Jane is career-oriented and secretly in love with her employer, George. She spends much of her time as a bridesmaid, and has 27 dresses as evidence. Then her structured and ordered life comes unhinged when her younger sister, Tess, re-enters her life, and a reporter, Kevin, is attracted to her. Kevin decides to publish Janes secret and her overwhelming wardrobe. Things get even more complicated when Jane finds out she may end up losing George to none other than her very own sister.
27 Dresses dutifully privileges its formulaic plot over its stick-figure characters, slapping a happy ending on a setup that, say, Happiness director Todd Solondz could have gone to town on.
DVD came looking great and works wonderfully. Thank you for such a smooth and quick transaction.
there's a desire to see their characters displaced into a better film with more on its mind than to be better than it should be because of its casting director.
I have stated many, many times that I am sick to death of unoriginal, cheesy, and ridiculously formulaic movies. Ladies and gentlemen, thiscould very well be the worst one yet.27 Dresses stars Katharine Heigl in the role that nearly made medislike the actress altogether. In 27 Dresses, she plays a girl who isobsessed with weddings and that right there is enough to turn me off tothis movie. I watch a movie like this to remind me what happens whenformula is upplayed and originality is downplayed. 27 Dresses is whathappens when people run out of ideas but want to make a movie aboutthat anyway.Katharine Heigl's character is completely uninteresting. Worst thanthat, probably. What I hate about a character like this is that this isthe type of character that relies entirely on sexism and stereotypingto try to make her a round character. This is the type of film thatsells on the idea that all women are completely obsessed with weddingsand that's what I hate about it, true or not. This is all 27 Dresses isabout. Wedding obsession. All the female characters care more about thewedding than marriage or the guy she's marrying, including theconclusion of the picture.Still, there came a time when my hatred for this film became complete. This occurred during the last twenty minutes of the movie when Istarted calling out the very lines the characters were saying. I'm noteven kidding. This film is so predictable that the words coming out ofthe characters mouths can be said by the audience before thecharacters.Yes, I hated 27 Dresses. I didn't like any of the characters, jokes, acting, dialogue, story, or premise. I will give it a tiny bit ofcredit because there were about two funny moments in the picture, butthat's not nearly enough to make this film bearable.1/10
Always the brides-maid, never the bride. This movie is a comedy you will love. As a girl is inlove with her boss, something gets in the way of that. Her sister and him meet and that was it. They decide to get married and she's the maid-of-honor. She can't stand that her sister is marrying her dream man but she tells everyone she's okay with it and she's happy for them. A famous wedding reporter is doing an artical on it and he falls inlove with her. As she humilliates her sister and the wedding gets called off, her boss calls her and she is his dat6e for a party. He isn't what she expected and she goes off and finds who she really loves. Her dream man turned out to be th repoter and one day she put on her 28th dress and she has her fairytale wedding.
It's not one for the ages, but this comedy about the 'perpetual bridesmaid' suggests a romantic marriage between star and audience that could last and last.
This movie was great! I saw it twice. Although many male critics havesaid the movie was too cliché and predictable, I didn't find it so. Myfavourite parts where: obviously when Marsden and Heigl sing Bennie andthe Jets, drunken and on the table in the bar, barefoot and dancing, and when her new "datebook" rings with "Bennie and the Jets" as theringtone. Heigl plays Jane, the perfect bridesmaid, who has never, eversaid no to anyone. In love with weddings since she was 8, she cuts outall the wedding stories written by Malcomb Doyle (Marsden), herfavourite writer. When her kid sister Tess falls in love with Jane'sboss, with whom she is secretly in love, and she ends up planning thewedding, the mysterious writer Kevin shows up and tries desperately (inan awesome, cynical way) to secure a page in her life. I thought it was an altogether feel-good movie that was a bitpredictable but wonderful all the same. Marsden created a role thatwasn't Prince Charming or show host, but the aggravating, cynical, perceptive writer who showed Jane how her life could have been and howshe shouldn't have settled for what she got in life. They were aperfect match for each other.A great movie that will join my DVDs when it comes out.Fav. lines: "I feel like I just found out that my favourite love songwas written about a sandwich!" -Heigl "I'll pencil you in. Oh, butlook! You already did EVERY Saturday FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!" -Heiglfav. line of all: "I cried like a baby at the Keller wedding." -Marsden
`27 Dresses' is a pretty basic chick flick about a woman (Jane) who is always a bridesmaid and never a bride. She has been a bridesmaid at 27 other weddings and has become an expert at helping a bride in her hour of need and yet she still hankers after her own `Mr Right'; and like any self respecting chick flick this film then follows her as she struggles to finds that man. Jane's sister throws a spanner in the works when she becomes engaged to the man Jane also loves. There is also a reporter who is writing about her sisters wedding who also writes about Jane`s long run of being a bridesmaid. That's the film in a nutshell and there's not a great deal more to it to be honest. Heigl plays the role of Jane well enough and James Marden plays the love interest without being too schmaltzy. This has a few laughs and a few more touching moments as well, so all the Rom-Com bases are covered. This is an easy going film and whilst it isn't ground breaking or exemplary in it's genre, it is decent enough to watch when you want to unwind and not think too much.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.
