Famke Janssen carries this pretty good movie

The movie begins with Marnie Wilson (Famke Janssen), arriving homeafter being released from an unknown prison sentence, for one year ofhouse arrest. She stabbed her abusive Cop husband to death after hecame at her with a knife and she managed to get it away from him todefend herself. She had filed many complaints about the abuse but hiscop friends didn't take her seriously. She obviously was found guiltysince she went to prison and has now been released to house arrest. Thetitle of the movie - 100 Feet - refers to the distance she can travel.Marnie must always be within 100 feet of the ankle monitor box thathangs in her home. If she goes outside 100 feet, the ankle monitorbeeps and she has 3 minutes to get back inside or the police arecalled. The movie doesn't waste much time introducing the audience and the leadcharacter (Marnie) to the ghost of her late husband who apparentlyhaunts the house and wants her to pay for what she did. He is violentand takes pleasure in scaring her and physically hurting her - forexample, he throws her down the flight of stairs and also hits her inthe face. The ghost is NOT invisible.. it's not some force that can'tbe seen and the fear is supposed to come from the unknown. The moviecreates the ghost and we can see his shape/face/body and at times it ISscary. The movie plays with this by having his image pop up with quickcamera shots in the dark.Ed Westwick plays Joey, a young man from the neighborhood who befriendsMarnie and is someone who she can talk to and who runs errands for hersuch as getting books from the library and groceries from thesupermarket. Bobby Cannavale plays a cop who was the partner ofMarnie's husband. He can't let what happened go and he obsessivelycamps outside the house to keep an eye on Marnie inside.Famke Janssen's performance in this movie was fantastic. The actualmovie was average in execution and it had an ending that lessoned thefilm especially with the over the top CGI effects which IMO were justtoo much in the final scenes (it wasn't a problem for 95% of the moviethough) but Famke really stepped it up making the movie almostmesmerizing at times. Her fear and grief and determination werepalpable and she really sold the character she was playing. Just agreat job from her overall.I saw this movie last night when it was on SyFy. I happened to flip thechannel and quickly decided to watch. I am glad I did. I gave thismovie a 6 out of 10 b/c it was enjoyable and well acted but it wasn'tbrilliant by any means and the over the top ending ruined it a bit forme. I still recommend seeing this movie and there is a really crazy (ina good way) fight scene that is worth checking out.

FAMKE JANSSEN LIKE NEVER BEFORE!

Most likely anyone that is a Famke Janssen Fan should absolutely love "100 FEET". While many Critics snubbed this film (they should be ignored), it is one of the extremely few opportunities so far, to see Ms. Janssen showcase an extremely diverse set of Acting skills. For a low-budget flick, it is well shot; crystal clear and colorful cinematography. Of course it is not what the OSCARS collective is looking for, but after all, it is a supernatural horror that manages surprises, chills and thrills up to the very end! Good imaginative storyline, decent overall acting and directing, and well worth 5 Stars to any supernatural film afficionado... GBJ

Famke great, movie bad

How is it possible to make a movie like this. Watch out, it isn'treally that bad but it is the use of a CGI ghost that spoil the movie. There is one scene were Famke is punished by the ghost were we actuallydon't see him and that's more frightening than the appearance of theghost. And of course being made in Hollywood delivers the unavoidableromantic part in the movie. You can see it coming when the delivery guyrings at the door that he's going to fall in love with Famke. And thereis a bit too much of that. Even the so called love scene doesn't showanything from her, she still wears her underwear. Big fault. No needfor gratuitous nudity but if you are showing two people banging eachother well...For the geeks out there they will love the punishment ofthat guy by the ghost. It even can be said that it is gory. Anyway, ifyou wanna watch a ghost story but are weak at heart than you can easilywatch it. Again, sad to see a great performance by Famke in a not thatgood flick. And the last minutes are really stupid, stay away 100 feetfrom it if you are a horror geek.

Best ghost movie I've seen in a long while.

Marnie Watson (the lovely Famke Janssen well known for her role in TheX-Men movies)is convicted of murdering her husband and sentenced tohouse arrest after time served. Under these terms, she mustn't breachthe 100 foot perimeter of the devise placed in her home connected toher via ankle bracelet or she will be sent back to prison for another10 years. Her late husband's old partner "Shanks" (Bobby Cannavale) isdetermined to see her punished to the full extent of the law for hercrime, standing guard at her home awaiting any slip-up he could use tosend her back to prison.Marnie herself was the victim. She was brutally beaten by her husbandand repeatedly filed reports that went unanswered. In fear of her ownlife, she takes matters in her own hands and stabs her husband todeath.Upon returning to her home, Marnie experiences strange goings-on thatbuilds to climatic proportions in this wonderful ghost story. Marniestarts to realize you can't keep a bad man down.Truly one of the best ghost stories I've seen in a long time. Give it atry and you won't be sorry.

