life these DVD presentations of "Third Rock" have brought me many hours of much needed laughter. I'm not just talking about "polite chuckles" I'm talking about laugh out loud from the gut kind of laughter. What a cast of wonderful actors this show had. John Lithgow, as Dick Solomon and Jane Curtin, as Mary Albright are so very funny leading a stupendous cast in some of the funniest episodes that I have ever seen in any television presentation. (I've been watching T.V. comedies since Milton Berle and Sid Caesar). In addition to Lithgow and Curtin there are great comedy performances by Kristen Johnston, as Sally, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as Tommy, and MOST OF ALL French Stewart as Harry-no one on earth is any funnier than he is. Series three continues the immense laughter the first two series delivered-if anything it is funnier than the first two series. See the previous review for a great overview of each program in series three. If you want to see one of the best American Comedies ever at its very best buy Series Three!
Even "Alf" looks bad when compared to this! This is one of the mostinventive, funny, and appealing shows ever made. The whole cast is simplywonderful, couldn't be better. Every show is jammed with laughs. Of allalien-based comedies, this is the best ever made, period. This one will berunning for a long time.
The show contains great sarcasm and it's humor is often more thanhilarious. But I also find the 'cultural tone' of it sometimesdisturbingly pointy, which is disappointing and not funny at all.Pity.Harry is my favorite character - I especially remind a scene somewhereat the end of season one where he goes to a bar and orders a bottle ofbeer ....And I find Nina very sexy. And: somehow I can't find information about a place called Rutherfordin Ohio.
It's a low down dirty shame about 3rd Rock. While I've been a faithfulviewer going on five years or so, the show never got the appreciation itdeserved. Sure it won its share of Emmies, but that doesn't mean anybodywatched it. It's a Ross and Rachel world out there, and the brilliance of3rd Rock was often overshadowed by soap operas disguised assitcoms. But 3rd rock is rollicking comedy and nothing but. John Lithgow is simplyone of our best in one of his best roles as Dick. If you like this show, Istrongly suggest you see some of his movie work such as The World AccordingTo Garp, the movie I hate to love and love to hate, but Lithgow'sperformance falls on the love side of the scale.Gangly Kristen Johnston plays Sally. The towering beauty and hilariousflake. She adds some amazing physical comedy to the show's ensemble. Herphysical presence is so amusing she can crack you up just by standing there.I can't wait to see her in other comedic roles, my main fear being she'llfall into toilet humor instead of something sophisticated.French Stewart as Harry is more or less the cute little pet and addstremendously to the show. He acts as what at first might seem like the dumbmember of the alien four, but in fact, his idiocy is what exposes that ofthe people that surround him in how they deal with him. Finally, teenager Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tommy is most impressive in thefact that he plays at the same level of the rest of the ensemble. The showhasn't used him as an idle, but as another resource for more of the socialobservations with which the show is bursting at the seems. The four play together as a remarkable comedy team, each with their ownquirks that evoke criticism on society. The satire is complete with theaddition of the stereotypes they encounter every day. Jane Curtin as Mary,Dick's love interest, tries to appear normal and show the Solomon's thatthey aren't but is really as bizarre as anyone else on the show. Thenthere's Nina, the secretary; Don, the cop of Sally's dreams; the lovablenympho landlord, Miss Dubcek; and countless other students, colleagues, peers and various characters that teach the Solomons, themselves and usabout society (I love Judith.) The show is as observant as any I've everseen and equally funny with it's slapstick, zany dialogue, unusually usualsituations and running gags.My feeling is that the main source of 3rd Rock's brilliance is it's mockingclassic sitcom formula. It takes the perpetually utilized premise of placinga group of outsiders in the middle of a "normal" group of people andcompletely turns it around. Unlike a show like the Beverly Hillbillies wherewe principally laugh at the Clampets, we're laughing it the Solomon's ANDthe people around them. In 3rd Rock, nobody is normal and there is no truenorm, which is much truer to the world in which we live. There are all theclassic patterned events from sitcoms (meeting people, dating, finding one'spurpose, and the trials with which every day sitcom life presents you) butnone of these situations lack a deeper meaner on 3rd Rock. Then there's thelittle things. Aspects such as the fact that there is no couch in the livingroom and that all the characters' names are those which one would have foundon an older sitcom (Who's name is Sally anymore, really? Then Tom, Dick andHarry- the quintessential normal trio) are just some of the ways of thecreators screw with our established expectations of primetime.I love this show, and think it will endure in syndication long after we'veforgotten about Veronica's Closet or whatever other weeknight carp they'rehanding to us these days; I don't pay much attention to it myself. LikeM*A*S*H, I Love Lucy, All in the Family and other purposeful shows that havebeen with us for decades, 3rd Rock From the Sun always has meaning andhilarity at the same time. That's sure enough proof that this is more thanyour average hip singles in the city tripe and that 3rd Rock will stay apart of our society since it has done such a good job of mockingit.