On Thursday, December 27, my friends and I went to the sneak preview of"27 Dresses". At first, I wasn't excited to see it because I thought itwould be just another cheesy romantic comedy, "chick-flick" if youwill. I was wrong. "27 Dresses" was a romantic comedy everyone couldenjoy. That's right! I said EVERYONE (including guys).Katherine Heigl is great in the film as Jane, the optimistic bridesmaidwho wants a shot of love for herself someday and feels the the 27bridesmaid dresses she keeps in her closet is a calling that its timefor her to get a dress of a different kind.Judy Greer, who's always "the best friend" in the movies, is verycomical and sassy as Katherine's friend Casey. At least she knows whatshe wants, but she's very compassionate and supportive to Janethroughout the film. One person, though, that I think stood out in this film, was JamesMarsden. I've always seen him in action movies ("X-Men" series and"Superman Returns) as a minor or supporting character, but I think thathe made the male lead of Kevin his own. Although he gets on Jane'snerves half the time, he always tends to put on a smile on her facebecause she knows that he's trying to get her to let go of the past andmove on to a possible future where her big day might come. Kevin's theguy you would want to confide in if something's troubling you or if youneed to dance to an Elton John song to get your groove back.If you should see any movie this new year, make a date with "27Dresses". You'll be happy that you did.
When the female lead is as annoying and is such a bad actress as this woman then you know your movie has big problems. Save your money and time and stay away from this movie.
I was wondering if any one could tell me where i could find the greyrobe that Katherine Heigel wore in "27 Dresses". I have lookedeverywhere it seems and had no luck. It looks like a knit robe but i amnot sure. If anyone could help me i would greatly appreciate it. It isa present for someone and she hasn't stopped talking about it since shesaw it in the movie. If you know of a site or someone who might knowplease inform me i am desperate to find this robe. Thank you! The moviewas a good movie. I didn't realize that there were that many uglybridesmaid dresses out there. I hopefully wont pick out something likethat when i get married.
Very briefly, this movie is rated PG-13. I am a mom of teens who would have been very uncomfortable viewing it with my own or any 13-year-old. I watched it with a 15-year-old and wondered if we are so numb or desensitized that we assume every teen over 13 years wants to see and hear about sex with strangers and getting drunk. As another reviewer said, this is a chick flick, yet quite a put down for women who aren't or don't want to be married. Maybe this just hit me the wrong way--I did not know any of the actors either so I had nothing to compare their acting ability to.
It's white-lace porn for girls of every age, and the way that it revels in that get-me-to-the-altar mood, to the point of making anyone who isn't getting married feel like a loser, is the picture's key selling point.
I got this movie and my poor husband rolled his eyes - a chick flick. We watched the movie and he was surprised it was pretty good. My daughter wanted to watch this movie because she is young and LOVES weddings. It had 2 make-out scences but no f-bombs so we let her watch it. My husband and I watched this movie 2 times in 24 hours and it held our attention. Very good actors, simple plot, characters who love to hate a perfit rainy weekend movie!
If you love romantic comedies, this movie is for you. I Loved it!! This is right up there with How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days and Sweet Home Alabama. One of the best movies that has came out ina while.
I saw this movie yesterday and i liked it alot. In my opinion Katherine Heigl and James Mardsen were REALLLLLLY good.... and her friend was funny. It was better than most movies like this. My favorite part was when they started singing... that was very funny.. lol... so overall i liked it alot and i would reccomend seeing it.
An insult to the romantic comedy.
Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy) stars in this romantic comedy.Briefly, Heigl stars as Jane, a woman who has a secret crush on her boss and has been a bridesmaid in at least 27 weddings, thus collecting 27 dresses. She dreams of having a beautiful romantic wedding herself, much like her parents. Then her younger sister, Tess, ends up with, yes you guessed it, Jane's boss, crushing her dreams. But then along comes a reporter who stumbles upon Jane and finds her situation, being in so many weddings, fascinating and decides to write an article about her. As predicted, he falls for her and maybe he's the one that could change her "always-a-bridesmaid" destiny. My buddies here at Amazon must have changed me. I use to watch romantic comedies and thoroughly enjoy them. I've been watching more thrillers/horror than anything else these days. But either I've changed or this just didn't do it for me. I think it's the latter. I believe I would still love a good romantic comedy. It was cutesy but just not enough fun, action or laughs in it for me. I didn't snooze through it, but I was craving for something this film didn't deliver. I think I was disappointed because the plot was too predictable. Sorry, it just didn't do it for me...
Girls, this is definitely one for you. If you love a feel-good movieand there's not many of us who don't, 27 Dresses is one not to bemissed. Katherine Heigl (Jane) is a serial bridesmaid who organisesweddings, when all she really wants is one of her own. Jane is headover heels in love with her boss (Edward Burns) but her heart getsbroken when her sister (Malin Akerman) visits and ends up marrying him. However the tables soon turn for Jane when James Marsden who playsKevin  the extremely hot columnist (a reason in itself to watch thefilm) wins her over after much persistence resulting in a happy endingall round. The romantic comedy is as easy on the eye as it is on thebrain. Faithful to the genres conventions, predictable it may be butthe genuine passion and chemistry between the two protagonists make ita must see. Heigl shines after Knocked Up, where she plays a leadinglady that we girls can relate to, being likable, funny and smart all inone! I give it a 5/5 rating, you'll find yourself laughing one minuteand reaching for the tissues the next. Holly Robinson