So Much More Than I Expected

Ghost movies aren't typically my cup of tea; I don't even believe inGhosts! However, this movie delivered! The acting was believable andgood, the effects were very good. The plot while not wonderfullyoriginal was unique enough, and suspenseful enough to keep me riveted! There are two things I found noteworthy and unique in this film. First, ghost movies usually try to be Hitchcock'esquire and fail. The Ghost inthis film however is prominent and displayed. The suspense is built andgenuinely creepy but they aren't afraid to flaunt a shaded nasty.Nextly the film didn't waste the first forty five minutes on thecharacters trying to figure out what was going on. They ghost came, hewas violent and she knew what was happening. One last thing, this film while violent, really hearkens back to theclassic scary movie. It doesn't rely on gore to scare you. You don'thave some lame heavy metal sound track. There is no pointless nudity. The film will not excite you eyes but it will raise the hairs on theback of your neck and make you check the house before you go to sleep:)

Woman under house arrest has to contend with husband's ghost...

The story starts with an interesting premise but soon goes overboard indepicting some gory scenes of a ghost's vengeance during which timemuch blood is shed for the sake of horror fans who like this sort ofthing. It's well acted and tense with some quietly underplayed openingscenes, but once the ghost starts wreaking the place all hell breaksloose and the story loses a great deal of credibility. The acting is fine, with Famke Janssen giving a strong performance as awoman forced to wear an ankle bracelet and kept under close watch by asuspicious policeman who was her husband's partner. But the tensiondoesn't become tight until the last third of the story and then it goesway over the top in depicting violence.Scary enough but midway through, the story loses a lot of credibilitydespite the high quality of the performances.

Not bad...spoiled right at the death!

100 Feet...Settled in to watch this film with to be honest not too muchexpectation, and not much idea of what to expect. Surprisingly Goodmovie but spoilt right at the death by a ludicrous ending!!! FamkeJanssen AKA Jean Grey X-men, plays part quite well including the usualface expression she used during the X-men trilogy ( you know the one inX men last stand when she was asleep!) serious though, she acted reallywell and played the wife of a Husband who beat on her and then finallycould stand no more and killed him (not shown) Film opens with herbeing driven by a police officer to her home, when they arrive there'ssome tension between the two (which is explained as film progresses)She is promptly put under house arrest with a device fitted to her leg(see disturbia) From here we see Wifey pottering about getting herhouse in order, dusting, cleaning, painting over a blood stained markson the wall?!!! Question 1) where do people get the money from oncereleased from prison? bearing in mind she is under house arrest andcannot leave the house? hence the name 100 feet meaning she cannot gofurther than 100 feet otherwise police arrive to take her back toprison. its at this point the Film Gets quite tense with all the usualclichés, Big empty house, dark corners, Creaking floors, shadows, andthe women on her own Going to investigate! Question 2) who paid for thehouse while she spent all that ime in prison?? bills etc??? anyhow backto the film, The first appearance of the Ghost hubby will make youjump! i did! The Ghost himself is done really well Considering theBudget and turns out to be a violent ghost, very accurate with plates.after the first appearance of the ghost things speed up, the ghostbecomes a more frequent visitor and things get more violent and ghostgets more angry. quick tip for all women who live alone, have a ghosthusband who you killed and now wants revenge should not do..DO NOT PUTYOUR HAND IN WASTE DISPOSAL UNITS TRYING TO RETRIEVE WEDDING RING,YOURLIVING WITH A VIOLENT GHOST REMEMBER!!! The Film becomes a littleclearer and the plot thickens when Famke Janssen/Jean Grey of X mengoes under the floorboards and finds money! not a little money but abin bag full! Question 3) how did hubby get manage to hide this moneyin the place he did without being caught? he virtually had to rip thefloor up to get it there. SPOILER ALERT. Vicar turns up to take moneyfor church refuses to bless house and leaves???????????? why???? Thingsget really interesting and bloody towards the end of the film and wontspoil this for you as they have done thisthemselves..ludicrous,ludicrous,ludicrous ending!!!! truly ludicrous!despite review sounding negative, its not meant to be as i found thefilm really quite good and worth my time watching, very atmospheric, tense, well acted and good story despite some bits they could have leftout.. all in all very good and worth watching if only to make your ownmind up. enjoyed it. give it a try.... peace!