"3rd Rock from the Show" is a very funny comedy series about a group ofaliens disguised as humans. John Lithgow (one of the most underratedactors of all-time) is fabulous as Dick, the confused and overlydramatic alien posing as a college professor (I think - it's been solong since I've seen this on TV!). Sally (Kristen Johnson), Tommy(Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Harry (French Stewart) all join in on thefun as his clueless, bumbling pals - Tommy is an old alien in ateenager's body, Sally is a male in a female's body (or so we are ledto believe). Harry is a walking radio who receives incomingtransmissions from their home planet. It may sound silly but that's the entire point! It has some very funnyquotes like, "Last week I didn't even know the difference between BillPullman and Bill Paxton!" Dick: "Pullman is the fat one." "I know thatnow!" (or something like that). A lot of it has to do with pop cultureand as a result you may have to be American to "get" some of the jokes. One of the top ten greatest television shows of all time. Miserablyunderrated. It gained a strong cult following while on TV and wasawarded with many Emmy nominations but never really become assuccessful or popular as "Seinfeld," etc. Too bad.
The show has a nifty premise, one I've always enjoyed: Aliens (disguised ashumans) roaming around earth, discovering the quirks of human behavior. Itcreates a magic irony, since humans are often very incredulous about life onother planets. And when they see aliens, who look exactly like humans, howare they supposed to tell the difference? So they watch these aliens gothrough all sorts of bizarre behaviors, and assume they're idiots (humanidiots), making all sorts of witty wisecracks. One movie that used thisgreat premise is "What Planet Are You From?" with Garry Shandling. Isuggest you check out that movie, it's a riot! Now, John Lithgow is an ecclectic actor, who has good taste. Even some ofthe greatest actors choose a lame script now and then, but Lithgow is verydiscerning in his choice of roles. He has an extensive background in thetheater, and he won't settle for any script his agent gives him. So when Ifound out Lithgow was going to star in a sitcom, I was pretty sure it wasgoing to be hilarious. Sitcoms are usually hit-or-miss (with a lot moremisses), but if John Lithgow is the star, this oughtta be a winner! The first couple of seasons were really good. There were duds here andthere, but frequently the writing was sharp. And Lithgow's incredible comicperformance made it all the more watchable. I would say that hisperformance was above par, compared to the actors on most sitcoms who seemto be reading off cue cards. Lithgow treated his role as Dick, the headalien, as well as he would any stage role. And he was an absolute riot! Ifthey were to cast any other actor as Dick, it would be a sin. Thesupporting cast was pretty good, though Joseph Gordon Levitt had a slowstart. I guess he started the show in his pre-teens. His acting was weakat the time. But after a while, his acting skills improved. By the way, that actress who played his girlfriend in the later episodes was really hot. She's the same one who played his girl in "Ten Things I Hate About You." French Stewart was often funny, though his antics sometimes got annoying, and the same went for Kristen Johnston. There were some very amusing gueststars as well. The William Shatner episodes were hilarious. Kathy Bates, one of my favorite actresses, also had a funny appearance. And even DomDeluise made a short appearance, playing the father (for which he is in reallife) of Michael Deluise. But in the later seasons, the writing got weaker and weaker. So it was timefor the show to end. That's right, don't expect a boo-hoo from me. I'm notsure exactly why it got cancelled, but I remember Lithgow saying on hisappearance on Conan that he became more disinterested in the scripts as theshow approached its final run, and that he just couldn't do deadpan comedy. That proves Lithgow has good taste. All good things come to an end, including this show. But if you can catchthe reruns, it would be wise to check them out, because the early seasonswere the best. My score: 7 (out of 10)--for the first few seasons 3 (out of 10)--for the last seasons
I absolutely love 3rd Rock! John Lithgow is amazing. He is so expressive and funny I could watch him all day! This season was a great one!
