Great Movie!!!!!!!

I love this movie! Everything is funny and heart warming, just the way I like it. I saw 102 Dalmations three times and I thought it was cool! Anyone who thinks it's stupid must be a maniac, wacko, crazy person.(in case if you don't know what that means, it means a person who is out of his/her's mind). So I recommend anybody to watch this.

The whole movie is overbright, overloud, antic, telling us the characters and animals are endearing rather than allowing them to reveal themselves as such.

Cute and entertaining

I saw this movie at an advance showing the other night and found myselflaughing quite often. The only thing that I saw as a fault is that theymade it so the only way Oddball would "fit" in is to look the same as theothers. The way they did that was cute, but it doesn't set a realpositiveimage for children to accept others no matter what they look like.Besidesthat, the costumes were excellent and Glenn Close did a fantasticjob.

Kevin Lima directs with as heavy a hand as Stephen Herek did the last time around -- and with a script even more contrived.

James Sanford 2012-05-08 03:44:59

It's assembly-line art, colorful and professionally crafted... more imagination will probably go into the marketing of the movie than went into the making of it.

An over-the-top performance by Glenn Close makes this even better than her last turn as Cruella.

Enormous fun for both adults and children, this film works on numerouslevels: there is everything from car crashes and cake in the face to somevery good (yet subtle) jokes for adults.Glenn Close is at her sublimely evil best as Cruella (`call me Ella') DeVille. After three years in Dr. Pavlov's Behaviour Modification Clinic she is curedof her desire for fur – even the puppy-skin fur she had so intenselydesired. She even has all of her fur coats placed in the dungeon of theextraordinary castle she inhabits. But it wouldn't be a ‘Dalmatian' movie without the subterfuge andmachinations of Cruella and you know that something will change herbehaviour modification. And now she needs one extra puppy (hence 102Dalmatians) to complete her nefarious scheme this timeround.Ioan Gruffudd is instantly appealing as the hero of the film that runs the`Second Chance' dog shelter. Though he was in `Titanic' and in last year'stelevision version (as Pip) of `Great Expectations' I didn't recognize him;well, he was ‘Fifth Officer Lowe' in `Titanic' and I didn't see `GreatExpectations' so I am not terribly surprised.Gerard Depardieu does a delightful turn as the furrier-pawn of Cruella. Heprances and postures in the most outlandish and outrageous of fur clothingyou have ever seen – and does it well. His 'Wicked Witch of the West'homage is hilarious.Tim McInnerny is superb is Cruella's not-so-evil henchman – he was also‘Alonzo,' Cruella's butler, in `101 Dalmatians' and you may also recognizehim from all of the `Black Adder' Brit-Coms. He plays his usual bumbling,good-hearted, somewhat dim-witted character to great effect.Oscars for costuming are generally given for the entirety of the costumingin a film. This is unfortunate as the clothing worn by Glenn Close isamazing – it is incredibly detailed (note her handcuffs when she is beingreleased from the Behaviour Modification Clinic) and worthy of such anover-the-top character. Her clothing alone deserves at least an Oscarnomination.Animation holds a special place in my heart – but comparing this film to theoriginal animated film is like comparing apples to orangutans: it can't bedone. Suffice it to say that `102 Dalmatians' is even better than the filmversion of `101 Dalmatians' that came out in 1996. There is a lot to likehere: from the sight gags, the dialogue, and the costumes to the casting -it is a good film for the whole family.

Even Better

Well, Disney has done it again. 102 Dalmatians is even better than thefirst. Once again, Glenn Close stars as the crazy, out of the box villain ofvillains, Cruella DeVil. She is totally awesome, and totally believeable asshe makes her transition from almost sickly sweet to gleefully evil. Alice Evans does a fantastic job as Cruella's stern, yet humorous probationofficer who is less-than-thrilled about her new client. And Ioan Gruffudd isperfect as the slightly naive dog-lover who is torn between wanting tobelieve that Cruella has turned a new leaf, and being head-over-heels inlove with her probation officer. Tim McInnerny makes a re-apperance asCruella's flustered, frightened butler, but this time he gets to have ashining moment as he fights a bad guy, and helps to save the day. The only person I had a problem with was Gereld Depardieu... don't get mewrong, he's a great actor, but honestly, I think this role was beneath him.LePelt is stupid and snibbering, practically in love with Cruella and hisjokes (i.e. the tiger head on his pants in one scene) fall hopelessly flat.I think Mr. Depardieu should have demanded some intelligence put in thisrole... I can look past LePelt because Cruella and the others are so great, and thestory line is charming, and the animals are once more, terrific. Theaddition of the talking Macaw really gave the movie an unexpected comictwist. I give it six stars.

I have never really seen the first propally, but i could imagine the second been that bit better. Great for anyone, really cute doggies, and ther are 102 of them on a adventure near to the end.

Faithful Sequel

I'm sorry. The movie was okay, but it does not match what the first moviehad. If they had brought back Roger and Anita,it would have been better.Where did Horace and Jasper go? Or the Skinner? I was lost in this movie. And they did a really bad job of trying to copy the first movie whereCruella goes flying about. Its not a dud,but they could have done better.Itdoesn't matter because kids love it!