That thing in Donald Trump's head is scary...this isn't.

The movie had potential but as it goes on and the story unfolds, ittends to be a bit tiresome and the scares and the chills just wasn'tthere. The supposed ghost of the husband of Famke's character, Marniedidn't deliver the thrills. I've seen much more scarier things in reallife than a CGI concocted vague image of some rotten dude trying tokill his wife. Another thing that seemed a bit odd was the premise of aghost that can physically hurt and in Ed Westwick's case, kill a humanbeing. Now, I'm not into the whole supernatural thing but I'm prettysure ghosts can't do that. They're dead, they can't kill people whenthey're dead, that's just silly. Famke Janssen, from a big-budgetedfilm X-Men playing an iconic comic book character has been reduced toplaying battered housewives in low budgeted horror movies. Such a shamereally.

Too bad such a great idea was wasted on such a god awful movie.

Pretty standard Hollywood trash that passes for horror these days. Lotsof money spent on special effects so of course they want to show themoff. We're introduced to what it is we're supposed to be afraid of inplain sight very early on thus eliminating any and all tension thatcould have been had from the premise as well as eliminating anybelievability this movie could have had. There's no real buildupwhatsoever, the movie is basically two parts, pre evil ghost and evilghost, there's no anticipation, no pacing and no buildup whatsoever. The final act and climax are just laughably stupid, I really regretactually sitting all the way through this. Special effects really madeHollywood lose sight of what makes a good scary movie and this isprobably the poster child of my argument. This premise could have beenfantastic but it's absolutely wasted on this movie.

Highly Recommended for Fans of Ghost Story

After seven years and fifty-two days in prison, Marnie Watson (FamkeJanssen) returns to her old house in Brooklyn, New York, under thehouse arrest condition for the next six months. Marnie was sentencedfor killing her abusive and brutal husband, the policeman Mike Watson(Michael Paré), in self-defense and she must wear an electronic bracearound her ankle that allows her to move in a 100-foot radius in thehouse during her probation. Mike's former partner Shanks (BobbyCannavale) takes Marnie under his custody, stalking her from his car, expecting her to violate the limits of the electronic device and sendher back to prison. Sooner Marnie discovers that she is trapped in thehouse with the fiend of Mike that has not moved on and is still in thehouse seeking revenge against her.I am a big fan of horror movies and Famke Janssen, and "100 Feet" was agreat surprise for me. This ghost story has an original theatricalscreenplay supported by the acting of this gorgeous Dutch actress andsome decent special effects. I believe that fans of this genre will notbe disappointed with the plot. My only negative remark is with the badconclusion, with the explosion of the ghost and Marnie able to leaveher place without any money, documentation or friends and her pictureon the front page of the news, but traveling somewhere by bus. She hadonly six months sentence to be a free woman; Shanks could help herduring the rest of her probation; and her house might have an insurancepolicy. This good movie deserved an alternative ending. My vote isseven.Title (Brazil): "Refém do Espírito" ("Hostage of the Spirit")

I would like to put a restraining order on this film

First of all the only good acting was done by Famke Janssen (MarnieWatson) otherwise the acting was horrid, (Shanks) played by BobbyCannavale did poorly. The special effects looked like they were madeoff a high schooler's iPad. The Story had potential, it was a goodsounding plot, fairly unique but the movie failed to deliver. Thecharacters were not believable, and the writer did not do theirresearch well. For one, I could never imagine a lady like Famkesleeping with a grocery delivery boy who she has 20 years on. Themurdered cops partner would not be allowed to handle the case nor be incharge of an electronic monitoring system, And if I ever saw what Ithought was a ghost, I would not care if I was on house arrest, I wouldbe sitting on that front porch. The ending.... hmm, the whole endingsequence was bad, again, the CGI was bad, the part where Joey fellthrough the ceiling was good, but when Michael Pare (The Ghost) cameout, it got stupid, Cannavale's character acted poorly as a hurtperson, it was very dramatic and cheesy. The whole ring throwing scenewas embarrassing. I don't know, I've been watching horror movies for 27years, big fan of the genre, I read user reviews for this movie anddecided to give it a chance. In fact this is my first review, I decidedto write a review because I was shocked to see lots of people favoringthis movie. Anyway I would give it a 1.5 stars, The plot was good,Famke was good, overall the movie sucked, I would like to put arestraining order on this film.