Before seeing this show the only experience I had had with John Lithgowwas seeing him play the bad guy in many movies! He was so exceptionalat playing a despicable human being that I must admit I hadreservations about how well he could pull off a comedy! I waspleasantly surprised! He does it great! 3rd Rock is a great show aboutcultural assimiliation and how one family must appropriate theirbeliefs and ideologies to fit into another culture. Part parody, partsatire, completely funny! The only sore point of the show is the trulyawful performance by Joseph Gorden Levitt - he is a horrible actor andhe often brings down his cast members!
I was ready to cry last night when I watched the cast of aliens leaveforever. I never cry. I'll miss them so much. I was hoping for ahappier ending. Dick and Mary get married and she is pregnant. Don andSally also get married and Sally is also pregnant. Vicki leaves the BigGiant head for Harry. All in all, it would have been a happier endingto an original sitcom which was neglected by the network who favoredWill and Grace and Friends which are two very unoriginal shows. ThirdRock was different and fun to watch. I love every episode and will misseveryone in the cast. I wish them the very best in the future. Maybethere will be a reunion movie in the future when they come back. Irefuse to believe they ever actually left earth permanently. Thisbecame their home. Third Rock from the Sun's first season will bereleased on DVD this summer and I am order on the list to get it.
It was awesome to see these episodes again and in their original language, I'm from Mexico City living in the USA and enjoying this lovely culture and people. The 3er Rock from the sun really ROCKS!!!! Thanks, I'm getting the whole collection!!! Also, thank you for the captions are great for ESL students.
I have watched 3rd rock probably twice and I can't believe that I satthrough it that long. This is about as dumb as you canget.Who would even put this garbage on the air? Everything from the plot, writing, and characters is terrible. The plot for one thing is veryunbelievable. They're aliens and I know that it is not supposed to be veryserious, but come on! The casting must have been done in about ten minutesbecause these actors just can't act. Will somebody please tell me why atalented actor like John Lithgow stoop to the likes of this pitiful show? The writing is so un-funny. Period. And are we really supposed to believethat a couple of aliens are living amongst us where they sit on a rooftop?I'm sorry but you couldn't pay me to sit through the torture of watchingthis for all the money in the world. Well, maybe we can negotiate.
3rd Rock From the Sun can be very funny at times. Most of the good jokesaresupplied by John Lithgow, who really makes the show worthwhile. Hisupper-class routine always brings a smile. The other characters such asJaneCurtin and Kristen Johnsen are good but I find French Stewart to be veryannoying. But still, this is passable and adequate entertainment that'seasygoing, never vulgar, and often very original.
AWFUL ,plain bad, bad, bad. Silly stupid infantile humor right on par withFull House,Family Matters.Ridiculous plot to the show borders on plan ninefrom outer space mentality. John Lithgow has got to be the most irritatingactor Ive ever seen. He always plays some jerk or pain in the ass youwannasee dropped off a building. This show was total CRAP.
OK on the surface, the premise of this show is a bit absurd. But it'sthe fact that they are from another world and are completely cluelessabout human behavior that makes this show hilarious. 3rd Rock is one ofthe funniest shows ever and the casting could not have been better. Ifyou didn't get it, try watching a few more episodes. Everyone of the 4main characters is great. And Mary and Don are great also. The samepeople who made That 70's Show made this but this is much funnier. Thehumor here is not subdued but loud and obnoxious but this really works.Joseph Gordon Levitt (Tommy) is starting to take off with a bunch ofmovies. It'd be great to see French Stewart in something. AND PLEASEJOHN LITHGOW , STICK WITH COMEDY. DON"T WASTE YOUR TALENT on DRAMA.He'd be great to replace Steve Carell.