Barking up the wrong tree

I'm sorry to say that this was a big disappointment compared to the first movie. The first movie was playful, fun, and a little bit dark. But this movie is bit too childish. The humor isn't really up-to-date, if you know what I mean. The jokes weren't well-thought out, and they could have made funnier jokes that were still appropriate. And besides, who really cares if they aren't appropriate? You've got a crazed woman trying to skin little puppies and this disgusting man who is a king of fashion. Definitely not my idea of appropriate. The acting was okay, I mean, if the story wasn't good, at least the acting met. Glenn Close was a good Cruella De Vil before and after. I hope she'll choose a better movie next time. Not to say the movie was bad. It just doesn't have the "101 Dalmatians" shine to it anymore. Even some children might find it a bit dull. The ending was a bit slip-sloppy, too. They did put a lot of effort into it, however, and I am glad for that. They ahd to digitally create many dalmations and make a bird's lips move, so I can't say that it was bad.All in all, I'll say that if you are looking for a sequel to "101 Dalmatians," you probably won't find it here. As a lone movie, I think it would have done better.

enjoy it to your heart's content

"102 Dalmatians" was simply one of the smartest and funniest films I haveseen. One thing that I found interesting was the director's drive andmotivation to complete the project without quiting. It was clear that plot was important to everyone involved because there wasnothing lacking in story. Glenn Close has done another incredible jobportraying Cruella De Ville. Her performance was so incredible that she mademe angry everytime she did something evil to one of the dalmatians; whenthis happens, you know you have a good actress on your hands.Kudos to newcomers Ioan Grufford and Alice Evans as they pull offperformances, which make them look like veterans. There performances were sogreat I could mistake them for naturals. These two have a lot to offer andare here to stay. I'm so glad I saw this film because it allowed me to forget the outsideworld and let me relax with my popcorn and soda pop. "102 Dalmatians" issuch a delightfully light-hearted comedy that will warm your hearts and spuryou into action at the same time.

Miserable Sequel

This movie was terrible. The plot is very thin, even for kids, and Gérard Depardieu is a real flop. (Why isn't his PR photo from this movie at the mulletsgalore.com website?) The leading couple is cuter and more believable than the current issue 101 movie, but their love story is poorly written and very superficial. The maccaw should have been named Jar Jar instead of Waddlesworth -- it was pointless, annoying, and dropped my raiting from two stars down to one.Go to some garage sales and find the original children's books. Read to your children; don't buy this movie.

Chris Hewitt (St. Paul) 2012-04-25 19:46:16

The movie is diverting enough to keep kids and parents watching for a couple of hours.

Liz Braun 2012-04-25 05:48:36

Jokes, puppies and that scary Cruella -- there's plenty for children to like.

Arlis Fuson 2012-04-24 18:10:12

Oh I will be harsh!

Cruella has been in jail and in her time there a doctor has worked withher and made her change and become a brand new person. She now lovespuppies and hates fur and comes out a brand new woman. She tires herbest but for stupid reason, which never gets explained in the movie, the ticking of Big Ben (the London tower clock) she goes mad and goesback to her evil self. After she had gotten out of jail, and before sheturned back to her old self, she helped organize a puppy "safe house".After she goes back she once again wants more dalmatians and althoughdifferent in action, same in story as far as her getting them stolenand all attempts are captured in goofy glory as we see a less funnyversion of part one over again.Production was bad in this one, definitely a lower budget, and no wherenear the time and effort and talent devoted into this one. The musicwas bad, the acting was bad (for the most part) and its just a waste oftime. Sequels often suck, so its not that big of a deal, you shouldknow what you are getting.Glenn Close did a great job again, but her character was written badlyhere, so her acting couldn't save it. Most of the acting was mediocreat best. Ben Crompton did a good job as Ewan and thats about the onlyperson that stood out. Eric idle as the voice of that stupid bird wasannoying too. This movie is something you might shut your "youngins" up with for anhour and a half but it's a truly inferior film to its predecessor. Washard for me to set through. 2 out of 10 stars.

A.O. Scott 2012-04-24 06:01:06

In a season like this, what's one dog more or less?

JoeytheBrit 2012-04-23 20:57:19

More of the Same.

Perhaps the biggest surprise about this belated sequel to Disney's 1996picture, 101 Dalmatians, is the fact that it took them 4 years to getaround to making it. The story is pretty much the same, with Cruella DeVil returning to her evil ways after the sound of Big Ben's bellsundoes all Dr. Pavlov's good work with her. That's about as subtle asthe film gets, although it is still a shade better than the original, with a lot less time devoted to slapstick comedy. Most of the originalcast have been replaced, with only Glenn Close reprising her role asthe evil Cruella. Gerard Depardieu joins the cast, and it's a shame thewriters couldn't have thought of something more substantial for him todo. One thing from the original movie that its sequel hasn't improvedupon is the over-the-top musical score which never lets up so that theimpression that it is feeding us musical cues as to how we're supposedto be responding to what we're seeing on the screen slowly becomesoverwhelming.