Underrated Ghost Movie

Plot: Marnie Watson (Janssen) has just been put under house arrest forthe killing of her husband, a police officer named Mike (Pare), inself-defense. Over a short period of time, she begins to becomeharassed by the ghost of her husband, forcing her to confront her past, and her future. My opinion of the plot: While not entirely original, I definitely likedhow quickly the ghost began to bother Marnie. Usually, in movies likethis one, the ghosts only give hints to their presence until the veryend. It was also quite refreshing to see a ghost in a movie who has aclear agenda: To either kill Marnie, or to get her back in prison. However, there are some aspects of the plot that needed revision. Howcome we're not shown Mike when he was alive? Why not give the money tothe cops, when you know that doing so could clear Marnie of allcharges? Heck, why not have the ghost of Joey (Westwick) fight theghost of Mike to the death (x2)? Special Effects: For the most part, it's not too bad (although, thedeath of Joey (Westwick) could have been refined a little bit); thelook of the ghost is pretty good, the blood effects are satisfactory.Overall, pretty good.Acting: While Famke can't always seem to keep a Brooklyn accent, theacting is still moderately good. While it might have been nice toflesh-out Joey's and her sister's (Charbonneau) characters (as well astheir relationships), it's still just a negligible flaw. Although,Father Pritchet's (Geer) character seemed pretty pointless to me.Overall: I definitely think that this is a very underrated ghost flick. It has great acting and pretty good special effects, hindered onlyslightly by a inappreciably flawed and unoriginal plot. I would mostcertainly recommend it! I give it a 4.5 out of 5!

Bradley Baum 2013-05-07 06:29:04

As a lover of horror I was hoping for more....

Tight budget or not this was a very mediocre film, even bordering onabsolute rubbish. The special effects were not particularly special. The storyline was 'woman files numerous reports of spousal abuse to thepolice station where her husband is stationed eventually snaps whenafter the six reports had been swept under the carpet he attacks heragain. This time he attacks her with a knife. She kills him by grabbingthe knife from him and stabbing him three times. on early release fromjail she gets put under house-arrest for one year (at the start of thefilm six months later on in it). Mikey then starts to exact hisrevenge'. The storyline was virtually non-existent. The acting was sominimal it almost was not there. Famke Janssen did her best in the leadrole, actually she didn't but then there was not a lot for her to do. Ihave seen other films she has been in where she has been better. Theperson playing Shanks didn't have a lot to do either, in fact no-onedid really. In one scene her dead ex pulls her hand into the waste-disposal unitand turns it on cutting her hand so badly that in the next scene sheneeds to wrap it in a towel only for her hand to be perfectly alrightfor the rest of the film. In another set of scenes the ghost of the expulls her down the stairs her head hitting every wooden step as shewent and yet she got up at the bottom with no effect whatsoever. Theseare not the only cases of inconsistencies. So, after having a 'solid' ghost what are we going to be subjected tonext? Dracula sunbathing in the midday sun? A person changing into awerewolf when there is no full moon in the sky? This really is not oneto see in a hurry!

Why the phone?

I absolutely love this movie. but i didn't understand why, when it saidshe wouldn't have electricity all weekend, she still had her phoneworking? pretty sure electricity is needed to work a phone. but otherthan that, the movie is one of the best I've watched. Its scary butpractical and has a cute guy in it. Doesn't get any better than that. This says my review has to be 10 lines of text long. But i don't knowwhat else to say. This movies great. Definitely a must see for anyonewho likes scary movies. I tried to submit this with those ten lines oftext, but it didn't accept it. So I'll just write some more lines abouthow it won't accept my review.

WAAAY too many "clang" moments in this film.

The "clang" moments were just scattered randomly throughout the film. The protagonist doesn't notice that she has half-a-dozen loosefloorboards in her bedroom? (And we're talking big, really loose boardshere...step on the end of one and it would pop you in the nose.) She'sbeing stalked throughout the house, but she doesn't turn on any lights?(This is AFTER her power is turned on.) The Dept. of Correctionsinstalls a high-tech electronic monitoring device for "house arrest",but it won't allow her go to the front door, the basement, or theattic? For absolutely no reason at all, she decides not to tell anybodyabout what's going on? (I mean, why not? She's already been charged andconvicted for the slaying. They can't do it again, no matter how loopyshe's acting or what she tells them. For the same reason, why is a copsitting outside her house? He may have been the partner, but he can'tdo a thing other than throw her back in the slammer. Why bother?)Anyway, it all adds up to a pretty weak story. The movie would havebeen better with less violence and more subtlety. And a better endingwould have helped a lot.

