Formulaic older than teen high school movie...

1st watched 8/14/2004 - 3 out of 10 (Dir- Gil Junger): Formulaic olderthan teen high school movie that had very little going for it exceptfor the music sounded good on surround sound. The talent was wastedwith this piece of TV-like fluff. Julia Stiles & Heath Ledger have alot of talent but apparently not very good agents to allow them to bein this. This is basically about two sisters who are very different andwant to date boys but daddy won't let them unless they both do ittogether. Soooooo, basically they work it out so that they both livehappily ever after by the end in their high school heaven. And thetitle doesn't work at all for this movie because this isn't aboutchicks putting down guys, but this was a poem brought up near the veryend of the movie that the Stiles character didn't even believe. Nuffsaid, please avoid this loser.

The movie rocked!

"10 Things I hate about you" was so good. It was very funny. I thinktheypicked the right cast. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was very very very good inthismovie.

The BEST movie of 99!

I am a viable movie critic, seeing as I'm a teen, and this is a teen movie. I see a lot of movies, and this one made such an impact on me! It's not one of those "Like, let's all totally go to the beach" movies with barbie look-alikes as the girls, and jocks for the guys. It's smart, modern and HILLARIOUS! It would be a shame to go through life without seeing this oneof a kind movie. If i was in the Academy, "Oscar Baby! " Please see this movie, it's GRRREAT!

Really Fun

I loved this movie! It was so funny and yet so romantic. I think everyone should see it and own it. Julia did a great job in this movie.

One of the best "Teen" movies

In comparison to the other teen targeted movies that have beenreleased lately, this one is pretty darn good. It's nice to seea cast that doesn't include any standard big name teen stars.The acting is believable, despite the usual high schoolstereotypes. I spent a lot of time watching the background andthe extras though, because this movie was shot in my town.I recommend seeing this film instead of Scream, She's All That,or any of the other recently produced youth-oriented t

One Thing I Hate About You is Your Lack of Originality

Let me preface my comments by saying I enjoyed this movie. It wasdefinitely cute, fun and at one point, side-splitting hilarious. The bigproblem I have, though, is that it follows the IDENTICAL (aargh!) templateto every other teen film ever made, campy Shakepeare referencesnotwithstanding.I must admit I'm getting a wee bit tired of seeing a social outcasthaving to be convinced to go to the prom/dance/house party (She's AllThat,Carrie 2) where she can find out she was just a bet (She's All That, CruelIntentions, Carrie 2), although the striptease on the kitchen table isindeed a new wrinkle.Please, stop putting grunge chicks on the screen and trying toconvinceme they're the ultimate sex symbols (Carrie 2, The Craft, The Faculty). Ialready know that. Cease and desist with the nerd wins babe routine (Can'tBuy Me Love, The Faculty). I've tried it, it doesn't work.Couldn't Touchstone, with their oodles of dough, have given ussomethingthe least bit creative? That said, I refer you to my opening sentence andtell you I plan to see this flick at least twice more, if only to try andget a glimpse of what Julia Stiles is flashing.

More than ten reasons to love this film

This is an AMAZINGLY witty movie in my opinion. It is a remake ofShakespeare's "The Taming Of The Shrew" but modernized wonderfully. Themain character, Kat Stratford(Stiles) is a rebellious teenager whodoesn't care at all what other people think about her. Her sister,Bianca Stratford(Oleynik)could not be more different. She is a popular,adored, and self centered teen who loves being a girlie girl. The newkid, Cameron (Levitt) immediately falls in love with Bianca. But alas,the Stratford sister's father is an extremely uptight, paranoid man whois deathly afraid of his daughters getting impregnated, and so has seta rule that Bianca cannot date until Kat starts dating. So now, Cameronhas decided to come up with a plan to hook up Kat with the school'sextreme bad boy, Patrick Verona(Ledger). This movie is one of the funniest movies, and my friends and i totallylove it. It is also full of Shakespeare references, some big and somesmall, which is a nice touch. There are quite a few hilarious lines,and the acting is amazing in my opinion. This movie is definitely worthseeing, and you shall get QUITE a few laughs out of it.

I really like this movie, but be warned: They go a little overboard on the sex jokes and profanity. It just gets a little old.

