In Los Angeles, the eleven year old Anna Fitzgerald seeks the successful lawyer Campbell Alexander trying to hire him to earn medical emancipation from her mother Sara that wants Anna to donate her kidney to her sister. She tells the lawyer the story of her family after the discovery that her older sister Kate has had leukemia; how she was conceived by in vitro fertilization to become a donor; and the medical procedures she has been submitted since she was five years old to donate to her sister. Campbell accepts to work pro bono and the obsessed Sara decides to go to court to force Anna to help her sister.
The year is 1890 and Bible Professor Russell Carlisle has written a new manuscript. His book is about to receive an unanimous endorsement from the board members at Grace Bible Seminary until his colleague, Dr. Norris Anderson, has a difficulty with something. Dr. Anderson believes what Carlisle has written could greatly affect future generations. Using a secret time machine, Anderson sends Carlisle over 100 years into the future, offering him a glimpse of where his beliefs will lead.
This quirky comedy stars Cary Elwes as Erik Naybor, a motivational speaker and life coach who keeps his family on their toes with a rigorous schedule of physical exercises and psychological techniques. He seems on top of his game, not to mention his family's lives, until a delinquent nephew shows up who has info on Erik's not-so-perfect past. Suddenly, it looks like the rigid structure that Erik has built his life around may not be as sturdy as he thought.