100 Feet, Goes Deep

I was a little surprised at this movie. I expected worse. I lowered myexpectations due to the fact that I got it from RedBox. That's right,RedBox has been notoriously stocking their machines with junk flicks.Maybe they got enough complaints from "you the consumer" and decided toactually watch a movie before committing to sticking it in their littlevending machines. This movie was good, not great, but provided some punchy scares thathad me leaping off of the couch. (It takes a lot for me to get off thecouch too.) Some very well done scenes combining horror and theparanormal, went a long way on the scare 'o' meter. Good, competentacting and directing, plus fairly polished dialog made this moviepretty scary and somewhat believable. It had its moments when itdragged or skipped some detail, but overall it gets 2 rotting thumbsup!

Excellent Movie

For a horror movie that didnt make it to theaters, this really should have. I haven't seen one horror movie this year that made me jump as many times as this movie did! Excellent story and alot of twists you'll never predict. This is a must watch for anyone who like movies about terrifying ghosts. I am the horrorking, I base most of my life on horror movies and this was a pretty good one.

Not since "The Entity" has something been this scary!

100 Feet is the wrong movie to be watching at night time, trust me onthis one. It is well written, has great acting, and great dialogue.Despite the tiresome amount of films that have gone in this direction, this one stands out from them all. I highly recommend this movie toanyone who dares to be frightened, because the probability of thisscary flick freaking you to pieces is pretty high! A woman is let outearly from prison, but at a high cost: She must reside in the samehouse that she murdered her husband in, who happened to be a violentcop. His partner happens to be the man who is more then anxious to puther back in prison, so he waits patiently in his car parked across thestreet, waiting for her to violate her probation. She has an anklebracelet attached to her ankle (hence the name), and is instructed notto go past 100 feet of the house, or the alarm will go off. Goes offfor longer then three minutes, and she's automatically going back tojail. Not too hard to do, right? HEH, the plot thickens. The houseshe's living in is possessed by a poltergeist, and it just happens tobe the husband she killed in self defense. And he is powerful and angryas ever!!! Her survival skills must be put to play, however, whatdefense do you have against something that is not in human form? Can iteven be stopped? Even if her probation officer believes her story thatshe is being violently stalked by her dead husband, how can he protecther from this savage entity? There are long, boring sequences, but barewith it, and trust me, the rewards come later. By the first half hour, she knows what is going on. The last half hour is when the really goodstuff happens, and I'm talking...jump out of your skin, "Oh my God!",freaky , weird , crazy, messed up stuff. I'm not revealing too much, because it will spoil the story, and I sure do not want to spoil theending. If you like your movies scary, you're in for a treat....whichis long overdue these days. Fantastic film!

A very entertaining horror movie

I started to have interest on filmmaker Eric Red's career in the80's,thanks to his work as a screenwriter in Near Dark (which may be myfavourite vampire movie,by the way) and in The Hitcher. Then,in the90's,he made solid works as a director in films like Body Parts and BadMoon.Unfortunately, some legal trouble in which he was involved kept himfar away from cinema for various years, but I am glad to see that he isback with 100 Feet,a very entertaining horror film which may not begreat, but which is pretty intense and is endorsed by a solidperformance from Famke Janssen. This movie works very well as a tensesupernatural thriller which builds up the tension in a solid way forfinally leading into an extravagant but satisfactory ending. As Ipreviously said,Janssen is very competent on her role. Her performanceis credible and realistic on every scene. The rest of the cast is alsogood. The always entertaining Bobby Cannavale totally fits on hischaracter of a New York policeman.Ed Westwick and Michael Paré areadequate on their roles.Something which also deserves to be mentionedis an extraordinarily grotesque scene of violence. That will be adelicious moment for any fan of gore (like me). There are some fails onthis movie. On the one hand, while almost all the jump moments are wellconstructed, there are a few which are a little bit cheap (like the onewhich shows the cat jumping). And a few elements feel forced. In spite ofthat,I had a very good time with this movie.I recommend 100 Feet withconfidence and I hope Red will not last another 12 years for bringingus his next movie.