WOW!

This movie truly makes you feel that there is that one person out there for you. The amazing story really makes you smile...and you seem to yearn for a relationship like the one shared between julia stiles and heath ledger. The deciet always ends with the girl gettin her wonderful guy, and in the end all seems good. One can only wish that life was like it is in the movies. I think anyway who loves a hopeless romance movie should buy this one. I assure you, you will love it just as i did.

ONE OF THE 4 BEST TEEN MOVIES

OTHER 3 BEING- SHE'S ALL THAT, DRIVE ME CRAZY, NEVER BEEN KISSED.this movies got everything.. Hostile girl, upset sister, mysterious and untouchable guy, cute cocky guy, and 2 semi regular bordering on geekdom guys... cocky guy and semi regular guy want sister.. to get to sister must put untouchable guy with hostile girl.. very shakespearan.. typical romance ensues-- boy and girl fight and fall in love.. once again a great prom scene.. complete with some girl bashing boy fist fight action. truly the perfect teen romance.

My two loves, Shakespeare and Teen Movie rolled into one?

One of the few films which makes a lie of the perpetuating idea that it'simpossible to create a teen movie that is both literate and about something. Granted, it should, being based on something Shakespeare and all. Butliterary adaptation is never always an insurance policy. What makes '10thing' so special it's ongoing need to find new or unpredictable ways oftelling its story, so that even though we know the inevitable outcome,nothing is actually set in stone. 'Shrew' has always been a bit of aproblem of a play, containing as it does that final scene which flouts allnatural feminist laws. '10 things' solution is a much more believablesolution. So hats off all, verily.

It's like so totally great

This movie is surprisingly good! I figured it was just going to be another boring love story focused on the teen audience. But actually this modernized adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" is very entertaining. When I watched this movie my mind was set that it wasn't any good, but I was wrong, this movie is an excellent retelling of a good, yet old, Shakespearian play.

Cute for GenX-ers;Heath Ledger a big hit.

Saw the film this weekend; soundtrack a bit obnoxious to mynearly-40-year-old ears, but otherwise, it's a cute movie. Obviously gearedtoward a young audience, especially those who aren't familiar with thisformulaic plot. Heath Ledger got squeals from all the young girls in thetheatre--every time he grinned, they went nuts. Reminded me ofBeatle-mania! I'd recommend this film highly for young people, or those whodon't feel like thinking too hard.

Ugh!

It's hard to believe a 97-minute movie could be too long, but this onedefinitely was. I found it totally predictable, with little or nooriginality in the plot. How many movies have been made like this now?Everyone plays each other against everyone else, yet they all end up happyin the end...blah, blah, blah. I'm glad I didn't waste my money seeing thisone on the big screen.

a great teen movie

I think 10 Things I Hate About You is one of the best movies I've seen all year. It's not your typical dumb teen flick because these characters are smart and the dialouge is really sharp. I think Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger really made this movie. If you're looking for an entertaining, funny film, definately see it. One word of caution: this is not a kid's movie. I think it came close to an R rating, and with good reason because of the dialouge. I really liked it, but wouldn't let a little kid see it.

Sweet, Intelligent and Entertaining

This is definitely the best of the recent wave of teenage movies. JuliaStiles is so talented, Heath Ledger is charming, and Larisa Oleynik andJoseph Gordon-Levitt are more than adequate, and most importantly, reallycute. I don't know that it gives a very accurate picture of the averagehigh-school, but who wants to watch that anyways? I think the scene whereLedger does the "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" is a classic in the making. This movie isn't Oscar material or anything like that, but it's a fun filmthat you can watch without feeling that your intelligence is being insulted.

This movie would best be viewed if you do not really haveanything to do and you have a friend over on a Saturday night.For someof the people that hink this movie is qoute-on-quote "Uproarious" and "Incredibly Funny" they might of saw another movie.And it being the best movie of '99,Was this the only movie you saw?But please do not get me wrong!I am not trying to come off demeaning the people you made this film,it is a fairly well made adaption of Shakespear's work.And I am also sorry to the people that might of thought I was demeaning them too on here.This is a good film,if you really think you might want to see it by all means,see it,do not listen to me!You will most likely enjoy it as I.Have a good day......Ryan END
